then sit right back my cousin and feast yer eyes on thsi one

it was an epic journey to get them all

and epic project to have them redone with joker class menus

and its an epic , and classic tv show

if charlie heston can have the 10 commandments as an epic

then this is a mega epic, since charlie only took 3 hours to get the 15, dammit i dropped them, 10 commandments

and this is 271 hours

Hey Loren, What does that mean? When you say Premium List....what exactly does that mean?

Do others here have premium list items? please elaborate, if you can..thanks!

Hey Loren, What does that mean? When you say Premium List....what exactly does that mean?

Do others here have premium list items? please elaborate, if you can..thanks!

for those who dont understand the principal, ill explain the concept

of course not all tv dvds are equal

if they were all equal, then

then ill make a nice list of what i want and ill send retail crap that i bought at best buy last night

or even worse, some tired old set of the smurfs, thats been around for ever and everyone who wants it, has it

most people that have these better sets, dont even list them on their trade

some folks, have them listed on their trade list, and then for some reason, note-- this set isnt for trade

i approach the issue from a unique angle, i make the best of the best avaible to anyone, but i need to get an item of equal rarity, value, how ever you choose to phrase it, in return

i have aprox 1 % of my entire holdings on my premium list

heres an example of why i add an item to the premium list

dr kildare

i have the same eps on 85 discs

aprox 170 total eps

and its on my normal list

but then, i had them redone, at great expense, onto 33 discs, with nice menus, and in original order

the 33 disc run goes on the premium list

why would anyone ever redo a set, put all that work into it,and then reduce the trade value, by over 70%

down from 85 disc to end up at 33

im surely not going to go through all that work, and expense to end up with far less

so thats why i see the premium list items as having much more value

why is this premium list a topic for debate

well some people who dont have any prime sets, or dont go through the work and expense of redoing a huge set into a better and smaller set, want to run their pie hole about it, and cry the blues

since they want the prime stuff while wanting to offer up their lame and tired stuff

the moral of the story is, do some work, go find some good stuff,

like in real life, those who sit and whine, dont get much, thsoe who hustle and do the leg work, come out pretty well

He has it, you don't, it's premium.

Just got in 70 eps of Wild Bill Hickcock, 20 eps of Dick Powell theater, 75 shows from Wonderful World of Disney, 20 eps of Men from Shiloh but I know not to say anything because my stuff will never be premium. 19 dvds of the Jack Benny show etc. but someday I'm hoping to get something premium, till then I will accept whatever tidbits come my way.

Anyone want to send me a tidbit?

What period are those "75 shows from Wonderful World of Disney"? Are these from the 1950's - 70's period?
I'd like to get some old Wonderful World Of Disney

hardly prime

also the men from shiloh

also hardly prime

and jack benny is on the way to me, and will go on the normal list

hardly prime

for those who dont understand the principal, ill explain the concept

Thanks, I think I get it now, only questions arise...

1. What others value a set or show to be etc.. may not be of value to the other...true? i.e. You have Dr. Kildare, I don't care for it, so it's of no value to me, yet someone else might want it, thus, it's of value to them...then are you saying you're only source to get it from?

2. If say, your Perry Mason set is already on 4 other Traders list of shows, for trade ( and/or on sale online somewhere) then that would make your Perry Mason set no longer Premium item, true? since it's already alvailable through other traders, exactly like your current set... or (2) is being sold online somewhere, thus, your set is waiting for takers, while the exact duplicate set is making their rounds already all over the country....cutting out the middle-man, you?

3. I like Wonder Woman, i do not have it. You probably do, it's crap to you, to me it's not, but I know I can get it anywhere from anyone, etc..thus it is not Premium... I get that. But if one, puts a value on a Set and gets no takers or interest, the set is moot, it's not moving and the only value the set has to anyone, would be yourself, since no one is asking for it, as it is not making the rounds on trade lists... True?

4. Thanks for your reply

5. Joker, Harvey, I like Wonderful World of Disney also...if this is the show that aired on Sunday's or weekends during the 60' 70's etc.???? that sounds very nice...Disney rules! To me, Disney is Premium, since no one has it, yet most everyone wants...

you have 100% missed the point

:nonono: :nonono: :nonono: No Sir, let me correct you

I said, "If".... the point was, if, and if, someone gets YOUR new Perry Mason set...it's theirs, thus it would make the rounds, trading community, online sales, etc...eventually land in Europe and across the country, thus rendering YOUR Perry mason set, no longer a Premium item, when folks, could then go to another trader who, to them, do not see it as a Premium List item, rather, they see it as another tv show, give me the same # of DVDs in trade, etc.. and so on...

