View Full Version : Post your all-time favorite episode here TJ 02-17-2000, 10:13 PM What is your all-time favorite episode of Gimme a Break and why? TJ 06-18-2000, 04:18 AM My favorite episodes are from the first couple of seasons. One of my favorite episodes has to be the pilot episode when Katie is arrested for shoplifting.. chris jacob 07-21-2000, 06:34 PM Todd my favorite episode is baby of the Family wre samantha put joey in black face who is your favorite chaerctorI like nell and joey the bestI tried to e mail youtonight but it was sent back is it out of order factsoflife 09-11-2000, 05:08 PM well i haven't seen gimme a break since USA dropped it.. but i would have to say the one where nell and her friend played by thelma hopkins go to new york and fine a suitecase with a gun in it. Lara Jill Miller Fan 09-15-2000, 01:15 PM I find it hard to pick favorites of the sitcom. I have all of them on tape, by pure luck if not by wisdom, and to pick one is so unfair to all the work done for others. I will state it here however, I would like to start some polls, if this is fine with everyone. (I just showed up today, seems I would have been here ever sense this started if someone told me about it.) I just got back from a True or False Test on this issue of 'Gimmie a Break' and it was nice to relive those days. nate08 10-26-2000, 11:51 AM I have the vast majority on tape, and two of my favorites are the one where Nell discovers Katie is seeing a married man, and the other had to be when Mama Maybelle had the eye operation. zoomie 03-16-2001, 07:29 PM Although I haven't seen the show in a long time, my fave episode is the one where Nell has a problem with her phone bill and the guy who works for the phone company calls her "Mrs. Fong". I think I remember her slamming the door to the phone company's office and all of the pictures fall off of the wall. godsprincess_76 06-22-2001, 07:51 PM The one where Samantha thought she was pregnant when she kissed a boy. Nell freaked out. It was funny. angel676 10-08-2001, 04:26 AM It's hard to choose just one, but my favorites are, when Katie was part of a band, when Katie shoplifted, when Julie was smoking, when Samantha was dating some guy and he left her on a beach, when Katie was having a problem with a DUI or something like that(it's to prevent children), the one where Julie and her boyfriend got married and the one where Nell and her friend was on Wheel of Fortune. Sorry this was a long list, I liked alot of them. hch 11-10-2001, 05:15 PM I haven't seen this show in a long whole, not since USA dropped it for some stupid stuff, but I do remember some eps: - The first episode: the standout was when the goldfish got sucked up in teh vacuum cleaner - The Episode where Nell pays an unforgettable visit to the phone company: All hell broke loose the minute her phone got taken out - The Andy Gibbs episode - The episode where Samantha thought the world was gonna end if she doesn't go over to Herbie's house - Nell tells the truth by hypnosis - The New York two-parter episode with Nell and Addy - The epsiode where we see how Nell came to live at the Kanisky house - The episode where Julie and Jonathan go skiing in the mountains and Nell catches them - The episode where evryone ends up leaving the house and heads over to Katie's apartment - The episode where the Chief dies and Joey plays with toy trains in the chief's room. - The Man from Zoron - The episode where Nell gets shot by the Chief's old gun - The Two-part episode where everyone leaves Glenlawn for new lives - Harry the hamster - The episode with the racist kid host. Nell taught him a lesson he ever forgot OKCRay 09-20-2003, 08:11 PM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. The interactions Nell had with the cranky nurse were priceless, but the way she dealt with the chatty woman on the pay-phone really sent this one over the top! The woman kept talking to her friend Mildred and would not let Nell use the phone (even when "Mildred" ran to answer her doorbell!), so Nell took her purse and hung it on a gurney, allowing her to use the phone as the gurney rolled away. "Hello Mildred? Oh girl I hate your guts! Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" Sweetbabygirl 06-26-2004, 05:41 PM How could you guys forget the one with Nell, Addy and Joey visiting Alabama for the wedding of Nell's sister Loretta? That one was a classic, especially when the girls sang a 60's medley. My other favorites are Julie liking a guy but he happened to like Katie, and Sam having Joey wearing blackface to Nell's choir program. mastersOfclassics 06-30-2004, 02:48 PM i forgot all of the episodes. I just hope they put it back on. Eric777 07-12-2004, 04:31 PM Nell Goes To Jail lordstides 01-14-2005, 03:07 AM I think it was the first episode from the second season. The one where Nell gets pissed off and pulls the telephone chord out of the wall! She gets arrested and dresses up like a "woe as me" Mammy-like maid whose being discriminated against--and it works! (Maybe there is some cultural symbolism to this) I was lucky enough to see the filming of a "Gimme A Break" episode in 1985! It was so much fun watching how the whole process worked. Even the cast members hung around and signed autographs! I can't believe this show