I googled it after it aired last night on lmn. I only found this old article. http://brechner.org/reports/1995/rpt9512.htm
it is from the moms inditment.
I don't belive she had anything to do with it. I belive the boys Dimitrick was with killed him. I also think an adult may have helped them clean him and put him into the trunk. I also think they should have been disaplined at the bascketball court by the adults there for their actions there.

I've seen this case in the past. I don't think the mother was guilty either. This was another example of a prosecutor irritating me, as he stated that the injuries Dimitric suffered coincided with that of a bathtub injury - yet as someone correctly pointed out in the segment: bathtub injuries are quite rare, so it's difficult to tell what a typical bathtub injury would be. Just another example of a prosecutor dreaming up a scenario in hopes that the jury will be angry enough that they will put the defendant behind bars, which is aggrivating. I'm not sure if the other boys playing basketball intended to kill Dimitric or if it was an accident, but they are probably responsible.

If i am correct, the boy's body was found in trunk of HER car. whoever has access to the car is probably the killer. I am with the police on this one. I think the mom did it.

The car could have been unlocked and the body placed there to frame her. I suppose she could have done it, but keep in mind that the neighbors didn't hear a fight, and there was eyewitness testimony that those boys killed him. In addition, there was testimony suggesting the boys last seen with Dimitric lied to the police.

One thing I am certain of - whoever placed the body in the trunk had to be an adult. The body itself was cleaned thoroughly and was nude. If Dimitric was killed by those kids, I doubt they would have the foresight to clean the body this way so as to not leave trace evidence. This makes me think the crime was covered up by the parents of the kids who accidentally killed Dimitric.

It's not impossible, but I'd think that it is just too obvious to put the body in the car right at the house. You'd think that she would have gotten rid of it long before she called police. Why keep it around overnight? She could be dumb...but it seems weird to call police knowing that the body is right there and easily found---of course police would want to inspect the car!

first off, who here leaves their car unlocked? its way too risky to do incriminate yourself just trying to frame another person.

also, how many fights do you hear happen? I have nieghbors that fight all the time. they apologize for being too loud and i diddn't even realize there was an argument to begin with.

also according to police theory he went unconcious. there isn't going to be a commotion if he just gets wacked. and this is a boy and his mother. he knew he was messy he's not gonna fight and argue her about it. the cause of death was also asphixisation. again how many fights between boys end in asphysitation. its highly unlikely.

i agree its probably unfair to convict her of the crime. however, all signs point to her. the notion that someone would put a body in her trunk is really sorta of silly outside of her or someone who has acess to the key of her car. My instinct is she put body in car and was hoping to play role of distressed mother until things died down and then when things died down she could dump body somewhere.

the thing that stands out with me is someone oculd drive around in that car looking for her son with a body in trunk and not notice it. also her only alibi in that time is her older son. so thats not the most secure of alibis as well. again i dont think its enough for a conviction. but its very likely that she did it. there is no reason why boys or their motherse have some elaborate scheme that they could somehow try to frame her....wash the body...take it from railroad tracks...etc etc. its just too much and highly unlikly.

first off, who here leaves their car unlocked? its way too risky to do incriminate yourself just trying to frame another person.

Plenty of people, especially when the car is parked right outside your home. I've known many people who've employed that practice for one reason or another, but it's mainly because they feel that their vehicle is "within plain sight" and secure right outside their residence.

If it's too risky to incriminate oneself "just trying to frame another person", why are there numerous accounts of guilty parties planting evidence, or lying about the circumstances of the crime?

also, how many fights do you hear happen? I have nieghbors that fight all the time. they apologize for being too loud and i diddn't even realize there was an argument to begin with.

Again, plenty. As someone who also has neighbors who frequently argue loudly, I can recall numerous occasions in which I've not only heard them from my home, but blocks away. I realize, however, that piece of information is anecdotal, much like the very basis of your argument here.

the cause of death was also asphixisation. again how many fights between boys end in asphysitation.

....again, plenty? Males have been known to strangle other males, in criminal acts as well as in common physical altercations. That's the aim of your basic chokehold, is it not? Not all fights between males that end fatally have to be the result of blows. I think that's a rather stereotypic presumption.

there is no reason why boys or their motherse have some elaborate scheme that they could somehow try to frame her....wash the body...take it from railroad tracks...etc etc. its just too much and highly unlikly.

