I know everyone's probably getting sick of all this Michael Richards stuff, but this is pretty newsworthy, so I thought I'd post it anyway.

Michael Richards will appear on the Rev.
Jesse Jackson's nationally syndicated radio program to discuss his racist rant at a Los Angeles comedy club, the civil rights leader said Saturday.

Richards' participation in the "Keep Hope Alive" program is a chance to reach out and apologize to the black community, Jackson said.

"He is embarrassed," said Jackson, who spoke to Richards by telephone this week after being contacted by the actor's publicist. "I think he wants to recover from the pain he now feels and the pain he's caused others."

While he called Richards' words "hateful," "sick," and "deep-seated," Jackson said his inclusion in the radio show would be a chance for a broader discussion about black actors, writers and directors' "cultural isolation" in the entertainment industry.

"We might turn this minus into a plus," Jackson said.

Jerry Seinfeld's wacky neighbor Kramer on the TV sitcom "Seinfeld," was performing at West Hollywood's Laugh Factory last week when he lashed out at hecklers with a string of racial obscenities and profane language. A cell phone videocamera captured the outburst, and the incident later appeared on TMZ.com.

Richards appeared via satellite on the "Late Show with David Letterman" on Monday, where he said the tirade was fueled by anger at being heckled, not bigotry. He also apologized to the Rev.

Jackson said Richards apologized to him, but his "public meltdown" showed he needs psychiatric help.

As I said, I think for entertainment news, this is pretty newsworthy, that's why I posted it. I wouldn't worry though, it shouldn't be long before something more juicy comes along, and once it does, people will forget all about this. Or atleast we won't be posting about it as much.

You don't have to explain why you're posting anything, especially a story that's dominating the news. If anyone is sick of the story, they should just avoid those threads.

That's true, the title for the thread is pretty clear. You'd think if someone was really that tired of hearing about something, that they'd avoid it at all costs. That's what I do anyway.

The fact that he believes going on the Jesse Jackson show makes up for anything shows just how much he knows about the black community...as if they are ambassadors for the African-American people and speak for them or something...

This is as newsworthy as when Mel Gibson went on his tirade. Mind you, Mel was drunk. The bigger news was the fact that he was on the road and could have killed someone.

Had Richards been proven to be on drugs or alcohol (or both) I would give him some slack for what he did. However, he was CLEAN AND SOBER and that is scary to think that someone in the industry like him would know better, but behaved so irrationally.

Actually, it was in May that he ranted and screamed abt "the jews" as he said. That is more than a few weeks ago. Maybe the guy is not a racist. Maybe he hates EVERYONE! :crazy:

How many times are you going to say he's not a racist in order to convince...I guess yourself? He said it just started coming out of him. How can something come out of you if it is not within you, and those feelings were in him. So what if he said that to those Jewish people a long time ago...and honestly, why is that story just now coming out, maybe if they would have come out with that story earlier he wouldn't be doing standup now. How does that automatically mean he's not racist toward black people? Anyone calling for the hanging and lynching of a black person because they interrupted his stupid and unfunny standup is racist. He could have been funny with it. He could have done something edgy yet funny...but he chose to go crazy and talk about lynching them like in the 'good old days' for interrupting a white person. Now how many people who are not racist are going to find anything remotely funny about that? Not many, because it wasn't meant to be a joke...it was his own true racist (yes, racist) feelings just coming out of him, as he said. He may as well not apologize because I think most people think it's a little too late. If he wants to apologize, he should go on Oprah or like someone said, perform (maybe the same routine?lol) at the Apollo theatre. Other than that, he should just go away.

None of us truly know whether or not this man is racist, because we can't read his heart. Only he and God truly know the answer to that question. As far as him acting this way as a gimmick, I don't think so. For one thing, he has had several incidences of flipping out when the cameras weren't on him. People with gimmicks use them in front of the camera, not in private. From what Iv'e heard, the guy has been just as much an idiot in his private life, as in his public life. Secondly, he himself has admitted that he has a problem, and that it was hate that came out of his mouth. If it was just a gimmick as you say, that's what he would be telling people.

First of all, those men do have problems and did/do need help. Why do you keep bringing up Mel Gibson? Who cares about his father? NEW YORK - Michael Richards said Sunday he did not consider himself a racist, and said he was “shattered” by the comments he made to two young black men during a tirade at a Los Angeles comedy club.

Richards appeared on the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s nationally syndicated radio program, “Keep Hope Alive,” as a part of a series of apologies for the incident. He said he knew his comments hurt the black community, and hoped to meet with the two men.

He told Jackson that he had not used the language before.

“That’s why I’m shattered by it. The way this came through me was like a freight train. After it was over, when I went to look for them, they had gone. And I’ve tried to meet them, to talk to them, to get some healing,” he said.

LOS ANGELES - Two men who say they were insulted by actor-comedian Michael Richards during his racist rant at a comedy club want a personal apology and maybe some money, one of the men and their lawyer said Friday.

Frank McBride and Kyle Doss said they were part of a group of about 20 people who had gathered at West Hollywood’s Laugh Factory to celebrate a friend’s birthday. According to their attorney, Gloria Allred, they were ordering drinks when Richards berated them for interrupting his act.

When one of their group replied that he wasn’t funny, Richards launched into a string of obscenities and repeatedly used the n-word. A video cell phone captured the outburst.

Richards, who played Jerry Seinfeld’s wacky neighbor Kramer on the TV sitcom “Seinfeld,” made a nationally televised apology on the “Late Show with David Letterman” earlier this week. He has since apologized to the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, both civil rights leaders.

But Doss, 26, said Friday he wanted a “face-to-face apology.”

“To have him do what he did to me ... I can’t even explain it,” Doss said. “I was humiliated, even scared at one point.”


Richards’ publicist said his client wants to apologize to both men, who are black, but hasn’t been able to locate them.

Allred, speaking by phone from Colorado, said Richards should meet McBride and Doss in front of a retired judge to “acknowledge his behavior and to apologize to them” and allow the judge to decide on monetary compensation.

“It’s not enough to say ‘I’m sorry’ on ’David Letterman,”’ she said.

‘Our clients were vulnerable’
She did not mention a specific figure, but pitched the idea as a way for the comic to avoid a lawsuit.

“Our clients were vulnerable,” Allred said. “He went after them. He singled them out and he taunted them, and he did it in a closed room where they were captive.”

The video of Richards’ outburst shows several people getting up and walking out as he shouts at the audience.

Richards’ publicist said the comic wasn’t considering any demand for payment. “He’s not dealing with that,” Howard Rubenstein said. “He wants to apologize to them directly and then see what happens.”

What is a race pimp? Anyway, why didn't he appear on the Today show to apologize face to face to the men? The fact that he believes going on the Jesse Jackson show makes up for anything shows just how much he knows about the black community...as if they are ambassadors for the African-American people and speak for them or something...


That drives me crazy. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al do not speak for me. I wish people would stop running to them for everything. Why won't Richards just apology to the guys face to face and be done with it? It just seems like he's running around instead of just meeting the guys face-to-face, of with mediators.