isn't being shown on Nick at Nite, TV Land or Hallmark! Maybe it is because people say the show is "racist" and demeaning towards African Americans. I always thought the show dealt with these themes and racial issues in a positive, constructive manner. It has been so long since I've seen an episode, that I can't think of any examples of how they dealt with these racial subject matters. Does the "Blackface" episode deal with racism? Was it "Racist?" Should this show be banned? Is this show banned due to so-called racist undertones? Eric777 01-14-2005, 11:35 AM Excuse you no the show is not banned Skywalker 02-10-2005, 03:34 AM Katie the Crook Do or Diet SoapFan71 11-21-2005, 04:30 PM I liked the one where Nell & Addy go on "Wheel of Fortune". Also I remember them doing a LIVE episode but I don't remember what it was about! SoapFan71 11-21-2005, 04:33 PM I also liked the one when Nell babysits a little girl who is a real BRAT & pulls the head off the doll that Nell gave her!!! Wildchats 11-21-2005, 10:04 PM My favorites, being one of the most devoted fans of the show (hehehe) are as follows: (I can't believe I didn't write my favorites back in 2000) Hahaha! Okay, 2 from each season. Let's call this the Gimme A Break Sinacori list: "Samantha Steals a Squad Car" (Season 1) "Sam's Affair" (Season 1) "Nell Goes to Jail" (Season 2) "Katie Steals Julie's Jock" (Season 2) "Herbie" (Season 3) "Samantha's Protest" (Season 3) "Monkey See, Mokey Do" (Season 4) "TV or Not TV" (Season 4) "Joey's Train" (Season 5) "The Gun" (Season 5) "Joey's Teacher" (Season 6) "Save The Church" (Season 6) A lot of other episdoes are favorites. Mostly, the majority of season 3 and 4 are up there with the ones I listed, as well as a few from seasons 1,2, 5 and 6. Smartboy 08-24-2007, 11:31 PM I am not sure is I am doing this right, but I am responding to the message by "OKRay". Because of how little experience I have with this type of technology, I could make a mistake. I highlighted his message and I am hoping that it will come up right before this response. In any event, I would say that the episode that he wrote about is my second favorite episode of the series. It comes write after "Katie Steals Julie's Jock" and right before "Samantha's Protest". If anyone wants to know what I liked about those episodes, my messages about that are right under this one. A little over a year ago, I bought the first season on DVD and I studied this episode very carefully. I was very curious about the actress who played the woman on the pay phone and I wanted to know her name. If you watch the episode closely, you will see that the character's name was never revealed in the episode. I studied the credits and was waiting to see the name for "woman on phone" or something of that nature. What I ended up seeing was "Mrs. Larry Rhine" Through process of elemination, I figured out that this is who it is. After reasearching Hazel Shermet (who there is very little written about), I realized that they were giving her the married name of her real life husband (who has since died). It was not until after I did this research that I realized that it was the same woman who played the door-to-door sales lady on "Mom's Birthday". I thought she did a "great" job of playing both parts! I also learned that she played a part called "woman at party" in an episode called "Nell Goes Door-to-Door". I remember the episode, but I do not remember her part in it. By the way, this episode was from season two. As most of you know that season has not yet been released in this country. I "really" hope that it "eventually" comes out so I can see what she was like in it! kanisky7896 08-25-2007, 01:25 PM I am not sure is I am doing this right, but I am responding to the message by "OKRay". I actually found it cheaper to get Season 2 through amazon.ca. Including shipping, only $31 was charged to my account and I only had to wait a few days to receive it after it was released. The only other thing I had to do was sign for it, because it came from Canada instead of the US. kanisky7896 08-25-2007, 01:44 PM I think it was the first episode from the second season. The one where Nell gets pissed off and pulls the telephone chord out of the wall! She gets arrested and dresses up like a "woe as me" Mammy-like maid whose being discriminated against--and it works! Should this show be banned? Is this show banned due to so-called racist undertones? Hey lordstides, just out of curiosity, do you remember anything else about the taping of "Gimme A Break!" that you attended in 1985? Was the taping you went to taped before or after Dolph Sweet died? The "Blackfaced" episode you are talking about is entitled, "Baby of the Family". That was the episode where Samantha was upset with Nell not only because she forbade Samantha from attending a coed unsupervised camping trip, but also because she was upset that Joey seemed to be getting more and more of Nell's attention while she was getting less and less. Samantha was upset because Joey usurped Samantha's position as the baby of the family, hence the episode's title. Samantha dressed Joey in blackface simply to get back at Nell. So, that's where the racism issue comes into play. kanisky7896 08-25-2007, 02:06 PM There are so many episodes from GAB