Please pardon me, but isn't the reason rather obvious? The boys, likely accidentally, kill a small child. Their parents, fearing for their childrens' future and not wanting them to go to prison, stage a scene to make it appear as though the boy's mother--the person absolutely closest to him--was responsible. I don't see how that is in any way implausible.

What i'm saying is leaving car outside unlocked? the only person who has access to opening that trunk to place the body in is immediate family members. If one were to place a body or anything into a trunk of a car THAT IS NOT THEIR OWN would raise immediate suspicion...particularly in plain daylight. So first they would have to not raise supsicion and secondly they would have to somehow have key to the car. i'm not sure if anyone who parks their car outside (me included for 10 years) ever keeps their car unlocked. this is why its too risky to incriminate another person. you incriminate yourself while doing it.

in terms of the hearing the arguing. the best way to term it is in terms of logic. The theory that there had to have been noise/commotion for the mother to kill her son is preposterous. ALl i'm saying is that its not a requirement. But to say because there was no audible noise as evidence that nothing happened is silly.

In terms of injury. The wound was to back of head. Now, if one were to be bullied there would have been other signs of a struggle. Lets take if the child was bullied, there is a GREATER chance of evidence of a struggle because he's going to resist a bully. as far as i have seen, there was no real sign of struggle. What is also intriguing is the cause of death is asphysiation. His tormenters would have to have caught him by back of head...choked him....come up with elaborate scheme to place the boy in back of mother's trunk without anyone noticing. Then they have to not incriminate each other through prisoner's dilemma. This is so very unlikely compared to the prosecuter's theory.

I'm not arguing that the mother should have been convicted. I"m just saying that in all likelihood she did it. I do not think my views are silly at all. if the police reports and prosecution thinks so...i dont see how it would be silly. Their theories seem like the most PLAUSIBLE. again, if i were a juror i wouldn't convict...but it seems highly likely this was an accidental death.

Has anyone answered this question yet? I might have missed it.

The channel LMN is short for Lifetime Movie Network. I think that there's the Lifetime (network for women) channel and the LMN Lifetime Movie Network, which are two different, but related, channels on pay tv in the US. Not sure if they're available in Canada.

From going to mylifetime.com, it seems to indicate that those networks are connected to A&E (arts & entertainment), History Channel, and Bio Channel (biography channel), through the AETN Digital group of channels.

I'm pretty sure that Lifetime stopped airing UM some years back. I know that Spike was airing newer versions of the old shows last year and maybe earlier this year, but I'm not sure they're still on the schedule at Spike.

:dizzy: I haven't been on the boards here in a few months. Someone please correct this info if I've got anything wrong. :dizzy:

Sort of OFF TOPIC, but I just wanna throw this bit of info out there....

My kids are ages 23 and 21, working, in school, and still live at home with me. I've had a terrible time getting them into the habit of locking their car doors at night. Only one car fits in the garage, and it's sure ain't gonna be a kid's car! lol

Anyway, we all had garage door openers because of the convenience, rather than fumbling for the house key or punching the code into the panel on the garage door every time we needed to get into the house.

I finally had to take away the kids' automatic garage door openers. They weren't locking their cars, and IMO, a bad guy looking through your unlocked car at 3:00am may be pleased to find an easy way into the house by just grabbing the garage door opener.

Sorry for the bossy safety speech. The unlocked car scenario jogged my memory regarding the weird things criminals do.

Phanekim, I was wondering about the fact that the cause of death was asphyxiation. In this particular situation, the body was cleaned, but there was no water in the lungs? And someone stated that the injuries were consistent with "bathtub injuries"?

I don't recall enough about the case to have a feeling on the mom's guilt or innocence, but I did hear of a little girl, about 6 or 7 years old, who was murdered by her mom and step dad in the bath tub here in MI about 40 years ago.

Her body was clean. She'd been held in the tub forcibly, but there was no water in the lungs. The parents admitted to making their kids lie in very cold baths for extended periods of time as a punishment. What happened to the little michigan girl (about 1972?) was said to be a "dry drowning".

From what I can tell, it occurs more often when the drowning happens in cold water. Something related to breathing, the throat, lungs, etc, has spasms which paralyze those muscles.

If someone caring for Dimitric was angered by the fact that he came home dirty and needed a bath, could that be the reason the body was nude, clean, allegedly showing signs of "bathtub injuries", but had no water in the lungs?

Just tossing out some ideas... I don't know the specifics....

I wondered about water being/not being in the lungs too? I watched this eppie again and it said that when Dimitric's body was found in the trunk, his wet clothes were also in the trunk too.

