Dang, I was planning on going before work today, I start at 2:30 but they close at 2. They are closed Sundays, they don't open till 9 on the weekdays and they close at 6. Those hours stink. I drive by a CPU (It is a little post office where they take the mail there but bring it to the bigger post office) every day, but I can't go before school because they are closed and I usualy work after school. When I am not working I go after school, but I don't want to leave the packages in my car and have them get overheated so I bring them in my locker-lol Last monday I had 6 or 7 packages between my books. I wish they were open later and earlier or on Sundays. Weekends is the best time for me, but they are barily open on Saturday. Who wishes they had better hours?

The post office here recently changed their times and they now close at 8:00 PM on weekdays and 5:00 PM on Saturday. They used to close at 5 on weekdays and 2 on weekends. By the way why is it that all postal workers look so depressed and suicidal. They must really hate their jobs-- and I'm sure the longer hours aren't helping any. And its always the same 2 or 3 workers I run into. They probably groan everytime I walk in, thinking "oh great, its the guy who comes with 5 or 6 packages at a time."

How do those do it yourself machines work exactly? I've always seen them, but never bothered to try them, out of fear that I'd end up messing something up, and the package would never arrive at its destination.
But the main lines at the post office can be really long at times, so it would be nice to be able to use those. Are they reliable?

Spare a thought for us over here. Mon-Fri 9am-5.30pm, Sat 10am-12pm, Sun - Closed.

Also, the only chance my packages getting overheated in my car is if I set it on fire - lol. Even then the rain and cold would probably put it out before any damage was done.

Cheers,

J

I think you misunderstood me, it probably would be bad to leave them out in the sun. I just meant that the weather is so bad over here (Scotland) that it wouldn't matter if you left packages in the car, there's no sun to damage them.

Ok, I got it. I read somewhere that you get more rain in one week than we do in a whole season-lol

That sounds like the weather here in Oregon! I WISH something could get overheated in the car, it would be nice for it to be that warm....

That doesn't surprise me. Although, I don't really mind the rain, it's the cold I can't stand. It's strange because we're right next door to England, and they can have really good summers, but we're lucky to gat a month's worth of hot weather during the summer season (although we do have the occasional heatwave).

Our Winters here in Virginia really aren't bad. We might get one good snow storm a year, but it really only lasts for a day or two and it is gone really fast. Summers are bad here because of the humidty. This Summer was a lot hotter than past ones. It really doesn't get that cold here during the day in the Summer. It rarily goes below freezing during the day time in the Winter. I would say High 40's is average.

Your Heat Wave is probbably our low-lol

, Yeah, I visited Florida recently on vacation, it rained quite a lot, but even then the heat was fantastic.

On the plus side, we don't get extreme weather over here, were not really in danger of tornadows, earthquakes, etc...

I do 95% of my mail via the after hours computerized post office machines, they are the most convenient and greatest thing invented in a long, long time.

Its simple, just place your package on the weight scale and it weighs the package for you, type in your zip code destination, prices come up as to what kind of shipping you want, then you choose it and pay with either a credit or debit card. Very simple. I havent figured out how to use it with delivery confirmation and not sure how to send international mail that way, other than that no complaints from me!!

After you chose what method of shipping, it asks if you want to add any additional services. That is where the dc choice is. It's so simple. Unfortunatly, you can't send anything media mail or internationally through those machines.

I avoid the PO as much as possible. I keep boxes & envelopes & packing material (those little air bags, bubble wrap and peanuts) on hand. And I have an accurate scale and keep several denominations of stamps on hand (that I order via mail for free from the USPS.)

If I ship via priority mail, I use Click N Ship to buy the postage & print the label online.

Then, anything that will fit in my mailbox is picked up by my postman, when he delivers the mail. If it won't fit in the mailbox, I take it to the local UPS Store, which is also a USPS outlet and opens at 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. (I think) and is open on Sundays too. And since my package is all ready to go, including postage, I just drop it off & don't have to wait in line. Of course, if I drop it off on Sunday, it's not shipped until Monday, but at least I don't have to drop it off on Monday, if it's not convenient.
