Rating quality is always hard because there is no Standard that everyone agrees on... One person might call a dvd a 7 of 10, someone else might call it an 8... it all depends on what quality they are used to and how much the wanted to see the show....

so in order not to offend/ disappoint/ tick off people, I try to err on the side of caution. I am still somewhat new in trading (compared to some who have been at it for 10 or 20 years) so I am having to learn some new stuff every day!!

In my advanced years I know of only one Lamont. He was a creation of Walter Gibson,who wrote 325 novels of him, was on radio for over 20 years, who while in the Orient learned the mystic power to cloud men's minds so they could not see him, and the only one who knew his secret identity was his constant companion, the lovely Margo Lane. His catch line at the end of each show was "the weed of crime bears bitter fruit, crime does not pay, the shadow knows and then give his famous laugh. That was Lamont Cranston in his duel role as the shadow. I now know two Lamont's. This one is better. Made a trade on monday for 19 disks, said I would ship on wednesday he said okay. Next thing I knew was I received a email tuesday with a tracking number that he mailed. They came today, looked at a few dvds and they appear to be superb quality. His went out wednesday morning and I hope he is satisfied. Lamont is all what's good about trading. I read some negative comments previously about Lamont but I think these folks were drinking to much prune juice.

Did you actually watch what he sent you? Because Most of the stuff I received from him is unwatchable. Not his fault though but he doesn't watch what he receives so he is unaware of what problems exist on the DVD and may just burn copies of a set that has problems that he didn't create of course. But I was just surprised because I heard so many good things about him and when I received the DVD's they were not tradable enough for me to send to another trader. This is why DVD traders should do smaller trades so they can watch what they receive or if they are not a fan of the show only watch it when someone requests the show. So he i not a bad trader because he sends what he promises but the quality is just bad. So that's why I was wondering have you watched the actual show or are you just saying the quality is good because the DVD's arrived.

But you are the person who stated you don;t have time to watch the shows you get in so how would you know if the Quality is Satisfactory? Or do u just put the DVD in and press play and if the Picture looks good u say nice quality and put the DVD's on your shelf?

That's what you told me a couple of months ago

Everything I get, I watch - that is why I trade for it :)

But, not only that- I don't always agree with other people's opinions-
Hence, before I trade it, or add it I check it.

In this case, it was time consuming.
I got welcome back kotter, and bosom buddies complete.

I was overly eager, to say the least so they got popped in the minute I got them

All of them, were 8.5-10 just as he described. And i have watched 4 discs of each about, all the way through-and the quality kept up.


I know in the case of larger traders- they get things in SO fast they can't always check it.
or check ONE disc of 15, or even one episode of 50.

I don't know the history on Robs collection, if he has ever done this. This is my first trade with him.

I set up a second trade for Mrs Columbo, and tuckers witch, new odd couple- I am still waiting for them, but they will get checked as well


In my trades, I set up smaller onces, until I can feel comfy enlough to do larger- but I admit, I had preknowledge of where this set originalted, and felt a lot more comfortable.
One of the bonus's to being a mdoerator I supposed.

But in any trade, that is one thing I highly suggest is asking if they chekced quality, and checked episode info themsevles.
Taking things for granted will land you in hot water sometimes.

I try my best to check them out, I randomly watch complete eps to be sure they are good, i run them through a verifier process, i run them through the computer to check for errors, i check them against episode guides now to be sure they are complete

and for retrotvs trade, I DID WATCH COMPLETE DISCS of some of them to check, THEY PLAYED PERFECT FOR ME, he had freezing issues on his dvd player that WERE NOT ON MY player, so again, I honestly believe its a compatiblity issue with his player and one of my burners or dupers

i mean, if a disc is a bad disc, it will freeze up or wont load on every player u test it on, if a disc plays perfect on 1 player and wont even load on another player, then its a compatibility issue with that player-- -doesnt mean the player is bad, just that it doesnet like discs burnt with a certain duper or program

anyhow, too much stress

I agree it' impossible to watch every ep of an entire series which is why DVD traders shouldn't trade for complete series. Too Big of a Trade

for instance I have 3 differnet odd couple sets, 3 different batman sets, 2 different donna reed sets, and i have not watched each and every ep of each

well, ok what if i watch all 60 hours to make sure the set is good? then I burn off 5 sets for trade.... AM I THEN SUPPOSED TO WATCH all 5 sets? all the way through, anyoher 300 hours??? b/c there could be a bad spot or a glitch on 1 of those discs?

you can see, that it becomes impossible... and if we did that NOTHING would ever get traded because most of us dont have all day to sit and watch every single disc AND EVERY COPY of that same disc. dvd traders that are good traders do the best they can, they watch as much as they can to check and they run the discs through verificiation processes to check to be sure, they check for disc errors, they spot check, but it is completely unrealistic to expect every person to watch EVERY disc they have and EVERY Disc that they send out.... even the shows that I do watch (FOR EXAMPLE I love JUNGLE JIM the tv show and i watched every ep when i got it----- but now if i make sets for 5 others who want the show, AM I EXPECTED TO REWATCH THE ENTIRE SERIES 5 more times before I send it out/?????

if that were to happen noone would be a trader anymore, and none of these shows would be traded......

