TV_Fan 10-03-2007, 11:30 PM I'm hoping for word on Diff'rent Strokes Season 3 and Silver Spoons Season 2. factsoflife 10-03-2007, 11:32 PM i know this isn't a sony release but i'm wondering if A Different World Season 2 will EVER be released. Robert 13 10-04-2007, 09:56 AM I am not sure. I think 227 and Who's the Boss could have a shot. In fact 227 was almost scheduled for fall 2006 I think, but never happened obviously. And Sony will release the returning shows with more than a season already released (Facts of Life, The Nanny, etc)...they are just slow. Thanks Pav! Glad to hear they will continue with series that already have a couple of season sets in stores. Can't wait! :) Kristen 10-04-2007, 10:25 PM When can we expect annoucements for the Jan releases? (Can you tell I'm impatient? LOL) Dean Winchester 10-06-2007, 07:19 PM hopefully Sony will be less lazy in 2008, and with King Of Queens and Seinfeld completed, I'm hoping they can start focusing more on their other shows. I hope we at least see these in 2008: 227 season 2 (as Pav said, s2 almost was announced last year) Diff'rent Strokes season 3, and possibly even 4 (I think it wouldn't hurt to release DS and FOL releases day-and-date from now on and maybe put a sticker/coupon on the releases to save $5 if you purchase them at the same time) Facts Of Life season 4, and maybe 5 Maude season 2 (fortunately for me, I have acquired the whole series on DVD, but I'd like to have the authentic uncut official releases) One Day At A Time season 2 (this deserves a second chance, season 2 is where the show gets great IMO) Who's The Boss season 2 (part of me is hoping that Judith Light's newfound popularity on Ugly Betty will be enough to make Sony consider another season, plus the reruns are doing well on ION) there's a lot of others, those just come to mind as being due in 2008 for sure Robert 13 10-06-2007, 08:52 PM When can we expect annoucements for the Jan releases? (Can you tell I'm impatient? LOL) I'm guessing that if there are any releases for January, we will start hearing something soon. Monday is a possibility. We will have to wait and see....and hope. :) treky 10-07-2007, 12:47 AM STILL waiting for Sony to release the rest of BARNEY MILLER. Sadly though; it probably won't be in my lifetime, and I'm 50 (my god; that's the first time I've said that-it just struck me: OH MY GOD, I'm OLD!!!! barnabus62 10-13-2007, 10:53 PM Barney Miller - All seasons after season 1. Pavan 11-05-2007, 12:21 PM Barney Miller S2 -- Jan. 22, 2008. Robert 13 11-05-2007, 01:15 PM Hey Pav, any idea what's coming after that? :) Pavan 11-05-2007, 01:27 PM That is all I know. Nothing else in January. Robert 13 11-05-2007, 01:28 PM Thanks Pav! As always, you rock. :) JulieSomoski 11-05-2007, 06:22 PM I was expecting another All in the Family for January, since I believe season 6 was released last January. It seems now they've been slower than ever. factsoflife 11-05-2007, 11:58 PM SERIOUSLY, they haven't announced Facts Of Life: season 4 yet! what the heck! it's been a year since the last release! it's time already... i really expected it to be released mid-december in time for christmas... Robert 13 11-06-2007, 10:56 AM SERIOUSLY, they haven't announced Facts Of Life: season 4 yet! what the heck! it's been a year since the last release! it's time already... i really expected it to be released mid-december in time for christmas... I know. I did too. I expected a lot of follow-ups that would be on the shelves for Christmas shopping. I guess they think everyone is gonna be buying the new Seinfeld box. Space is limited in stores so that may be the case. They reserved their space for the special box-sets. Even still, post-holiday shopping would have been another thing to consider and they don't have anything coming out under the tv-on-dvd category until Barney Miller. Yeah, just another example of how Sony puts Seinfeld over all their other shows. I remember a couple years back Sony was comparing the sales of Who's the Boss? season 1 to Seinfeld season 4 or something like that. I was like you gotta be kidding me . . . both shows are almost nothing alike. Of course Seinfeld is gonna sell more, but that's no reason to abandon another show. Dean Winchester 11-06-2007, 11:57 PM Yeah, just another example of how Sony puts Seinfeld over all their other shows. I was like you gotta be kidding me . . . both shows are almost nothing alike. Of course Seinfeld is gonna sell more, but that's no reason to abandon another show. I agree totally. Warner did the same thing, that same article pointed out that Night Court only sold like 8% of what