I was waiting for the elevator in my building and I heard some guy in the lobby telling 2 or 3 people-"Today is my Birthday" Is that a little strange?-lol

I never announce my birthday, I don't have to, people either know it or they don't.

Personally, I don't do stuff like that. I think it makes you seem like you want the attention brought onto yourself. I'd rather go to work and not say anything and just celebrate with family and friends.

I don't need to announce it to my co-workers. Everybody gets a small party during the month of their birthday. Like Solomon, I like to take that day off anyway.

I think it is just weird. My friends at work know when my birthday is. Other than that it is no ones business. Unfortunately if my birthday falls on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday I am at work.

once you get past 18, the only bithday I could see soemone telling people about would be 21. Otherwise, it seems childish for adults acting like that.

well, i can understand someone your age saying it. My sister in law is 14 and about to turn 15, so obviously she is estatic about getting her driver's permit, so the countdown has began. When you see her "it's 23 more days until my birthday". I think that's fine. But when a 36 year old is going around asking "do you know what day it is?" that seems silly :lol:

yeah, it is a more acceptable for someone my age to do it. But I think that it would be annoying whether the person is about to turn 16 or about to turn 60. Its just such an annoying thing to do in my opinion :lol:

I dont like when people are all, "ITS MY BIRTHDAY GIVE ME ALL THE ATTENTION TODAY." But I also feel bad for people who, the next day or something, will bring it up. Because usually at least one person will know that it's someone's birthday, so it'll get around somehow, but when no one even wishes a person happy birthday because they don't know...I think that's sad.

Ok...I'll admit to it. I do. And it is because I want attention. My whole life, my birthday has never mattered to anyone, so I'm fairly certain that I do it to try to find someone to care lol! I'm not terrible, though, 'cause my birthday is in the summer, so I couldn't/can't do it at school or work (I'm a teacher).

Plus, I'm terrible at remembering my friends' birthdays (even if they're on the calandar), so I don't mind them reminding me 'cause I'd feel really, really badly finding out a week later that I missed it!

I haven't had a truly happy birthday for years.
So many times, bad things happened. When JFK was shot, my mom was selfish and said that i couldn't have a celebraton until SHE felt better. Since she was bummed for months we were right in going ahead anyway. All it was, was with the family, just a cake a presents --and even John Jr and Caroline had their parties!

My birthdays as an adult have been lonely. I have no one to spend the day with. I have a friend who takes me out every year, but always after the actual day.
The best thing about my day is that it falls on National Career Day --or is it the worst? Because maybe all those careers laid out before me just mock me with what I can't have. I will be stuck in a poverty job, unless I have none at all, and will be homeless.
This year, I was homeless --I was sleeping in my storage unit for almost a month --taking a big chance. I got caught, and you guessed it --was locked out on my birthday. In the freezing cold. If I hadn't a good credit card to pay for a motel, I could frozen to death. Though I did have a friend who told me I could stay with him for the night --I took him up on it, the next night.
I have a rotten room for rent with slumlords who cheated me and lied to me --showed me a swimming pool that belonged to the neighbor; concealed their vicious dog at someone else's house; didn't pay their cable bill with part of my rent money, as they should've, since cable was on my lease; failed to disclose that I wouldn't be able to get reception with an antenna, because it's in a canyon, so I was dependant on cable --and since they hadn't paid the bill, out of a nearly 2-month stay, I've had TV a grand total of 5 days, so far.
They lied about whole-house access --they got upset when I tried to sit in the living room to watch their TV for ONE soap opera and Presidenr Ford's funeral.
A lamp was on the lease --yet the lamo conked out in 2 days. I was in the dark, no TV, no light, couldn't read, couldn't see. Just sleep until I could take the time to buy a lamp at Salvation Army. Why didn't THEY get a decent lamp there?
I've had to listen to a troop of little kids screaming every day. The bitch told me that their kids' friends drop by --but they are screaming, yelling, out of control.
And they batter their kids to tears. I hate them and their lies and want to sue them. If I could move out this second, I would. But I found a new place, to move on Jan 29.

On the other hand, on September 26, 2004, I met a young man who kept telling me it was HIS 34th birthday, over and over. He was drunk --and amorous! I felt that he was telling me that being with me made it a happy birthday for him. Since I was enjoying kissing him and stuff, I was happy to make him happy!

Too bad with this guy --when he's sober, he's good at talking, but not romantic. When he's drunk he's lousy at conversation, but great at romance! :dizzy:

Yeah, I used to make a big deal about my birthday when I was a kid, but not anymore. I used to make sure to have my that day off from work, but now I just don't care. The last birthday I was anticpating was my 21st.

Now I honestly dread my birthday. I don't look forward to getting older, especially with my life in the state it is.

OMG Irene that is so true. I work in an office with a woman, who you would think was the only woman who had a birthday the way she carries on about her birthday.

I personally think a birthday is my own personal business, and if I don't want to celebrate it with my co-workers I shouldn't have to, but I have worked in places where they make you feel like something is wrong with you or that you are anti-social if you don't want to reveal when your birthday is. I don't get a thrill out of people singing to me, and I don't want to be forced to celebrate someone else's birthday as well.

I completely agree. It's one thing if it's relevant to conversation (ie "I can't go out, my parents are taking me to dinner for my birthday..."), but to announce it just to get some attention seems kinda dumb to me.

Yeah, exactly. I mean it's nice when people know it's your birthday and recognize it - that's what can make for a great birthday. But if you're having to announce it to people who didn't think it was important enough to know in the first place, then, well I think that's kinda dumb/pointless.