Thus, if YOUR Perry Mason show was now in the hands of 4-6 traders already, making their rounds, you would agree then YOUR Perry Mason set is no longer Premium, to you or to anyone, since it is making the rounds...that was the point. You wold not trade it for other common shows, while others would....Once you let it go, a copy set, your set is no longer Premium, because then others will get it, surely get it from the new acquired sources...making your set moot, with no takers... that was all...if you never shared it, it's Premium...once its out, however nice it is, which it probably is, 14 other traders would soon have your set within a week, rendering YOUR set moot...that was all Loren You have good stuff Loren, but all your shows on your Premium List I see on several traders lists already already...for everyday common trades..nothing premium about those shows you have or list.....unless, unless you never let them go...then you have something there...

thanks loren

Let's take it one more step. If I say " my set is premium" and you have nothing to trade me that's premium", I can then say "here is what I will charge you for the set", or you can give me thee to one for my set, because mine is premium? Take my word, the gambit works. You decide what you have is premium and decide if the other party's is premium. Of course it never is. Traders who just trade have a attitude of, I have something you want, and you have something I want, lets trade. That's what trading is all about. Sellers in some instances take a different approach. The word premium raises the price.

the premium list is how i choose to protect my prime set

the joker has his differnt method to protect his hard work

we have bumped heads over that very issue

other members on this site, have other methods to protect their best items

if --as you say 4-5 others get the set from me

then i will have recouped some nice items in the process

a lot of nice stuff to be sure

all of my premium list items eventualy are removed from the prelium list

and are freely circulated on the normal list, with the other 99% of my holdings

heres a little hint

wait a couple months and whatever will become part of the normal list

wouldnt a better question be, why do youall feel the need to protect these things

well if i didnt , then certain folks would have them all over iofer that very same day, thus makeing the items of no use

seeing as how almost every one here with any amount of discs, is an ioffer seller, or a high priced private seller, or a direct supporter of a seller

Everyone here has great stuff...but the premium list thrrough me for a loop... I thoguth it meant no one has it and it was special, etc... it's not though... but i figured it out... if you have Disney all episodes, and no one has it, it's Premium...if you're making sets left and right, there's nothing premium about it... that's all you and I like Disney.. trader X may not care for disney, and does not see anything premium about disney  so it's value is only to the creator, holder or wanted... thanks joker...

Lou, you and I got some things in common. Lemme buy you a drink.

Funny thing about premier, rare, etc.
Everyone views such things differnetly.
Take collect- lets say shot glasses- they put them on display- never use em'

THey look nice, but just decor. A funny story here and there, where you got it-a chuckle. Thats it.

You got your stamp collectors or rare books, gott have gloves on just to look at them, take it out only on special occasions but its special because you "know its there right?"

Then you got your old film collectors of sorts, get a print and set up a viewing date, and friends, family gather round and they feast on this rare items.
They enjoy it, respect it, collect it, but its shared.

Not all hobbiest look at things the same, so don't give up on this site over ones views.

The fact is, i come from the third perspective, I recently flooded- and at the SAME time I flooded a rare 80's sitcome started airing here.
Oh I made sure to get it, just ask Lamont or Jie3, with all respect to the devestation of the flood, I still wanted the show.
SO what did I do with a such a rare item?
I made 3 sets, set up 3 trades, and I admit, I got 5 discs instead of 4 for them on a trade cuz what i wanted was 6 discs and the person said hey, i don't mind- yours is pretty rare-
And the condition upon trading it, was make sure you trade this- so others can enjoy it.

Thats my view- if its rare, i like the glee and joy of being the first one to bring the set to the table
To bring back the memory, the jokes, the character- that is how i ENJOY my hobby.

But to me the value IS the enjoyment
Others the value is what they can get for it.

You will find this in all walks of life, in all hobbies, in all areas of collecting.

Worth and value set the stage.

but worth and value breed resentment, hostility , and frustration as well.

So this particular arguement is an old one, with this particular user.

And the fact is if EVERYONE that had a rare item, only traded it for a rare item, we wouldn't get much trading done. Thats the hangup.
Rare is in the eye of the beholder-
This discussion took place over Perry Mason- I have Perry mason complete. (shrug)
i don't consider it rare, becuase they have been airing it here 4x a day for about 5 years.
Webster, isn't rare to me, they air it here every day. Diffrent' strokes, Gimmie a break- all part of the line up.
But its rare to Konfusion who really wants Webster and Lamont-
And you know, its funny because by Lamont they are airing the Hogan family- thats rare to me, haven't seen that in awhile

So he can have Webster for Hogan family- not becuase they are special or rare, just becuase we each don't have the other.
And thankfully more people look at things that way, which is why this community flourishes.

