3) Have you installed any new software lately?

4) When did you last delete your cookies and temp internet files?

Well, before going technical, have you tried restoring to earlier date? say about just before the problem started happening?

No I haven't tried that. The only problem I seem to be having is trying to view and post on the Main (this) Chit Chat board. The loading time for posts, threads, pages, replies etc. is much slower than on any other board at SO. I'm not sure why. I just updated my virus protection and other updates last night. Is there any other way to fix the problem without having to use the restore function?

Try manually deleting your cookies and temp internet files (and also select to delelete offline content), just incase it's missing something out.

If that makes no difference, make sure you have java enabled in your internet options advanced menu, and you could try changing your browser settings in the same menu (just remeber what you change so that you can change it back if you need to).

If all else fails, best phone your ISP, they'll be able to talk you through ping tests etc...

Java is a software that allows you to run applets (programs) on various types of forums, games, chatrooms, etc... Basically it's like the key that matches the code of the page type you're accessing.

Make sure that you have the above three things you mentioned 'enabled' or 'activated' (especially script), then restart your computer.

Also, are you running AOL 4 or higher? As Java does not work well with any AOL lesser.

If those things are enabled, and there is no change, remove (uninstall) any java software from your programs menu, and then download and install the the latest version from here http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

If none of that works, you could always try using another browser, a free one like firefox for example. Or just call your ISP and ask them to talk you through resolving it.