that I loved, so it is very difficult for me to pick just one. With that said, I think that I will follow Wildchat's lead and just pick out my favorite's from each season. Season 1: "Julie's First Love" " The Emergency" (That was the episode with Hazel Shermet as the "woman on the phone") Season 2: "Sam Faces Death" "Love, Kidney" "Julie Smokes" "Glenlawn Street Blues" Season 3: "The Groupie" "Katie's Commitment" "Samantha's Protest" "Flashback" Season 4: "Breakdance" "Carl's Delicate Moment" "Cat Story" "Monkey See, Monkey Do" Season 5: "Joey's Train" (Even though it was sad to watch, still so to this day) "Adios, Jonathan "Bienvenidos, Jonathan" "Katie's Korner" Season 6: "Sam Goes to College (This episode was originally aired as an hourlong show, but was split into two parts for syndication purposes) " Parents Week" (Parts 1 and 2) " The Jerk" That's my list! I told you it was hard for me to just pick one! :) Smartboy 12-06-2007, 08:10 PM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. The interactions Nell had with the cranky nurse were priceless, but the way she dealt with the chatty woman on the pay-phone really sent this one over the top! "Hello Mildred? Oh girl I hate your guts! Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" On this thread as well as several others I have posted messages about how "crazy" I was about this episode! However, it has been a "long" time since I have gotten any responses! The woman on the pay phone was played by actress Hazel Shermet. She also played the part of Rita from "Mom's Birthday" and Woman at Party in "Nell Goes Door to Door". I thought that she did a "great" job of playing "all" of these parts! I just wish there was more information about her available! I have recently started two threads on this page in which I have expressed my fondness for this actress. One is titled "Skirt" and the other is "Camera". You would have to read the posts to understand why I gave them these titles. Because I did not get any responses to any of my new posts, I am attempting to get the ball rolling by bringing some of the older ones up to the top of the board. Scoobiedoo30 12-09-2007, 02:43 PM Sam steals the Police Car hughpuppies 12-11-2007, 11:20 PM I was never good at knowing names of episodes of tv shows. I like the one where Nell and Telma were on Wheel of fortune and Nell says give me Liberty or Give me New York or something like that and Telma ends of saying it right Give me Liberty or Give me Death. The one where Julie and her Husband move in to the Cheif's room just shortly after he died. Where Nell and Telma think there is a burgler in the house and they keep scaring themselves and everyone else. The one where Nell's friend with the squeaky voice, and Nell was staying with her and there was no heat. She had on Headphones and singing and shaking her head and snapping her hands, Nell says give me them headphones just as I thought no music. Why do you have headphones on when there is no music? Keeps my ears warm, and why do you keep snapping your fingers, it keeps the flies away. Robert 13 12-12-2007, 10:40 AM Where Nell and Telma think there is a burgler in the house and they keep scaring themselves and everyone else. She had on Headphones and singing and shaking her head and snapping her hands, Nell says give me them headphones just as I thought no music. Why do you have headphones on when there is no music? Keeps my ears warm, and why do you keep snapping your fingers, it keeps the flies away. That episode is hysterical!!! I love that whole scene when Nell takes the bear from Angie and punches it. I'm glad we have this episode on dvd. Which episode is the one where Nell and Addy think there is a burglar in the house? Anyone know? Smartboy 01-16-2008, 12:34 AM I think that it is interesting that the poster of this response has a special fondness for "Julie's First Love" in season one and "Samantha's Protest" in season three. On various occasions, I have posted ideas about how on these two episodes the cast in general and Katie in particular express what I consider to be two conflicting points of view. My most recent post on this topic is a thread titield "Evolution" and it was posted on December 1st of last year. You would have to read the thread to really understand why I titled it "Evolution". However, I am going to say here and now that, in my opinion in the two years in between these two episodes, Katie, more or less reversed the process of evolution in terms of her thinking. At the time of my writing, this thread, it has thirty-nine views and "zero" responses! I would "really" like to read what other fans think of the ideas that I expressed in this post! Furthermore, I would say that in "Samantha's Protest" when Julie yanked one of Katie's arms away from the boy and reffered to what she was doing as "disgusting" she was really taking a stand for decency and sophistication. When I look at the post that I am responding to, I see the "Winnie-the-Pooh" emblem at the top and the smiley face after the last sentence. She appears to me as someone who has combined the decency of Julie Kanisky with the perkyness of Caroline from "Caroline in the City". Although I have never met this poster, I think that if you combined the personalities of Julie Kanisky with