TVFactFan 12-20-2006, 08:58 PM Received lots of CBS eps of One Day at a Time Today in the Mail and watching the Julie's Wedding Episode and she s hard to look at. They should have did this storyline for Barabara instead. Damm she looked Horrible. This was the Start of the 1979-80 Season
Ireneparalegal 12-20-2006, 09:04 PM Not to mention that horrendous bridal outfit she wore.

Yeah and how bout her wanting to get married in the Park?-lol
Mr. Television 12-20-2006, 09:17 PM That was probably when she was at her worst. I watched it when it originally aired and I never noticed anything. I didn't know anything was even wrong with Mack until after she was fired. lol

Ridiculous, but sooooo Julie.
I wonder how the actor felt abt playing Mackenzie's husband? I bet he wishes he was marrying Barbara instead.

Mackenzie's Bad Look made the Julie character look 14 Years older than Barbara. She looked more like her AUNT instead of her Sister. Her and Ann looked like SISTERS instead-lol

I haven't seen that show in quite awhile. I'd probably notice it now since I'd be looking for it. Back then all I cared about was Barbara anyway. lol
Brian Damage 12-20-2006, 09:48 PM She must've been doing the HARDCORE stuff!!! lol

That was when her cocaine and alcohol addiction went full tilt. It was beginning to surface when she got arrested at the tail end of the 77-78 season and it was slowly beginning during the 78-79 season. At the end of the 78-79 season you can see that she was getting strung out. But when the 79-80 begun it was so out of control that her clothes had to be padded and one of the producers stated that they could even stand to do a close up shot of her that was how bad she looked. At the time of her first firing she looked as old as Bonnie Franklin. When the show started she looked slightly older than Bonnie. It was due to the rough life Mackenzie had. It was too bad what happened because in the long run it hurt the show because One Day at A Time was never the same without her. You feel the void when she was first written out during the 79-80 season and the beginning of the 80-81 season. The show had something missing and it was the conflict between Julie and Ann. Julie's storylines made the show move in a powerful way especially when she ran away from home, dealing with lack of direction in life, religious zeal and her almost marrying a guy nearly her dad's age.

Yup, I had said that she was looking like Barbara's Aunt and Ann's Sister in the ep-:Julie's Wedding"-lol
seventies_sitcoms 12-21-2006, 02:30 PM Julie/Mack was the best on the show. I really think the show was dull when she wasn't involved with it. Despite Valerie being the better looking one, Julie's antics ruled the show.

WHOO-BOYYY! She looks like she is at death's door. It looks like she is just wasting away.
mstewart 12-21-2006, 11:49 PM Yep she was at the brink of losing her life before the producers stepped in and took action by firing her.

mstewart 12-22-2006, 12:04 PM Here how Mackenzie look from the ODAT reunion show from last year:

She looks great and you tell she is taking care of herself. It is good that Hollywood was willing, even though she struggled at first to prove to Hollywood that she is clean and sober, to put her past behind her and give her another chance. She is an excellent actress and is quite natural.
Ireneparalegal 12-22-2006, 12:06 PM Mackenzie looked great when she appeared on Beverly Hills 90210 when they did an episode abt intervention.
I loved her role in American Graffitti. She was awesome in that role.
I knew she did a series a while back, I had to search for it and here is the info for that show called SO WEIRD:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169247/ She looked great in this show.
Drugs really can make someone look horrible. I have seen people who look sooooo old when they are really young, but the drugs eat them from the inside out. It does horrific things to your skin, not to mention your mind.

I see she still has her tattoo. I think you saw it a few times in Season 1, but then on I think it was covered up. Maybe I just didn't notice it later episodes? She looks like sombody in their mid-20's in that photo above.

No. She was at her worst in 1983. She looked horrific in the fall of 83'. It was really bad.

Haven't found any of those CBS eps yet-lol
ThomasE 01-28-2007, 03:59 PM Let me tell you, bro. It was like "yikes"!
mstewart 01-28-2007, 07:31 PM The episode of Julie's wedding and the three episodes she was in at the Fall of 83 Mackenzie looked like death was knocking at her door. It was sad to watch those episodes. Mack was a vital part of the show especially with the conflicts between Julie and Ann as well as Julie and Barbara.
I believe the reason why guys preferred Julie over Barbara because Julie did not mind taking a walk on the wild side and she projected that image. Whereas Barbara was Miss Wholesome and it was projected as well.
Again, as I stated in previous postings on the subject the cast seemed lost when she was fired in the spring of 80. It was a huge void in the show.

