View Full Version : I never knew this was something a Boss would ask a Secretary/Admin Assitant to do TVFactFan 09-25-2006, 10:06 AM Go get him Breakfast from Dunkin Donuts-LOL I'm amazed when i witnessed him asking a secretary-"can you do me a favor, can you go get me a sauagae and egg sanwich and coffee" Anyone surprised by this? Brian Damage 09-25-2006, 11:24 AM Not at all, if you are an assistant, you can expect crap like that. BensonFan 09-25-2006, 01:04 PM I work in an office and I don't see a lot of that. Sounds like a boss that's taking way too much advantage. Karen* 09-25-2006, 02:51 PM I thought that only happens in the movies. Sharop 09-25-2006, 02:54 PM I'm not surprised by it - in Year 10 of school in Britain, kids have to do two weeks of "work experience", where they're given work placements and work alongside adults and get a feeling of what to expect when the time comes to go out and get a job of their own. For my work experience, I was a secretarial assistant at an infant school (basically, children aged 5-7.) One of my jobs was to make drinks for the other members of staff. TVFactFan 09-25-2006, 02:59 PM I too think that's taking it too far to ask someone to get your breakfast Bobby F. 09-25-2006, 04:25 PM Not strange at all. I've had to do it for bosses and I've had people do it for me. It's no big deal. Most of the time I would buy that person whatever they wanted for breakfast. TJL 09-25-2006, 04:27 PM Aren't interns suposed to get breakfast? ;) TVFactFan 09-25-2006, 05:44 PM Aren't interns suposed to get breakfast? ;) That's what I thought-lol BensonFan 09-25-2006, 06:30 PM I thought that only happens in the movies. Or "Three's Company". Brieannas21 09-25-2006, 06:30 PM it doesn't surprise me at all. dawsongirl 09-25-2006, 11:00 PM Not surprised. Some bosses treat their staff like slaves. Though I'd rather go get breakfast or run dumb errands than sit in the office all day! So it could have its advantages. Bobby F. 09-26-2006, 10:46 AM Not surprised. Some bosses treat their staff like slaves. Boy how right you are. I can't believe all of the staffs that I've seen that were beaten with whips and chains or made to sit in the back of the office or made to drink out of the fountain that is labeled "staff only". MsOrange 09-26-2006, 12:17 PM Yea, i've seen it done before. It sucks. Our GM calls his assistant frequently during hte middle of night for stupid stuff, like one time she said he called her at 4:00am in the morning and reminded her to "pick up coffee on her way in". She rants to us about it. MsOrange 09-26-2006, 12:31 PM Though I'd rather go get breakfast or run dumb errands than sit in the office all day! So it could have its advantages. Me too... as long as I got a mileage check, or drove a company car! cmcb06 09-26-2006, 12:31 PM Yes at the place where i work, i'm secretary to the owner. And i am constantly getting him lunch, etc. But I always get reimbursed for it so i see no big deal. It's one of your many duties when your a secretary, lighten the load of the boss. dawsongirl 09-26-2006, 08:29 PM Boy how right you are. I can't believe all of the staffs that I've seen that were beaten with whips and chains or made to sit in the back of the office or made to drink out of the fountain that is labeled "staff only". Um, have you worked everywhere? Yeah...didn't think so. And seriously, who would take "slaves" to mean some 1800s definition? to you too. Courtnee 09-26-2006, 08:34 PM Um, have you worked everywhere? Yeah...didn't think so. And seriously, who would take "slaves" to mean some 1800s definition? to you too. Bobby F. 09-26-2006, 09:40 PM Um, have you worked everywhere? Yeah...didn't think so. And seriously, who would take "slaves" to mean some 1800s definition? to you too. Uh...maybe you might need to choose your words more carefully. It's no different than saying the Holocaust never exsisted. Referencing being treated like slaves to actually working is ignorant on your part. Keep trying though. Janice 09-26-2006, 10:44 PM I was an assistant years ago, and I would get my boss breakfast. There was a Dunkin Donuts in the lobby. I still remember her order. Medium coffee, cream w/one sugar...and a toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese. I liked getting out of the office. She always wanted to buy my breakfast too, but I never let her. Occasionally, she'd make the run. dawsongirl 09-27-2006, 08:36 PM Uh...maybe you might need to choose your words more carefully. It's no different than saying the Holocaust never exsisted. Referencing being treated like slaves to actually working is ignorant on your part. Keep trying though. Your logic makes my head hurt, it's that bad. But whatever you want to think... Keep trying though. No no no....taking words and applying your own definition to them is ignorant on your part. KissMyGrits 09-27-2006, 08:51 PM I was a customer service rep for a electronics retailer. One of my jobs was getting coffee for the managers at Dunkin Donuts. I didn't mind. Gave me a chance to get out of the office. |