You don't have to defend yourself to those that have traded with you or those that have been DVD trading long enough to realize that freezing usually is the result of an incompatiblity issue. You've explained yourself well enough and your tract record speaks for itself.

I think quality does have a basis of opinion.
But, yes I will vouch for this particualr set (welcome back kotter)

Bosom buddies, again- I really liekd the quality.

I copied 5 of them for my friend for the holidays, all copied fine.
And I have watched welcome back kotter on 2 different dvd player (my moms this week) and home.

So far, so good- no, I haven't watched all 33 discs through. A disc might jump or catch, but my contact with email on Lamont has been good and If eel confident, should a problem arise, he will tend to it.

When trading, we do take a risk. No matter how many questions are asked up front, we take the risk of others work, their opinion.
Our machines etc.
You can avoid this partially by asking questions.
You can trade a few discs at a time and feel your way through it, and comapre notes.
But when/if a problem arises, I think all traders shoudl be given the chance privately to discuss it and make ammends.
And I am not sure if that was done this time.

RetroTv, you could have emailed me privately to ask about quality, but you chose to do it publically.
which is your right, but even as peopel started to defend Lamont (in example Agent13) you seemed to be defensive to HER as far as her quality checks.

You seem unhappy with the trade, and the only thing I can suggest is you contact Lamont privately, and try to work things out.
It seems the question about quality has been answered, and I would hate for this to be taken out of context, or even taken personally by anyone.

As far as the opinion, to not trade for more than you can watch.

Well, that is hard to do, since a trade option can come up BEFORE you have had the chance to watch it.
If you are saying a trader should never trade, unless they have watched every show, every hour- that is your opinion.
But what of this case, where I have watched so far 11 discs of 15 of bosom buddies and mine work fine- and let's say another trader, has a problem with number 5 and 8?
That point would be null.
What if My opinion is the show is super rare to me, and super old. Or I am used to antella tv, not cable (which is true)
And my opinion is its a 8.5 and someone else used to dish tv believes it is a 6?

These are factors that change trader to trader, that even watching all of them, would moot that issue.

Everyone has different wants desires of trades. The only thing I can suggest, is you specifiy to your future trades you do not wish to trade anything they have not watched personally to the fullest extent.

Everyone has their own opinion to what makes a trade go well- and everyone has different standards. Yours seem higher than mine, and you have that right.
If you asked ahead of time if lamont checked the discs thoroughly and he hadn't and you believe him to be dishonest then by all means address that with him.
But, for many of us, we get a show to watc it slowly and enjoy it. And if the opportunity to trade it, before we have completed it, comes up - we trade giving our best opinion of the quality thus far.
And for most, that is good enough-

My advice is always the same-
Make your guidelines for setting up a trade.
What is important to you-
Quality/brand/hours/speed/delivery/commericals
Ask as many questions as you can.
Address all complaints to the trader if applicable and allow time to remedy the situation.
And once the trade is done, share your feedback. Politely, and respectfully when possible.

I hope this can be resolved, it seems to me Lamont is willing to address all these issues and that is something that shouldn't be overlooked.

Just had a wonderful trade with Lamont. Was very patient with me while I found time to transfer a series to DVD. He was great and so were the items I got from him.

Lamont gave me such a better deal than what I sent him. I sent him one disk of not so rare stuff and he sent me many disks of really rare stuff. Lamont was always there answering my questions and the quality on everything was unbelievable. Lamont is certainly one of the best traders I have traded with. There is nothing he did wrong or anything I could say he could do better. Excellent all the way. Thanks again Rob. :)

they look like they were the uncut 24 minute versions digitally recorded from canadian satellite channel (the comedy network) which does'nt edit shows to make more room for commercials like the american satellite channel do(NITE-AT-NITE,TV-LAND,USA,TBS,FX,TNT and alot of others)

I don;t think the title needs to be changed because when most people see the title they will want to know what you lied about and then will see it's a joke.
