Actually, it's a clip from an old variety show episode from the late-1970s, I presume! :)

it was aired one time on tv a few months after STAR WARS hit the screens
it was such a total mess that George Lucas vowed never ever to air it or release it at all

really badddddddd

thankfully, a lot of us have copies from that 1 airing so the special lives on!!!!

a friend burnt me the Holiday Special on DVD awhile back, let's say there's a reason why Lucas doesn't want you to see it

Personally tho, Bea did the best with what what she was given

From an October 2005 edition of the Portland Mercury, Bea Arthur is quoted as saying:

“... I didn't know what that was about at all. I was asked to be in it by the composer of that song [“Goodnight, But Not Goodbye”]…but I had no idea it was even a part of the whole Star Wars thing…I just remember singing to a bunch of people with funny heads.”

Bruce Vilance – co-writer of the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL:
“It's hysterically bad…all the Wookies look like me and sound like fat people having orgasms…How do you write that?…So I said, 'well we have to load this up with stars who sing and dance and do schtick…’”

How Star Wars’ infamous 1978 holiday TV special helped shape the movie franchise’s universe (https://laughingsquid.com/1978-star-wars-holiday-special/)
George Lucas had to be convinced to make it to maintain interest in the franchise a year and a half after Star Wars premiered. Yet it was a “confusing mess.”

On YouTube, there is an interview with Bruce Villanch (sic?) where he talks about the Star Wars holiday show, which was interesting. Bruce said the Wookie's talking sounds like a fat person having an orgasm. Bea wanted to sing, and they let her sing. Actually she was about the only good thing about the show, Bea was believable as a bar maid putting up with the crap of the rouge aliens.

The best part of the holiday special is the animated segment from Nelvana, featuring the first appearance of franchise icon, Boba Fett.