Something else I wondered about was how the authorities knew to search the trunk for Dimitric's body? That really stood out to me because it had just been 24 hours since he was reported missing so why look in the trunk for a body? Did they even have a search warrant or were they "tipped off" that the boy was dead and in the mom's car?

As far as getting in the trunk, I saw a clip during the episode where Dimitric's mom and brother leave the car running while they searched for Dimitric by the tracks. I guess the guilty party could have removed her keys from the ignition or depending on the car, they could have popped the trunk from the inside (most cars have a feature like that usually under the driver's seat that can pop the trunk).

Finally, the coroner put Dimitric's death as occurring between 8:00pm and 10:00pm. Every parent is different I imagine but to me that's awfully late for a child to be playing outside to begin with.....assuming that he was still outside with the neighborhood boys.

Many people, especially teens just leave their cars unlocked or leave vauable things in them. It makes sense that they either felt bad reilizing they killed him and cleaned him up and washed the clothes. They either knew where he lived and maybe heard someone and quickly looked for a place to hide him, or maybe his brother hid him and was going to bury him later so his mom would not see. I wonder what his mom lied about in the first polygraph. I do think those things are dumb and not reliable though.

As I recall, the mother went from door to door inquiring at all his friends' houses, without bothering to lock the car at each house. She believes a family member of the guilty parties distracted her by talking while someone else popped the trunk and stowed the body inside.

I found this article from the Orlando Sentinel. It has a lot of info that UM didn't mention from its segment. Anyway, check it out below.

Boy Found Dead In Trunk A Puzzle To Police
May 14, 1995|By Mickie Anderson of The Sentinel StaffNEW SMYRNA BEACH — Ora Lee Moore believes her son is with God.

But she wants to know who sent him there too soon.

The body of Dimitric Moore, 8, was found in the trunk of his family's car three weeks ago. His death remains a puzzle.

It has been 21 days since Moore last saw her son alive, as she let him out of their New Smyrna Beach duplex to play with his best friend in the neighborhood.

She since has lived in a universe of painful what-ifs, panicky dreams of her son fighting to breathe and memories of a precocious, intelligent child.

Moore's hurt is compounded by the knowledge - fueled in part by police statements that they were looking at her and her family - that people are eyeing them with suspicion.

In her neighborhood, rumors have flown: that Dimitric was found with ''swamp water'' in his lungs; that Moore broke his neck.

Silly stuff, she said. Dimitric was so well-behaved, he rarely needed to be disciplined. And when she did put him ''on punishment,'' it meant a swat on the backside and going to his room - banished to Nintendo and a stack of favorite books.

''I can't even whup him, much less kill him,'' she said.

The rest of the family is beyond reproach, she said. When she was stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany, Damin - Dimitric's 21-year-old brother with whom he shared a birthday - would ditch school, pedal six miles and take a train to spend the day cradling his tiny brother.

Moore said her boyfriend, Anthony Wright, loved Dimitric as if he were his own.

''He'd go to Anthony when he was mad with me,'' she said. ''He wouldn't lay a hand on him.''

Moore said she isn't as concerned about the talk as she is that police get to the bottom of things.

''I want to know what happened to my baby,'' she said, lighting one of the cigarettes she promised Dimitric she would give up May 1. ''I need to know.''

Moore, sitting at her dining table with four or five of Dimitric's framed school pictures spread before her, said she has done a lot of analyzing in the last three weeks. She said she thinks about the boys police say scuffled with Dimitric the day before his body was found. Maybe they hit him too hard, she wonders.

She said the family has no enemies she can think of.

She's also positive Dimitric would not have climbed into the trunk on his own, as some have suggested. If he needed to hide, she said, he would have seen the car and known she was in the house.

Moore said she believes Dimitric died before he was placed in the car. She recalls leaning out the back door about 4 p.m. on April 23 - not that long after he left home - and yelling for him.

If he had been in the trunk, and still alive, she said she could have heard if he had cried out or banged on the trunk lid.

Police will not say much, other than it has not been an easy case. Dimitric's body was discovered the afternoon of April 24.

''I'm really not at liberty to make any comment,'' Lt. Wade Kirby said. The case is still being treated as a homicide, he said, but he would not comment about suspects. The police are pursuing all leads.

Those answers offer little consolation for a family aching with loss and knowing that until there is an answer, their lives remain under a cloud.

Moore turns on a videotape. It's of the day Dimitric earned his first karate belt. His instructor, Stephen Hammersly, commands Dimitric through a combination of kicks and turns across the mat.

