ALL THE TIME??????????????????????????????????????????????????

About once a week, when I see them. Now, obviously I'm no idiot. I can't do that with every guy I call my friend; because a lot of people live by that little annoying statement "Guys don't hug guys". You can usually tell when it would be unacceptable.

Of course I don't hug people I only just met. But some of my closer friends, the ones I've worked along side, and partied with, they understand where I'm coming from and know I mean nothing more than genuine friendship.

Frankly I don't get it. If girls can hug, why can't guys? I find it therapeutic to feel such closeness, regardless of gender.

Maybe I'm just naive and innocent of the ways of society. But if that's the case, I choose to stay naive and innocent.

I wonder why affection or sensitivity with men is so taboo.

Its okay and usually adored when a man is affectionate to his newborn, or kids
but somwhere down the line, its "wrong"

girls hug all the time- girls hug guys all the time.

why can't a guy give a guy a hug?
(other than a sports championship as stated by solomon)

it must be like the 'boys don't cry " thing.

A guy showing affection or being sensitive makes him weak.

There are a lot of people that show no sensitivity, no remorse, no conscience, no affection
and to me, it makes them show no compassion or empathy.

I would think you have to be a very mature and confident man to be able to be affectionate when you want-
and not worry about what others think.

Maybe they are trying an ad campaign to reach out to an "alternative" community.

Or maybe your just reading too much into it.

Lemme ask this
if two girls, were in place of the two guys-
would it have had such an impact to you?

Food for thought.

Regardless, if 2 guys are exchanging affection, verbally or other it doens't mean they are 'together"
and if they are, that doesn't mean anything is wrong with it.
It just isn't your cup of tea.
Or cup of coffee in this case.

If you were living an alternative lifestyle, you might feel relieved to see two men portrayed in a commercial.

I am sure at some point, a commerical has had a social breakthrough here and there-
Different people, different societies will interpret it different ways.

Maybe the bottom line wasn't about men, or affection. Maybe it was just Mcdonalds coffee is awesome and we are all debating it for nothing :)

Frankly I don't get it. If girls can hug, why can't guys? I find it therapeutic to feel such closeness, regardless of gender.
I agree with you here about hugging being quite therapeutic. Our society really looks down on males who are huggers. In general, we are a "no touch" society, and I think that's bad. Just look at retirement homes. Those individuals hardly get any touch contact such as hugging. It's quite sad.

savageamusement
01-05-2007, 01:11 PM
Thats true swedeace really good point.

I think its healthy to be affectionate- regardless of gender.
I think Max has a really healthy attitude about it.

Doesnt' anyone remember the ad campaign "HUGS NOT DRUGS!"

It never said HUGS NOT DRUGS (except for men)

Everyone needs a hug. :bighug:

I was born and raised in a section of Brooklyn called Flatbush that at the time was 80 percent Italian. Today I live in a section that is at least 50 percent Italian. Almost every Italian male that I know when they greet you and each other give both a hug and a kiss on the cheek. It's not as affection as much as it is respect. You are showing that that person means something to you, not in a gay way but as a person. When you go into a Italian home it is expected and it really gives a greaer feeling of respect then the standard "how are you" As a child being raised part of protocol is kissing your Aunts and Uncle's and all elders. Brothers when they meet give each other a hug and kiss.

Again it's love and respect, not a gay thing and to think otherwise is foolish,

But don't fret, I won't take Solomon away, he's yours and I won't intrude. Even thou "all's fair in love and war", I won't make a play.

P.S. I don't have to resort to the LOL garbage.

I know, I know, Solomon is too young for you. Perhaps someone with a passion for old time radio may quench your thirst. I know a guy who has some great old westerns for you to "Trade" with. He is also very fond of endless lists of lists. Sound appealing?

Thanks for the kind offer but I must refuse. I decided to switch from westerns to sitcoms and my favorites are the Jefferson's and Good Times and anyone who can spend three days and watch marathons, speak to no one must be well informed. In episode three of the Jeffersons I noticed George had a slightly bloody nose. Wish Solomon could tell me if that was in the script or my picture tube was going?

But if I go back to westerns I will let you know. Sometimes are tastes change. You liked women at one time, right?

Funny you say that. We just broke a 115 year record, no snow till January 6th. The warmest December in the history of the city and today the temperature is a balmy 69. The average termperature for January is 38 degrees. I'm going out in a t-shirt shortly. But still it's Irene so how many Jelly donuts at "Dunkin Donuts" do you want? My treat, don't want you to go around saying, "those cheap New Yorkers"

Well, well, another zinger by ole Harv. Tell Harv, how long did you spend in the "Secret Room" planning that comeback? Oh wait, that's right, the secret room doesn't talk smack about us lowlies over here. Since you like baseball terms so much, here's one you can relate to...No balls and two strikes. LOL

No, tell me, your the enlightened one. Spend hours in the secret room. Care to join? Right now were discussing the wild west and the role of the sheriff.

Still threatening?

Do you feel threatened? You shouldn't, you are my buddy, my pal. As for the secret room, thanks for the invite, but I'll pass. I don't need to prepare.
