I like so many rap songs. I'm gonna name rap albums i like instead of rap songs. Why do you think Southernrappers are garbage? I don't have time to name all of the rap songs I like; yes, I like 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, Wu Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, A Tribe Called Quest, Souls of Mischief, Dr. Dre, NWA, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Redman, Ice Cube, etc. but I'm sorry but Im not going to be AS into some of them and the other people you mentioned because their time has come and gone long ago. You're older than me, and I dont remember as clearly some of the old school rappers you mentioned because they were popular in the 80s...many before I was born. And Southern rap has it's own uniqueness to it, just like West Coast rap and East Coast did. East coast and West coast already had their time in hip hop and now the South is having their turn. Can you honestly say that Outkast did not have some of the realist lyrics in their song "Da Art of Storytellin" especially Andre's and Slick Rick's part. That song came out in 1998 and I was 10 years old at the time...so you expect me to remember songs from 1986? I'm not one of those people that is constantly complaining about the current state of music, so I like songs that are out now. Like I said, I do respect the older rappers that came before and have listened to them, but I'm not going to listen to rappers that came out 10, 15 and 20 years ago all the time. isiahthomas 01-26-2007, 06:05 PM The reason i think most southern rappers are garbage is because they can't rap LOL. Most of them have no lyrical skills at all and they rap about the same ignorant stuff over and over again every album. Only south rappers i like are Goodie Mob(Ceelo and Big Gipp are very weird LOL), 8Ball and MJG, Geto Boys. I used to like Ludacris when he was underground. His music is too commercial and pop now. I like Outkast's first album. I don't like their other albums. Big Boi should've left Andre when he started acting weird. Andre is a weirdo and i wish he hadn't started wearing gay clothes and singing. The thing i hate about rap music right now is that too many artists are slaves to their record companies. What i mean by that is too many of them are doing commercial, pop and gay songs to sell records because that's their record companies are telling them to make those kind of songs because that's what's selling. The youngsters who are buying rap cd's now don't know a damn thing about real lyricists and that's why rappers who can rap real well like Canibus, AZ, KRS One, Cormega, Brand Nubian, Ras Kass aren't selling because the people that's buying the records don't wanna hear real lyrics and songs that have messages in them. It's all a plan by the white man who's in charge of these record companies to keep blacks ignorant. I also don't watch Rap City anymore on BET because they show the same corny rappers videos everyday and they won't play videos by rappers who can rap. I also don't buy rap magazines anymore such as The Source, XXL, Murder Dog because they interview the same corny rappers every month. I don't see rap music getting any better in the future. I think rap is gonna get a lot worse. The thing that's sad about the state of rap music now is that too many rappers are only doing rap to get paid. The black youth who are buying the records look up to these rappers and the rappers don't give a damn about what type of image they're portraying on their records. These rappers are letting the black youth know that it's cool to sell drugs, it's cool to be a pimp, it's cool to be a thug, it's cool for blacks to kill each other, it's cool for blacks to get locked up, it's cool to be unintelligent and use slang words instead of speaking proper, it's cool for young black girls to have a bunch of kids. The rappers that do have messages in their songs that preach about education, politics and knowledge such as Public Enemy, KRS One, Dead Prez, Paris, The Coup, Brand Nubian, Geto Boys, Gang Starr, their music gets overlooked because the ignorant black youth don't wanna hear about that stuff. They'd rather hear ignorant rap songs and that's pathetic. I can't even remember the last time i bought a rap cd. That's how garbage rap is to me now. isiahthomas 01-26-2007, 06:24 PM Another thing i hate about rap music now is that you got rappers who've been in the industry for a long time that are following trends to sell records instead of doing the same music that made them successful in the first place. The artists i'm talking about are LL Cool J, Mobb Deep, Too Short, Keith Murray, Method Man, M.O.P., QTip of A Tribe Called Quest. The reason i named these artists is because instead of them doing the type of music that made them successful in the beginning, now they decide to jump on the bandwagon of other artists and producers that are doing wack music to sell records. LL Cool J's last 3 albums are trash and out of the 3, the only one i heard is Ten. The reason i say they're trash is because he's doing pop songs now to appeal to a younger audience when he should be making music for people who grew up on him