Caroline Duffy, you would have a "very" lovely person! There are so many episodes from GAB that I loved, so it is very difficult for me to pick just one. :) Smartboy 10-27-2008, 10:50 PM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" I am bringing this thread to the top of the page to accompany the one that I brought to the top a few minutes ago! In both cases, I am quoting the same fellow poster about the same incident from the same episode! The is my favorite episode from the first season and my second favorite from the entire series. The fact that I am bringing both threads to the top of the page is because I have run out of new things to say about this fine show and I would really like to stimulate some conversation! The boards have been very slow lately! Robert 13 10-28-2008, 11:48 AM That episode is hysterical!!! I love that whole scene when Nell takes the bear from Angie and punches it. I'm glad we have this episode on dvd. Which episode is the one where Nell and Addy think there is a burglar in the house? Anyone know? I remembered. It's Police Mamas which is another fave of mine. Hysterical!!! Smartboy 11-02-2008, 04:08 AM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. "Hello Mildred? Oh girl I hate your guts! Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" It looks like the clocks on this board are have not yet caught up with daylight savings time's ending! I posted my last message a little bit over half an hour ago and it has me having posted them an hour later than the actual time! In any event, because I like the episode mentioned in this quote, I am bringing this one up to the top in hopes of stimulating some more conversation. Smartboy 11-07-2008, 10:15 PM My favorites, being one of the most devoted fans of the show (hehehe) are as follows: (I can't believe I didn't write my favorites back in 2000) Hahaha! Once again, I am bringing this thread to the top in an attempt to stimulate some conversation. I am choosing this response to quote because two of the favorites mentioned in this post are also my favorites. To start with, "Katie Steals Julie's Jock" is my absolute favorite episode of the whole series! In my opinion, the site of Julie in those designer boots is to die for! My favorite episode of the third season and my third favorite episode of the series is "Samantha's Protest". I loved seeing Julie be proven right when she said that the handsome boy that they walked past was not whistleing at Kaite, he was calling his dog! In between the two episodes in my order of preference is "The Emergency". This was a first season episode. However, last time I brought this thread to the top, I did it with a quote from that episode. It did not generate any responses. I wonder if it will be different this time around! plurdoc 11-18-2008, 04:54 AM What is your all-time favorite episode of Gimme a Break and why? it's been so long since i've seen an episode! i keep thinking i'm mashing 2 sitcoms together with these, but i'm hoping someone here can set me straight. i remember nell trying to get the kids to do a version of "hair" for a school play, and she got really upset that they misunderstood it. i really didn't get why it was so important then, but i sure do now! i really wish i could see that again. i also remember an episode where kids sing "what the world needs now" and being really touched by it. why can't they make sweet shows like this anymore? Smartboy 11-19-2008, 06:46 PM I am going to have to say that I do not really have a very clear memory of either of those episodes. Also, if the last poster is mixing up two sitcoms, I have no idea what the other one is! One thing that I do know is that a lot of people mix this sereis up with the "Facts of Life". There were both very popular with the Generation X crowd and the people who would become the first generation of Yuppies in about another decade. On top of this, they were both on the same network! Smartboy 12-08-2008, 07:30 PM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. "Hello Mildred? Oh girl I hate your guts! Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" This is the last of a bunch of old threads that I am bringing to the top of the page this evening. This has to do with some posts that I have read by people who have recently joined the community. I would like to give them a chance to read what we were thinking way back when! Because I especially liked the episode that this particular post was about and because of how well-written I think that it is, I am choosing this post as the one to quote in my post. Take care! The episode referred to in this quote has been uploaded in its entirety! It is called the "Emergency" and it is in three parts. Even though I have the first season on DVD, I like the convenience of being able to tune into it right here! Because this is me second favorite episode of the entire sereis, I would really like to stimulate some conversation about it! Nighthawk76 12-30-2008, 01:14 AM "Mom's Birthday" "Julie's First Love" "Hot Muffins" Smartboy 12-31-2008, 07:11 PM "Mom's Birthday" "Julie's First Love" "Hot Muffins" I think that it is interesting that all three of the episodes that you mentioned as your favorites are from the first season. Did you enjoy any episodes from any