Have you ever wondered why Coke comes with a smile? It’s because it gets you high. They took the cocaine out almost a hundred years ago. You know why? It was redundant.
In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.
20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get it’s hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)
40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dialate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.
45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.
60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.
60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.
60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.
Ireneparalegal 12-22-2006, 12:45 AM Quick, pass me a coke! Mmmmmm, I love Coke. Caffeine free diet Coke.

That Aspartame will kill you , I'll take my chances with the sugar
moeee 12-22-2006, 02:17 AM I hate that Aspartame crap as well, it makes my head hurt sometimes.
I only drink the original stuff.
Hollow 12-22-2006, 02:28 AM i can't find an article, but on my local news yesterday there was a man who found a huge wasp in his can of some drink made by coca cola. he called the company to report it and all they did was offer him a coupon for twelve more free cans.

They're both as bad as each other. Either the aspartame in the diet will rot your brain, or the sugar in the real stuff will clog your arteries.
And whatever one you choose, the caffeine and phosphorus will drain the calcium out of your bones.

Czas na Zywiec 12-22-2006, 03:56 AM which is why there's nothing more healthy for you than good old water.
Sharop 12-22-2006, 10:05 AM I must admit, I drink Coke quite a lot.
Because...
it tastes nice. :)
PZelda 12-22-2006, 12:00 PM Thank god I stopped drinking soda in April of 2005.
FOLrocks1 12-22-2006, 12:23 PM Well I usually don't drink coke anyway. Is this any similar to Diet Sprike? That's what I always drink.
Jo_Luvs_Ketchup 12-22-2006, 02:35 PM I won't read anything bad about Coke, so I skipped the article. I love it too much to read anything bad, but if the stuff that happens to your body is good...welll all the better! :)
Well I usually don't drink coke anyway. Is this any similar to Diet Sprike? That's what I always drink.
Unfortunately, yes. All diet sodas are the same. :(
But we've all got our vices. I like diet pepsi myself. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/ernaehrung/food-smiley-008.gif
Life woukd be pretty dull if didn't do anything that wasn't good for us.

See? I told you people!
Beer is much better for you!
;)
Sharop 12-22-2006, 06:05 PM There didn't seem to me to be anything majorly bad in the article. A few regrettable things, perhaps, but I didn't see it as spreading a bad message about Coke.
hippiechick60 12-22-2006, 06:51 PM ohhh sure this not very healthy for you but gee you made it sound like it will kill you or something! i sure hope the coke company doesn't see this! not they probley care anyway as long as they sell the stuff i guess!
PZelda 12-22-2006, 06:59 PM See? I told you people!

;)
Haha, yes. I'll chime in with an "AMEN!" :D
Not the domestic stuff, though. Real beer = imported beers

I have to say, I didn't see anything in the original post that was saying amazingly bad stuff about the drink. In fact, after reading that, I'd probably be more inclined to drink Coke, especially after reading that it stimulates the the pleasure receptors in our brains.
Can someone tell me what the negative stuff is? Because I can't see it.
I had Coke today, by the way. Very nice.
Does anyone remember the song I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing? By the New Seekers? "I'd like to build the world a home/And furnish it with love/Grow apple trees and honey bees/And snow white turtle doves/I'd like to teach the world to sing/In perfect harmony..."
They did a Coke commerical with the same tune, and changed the lyrics to, "I'd like to buy the world a Coke..."
I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing isn't a bad song, you know.
dawsongirl 12-23-2006, 01:56 AM Coke....or Heroin....hmm......
Yeah, I think I'll take my chances on Coke. Seriously, if people spent as much time slamming real problems like, I dunno, huffing, as they spend damming pop, we may get something worthwhile accomplished. Holy ****....
Coffee has like 100 different chemicals in it....go tear that apart for awhile.

NO! Please don't tear down coffee. That's my vice.;) I'm drinking some right now.

swedeace 12-23-2006, 10:14 AM I hate that Aspartame crap as well, it makes my head hurt sometimes.
There's a reason for that. The ingredients in Aspartame are headache-prone. I'm with you here. If I drink a juice/soda, I'll always go with the real sugar instead of this ingredient found in the "diet" and "light" sections.
swedeace 12-23-2006, 10:17 AM Thank god I stopped drinking soda in April of 2005.
I've also cut down my soda intake tremendously since around mid-November 2006 because of all the sugar it contains. I am finding that I am not missing sodas all that much.

YES! That's one of my fave beers.
I gotta be in the mood for a Guinness, though. That stuff REALLY kicks your ass if you're not in the mood.
Sharop 12-23-2006, 11:50 AM Talking of soft drinks, after I became a fan of the Back to the Future trilogy, I started drinking Pepsi more, because Marty drank it a few times in those movies.
I think I can actually taste the difference between Coke and Pepsi.
I gotta be in the mood for a Guinness, though. That stuff REALLY kicks your ass if you're not in the mood.
Amen.

It is the beer that eats like a meal, I can't drink more than 3 (too heavy) which makes it a good choice when you want to stay semi coherant
Corolla 12-23-2006, 02:46 PM What happens to your body if you drink sprite? :p
Courtnee 12-23-2006, 02:53 PM NO! Please don't tear down coffee. That's my vice.;) I'm drinking some right now.
YES. But I can't stand it black. It has to have some flavor to it.
Corolla 12-23-2006, 03:22 PM Is aspartame really that bad for you? (offtopic :p )
I'm drinking a Cherry Coke right now.
And loving it.
;)

You can say that again! Guinness the one alcohol that dietitians will prescribe to undernourished patients. I has everything, protein, carbs, minerals, etc. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/ernaehrung/food-smiley-005.gif
Got to admit though, that's one Scottish/Irish stereotype I don't fit. I hate the stuff!

PZelda 12-25-2006, 12:53 AM Amen.

I just thought you should know I had some Japanese beer tonight and it was pretty damn good. The Japanese do it right with their beer!