Friends sold. Well duh, did anyone not expect Friends to be a bigger seller? I like Seinfeld and Friends a lot, but there's no point in bashing other shows compared to "powerhouses" like those two. Shows like Seinfeld and Friends only come once or twice every decade (the 80's had Cosby and Cheers, the 70's had All In The Family and MASH, the 60's had Andy Griffith, the 50's had Lucy...) Robert 13 11-07-2007, 10:44 AM I agree totally. Warner did the same thing, that same article pointed out that Night Court only sold like 8% of what Friends sold. Hey Dean, you're a Kylie fan too?!? I'm so excited for her new album. Can't wait. Did you buy all of Dannii's releases this week? :) JulieSomoski 11-07-2007, 05:20 PM I agree totally. Shows like Seinfeld and Friends only come once or twice every decade (the 80's had Cosby and Cheers, the 70's had All In The Family and MASH, the 60's had Andy Griffith, the 50's had Lucy...) Yeah . . . Seinfeld and Friends were probably the 2 biggest shows of the late nineties . . . they got huge ratings compared to other Sony and WB shows. They were comparing sales of Night Court and Murphy Brown to Friends, which makes no sense at all, because all 3 are totally different shows with completely different audiences. Friends just went off the air a few years ago, and it thrives in syndication as we speak. They should just be more patient with shows like Murphy Brown and Who's the Boss? instead of abandoning them after just a season. Still no word on anything? Dean Winchester 11-08-2007, 01:35 AM Hey Dean, you're a Kylie fan too?!? I'm so excited for her new album. Can't wait. Did you buy all of Dannii's releases this week? :) I downloaded it and then crashed that night, so bummer for me. I didn't know Dannii had other fans on here, haha. Sometimes I like her even more than Kylie. Dean Winchester 11-08-2007, 01:40 AM Yeah . . They should just be more patient with shows like Murphy Brown and Who's the Boss? instead of abandoning them after just a season. Still no word on anything? I think the companies should treat their TV divisions like they do their film divisions. Sony likely released a slew of moves from the 70's and 80's in the past six months that they knew likely wouldn't amount to selling 0.1% of what Spiderman 3 is selling, yet they released it anyways. I don't understand the difference. They will release notorious box office flops on DVD but a reasonably successful show will be abandoned if it's sales numbers don't come anywhere into the same vicinity as Seinfeld? Unless the show is a victim of music rights hell (and even in many cases, sometimes it can be amended if handled very properly, just don't hack-job it. The Roswell sets are fine examples of sets that had music replacement that was done with class. Some of the songs that played in the background were replaced, but songs by Sheryl Crow, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, Sarah McLachlan and others that were either key to the scene or referenced to or whatever remained, and the set was just fine), there's absolutely no reason for any show to be abandoned. Even if only 15,000 people buy it, that's still 15,000 sales that didn't go to a bootleg site. Dean Winchester 11-08-2007, 05:30 AM in order of importance IMO, this is my top 5 want list from Sony. 1. The Facts Of Life - Season 4. It's been over a year since season 3 and I want to get to the Edna's Edibles and Over Our Heads seasons. To me seasons 5+ are "the good stuff". 2. 227 - Season 2. So high because it's been so long since season 1. I watch it on TV One sometimes late (since I frequently have insomnia) but I would at least love season 2 on DVD. 3. One Day At A Time - Season 2. I bet we'll never see it since I have a feeling season 1 did really bad, but to me, season 2 is when the show starts getting good and this is a show where the bad first season should not be held against it. 4. The Jeffersons - Season 7. I have just started really getting into this show, but now that they've made it past the midway point, there's no looking back, finish it while Sherman Hemsley and Marla Gibbs are still alive (since the time season 1 came out, we lost Isobel Sanford, Franklin Cover and Mike Evans). 