There were no other kids at all and he just seemed to be in the way all the time. They could have just had Ann and Jeffery married with no kids like the Ropers. What did this show need David for?-lol

View Full Version : Why was David on this show??? TVFactFan 09-18-2006, 11:52 AM There were no other kids at all and he just seemed to be in the way all the time. They could have just had Ann and Jeffery married with no kids like the Ropers. What did this show need David for?-lol gilligan fanatic 09-18-2006, 01:41 PM On George and Mildred he had a bigger role. Some of the plots even revolved around him. Stanley seemed to have him on his side sometimes, I liked that. oracle19 09-18-2006, 02:30 PM I thought the episode where Stanley gave him beer was pretty funny. TVFactFan 09-18-2006, 05:43 PM To me he was in the way-lol Brian Damage 09-18-2006, 07:08 PM I agree with you Solomon. He was in the way. I guess the producers felt that the show needed a cute factor. Mrs. Periwinkle 09-18-2006, 09:51 PM He was kind of in the way, but I liked him--possibly more than the show itself! TVFactFan 09-18-2006, 10:03 PM He was kind of in the way, but I liked him--possibly more than the show itself! He reminded me of Sam from Different Strokes MikeLutton 09-18-2006, 11:20 PM i think it was him TV_on_the_Porch 11-27-2006, 09:32 PM ...But you are wrong. Evan Cohen played David on The Ropers and is almost two years older than Danny Cooksey, who played Sam on Diff'rent Strokes. When The Ropers premeired Danny was three. TVFactFan 11-27-2006, 09:39 PM ...But you are wrong. Evan Cohen played David on The Ropers and is almost two years older than Danny Cooksey, who played Sam on Diff'rent Strokes. When The Ropers premeired Danny was three. He wasn't saying that the guy who played David was SAM from Different Strokes, he was saying that her reminded him of Sam. TV_on_the_Porch 11-27-2006, 11:13 PM You are beyond belief. He reminded me of Sam from Different Strokes...is what you said, remember? i think it was him...is what MikeL said. That's a pretty straightforward and unambiguous statement about what MikeL thinks in reply to your statement. Look at it again: Research Analyzer (or w/e): He reminded me of Sam from Different Strokes MikeL: i think it was him It would have been abundantly easy to simply say "me too," if that's what he meant, but he didn't...because it isn't. dav4463 10-07-2008, 03:20 AM He was the kid with the obligatory bowl haircut that seemed to be in style on all sitcoms at the time. Nicholas on Eight is Enough That kid on Different Strokes The one on Gimme a Break The little brother on Family Ties....etc. ....etc.... I could've done without all of them!....Especially the original bowl head and worst of them all......OLIVER ON THE BRADY BUNCH! Yeah but those other shows you mentioned were family sitcoms the Ropers wasn't which was ODD that he was on the show LuLu Rogers 10-27-2008, 02:24 PM I liked what David added to the show. He was close to Stanley and he was good at making his father look stupid, I thought he was funny. Chocolate Moose 10-27-2008, 03:28 PM probbly they wanted to be pc and appeal to kids and families. i hate that !!! ThomasE 12-27-2008, 02:37 AM I wish that he would have done more as well but I too believe he was kept around because the English version "George and Mildred" did have the son as well. FELLNORM 04-09-2010, 08:25 AM There were no other kids at all and he just seemed to be in the way all the time. They could have just had Ann and Jeffery married with no kids like the Ropers. What did this show need David for?-lol I never thought he was "in the way", he was cute and had some pretty funny little comments or questions to contribute to the show. Brian Damage 03-26-2012, 10:31 PM I think ultimately he was ONE of the reasons the show failed. TVFactFan 03-26-2012, 10:39 PM I think ultimately he was ONE of the reasons the show failed. Yup, he was a kid on a ADULT SHOW which made no sense. Mr. Television 03-26-2012, 10:42 PM I think ultimately he was ONE of the reasons the show failed. He probably was part of it but I think the main reason was that the show moved to Saturday nights opposite CHIPS. I was one of the biggest TC fans at that time and I didn't even follow The Ropers to Saturday nights. -STEFFY- 03-26-2012, 11:28 PM He reminded me of Sam from Different Strokes I couldn't stand that annoying little twerp. PrettyinPink55 04-11-2012, 01:52 AM I guess I'm in the minority here, but I loved David. I thought he was adorable, and I loved his interactions with Mr. Roper. I also loved how he would show up at the most inappropriate moments! TVFactFan 04-11-2012, 01:58 AM I guess I'm in the minority here, but I loved David. He slowed the show down PrettyinPink55 04-11-2012, 02:00 AM What did you think of Jenny? TVFactFan 04-11-2012, 01:25 PM What did you think of Jenny? She should have been added in the beginning of season 2 instead of being thrown in at mid-season. But the Ropers style of show was not a good fit for David and Jenny because it was not a show aimed at a young audience. That's like Jack and Janet allowing a middle age woman to move in after Chrissy left and be the new roomate. It wouldn't have been a good fit. MRPITT 04-11-2012, 02:59 PM I put the addition of the Jenny character right up there with the addition of Sam on Diff'rent Strokes, April on Too Close For Comfort and Oliver on the Brady Bunch as my least favorite character additons. TVFactFan 04-11-2012, 07:04 PM I put the addition of the Jenny character right up there with the addition of Sam on Diff'rent Strokes, April on Too Close For Comfort and Oliver on the Brady Bunch as my least favorite character additons. I just didn't see the purpose of the character, she was too young for Mr. Brookes to flirt with, too old to be around david, and too young to be hanging around the Ropers PrettyinPink55 04-25-2012, 10:32 PM I like how they became her pseudo-parents. |