of the later season? Also, there is something about "Julie's First Love" that I find to be quite interesting. It seems that in the course of two years, the characters from the show changed points of view from a more liberal to a more conservative attitude. This episode operated on the school of thought that it was okay for a girl to ask a guy out on a date. Katie was very instrumental in promoting this idea. Now let us fast-forward two years to "Samantha's Protest"! Early in the episode, Katie and Julie come in from a morning stroll. Julie's tries to make Katie see the reality of the fact that the handsome boy that they walked past was not whistleing at her but calling this dog! Later in the episode, we see the same boy at the protest. Katie flurts her butt off and gets nowhere! Because of how overconfident she is, she does not acknowlage that he is about ready to suck iron! After the plans for the new Mexican reataurant are completed, the first thing that Katie wants to know is whether the cute guy from the protest will be working there! She obviously has plans on flurting with him some more. Some people never give up! Her bubble being bursted by Smanatha is used as comic relief to the episode. In my opinion, it served her right for acting in a manner that was, in the words of Julie "disgusting"! The only thing that I do not understand about the situation is what happened in the course of two years that made Katie feel uncomfortable asking him for a date. In closing, I would just like to point out that this episode is another one that is up on "Youtube"! I like seasons 1 and 2 the most. I think when Joey Lawrence joined during season 3, the episodes became all about him and Nell and less about Nell and the girls and I really didn't like that. Smartboy 01-21-2009, 11:27 PM This is the second of two threads that I have decided to bring to the top of this page. I am doing it to see if I can stimulate any more conversation about this fine sereis! In about an hour, I plan on coming back to see if I have had any success so far! Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" Throughout this evening, I have gone all over this board trying to stimulate some conversation about some of these fine sereis! So are, I have not generated a single response! I even started a new thread on this page. Because of this, I have decided to see what I can do by bringing a couple of old favorites to the top. Becuase this is my favorite quote on this thread, this is the one that I am using for this purpose. Smartboy 02-04-2009, 07:59 PM What is your all-time favorite episode of Gimme a Break and why? In the recent past, I have tried to stimulate some conversation about this fine sereis by bringing four different old threads up to the top and writing about how they pertain to current events and other things that you guys might be interested in. No luck! This is why I am now bringing to the top this oldie but goody! However, it is the only response to anything that I have posted on this page for a long time. I have also done quite a bit of posting on a lot of other pages of shows that I like and gotten very few responses. In any event, there are a lot of different schools of thought about whether it is worse to get insencitive responses like the last one on this thread or to be ignored completely. I am simply throwing this out as food for thought! CJ800 02-11-2009, 03:00 AM One common debate is whether negative attention is better than know attention at all. However, every once in a while I will get a response from someone who is decent and sensible. This is kind of like a needle in a haystack situation! In any event, I have decided to experiment by seeing what happens if I bring this thread to the top of the page. For the record I would now like to offer my three favorite episodes in my order of preferance. Katie Steals Julie's Jock, The Emergency and Samantha's Protest. And just to satisify the curiousity of the guy from Hawii, my collage degree is in social work! At this point, people who read a post that I made earlier this morning might be wondering why a collage graduate like myself is a client at an organization and a volunteer who gets a stipend of twelve dollars a day! This is kind of a long story and I will be happy to share it with whomever is interested. Take care! Smartboy 03-13-2009, 05:28 PM What is your all-time favorite episode of Gimme a Break and why? Smartboy 03-27-2009, 08:42 PM What is your all-time favorite episode of Gimme a Break and why? Usually, when I bring this thread to the top of the page, I am able to generate a response or two. Even though the character of Samantha was never really my type, I will have to agree that she did look pretty good in that dress. On top of this, I really admired her willingness to stand up for what she believed in! I think that she really deserved the date with the handsome boy from the protest that she got at the end! However, because Julie was the one that I had a crush on, what I really liked about the situation was seeing her be proven right! Finaly, if you like this episode, you may want to read what I said about it in my two recent posts called "The Flintstones" and "Katie's Mits/Julie's Teeth". Have fun! Smartboy 04-05-2009, 11:54 PM What is your all-time