Well I must not be like most guys because I have no interest in a UATTRACTIVE GIRL who is EASY_lol

What a stunning photo. They all look great in this pic. I too am happy Mackenzie Phillips is doing well and seems to be happy. Like her father, she is now helping other drug addicts. She is now a licensed counselor if I'm not mistaken. I'm looking forward to renting ODAAT...I never saw it during its original run and maybe once or twice in syndication. I also missed the TV reunion and it will be included on the DVD as a bonus feature. Cool! :D

Who's that guy that's with her? That's not who she married.
Julie wedding talk from '06-'07. I trust Jules will do the right thing tonight. Team Fred.
Bonniegirl 09-20-2015, 04:23 PM Julie wedding talk from '06-'07. I trust Jules will do the right thing tonight. Team Fred.
Yeah!!! Marry Fred, leave Max for ME!!!!!;) :D
Ronny G 09-20-2015, 05:40 PM This whole episode seemed rushed and uneven to me. I wish they would have shown Julie's first encounter with Max and Fred, instead of it happening off camera. Maybe that would have shown a love scene. She just comes home and announces she's getting married, and this Max dude seems obsessed with her, and keeps pestering her, and she shows zero interest in him. Unless they edited out a scene, she acted like she didn't want anything to do with him, and there was no romantic chemistry. Then, they couldn't even get the actor who played the father to make an appearance. Julie acted like a spoiled brat, Max was more appealing of the two!

Yeah! Maybe like you said if they actually showed Julie on the ski trip meeting them ,and we saw some of the back story it would have made more sense! ;) It should have been a three parter! ;)
And as much as I like Michael Lembeck and thought he was fine, and the character of Max was good. He was funny and added a spark to ODAAT, the way he was introduced was weird. A jerk stealing his best friends bride!
In real life, Max would be considered obsessed , even stalker-ish! He would really have pursued her more subtly or he would really look like a d*ck, not caring that it was his best friends girl, or seem like he had a screw loose or something! And as I said before without sounding like a broken record, too far fetched that the bride would just switch grooms during the ceremony ! It would have been more realistic if Fred and Julie got married, got through the ceremony and Max and her happened to get alone during the reception and started making out than!;) And she realized she was in love with him and not Fred! Or if Max showed up on their honeymoon spot ,conveniently taking a "vacation" where they were honeymooning! And that is how he and Julie would get together! And Julie would get an annulment from Fred and marry Max ! :)
But these were too of my favorite eps, even though it was far fetched!!! I LOVED that Good looking Max was joining the cast, and Fred was cute too! ;) and also for the goofy factor, Mack looking so bad ,and that goofy a**ed wedding dress, and nobody barely even batting an eye about her marrying the best man! etc.:D Can't wait to see it again tonight! ;) :D
1960'sTVfan 09-21-2015, 09:05 AM Poor Michael Lembeck. MacKenzie Phillips isn't attractive, not even mentioning the substance abuse problems she was having at the time. I'm surprised he agreed to be on this show, even more surprised he accepted the role he was given. Maybe he needed a job and this was all he could get.

Yeah! She didn't look like somebody he would pick for his wife! If you steal your best friends girl at least have her be a healthy looking non drug addict! There really wasn't much chemistry there, I wonder if he was ever worried that she might have hepatitis or something when he had to kiss her?:p  Also I wonder if he was worried anytime they could decide to let him go too ,if she got kicked off the show, figuring they wouldn't need her husband? I wonder if he signed a contract so that wouldn't happen?
Speaking of signing ,Michael Lembeck is left handed! A little something I noticed seeing him write at the travel agency ! ;)
Mickey4ever 09-21-2015, 05:45 PM I do not remember ever seeing the wedding episodes before, may have, but forgotten, but nothing seemed familiar.
I agree with all, very strange the way all the events unfolded, like a good bit happened off-screen.
The wedding attire was strange, but then so were a lot of the fashions back then... I always laugh at Schneider, a super in an apartment building, had those really wide bell bottom jeans on! :)