Before he gets the new belt, Hammersly asks the boy for the ''integrity rules.'' Dimitric responds, as loudly as his tiny voice allows, that before someone resorts to using martial arts he should first ''Stay out of danger,'' and then ''Talk your way out of it.''

''I'm sure he would have tried to talk his way out of something as much as he could,'' Moore said. ''Maybe it didn't really matter what he said.''

I am hoping someone can clear up something about this case for me. The mom goes searching for her son by the RR tracks. This is the car her son is later found in. But the mom is seen in a car pulling up to the house when she finds out her son is dead. When did she switch cars?

That confusion aside and to echo a previous post, why did cops think to look in the trunk for her son? Is that standard procedure? If the boy was as clean as he supposedly was, I doubt there was an odor coming from the car so quickly.

if the mother did it, she wouldn't put the body in the trunk of her car would she?

Two years ago in FL, Casey Anthony killed her daughter Caylee and put her body in the trunk of her own car for a while before she buried her in a park in the family's neighborhood.

In Dimitric's case, I can see where this could either have been committed by his mom, family member, neighbor, or acquaintance.

He was found dead in the trunk of his mom's car, his body was clean, and wet clothes were found with him. That could make for a scenario where he came home dirty, his mom or other care giver became angry at this, drowned Dimitirc in the bathtub, then placed him and his wet clothes in the car. Maybe after cooling down from their rage and deciding what to do with the body.

I think that Dimitric had been having problems with neighborhood bullies very close to the time he was killed. I can also see the possibility that was presented, where while his mom was going house to house, talking to neighbors, one distracted her (either innocently or deliberately, as an accomplice) while their guilty relative placed Dimitric in his mom's car.

As far as the police checking the trunk so quickly, it could be that when police are called in on missing kids cases, they check the nearby cars right away, since kids seem to play in and around them unsupervised, and sometimes end up stuck in the trunk without a way to get out. They may have thought Dimitric had gotten stuck in the hot trunk and either fell asleep, passed out, or died from the heat.

I'm just making some guesses based on reading the thread here. I haven't seen the segment in quite a while.

To me putting the body in the trunk by Dimitric's mother herself is more probable than planting evidence against her by the killer/accessory to the crime. Her decision about placing the body there might have been a result of panic, hectic behaviour or perhaps she could have found it temporarily safe, as the last place the police authorities might comb.

The theory that Dimitric was killed and then dumped in trunk by afforementioned children doesn't seem reliable to me. This scenario would rather take an adult person involved as more calm, physically as well as mentally capable of handling this situation (imagine minor offenders who decide to drag the body and fabricate evidence against their victim's mother). How would they make the adults help them - confess? "Mom/Dad would you mind helping me with disposing the body?" C'mon. In my opinion their denial about having dealt with Dimitric that day, which was proven false, does not make any incriminating circumstance. Their intention could have been hiding the mere fact they abused him physically.

Don't forget that mother failed polygraph test 3 times. Well it doesn't make her criminal, but still her credibility might be dubious.

I think someone in the family killed Dimitric.

I don't buy the kids killing him and then hiding the body in the mother's trunk. If the boys killed Dimitric by the train tracks then most likely they would have either left the body there or hidden it close by. If he was killed by neighborhood boys, then why was his body so clean? Where would they have cleaned the body? And why carry the body back to the mother's car and risk being caught?

The mother claims that the body was put in her trunk while she left it unattended for a few moments while her neighbors showed her where Dimitric was seen playing with the boys. I really doubt the murderers or accomplices were lying in wait with Dimitric's body while the mom left the car unattended for a few moments.

In my opinion, the crux of this case lies in the fact that the body was in Dimitric's mom's car. She, the boyfriend or the brother, were likely the only ones to have access to it. They probably thought that the car trunk would be a safe place to hide the body while the police were out searching for the boy.

Was Domitric's friend questioned? He could shed some light on were the boysd played and what they did. I recall in the segment they said the mother was putting trial and charges were dropped? Seems to me in the segment they said some neighborhood boys were witnessesd in trial and segment alleged they may have something to do with it. Did the cops even bother to question negihborhood kids. Dometric's friends. these known neighborhood bullies? I do not see how that avenue can be rulled out with investigating it thuroughly.

The motive that was dreamt up by the prosecutor in this case was that Dimitric came home late and dirty and Ora didn't like it. That's an extremely weak motive, right up there with Patsy killing JonBenet because she wet the bed. It seems to happen all the time in cases where parents are alleged of killing their kids.

