The other TV i have, which has been with me since I was 12 and I'm 31 now and that picture Tube never went out-lol The brand of the TV is SanSui and I just bought 5 years ago so it's probably the sh*TTy brand. When I walked in the room I smelled BURNT RUBBER and could not figure out what the hell the smell and then discovered it was from of TV

That's not top of the line, but it's still a brand name. It's not like you bought the Target brand, lol.

The flat thin TVs are LCD, which means they don't have a picture tube. Picture Tubes are on their way out.

Don't feel bad. I bought an RCA in 2001, and had to replace it last year. This time, I bought a Sony.

Did you see the episode of Becker where his decades old console tv goes, and he brings the picture tube to a tv store, and the clerk had no clue what the tube even was? It was funny.

YES! That is one of my all time favorite episodes! I have it on tape somewhere.
Funny thing is when that episode aired for the first time, I was still watching my console TV from the 80's. That was the best TV I ever had. They don't make them like that now.

Becker had some emotional episodes, and that was one of them. After driving everyone nuts for the entire show, it ends with Reggie making him realize that he was having a hard time letting go of the tv because his deceased mother had bought it for him. Like Becker said, "That tv was with me through it all, med school, two divorces...." It was his last connection to his mother.

That clerk in the store was hilarious though. Becker was so cheap.

That's how I feel about my current TV, had it since 88 and it was with me all through high school, college, and the last 7 years in my Apt. almost 20 years and no problems.

I felt that way about my old console. I would've paid to get it fixed, but the repairman couldn't even get parts for it anymore.

Today's experience reminded me that it's very important to always have over a $1000 in the Bank or a Credit Card in Good Standing so you can deal with emergencies like this. 6 years ago I had neither and would have been rolling in my room throwing up all over the place-lol

Throwing up???? Are you serious? Ok, so you have two t.v's in the house, why are you so upset?

Maybe it's because you run your TV none stop

But seriously I bought a Sony in 2002 and last year it went out and I had to buy another one. So I doubt that it's the brand of the TV.

So I have a question: I am in the rotten position of having to rent a room, and giving up control of my living conditions. My last evil landlords put cable TV in the lease, yet they didn't want to rent me a cable converter box. The bitch presumed that I would just hook up my TV directly to the cable --yet knew that I'd have limited channels that way! Depending on the make and model of the TV, I'd likely be limited to about 99 channels, instead of the 400 more or less enabled by a box. ( and below 99 means no movie channels, that cheapskate bitch! )

My TV is from 1986, a dial TV not digital, which I chose due to fears that if the LCDs burned out, or the inner circuits wore out, I'd have a useless TV, whereas I could fix a broken dial.

But the cable ( Time Warner, who took over from Adelphia/Cox ) kept disconnecting because I think that idiot Time Warner has new technology which disconnects if the cable doesn't "sense" or read a connection to a TV, which occurred anytime I turned off my VCR to time-record shows while I was away!
NOW I have a better landlord, but NO converter box again, this time with satellite. Direct TV, I think. WHY do landlords act so damn stingy about boxes? But that Time Warner box was a nightmare. Have I got to buy a new digital TV? I used this TV with Adelphia Cable converter box, no problems like this.

Ok well thanks for the INfo, Sony is off the List. I should just go ahead and get the same brand as my 19 year old TV, SYLVANIA.

Picture tube is gone regardless of the brand. It's worn out its welcome.I dont like hearing this!!

Mine was doing that... It came on but only 1/2 screen..... I just tap it on the top and it came back each time....... It did it maybe for a week and then thank God stopped......

I am grateful because my TVs connector in the back IS LOOSE and if it gets jarred the wriog way,I could lose it and not get the picture back :(

I dunno how it got loose,THE BLOODY TV HAS BEEN IN 1 SPOT FOR YEARS.... Why woiuld the connector get loose FROM DOING NOTHING!!