favorite episode of Gimme a Break and why? This is the third thread on this page that I am bringing to the top since I sat down. I am doing what I can to stimulate some conversation about this fine show! I noticed that, since I raised the first one to the top, it has received three new views. This lets me know that there are some people out there surfing! After I bring this one up, I will leave for a while and see if there is anything new when I return. It would really make my day to read other people's memories of their favorite episodes! Smartboy 04-27-2009, 11:36 PM What is your all-time favorite episode of Gimme a Break and why? I am wondering if bringing this oldie but goody to the top of the page will help stimulate some conversation about this fine sereis! Smartboy 06-04-2009, 01:32 AM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. The interactions Nell had with the cranky nurse were priceless, but the way she dealt with the chatty woman on the pay-phone really sent this one over the top! So far this evening, I have responded to a thread that was already at the top of the page and then brought two of my old favorites to the top in hopes of stimulating some conversation. Because I have not had any success so far, I have decided to raise this oldie but goody to the top of the page. Because I think that this response was so well written, I decided to use it as then one to quote. Smartboy 06-24-2009, 07:23 PM What is your all-time favorite episode of Gimme a Break and why? This is the second of two threads that I am bringing to the top of this page this evening. I was inspired to do this by someone who brought an old thread to the top of the "Brady Bunch" page on this very day. On top of this, I notice that, in the recent past, this page is starting to get more views and even the occasional post. Let us see if people are inspired to respond to either of mine! Smartboy 10-01-2009, 01:12 AM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. In my last post, I told you guys about how all night I have been doing whatever I can to stimulate some conversation about some of these fine shows! Tonight I have been rotating between this page, "Friends" and "Facts of Life". So far, I have not managed to generate any responses. However, I noticed a rather large increase in the number of views on these three pages in the past hour or so. Because of this, I decided to see what happens when I bring this oldie but goodie up to the top! To start with, Hazel Shermet was in it and I am crazy about her! On top of this, I thought that the designer boots that Julie had on at the restaurant really hit the spot! Haven't seen that one in awhile. Forgot that Julie was wearing boots in that one. I remember Julie asking Nell to hide some boots for her because she didn't want her Dad to find out she bought them. I couldn't remember if we saw her actually wearing them. I think it was the episode that Nell was put in a trance. Smartboy 10-20-2009, 09:43 PM Haven't seen that one in awhile. Forgot that Julie was wearing boots in that one. I remember Julie asking Nell to hide some boots for her because she didn't want her Dad to find out she bought them. I couldn't remember if we saw her actually wearing them. I think it was the episode that Nell was put in a trance. In the first place, you are correct, Julie did ask Nell to hide a pair of boots that she had bought because she did not want her Dad to know that she had charged them to his account. This was the episode in which Nell revealed a lot of people's dirty laundry after being hypnotised. In this episode, we never saw Julie wearing her boots. We just saw her hand them to Nell. This was in the third season. However, the episode that I was referring to was in the first season. In this episode, Julie was all dressed up to go to the Mexican restaurant with her family. This attire included brown leather boots and a lovely little skirt. However, the time that I thought that she really outdid herself was in the second season! This was the episode known as "Katie Steals Julie's Jock." I thought that the boots that she had on in this episode helped her to look like a goddess! God bless you Julie! Smartboy 11-14-2009, 03:09 PM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. Because the popular thread that I brought to the top of the page this morning has not sparked any conversation so far, I decided to see what happens if I raise this one. Smartboy 11-29-2009, 11:51 PM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. This includes my response to the most recent post on this page. This being the case, I have decided to bring this oldie but goodie to the top of the page just for the heck of it. Bye! Smartboy 12-03-2009, 05:09 AM It's getting harder to pick favorites now. I like so many of the episodes. I know how about any episode that Lara Jill Miller was in? Gotta watch me some more episodes. Haven't seen any in a while. I like Samantha's protest because Samantha looked good in that dress :eyes: Darryl I just happened to be going over the old threads to see if there was anything to respond to and I came upon this one. You mentioned that you liked "Samantha's Protest" because you thought that Samantha looked good in that dress. Well, even though I never thought