My 5 cents, with tax.

kim theres a huge difference in what we are refering to

you and your buddy are both getting something thats great

but

what if they wanted the great thing, and offered you some reatil, or some tired set thats been around, or in my case

things i turned down a year ago due to poor quality, from another user

then both folks arent getting soemthing they seek

thus, it would suck

in a perfect world, everyone would ahve nice items

everyone would spend the time or money to ahve their sets redone, with great menus and in order, and in a comapct, easily tradeable disc count

but they dont

many people are far too lazy to do the work

and guess whos the ones that are crying the blues every time??

the same no menu making lazy people

how many times have we seen a post go like this

i want ____ and _____

and have crap for trade

then a couple days later

why will no one trade with me??

then

you people are anti new member

not really

drop a new member on here with soem fresh items, thats willing toi establish themselves and stand back

its the slackers that sit back and wait for something nice to drop into their laps

and hows that going lately

Yes but people starting out trading, or don't have the time and money you invest, or if they have something rare to them that YOU don't think is rare- Just can't get the items.

That breeds resentment was my point.

Remember when I wanted Cagney and Lacey from you

And you wanted New Outer Limits? To me that ws rare. It was 9 discs short of the same disc count but you said Cagney was rare.
So even though I just made a set, even though no one else at the time had it
you didn't consider it rare.

Tht was your opinion, but thats my point exactly

He who decides what is rare, will find opposition.

I have had people offer me 2 for one discs for new outer limits, still - becuase they think its rare-

Its all in the eye of the beholder.

Just because you think something is rare, doesn't mean someone else does- so they may argue saying they dont' NEED something premium to get it
While you may feel their list isn't rare, and they put just as much time and money into make the set.
Its all a matter of speculation and opinion.
What value you put on something, rarely meets anothers agreement.

there in lies my best point

i do the work to get around

i dont just hang here and hope something turns up

like the consumate slackers do

i knew where there was a complete outer limits set

and i was offered another one on more discs previous to your attempt

i passed on it, since i didnt want to cut it down to a managable size

yes to you it was a long process and hard to do all that work

to me it wasnt hard to find

i knew at least two others

and when yours wasnt quite complete

i was owed eps by one source and filled it in a couple minutes

so a persons perception of rare, isnt a factual thing without a large enough sample of info

i see quite a number of have and want lists

it comes with reading and paying attention to lists

rather than watching survivor

cagney and lacy was a monster hit for me

a mega monster in fact

i still move it, since my set doesnt have the audio sync problems that the other set thats circulating has--

and oh ya, my cagney and lacy was actualy complete, unlike the other one which wasnt completed as per advertised

like lamont said earlier

theres lots of huge collections out there

that aerent on this site

this is a small pond, a nice pond, but limited

thats why persceptions of rare and not, are scewed at times

Yes, how some folks think their lists are better than others here, or refuse to trade with others, or thinking folks are salivating over their HAVE lists, when most people's lists are mostly the same it seems...

I see lots of good lists here, but I could never, say this list is better than this other list, or insult someone else for having this or that, and/or not sharing this or that, and/or refusing to share this or that... I do enjoy reading here, and seeing and reading bickering over, this list or that person's list is ridiculous.

Especially if someone asks about a set or show, and a person declines a trade, that is fine..but to insult and say, your lists stinks, you could never get what I have, and I would never trade it for your stuff, etc..is quite petty and rude..which leads to being singled out as loserville

Am just quietly reading here, figuring things out for myself, staying behind the scenes...watching and reading...seeing "Who is Who" around here, who is scamming, who lies, who is reptuable, who is friendly, who is trickery, who is conniving, etc...

Keep this in mind. While others sell, they do so as a supplement to their regular earnings. If they don't sell, obviously no extra income. So he has a perfect right to be more greedy, more selfish then the next and if he sends you a bad disk and you ask to have it replaced, to charge you or say'don't bother me" and block your email. Okay I planned on keeping out of this but... Come on man! Your high and mighty anti-Ioffer stance is really getting old. You are 100% correct that you do not sell on Ioffer and that there are others here who do. What you seem to neglect to inform people (at least in this thread) is that you did sell on Ioffer and would still be doing so if you could (100% not your fault I know it was a vindictive trader). Please get off the "I am not an Ioffer seller" soapbox because you know you would prefer to still be there.

Loren, have you ever considered the merits of practicing what you preach and putting in some leg work yourself to come up with something really premium, like Hot L Baltimore, or San Pedro Beach Bums, or New People, or, you know, something RARE, before patting yourself on the back?

That would be something.

But taking one of the most oft-syndicated tv shows of all time, a show that tons of traders have had for years and years before you ever got into this hobby, or should I say business, and calling it premium just because you authored it with nice menus? Big deal, one hardly worth all the self-praise you've heaped on yourself in this thread.

For your information, Loren, not every big trader here sells on ebay, ioffer etc - I certainly do not, never have and never will. However, it does tick me off to see a set I have authored after spending years tracking it down from various sources being offered for sale at extortionate prices. Broken Arrow was all my own work and for anyone else who needs a set, I'll trade you for it and I do not have a premium list. I am also in the process of reauthoring a complete set of the extremely rare Klondike series, just waiting on one episode to complete. That will also be available to anyone on sitcoms who wants it. From my point of view Premium listing is against the spirit of trading and I for one won't deal with it.