5. Diff'rent Strokes - Season 3. Season 3 has always been the turning point of the show for me, when the show started to take off. I don't care for the first two seasons but got them anyways because I loved the show, but it's seasons 3-6 where I thought the show peaked. If Sony did those 5 in 2008, I'll never bitch about them again. I think of that list, The Jeffersons and Facts Of Life are the most likely to come true, but if Barney Miller can come back from the dead, anything is possible Robert 13 11-08-2007, 11:19 AM I downloaded it and then crashed that night, so bummer for me. I didn't know Dannii had other fans on here, haha. Sometimes I like her even more than Kylie. I downloaded Club Disco. I ordered Unleashed but it was delayed until after Christmas from amazon. So I cancelled and re-ordered directly from the UK. The re-issues are difficult to get as imports from U.S. sellers online. I feel like I'm missing out on the Dannii stuff though without seeing her on X Factor. I like Dannii. But I looove Kylie! :) JulieSomoski 11-25-2007, 07:48 PM Any news? It's been awhile since Sony announced any 2007 releases. Even some rumors would be nice. There are so many shows out there from Sony I want (The Jeffersons, All in the Family, Facts of Life, The Nanny, Mad About You, Who's the Boss?, 227, just to name a few) Dean Winchester 11-25-2007, 08:35 PM yea, it's beyond time for some new Sony announcements. They should start rushing up on some of their shows. All In The Family and The Jeffersons were both started over five years ago yet neither of them are near the finish line. WTF is up with that Sony? Robert 13 11-26-2007, 01:24 PM tvshowsondvd.com posted something about Sony releasing My Boys (whatever that is) on dvd in February. They said it hadn't been formally announced yet but that other titles being released in the first 2 weeks of February were announced today. Anyone know what those other titles are? ikhuri 11-26-2007, 01:46 PM tvshowsondvd.com posted something about Sony releasing My Boys (whatever that is) on dvd in February. They said it hadn't been formally announced yet but that other titles being released in the first 2 weeks of February were announced today. Anyone know what those other titles are? The announcement states that "other" titles are being released in the first 2 weeks of Feb. It didn't say that only 2 were announced. Imad JulieSomoski 11-26-2007, 05:30 PM The announcement states that "other" titles are being released in the first 2 weeks of Feb. It didn't say that only 2 were announced. Imad You mean other titles as in other TV Shows? If that's the case, I'd predict it to be The Jeffersons and All in the Family. Both had their previous seasons released awhile ago. Either that, or Facts of Life and Mad About You. Dean Winchester 11-26-2007, 06:20 PM I hope 2008 is the year Sony gets it's act together. I especially want more 227 and Facts Of Life, but I'll be happy with any announcements because 2007 was such a dismal year for them janeydoll 11-26-2007, 07:54 PM I just saw a commercial for Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley and Mork and Mindy, all season 3 coming out tomorrow. is this a good sign that Mad about you and others are on their way? Dean Winchester 11-26-2007, 09:10 PM well, M&M, HD and L&S are Paramount products. For the most part (barring Cheers, which inexplicably has been hanging in mid-air since season 8), they are far more efficient and quicker to finish sets than Sony is JulieSomoski 11-27-2007, 05:17 PM I hope 2008 is the year Sony gets it's act together. I especially want more 227 and Facts Of Life, but I'll be happy with any announcements because 2007 was such a dismal year for them Yeah, 2007 sucked for Sony. I only bought 3 releases from them this year . . . The Jeffersons S6, All in the Family S6, and Mad About You S6, which would usually be much more. It's so sad that almost all the shows I want the most on DVD are owned by Sony-LOL. Same goes for Warner Bros. These companies need to pick up the pace and get their acts together! Robert 13 11-28-2007, 10:59 AM Their lack of releases was said to be due to a shake-up in that department. That was months ago. Sony is a big company. Wouldn't such a problem be rectified so that they could get things back on track in an efficient manner? roseanne88-97, I agree. I would have purchased many more tv-on-dvd sets had they released more follow-up seasons. It used to be you waited for them to release your favorite show. Now, they aren't announcing much of anything. Still waiting for more Facts Of Life and Hart to Hart. JulieSomoski 11-28-2007, 05:21 PM Their lack of releases was said to be due to a shake-up in that department. That was months ago. Sony is a big company. Now, they aren't announcing much of anything. Still waiting for more Facts Of Life and Hart to Hart. yeah, I don't believe that shakeup story at all. Look at when Columbia-Tristar was bought out by Sony. That was an even bigger shakeup, and they still managed to release Tv Show Dvd's