of that character or the actress that played her in the same way that you do, I will agree that in that particular dress, she did look pretty hot! Because Julie was the one that I had a crush on, my eyes were on her long blue skirt! Oh baby! In response to another of my threads you said that you loved the look on Katie's face when Samantha said that the handsome boy from the protest was taking her to a movie the next day! Well, I think that by showing no interest in Katie the boy was depicted as someone with taste. What do other viewers think? Also, thoughout the episode, Julie really got into the protest in terms of the singing and everything. I think that because of that, she deserved to have a little fun at Katie's expense! Smartboy 05-15-2010, 04:41 AM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. "Hello Mildred? Oh girl I hate your guts! Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" Because of my recent efforts to stimulate some conversation by starting new threads I (with a little help from other posters) have pushed this thread way down onto the second page of this section! Because I have had no recent success in generating any responses with any of my recent comments, I am now going to see what happens if I bring this one back to the top. Smartboy 05-31-2010, 08:01 PM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. The fact that there have been new posts within the past hour leads me to believe that this is a pretty popular page tonight. Because of this, I am bringing three old threads to the top of the page to see if I can stimulate some conversation. I think that this is a good one to start with being that, now that a lot of people have the whole series on DVD, they might want to share with us what their favorite episode is! Smartboy 09-17-2010, 01:00 AM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. "Hello Mildred? Oh girl I hate your guts! Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" A recent comment on the "Facts of Life" page caused me to think of the incident that this quite pertains to. On that page, someone mentioned an episode from that eighth season called "Another Room". This poster said that this particular episode had some of the best slapstick comedy of that series. Well one way that I would say that the "Facts of Life" and "Gimme a Break!" were very similar is that they were rather sophisticated comedy. They were not at all slapstick in the sense that "Gilligan's Island" or even "Three's Company" were. However, in my opinion, there were occasional cases in which these shows would resort to slapstick for the sake of comic relief to rather serious situations. As some of you might know, the bit-part player who played the busybody on the play phone made three appearances on this series. Incidentially, she also made two on "Facts of Life". The episode that I am writing about now was her second appearance on "Gimme a Break!". At one point, a fellow poster wrote that she thought that, at least on this show, she tended to play slapstick. I tend to agree with her on this. I would be very interestested in what other people think about whether the lady dropping the reciever to chase down her purse qualifies as slapstick. I would say yes. Smartboy 08-13-2011, 01:46 AM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" At this stage in the game, there seems to be a decent amount of traffic going through this page. I even managed to get a few responses to posts that I had made. This being the case, I have decided to raise some of my old favorites to the top and see if I can stimulate some new conversation. Of all of the replies to this thread, the one that I am quoting is the one that I like the best. That is why I am picking this one to quote in my efforts to start some new correspondance. Smartboy 08-18-2011, 09:15 PM I loved the episode where Katie went to the hospital due to her use of an IUD. "Hello Mildred? Oh girl I hate your guts! Yeah and I don't ever want to talk to you again!!!" Once again, I see some traffic going through this page. That being the case, I am now bringing this thread to the top in hopes that some more episode will tell use what their favorite episode is. Let us see what happens! Smartboy 10-10-2011, 11:04 PM "You look tired Debbie Jo, let me get you a chair" He really got into that one. My last attempt to stimulate some conversation about this fine series was a few minutes over a day ago. No success! I believe that, shortly before that, I made three other attempts. All of which were fruitless! I am now thinking that, since most of you probably have a favorite episode, bringing this thread to the top of the page might spark some conversation. Only time will tell! Smartboy 03-13-2012, 12:39 AM "You look tired Debbie Jo, let me get you a chair" He really got into that one. I see that all of my attempts to stimulate some new conversation has pushed this thread back to the second page. Being that I eventually managed to generate a few responses in the recent past, I have decided to bring this thread to the top of the first page. Maybe some new people will be willing to discuss what their favorite episode is. Let us see what happens! Smartboy 04-01-2012, 10:33 PM "You look tired Debbie Jo, let me get you a chair" He really