I know this isn't a widely talked about or remembered show, but it was one of my favorites growing up in the 80s. I remember watching when we were home on school vacations. I think the host was Jim Perry (?).

Anyone else remember the show?

I could never recall the show, or how it's played, but I always loved the NAME of the show. How exciting! The Sale of the Century!

I was lucky enough to be a contestant back in the fall of 1985. Although I didn't win the game, I bought an "instant bargain" and won two "Fame Games," a little cash, and those oh-so-lovely parting gifts. Ended up with about $1,600 total. A fun experience, and Jim Perry and Summer Bartholomew were very nice to work with!

Jim Perry was the perfect choice as host of the 80s version of Sale of the Century. He kept the game moving at a fast pace and was great at enticing the contestants to go for the Instant Bargains by lowering the price and offering cash. He was also very adept at handling the Speed Round at the end of the game.

it was a great show, Jim Perry the host actually lives (or lived) in the next town over from me in NJ. I bumped into him a few times many moons ago. He was a very nice guy & he said to me then that he wishes that show had a longer run. He said Card Sharks was fun, but sale of the century was his favorite.

The USA Network used to air several game shows (including Sale of the Century) during the early and mid 90's.

I remember getting fired from work one morning, coming home all upset and depressed. When I turned on the TV to take my mind off my misfortune, I saw myself on the episode of Sale I was on years earlier.

One of the best things about being on Sale of the Century was occasionally working with the show's producers (Reg Grundy Prods.) to develop concepts for new shows. They used former contestants as game-players, and asked for feedback on the new games.

We even shot a pilot for ABC called "Run for the Money." Even though I "won" $20,000 on the pilot, we were paid $100 as "talent." It was a great deal of fun, and it's a hoot to show the tape of it (and "Sale") to friends.

Buzzer is currently running $ale 6:30 PM CST and I don't think they're airing all of the episodes.

The 1st few seasons the hostess what a lady which I've long since forgotten her name and was replaced by Summer Bartholomew.

Also does it seem that the contestants miss the money cards too much?

One of my favorite game shows of all-time. I still like watching the reruns to this day.

I watched the Jack Kelly-Joe Garagiola original as well as the Perry version. Both were well done games.

I really do cared about the Perry Version during the shopping & winners board episodes. As for the Australian version, The only good hostesses during the 21 year Aussie run(‘80 to ‘01) are Delvene Delaney, Alyce Platt, Jo Bailey & Nicky Buckley.

I remember the original version of Sale of the Century that was hosted by Jack Kelly and later Joe Garagiola. It was the only game show success in NBC's overhaul of their daytime lineup in September 1969 where four games got the ax. They were You Don't Say, Match Game, Eye Guess and Personality. The two other game shows that debuted in September, Name Droppers and Letters to Laugh-In were unsuccessful and had short runs. Sale of the Century would last for four years.

I haven’t checked recently, but they were recycling the same 50 (out of 270) or so episodes syndicated episodes over and over. I think GSN aired almost all of them.

Namedroppers was moved from Eye Guess' former 12:30 ET slot to 4 PM in order for NBC to add The Who, What or Where Game to the lineup. That was in December '69. The following spring Namedroppers was axed and Somerset-originally Another World-Somerset-would run at 4 PM.