This case has always bothered me. I did post a comment in another thread. While I do believe in the mother's innocence I thought about something recently. The clothes that were found with Dimitric's body....were they the same clothes he was last seen playing in or were they a different set of clothes?? The reason I ask is because if he came home dirty & his mom is upset and giving him a bath (he ofcourse has to take the dirty clothes off) then she accidentally kills him in the bathtub. It just doesn't make sense for her to then wash out the dirty set of clothes because they wouldn't be on his body anyways at the time of death Then turn around and put BOTH the wet clothes AND his body in the trunk of her own car.

I would always laugh whenever I heard about a cop being put on the polygraph test. I'd think to myself "Really? You don't think a law enforcement official who knows the ins and outs of a polygraph could easily fool such an obsolete piece of technology?"

That could make for a scenario where he came home dirty, his mom or other care giver became angry at this, drowned Dimitirc in the bathtub, then placed him and his wet clothes in the car. Maybe after cooling down from their rage and deciding what to do with the body.

It makes perfect sense to me. For the parents or guardians of these older kids who bullied and probably killed Dimitric accidentally , to clean the body and his clothes and dumped them in the back of the moms car why others lead her away to were the kids were playing so they could cover up and protect their kids. It was not right at all. But their are parents who will do that.

TheCars pretty much covered it in the post above.

As weird as that scenario sounds, there are parents and caregivers who have gone into a rage and killed children simply because they got dirty.

In the post on the previous page, I'm just mentioning possible scenarios. I'm not accusing Dimitric's mom, (you'll notice I mentioned other possibilities) I'm just saying since his clothes were wet, and he and the wet clothes were found together in the trunk of his mother's car, then I can see where that could be one explanation of what happened to him.

I didn't know his clothes were found wet. Granted, I haven't seen the segment in a long time, but my initial impression was that the mother was innocent. His clothes being wet makes her look more guilty, IMO.

I haven't seen the segment in a few years. If you get the chance to watch it and find out that the info is wrong, please let us know so I can fix it.

(ETA The poster in post 13 said that the segment said the wet clothes were found in the trunk. That must be where I got that info. Not sure if it's fact tho.)

If it was a murder in his home, it didn't necessarily have to have been his mother who was the killer. It could have been someone else. IIRC, there was a boyfriend and at least one other, older child. But FWIW, Dimitric's mom said her boyfriend loved him and wouldn't harm him.

I still believe it was the neighborhood kids who were bullying Dimitric. And their parents covered it up by putting him in the back of his mothers car when she was lured away to were they were playing at.

No one outside of someone from Dimitric's house would have known where the mother's keys were, so I definitely think it was someone related to him.

From what I saw in the segment Dimitric's mother did not take the time to lock her car up before she went off with them to check out were the kids played. She was more intent at finding her son. There for all they had to do was open the door and pop the trunk open. Know key needed.

Yes that's true, they wouldn't need a key to pop the trunk. However, most criminals tend to dump bodies of their victims in a deserted area to avoid being caught or to have more time to concoct alibis, etc. Dumping in in the mother's car shows two things: whoever did it (if not the mother) wanted the police to believe it was the mother or someone close to him who killed Dimitric, and they were brazen enough to do it right under the nose of the family and neighbors in the area. Unlikely for it to have been someone not related to him to do that, IMO.

I think if Dimitric was beaten or bludgeoned to death by those kids his body wouldn't have been clean as the investigator mentioned at the start of the episode. It's such a simple case; and just as explained at the start of the episode, he drowned in the bathtub accidentally but after his mother threw him in there, she panicked and hid the body in trunk of her car. She got away with murder or at least second degree murder and that's why this case will remain unresolved.

This may be the most biased segment in favor of a guilty person that UM has ever produced. Ora Moore got away with killing her son. Neighborhood kids aren't going to take the time to beat Dimitric to death, clean his body, and then locate the mother's car and dump his body in her trunk without anyone noticing. She was acquitted at trial, yes. But that doesn't mean she was "found innocent" as Stack says at the end of the segment.

When I was a kids, sometimes we'd do something wrong like break a window. you know what we did? We'd run away. I'm guessing these kids would have done the same if they had fatally injured this poor kid. Or perhaps hid him in the bushes or something like that. Not strip him naked, wash him, then put him in the trunk of his mother's car?

It was laughably absurd watching this back as an adult. The cops know she killed her kid. That's why the investigation was closed after her acquittal.
