friendsfan77 02-06-2007, 08:33 PM Best: '70s
Worst: '00s
1. 1970s (the best of everything exists here: sitcoms, soaps, crime dramas, medical dramas, game shows, children's shows)
2. 1980s (ranks second solely because of the greatness that is the primetime soap opera)
3. 1960s (escapist sitcoms at their absolute best)
4. 1990s (the second golden age of daytime soap opera)
5. 2000s (the resurgence of the primetime soap opera)
6. 1950s (the early days)
Yooch 02-08-2007, 12:49 AM Even though the 50's and 60's were groundbreaking, and right up there--I think the 'Golden Age' of sitcoms was the 70's (with shows like MASH, Happy Days, Barney Miller, MTM & All in the Family).
I think the current decade is the worst, and that could be because I don't watch as much TV anymore. No particular show kind of stands out for me.
The 80's and 90's, had some standouts, like Seinfeld, Family Ties, Friends and a few others--even though I wouldn't call the 80's and 90's sitcom decades, per se.
But yeah, I will stick with the '70s as the best, most innovative decade for sitcoms.
djcapote 02-10-2007, 05:14 AM Best: 60's
Worst: NOW
waichingliu81 02-18-2007, 10:59 AM i was born in the 80s and so, i wasn't familar with many 50s and 60s sitcoms. though i have come across mork and mindy, taxi, happy days to name from the 70s. therefore, rather than for me to say what is the best decade, my favourite is the 90s. particuarly as there was this massive sitcom boom and tv networks were churning out sitcom after sitcom. of course there were a few stinkers in there, but based on what i've seen, i prefer the 90s. as for the worst, its now- the dreaded 00s. if anything, the sitcom genre is struggling, whilst reality tv is (unfortunately) gripping the scene, both in america and britain. today's sitcoms are nowhere as good or superior 10, 20, 30 years ago. where are the decent storylines, plots, characters, humour? because right now, we've yet to see one or a couple that has all those elements altogether
Brian Damage 02-18-2007, 11:02 AM The 70's was the best decade in my opinion.
SuperProducer 02-18-2007, 11:49 AM When you look at the number of TV shows that stand the test of time, All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, plus, shows like Charlie's Angels, Starsky and Hutch, Kojak, etc, the 1970's was the greatest decade for Television. The 60's is second, then the 80's, 50's, 90's, and I have to admit, now is the worst time for sitcoms in television history. Mainly because of reality TV and the cost to produce them, and how there is no investment in developing sitcoms anymore. If you are not a hit right out the box, you are gone. All In The Family wouldn't have made it past it's first season if it was made today, and look at all the amazing history that would have been lost.
waichingliu81 02-18-2007, 05:30 PM super producer, i agree with you completely with what you've said here. i wouldn't say that the sitcom for example is dead- yet, but as things currently stand and the longer this continues, the worse it'll get and i'd predict that the future is going to look bleak for sitcoms. it's kinda sad that you have over 100 cable and satalite channels, and thus, sometimes there is hardly anything good on tv unless it's from the 70s, 80s for example
GoldenGirlsFan92 02-19-2007, 12:26 AM Best: 1980's, and 1990's.
Worst: 2000's.
dawsongirl 02-19-2007, 01:48 AM Best: 70s
Worst...hmm. For sitcoms, 2000s. But the dramas now are good. For TV in general, I think I'm inclined to say 80s. I don't really like too many 80s shows.
