TVFactFan 12-30-2006, 11:41 AM Just asking because I was watching Generation Boom on TV LAND and they mentioned that the Microwaves came out in the early 70's. But I can't remember if the Bradys had one gilligan fanatic 12-30-2006, 11:50 AM I don't think they did. I think it would have been expensive when it came out. TVFactFan 12-30-2006, 11:56 AM I don't think they did. I think it would have been expensive when it came out. Oh ok, I thought that since Mike Brady was Successful that they did have one in their Kitchen. Now I kno that these Families wouldn't have had one The Evans The Ramanos The Bunkers LOL gilligan fanatic 12-30-2006, 11:58 AM Oh ok, I thought that since Mike Brady was Successful that they did have one in their Kitchen. Now I kno that these Families wouldn't have had one The Evans The Ramanos The Bunkers LOL I remember on the Odd Couple Felix wanted to win one. That would have been 73 or so. So no TV Family Had a Microwave between 1970 and 1975? gidgetgrape 12-30-2006, 02:01 PM The Bradys had a built-in oven and range. julian bozo 01-01-2007, 05:11 PM I do not think they had one. It always showed Alice or the Bradys using ovens and stoves. Rich3 01-06-2007, 03:43 PM The microwave oven was not a common household item until the 1980's. TVFactFan 01-06-2007, 03:46 PM The microwave oven was not a common household item until the 1980's. Thanks for the Info Charlie Sheen 01-13-2007, 07:07 PM Actually, microwave ovens were first commercially available in the late 1940's. http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/history.html Fun fact: By 1975 Sales of Microwave Ovens Exceeded that of Gas Ranges! Rich3 01-13-2007, 07:37 PM Microwaves may have outsold gas ranges in 1975, but by that time most people were using electric stoves. Gas ranges had become a thing of the past. sixfingers 03-14-2010, 02:00 PM I remember the Amana Radar Range, that was beyond the reach of most people. Bachu 03-15-2010, 08:38 AM Just what was the 'Range'? How did you cook (?) with it? Johnny be good! 11-03-2010, 01:35 PM Just what was the 'Range'? How did you cook (?) with it? They finally had one when "A Very Brady Christmas" came out. Tweety 11-06-2010, 08:16 PM Just what was the 'Range'? How did you cook (?) with it? IIRC, I think the Amana "Radar Range" seemed to be a combination stove and microwave oven. It was an all-in-one unit, and the microwave oven was above the stove on the unit. It was a pretty popular prize on shows like "Let's Make a Deal" and perhaps "The Newlywed Game" as well back in the late 60s. As a kid, "Radar Range" sounded REALLY cool! Back to the thread...there's no indication that the Bradys ever had a microwave oven on the original show. I don't think anything was ever cooked quickly in that kitchen. I did not know that any type of microwave had been invented as far back as the sixties! Wow! Marvo301 11-07-2010, 12:59 AM I can only remember a couple of times when the Brady's meal wasn't cooked on the built in range and /or the built in oven. On those occasions they barbequed in the back yard. melskie007 12-21-2010, 01:25 PM I remember microwave ovens being so huge! I can imagine it would take up most of the countertop space of the brady's kitchen, not to mention they probably would have had a whole episode about it like the times when they had episodes about the dog running away or what not. Remember the myth, "don't stand near a microwave oven or you will never be able to have children?" hahaha..it's almost as bad as when someone once told me, when you play the thriller album backwards you hear demonic voices..i thought, well vincent price was pretty scary enough how much scarier can you get lol.. cocytus 12-21-2010, 02:01 PM The Brady's did NOT have a microwave in their kitchen, although since Mike made enough money to support a stay at home wife, six kids and have a live-in maid, they easily could have afforded one. Here's a link to pictures of the kitchen: http://the-haunted-closet.blogspot.com/2008/08/bug-1975-and-brady-bunch.html Tweety 12-21-2010, 11:31 PM .it's almost as bad as when someone once told me, when you play the thriller album backwards you hear demonic voices..i thought, well vincent price was pretty scary enough how much scarier can you get lol.. I was gonna say, there's plenty of demonic stuff on THAT album even just playing it forwards! comedyfreak 12-22-2010, 09:17 AM The Brady's did NOT have a microwave in their kitchen, although since Mike made enough money to support a stay at home wife, six kids and have a live-in maid, they easily could have afforded one. Jude The Obscure 12-22-2010, 11:06 PM Behind Alice in those pics posted earlier is an indoor grill.....which was never used! LOL melskie007 12-23-2010, 12:38 AM Behind Alice in those pics posted earlier is an indoor grill.....which was never used! LOL lol...No microwave! It's funny because when you think of when microwaves came out, the purpose mainly was to heat up food but now you see people cooking dinners designed for the microwave..anywhere from a pizza to a cake? But we used ours to make popcorn besides the foil popcorn you placed over the stove, haha remember this people? And before the foil popcorn i remember we also had a popcorn maker. You place popcorn in the maker and it makes it. haha..I loved the invention of a air conditioner that you placed water in that cooled everything, that was pretty neat! I cant remember but didnt one of the brady kids have a easy bake oven at one point? hmm melskie007 12-23-2010, 12:44 AM I was gonna say, there's plenty of demonic stuff on THAT album even just playing it forwards! Don't get me started lol...I also remember that song people were talking about in that time "another one bites the dust". and backwards i think it said eat rats or something, haha...oh wow, i played many records backwards after hearing these stories...Speaking of record players, i found one at this place they sell replica's but it hooks up to a usp port and you can transfer music now on a cd from your record...thats technology for you. jehobden 01-26-2011, 08:44 PM Microwave ovens originally came out much earlier than the 1970s. I remember my mom saying that she'd wanted a microwave oven ever since she first saw one in 1952, but it took us until 1979 before we finally got one! |