got into that one. I know that I am really just beating a dead horse by even trying to stimulate any conversation here, but I feel unable to stop! Because this thread was popular in its day, I have decided to see what happens if I bring it to the top of the page. Smartboy 05-09-2012, 03:59 PM It's hard to choose just one, but my favorites are, when Katie was part of a band, when Katie shoplifted, when Julie was smoking, when Samantha was dating some guy and he left her on a beach, when Katie was having a problem with a DUI or something like that(it's to prevent children), the one where Julie and her boyfriend got married and the one where Nell and her friend was on Wheel of Fortune. Sorry this was a long list, I liked alot of them. During the last two months, I have been trying every trick in the book to try to stimulate some conversation about this fine series! Nothing seems to work! The fact that this thread has been pushed as far down on the page as it has is mainly because of threads started by me that have managed to generate views but no replies. As one more attempt, I have decided to bring this one to the top of the page. I am hoping that some newcomers might be inspred by the topic and be willing to tell us what episodes they especially liked. Let us see what happens! Smartboy 06-04-2013, 12:12 AM "You look tired Debbie Jo, let me get you a chair" He really got into that one. It seems as if conversation on this page goes in spurts. Every once in a while, someone will think of a topic that one or more other people will think is worthy of a reply. I am wondering if bringing this thread to the top of the first page might inspire some new people to tell us what episode they especially liked and why. Smartboy 08-05-2013, 10:26 PM "You look tired Debbie Jo, let me get you a chair" He really got into that one. It seemed that, for a while, this page had been getting quite a few posts. I have responded to the new threads and brought some of my old favorites to the top of the page in an attempt to stimulate even more conversation. I wonder what will happen when this one goes to the top. Wawwie 08-05-2013, 11:48 PM I'm now watching this series for the first time. I'm still on the second season and so far my favorite episode is when Julie has a crush on the dim witted jock who secretly obsesses for Katie. And when Katie finds out that the jock was just using Julie she kicks him to the curb! The next episode I will watch is called Love Thy Neighbor. I hope it's a good one. The episode that you described is my favorite episode of the whole series! I thought that the site of Julie in her designer boots was too good to be true! Julie was always my favorite. Julie was always my favorite. Julie was smart which made her more attractive in my opinion. I hated that the jock guy was just using her so he could get to meet Katie. Katie was a good sister to tell that creep off when she found out what he was up to. Smartboy 08-06-2013, 06:26 PM Julie was smart which made her more attractive in my opinion. I hated that the jock guy was just using her so he could get to meet Katie. Katie was a good sister to tell that creep off when she found out what he was up to. In the first place, I agree with you that Julie's intelligence did really add to her attractiveness. On top of that, I think that her hair, her makeup and the outfit that she had on in this particular episode made her look like centerfold material! I also agree that the boy in the episode was a real creep for using Julie as a way to meet Katie. Even though I was never especially fond of Katie, I thought that she showed quite a bit of decency when she told the boy off and slammed the door in his face! On top of that, I think that her hair, her makeup and the outfit that she had on in this particular episode made her look like centerfold material! I think Julie was attractive in a wholesome kind of way. To me, Katie was more the centerfold type. I think she was beautiful and sexy. Smartboy 08-07-2013, 07:39 PM I think Julie was attractive in a wholesome kind of way. To me, Katie was more the centerfold type. I think she was beautiful and sexy. Even though Katie might have been pretty enough and sexy enough to be a centerfold, I do not think that she deserved the honor. I thought she was way to full of herself. One time that her egotism and selfishness really backfired on her was in the third-season episode "Samantha's Protest". However, my guess would be that you have not reached that point in the series yet. A short while ago, you commented on the fact that, once upon a time, I posted a thread called "Katie's Crotch". Well, after you see this episode, you will understand the meaning of that title and the thread that goes with it. Katie may have been self absorbed and shallow at times, but I do think she had a deeper side. I also think she might have been Nell's favorite of the three girls. Thank you very much for sharing all of that interesting incite with me! Smartboy 09-28-2013, 12:21 AM Katie may have been self absorbed and shallow at times, but I do think she had a deeper side. It seems as if I managed to maintain some decent correspondence with another poster with this thread for a while. I will now see what will happen if I bring it to the top! |