instead of changing his style. His music is so gay now and i'm very disappointed in him because i was a fan of his back in the day. I read that for his next album, he wants 50 Cent to be the executive producer LOL. What a joke. Since his last 3 albums were soft, he's gonna hook up with 50 so he can do hard music again LOL. 50's last album was wack. He's a pop artist now. Can you believe this is the same dude who dissed Ja Rule for doing pop and love songs? LOL. Mobb Deep and M.O.P. disappointed me signing with G Unit. Mobb Deep's last album was very bad i heard from a lot of people. I haven't heard the album and i don't wanna hear it. M.O.P.'s album will probably never come out. M.O.P. has signed too many bad record contracts because their albums always end up getting shelved. They did a album for Rocafella records like 5 years ago i think called Ghetto Warfare because they signed with Rocafella in 2002. The album finally came out last year but it was released on another record label and i don't think anybody bought it because the album didn't have good promotion. Ever since Too Short moved to Atlanta from Oakland, California, his music has changed because most of his beats are done by Little Jon which i'm sure has some people from his hometown upset. He doesn't even work with Ant Banks anymore for production which disappoints me because him and Ant Banks have good chemistry. Keith Murray's last album on Def Jam 4 years ago was trash because he tried to go pop and it didn't work because nobody bought the album LOL. I'm sure he didn't wanna do pop music and Def Jam probably forced him to do pop songs so his album would sell. Def Jam ended up dropping him from the label because the album didn't sell. Plus the fact that he beat up 2 Def Jam employees hahahahahahahahahahahaha. I've heard some good reviews about Method Man's latest album even though i haven't heard it yet. His 2 albums before this latest one were trash especially Tical 0 The Prequel album that came out 3 years ago. That album was very pop. QTip pissed me off with his solo album Amplified. That album is so garbage. He tried to go mainstream on that album and he lost a lot of his fans. I loved A Tribe Called Quest back in the day so you know i was pissed when i heard Amplified album because it sounded nothing like the music he did when he was with the group. At least Phife kept his solo album hard and street. I always liked him more than QTip anyway. platinumblondelife 01-26-2007, 08:14 PM I can understand where you're coming from, yes, many rappers have sold out like LL Cool J and Method Man, but it's not getting them very far. I don't believe it's the rapper's fault for making kids act a certain way; it influences you up to a point, but the people around you have to help shape you too. Have you heard of Z-Ro? He's from Texas...and I was just wondering. I think there has to be a balance though, we do need more rappers who are making something different from the same club type music, but there is nothing wrong with club-banger music which the South is known for, not to me at least maybe because I'm young, maybe when I get older I'll get tired of it because I won't be into partying or whatever. Honestly, I do not think that Lil Wayne is bad at all, have you heard him rap over other tracks? He's good imo (im sure youll disagree lol). There should be conscious rappers like KRS-one and the people you mentioned, but not everyone wants to listen to it all the time, I certainly don't want to...but that's just me.lol. isiahthomas 01-26-2007, 08:54 PM Yes i've heard of Z-Ro and he's ok but the beats i've heard on his album suck. Only rappers i like from Houston are the Geto Boys. Willie D is my favorite member of the group because he always tells the truth and he doesn't give a damn who doesn't like his opinion LOL. He raps about stuff like child abuse, racism, politics. platinumblondelife 01-26-2007, 09:53 PM Yes i've heard of Z-Ro and he's ok but the beats i've heard on his album suck. Only rappers i like from Houston are the Geto Boys. Willie D is my favorite member of the group because he always tells the truth and he doesn't give a damn who doesn't like his opinion LOL. He raps about stuff like child abuse, racism, politics. I like Z-Ro...I've liked chopped and screwed music for some reason since I was young, I'll chop and screw a christian song lol. I like Geto Boys,I remember this one song I heard when I was younger, but I don't remember the name of it, but I remember the video. It seemed like one of them was in church or something, then I remember someone getting beat up and bloody. I don't know if Im even thinking of the right video, because I just vaguely remember the song and video for it. Maybe I'll see it again on mtv jams lol. isiahthomas 01-27-2007, 02:36 PM Geto Boys video you're talking about is Mind Playing Tricks On Me. isiahthomas 01-27-2007, 02:39 PM Chopped and screwed music sucks. platinumblondelife 01-27-2007, 09:25 PM Well it's not for everyone. Thanks for telling me the name of that song, I saw it for the firt time in a long time at http://youtube.com/watch?v=nnRS-3AyGU and I'm now wondering when this song came out.
