View Full Version : Do you think Florida acted a bit too hostile... Brian Damage 12-04-2006, 10:22 AM towards the kids??? They were worried about her because she was out until 2am, something she never does and Florida told them, "If you don't like it, too bad." James"Thunder"Early 12-04-2006, 11:26 AM I think she was. Seeing the type of area they lived in, the kids did have a reason to be concerned. Brian Damage 12-04-2006, 11:30 AM I think she was. Seeing the type of area they lived in, the kids did have a reason to be concerned. Exactly, I understand in a way, she was declaring her independance, but 2am is really late. The kids had a right to be worried and Florida came down on them. TVFactFan 12-04-2006, 11:38 AM towards the kids??? They were worried about her because she was out until 2am, something she never does and Florida told them, "If you don't like it, too bad." I don't think so because Thelma and J.J were over 18 Brian Damage 12-04-2006, 12:07 PM I don't think so because Thelma and J.J were over 18 It really has nothing to do with being 18. The kids were worried. Florida never cruised the bar scene. The least she could've done was call. Ireneparalegal 12-04-2006, 12:55 PM I so agree with you. Worrying abt your mother doesn't end when you reach 18. I know when I was out dating I always let my kids know what time I will be home and/or that I was alright. At those times I always had a pager, so they could reach me. Florida wasn't reachable. Only she had the way to communicate with her family. All that talk abt how dangerous the ghetto was etc. was sure hypocritical on Florida's part when she herself didn't let her kids know she was ok. Brieannas21 12-04-2006, 04:35 PM Florida was a grown woman and she didn't have to answer to anybody. Ben could have driven Florida home or walked her home. She had been living in that neighborhood for over 20 years, she knew the criminals and they knew her. TVFactFan 12-04-2006, 06:18 PM The point Florida was trying to make was, the Kids all of a sudden was concerned about her once she had a outdoor life like they already had. So that's why she said "I had a Good Time Tonight, and I going out Again, and you don't like it, TOUGH CHITLINS"-LOL Ireneparalegal 12-04-2006, 06:30 PM The point Florida was trying to make was, the Kids all of a sudden was concerned about her once she had a outdoor life like they already had. So that's why she said "I had a Good Time Tonight, and I going out Again, and you don't like it, TOUGH CHITLINS"-LOL Her kids were always concerned for her. They showed it during that episode when Florida was moody and hit Michael. She left and they wondered where she was at. There are other times they showed their concern. Remember how they even cancelled their plans for the evening because they didn't want her home alone. That was showing their concern. Most kids wouldn't give a rat's ass if their mom was home alone, they would go out with their friends. Florida made it seem like they didn't want her to go out. That was not it. They just wanted to know THAT SHE WAS OK. THAT SHE WAS ALIVE. Even J.J. said he knew there had to be a phone at the place she was at, she could have called. Simple as that. Yeah but J.J expressed it like he was JAMES and not her son-lol Ireneparalegal 12-04-2006, 09:23 PM Yeah but J.J expressed it like he was JAMES and not her son-lol If he was expressing himself like James, it was because he WAS JAMES' SON. He wasn't trying to talk to her like a husband. A son grows up, chances are he is going to behave like his father. I meant to say he was talking to her like he was her DAD instead of a concerned son Brieannas21 12-05-2006, 01:12 AM I meant to say he was talking to her like he was her DAD instead of a concerned son Exactly and I think that he was joking and giving Flo a little pay back for all the times she had said it to the kids. Brian Damage 12-05-2006, 02:06 AM JJ was joking Solomon, but he was really concerned for her. TVFactFan 12-05-2006, 02:08 AM JJ was joking Solomon, but he was really concerned for her. Florida didn't know he was JOKING which is why she got Upset Brian Damage 12-05-2006, 02:11 AM Who takes silly ass JJ seriously? Come on now! lol TVFactFan 12-05-2006, 02:17 AM Who takes silly ass JJ seriously? And besides, I think she took it the wrong way, thinking the kids didn't want her out. She reacted like that is what the real reason was, but that was far from it. The kids didn't want her home, bored and alone. They ONLY WANTED A PHONE CALL. TVFactFan 12-05-2006, 06:42 PM She was dumb then. LOL Ireneparalegal 12-05-2006, 10:11 PM But J.J said she was going to GROUND HER-lol Which led to Flo saying "I think you got that all wrong J.J, You don't ground me, I GROUND YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL That was J.J. being sarcastic. I still say Flo was wrong to let her children worry. It was 2 a.m. for God's sake. Brieannas21 12-05-2006, 10:13 PM You all must has been watching a different episode that I was watching. Because I didn't see Flo get upset at all, the only thing that she basically said was "If you don't like it, to bad." I don't think she was hostile, yelling or upset. I think this is being blown way out of proportion. Also Florida was the parent, it wasn't any of her kids business where she was, as long as she came home. She could have came home at 8 that next morning, it was still none of their business. Her kids were grown and she was out having a great time since James had died and she deserved it. Ireneparalegal 12-05-2006, 10:36 PM No one is disputing that Flo deserved to go out. I am glad she did. I wish we could have seen more of that. However, she taught her children to let the family know where they were at at all times. Same with a parent. This way, she instills that she as an adult, even though she is an adult, still shows concern for her family by letting them know, "Hi kids, I am here having a good time, don't worry. bye." This way the kids are not losing sleep and they see that their own mother shows that even she calls home to let the family know where she is at. Sometimes kids like to throw it in their parents' faces how hypocritical they are. "You tell me not to cuss, but it's ok for you to cuss?" I feel parents are their kids' rolemodels and should do to their children what they would want in return. Brieannas21 12-05-2006, 10:53 PM No one is disputing that Flo deserved to go out. I feel parents are their kids' rolemodels and should do to their children what they would want in return. I could see her calling home if she had little kids to check in on them and to let them hear her voice. But but with grown adults, She DIDN'T have to do anything, it would have been nice if she would have called them but she didn't have too. Parents don't have to let their grown kids know anything that they don't want them to know. I'm pretty sure that if it was 4 or 5 in the morning and Flo wasn't home, she would have called. She was finished raising her kids, she had set all kind of examples her for kids when they were coming up. Like my Mom tell me "I have raised you, now it's my time to have fun." And that's what Flo was doing, having fun and not worrying about anyone but her for once. Jonathan 12-07-2006, 10:15 PM It really has nothing to do with being 18. The kids were worried. Florida never cruised the bar scene. The least she could've done was call. I agree. Florida seemed to give off a "hostile" vibe a good portion of the time. Their age did not matter, they had a right to be concerned, especially considering their "area," since they did live in the ghetto. unsolved88 12-19-2006, 12:58 AM I just turned 18 in July and my parents still call me to let if they decide to stay out a little later. It's not a question of age so much as it is common courtesy. I thought Florida was very belligerent towards her children when she found out how worried they were. If anything, she should have considered herself lucky that she had such concerned children. catlover79 09-15-2007, 09:47 PM Yes - they were genuinely worried about her. She could've made a quick call to put their minds at ease...it's not that hard! Ireneparalegal 09-15-2007, 09:51 PM Yes - they were genuinely worried about her. She could've made a quick call to put their minds at ease...it's not that hard! Exactly. 25 seconds is all it would have taken. And that includes dropping in the dime and turning the rotary dial. ThomasE 09-15-2007, 09:51 PM Florida was a grown woman and she didn't have to answer to anybody.
