In that first season episode (see DVD) at the end, Howard takes this shiny colorful square thingabob and puts it on the screen of their b&w TV. It's supposed to add color to the picture. I never heard of such a thing until viewing this episode. Anybody know of them? That's another interest tidbit on 1950s TV.

My father mentioned that when he was a student at National Schools in Los Angeles, California in 1947-1948 in the Electronics Technician program that they had motorized color wheel that they used to put in front of the Cathode Ray Tube of the black and white television to produce a color image.

I think it was a fixed color filter that showed the top third of the TV screen blue, the middle third red, and the bottom green. Pretty brilliant huh? I don't think they were hugely popular. :)