at a faster rate. Sony probably has more shows without subsequent season releases than any other company: Who's the Boss?, The Nanny, The Facts of Life, 227, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Mad About You, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Hart to Hart, Dif'rent Strokes, One Day at a Time, and more. Dean Winchester 11-28-2007, 05:48 PM if Sony is so hard-up on finding someone who wants to be in charge for the TV-DVD division, why not get someone on this very board. I am sure Robert or Roseanne8897 would do a much better job than the autopilot they're on right now. JulieSomoski 11-29-2007, 08:47 PM if Sony is so hard-up on finding someone who wants to be in charge for the TV-DVD division, why not get someone on this very board. I am sure Robert or Roseanne8897 would do a much better job than the autopilot they're on right now. I'm sure anyone who can talk can do a better job then they're doing right now. Dean Winchester 12-02-2007, 07:25 PM in the announcement for My Boys, it said that Feb will be a light month (well, has there been anything that isn't light for the TV-DVD field for Sony since earlier this year?) but that things are apparently changing that March onward will be better. Does this mean that Sony is getting things fixed or did they just manage to hit two shows at once with a dart? haha. I know how common it is to release current shows on DVD, but seriously... My Boys is not even popular yet it merits a release before Designing Women or further sets of many hit series? Hopefully the March rumors is going to be a good turnaround for Sony, and that Sony will start catching up on the shows that people want more sets of and not just releasing stuff with little fanfare. Kristen 12-03-2007, 12:44 AM I heard that too, about them starting to release more stuff in March. If that's true, doesn't that mean we should be seeing announcements fairly soon? They have SO many unfinished series. Are Good Times, Sanford & Son, What's Happening!!, Soap, Seinfeld, and King of Queens the only series that they have finished? Besides Gidget and Tabitha b/c they were only 1 set. I'm guessing we'll see Bewitched in March since there is a released planned in the UK for March 10: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bewitched-6-Complete/dp/B0011MPHPY/ref=pd_bbs_7?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1199223087&sr=8-7 In Japan, Sony has released all 8 seasons already AND a series set including new bonus material with Erin Murphy (Tabitha). My guess is that we will get something very similar after seasons 6-8 are released. And I Dream of Jeannie only has one season left so hopefully we can finish that series soon also. Then they will probably release a complete series set with new extras, a trend that is becoming predictable and annoying. Thankfully more Barney Miller is coming soon also. There is a 90% chance that alll of these shows will see releases in 2008. Sony usually releases 1 set a year for all of these shows. JulieSomoski 01-02-2008, 05:32 PM Adding to what Solomon said, it's a shock that shows like Good Times and Sanford and Son sold better and have already finished on DVD, compared to The Jeffersons and All in the Family. For god sakes, All in the Family was #1 for 5 years straight, and it gets beaten on DVD by 2 shows that only ran 6 seasons, barely breaking the top 20. And what about shows like Soap and What's Happening!!, which only ran 4 and 3 seasons (although I like both shows), selling better than shows like One Day at a Time, Maude, and 227, which were much more popular and ran longer. One Day a Time was one of the biggest hits on the 70's, and 80's. Maude never left the top 20 it's entire run, 227 was one of the biggest breakout shows of the 80's, peaking at #7, and all are abandoned on DVD. It makes no sense (and sorry to rant). TVFactFan 01-02-2008, 08:01 PM Adding to what Solomon said, it's a shock that shows like Good Times and Sanford and Son sold better and have already finished on DVD, compared to The Jeffersons and All in the Family. Maude is not a REWATCH type of show because of it's episode ideas. I would buy Season 2 on DVD ut probably would never watch again. The Humor on the show was just FUNNY ONLY ONCE type of Humor Dean Winchester 01-02-2008, 08:22 PM Maude is not a REWATCH type of show because of it's episode ideas. I would buy Season 2 on DVD ut probably would never watch again. The Humor on the show was just FUNNY ONLY ONCE type of Humor I have to agree there. I got season 1 when it came out just because I love The Golden Girls and always wanted to see Bea and Rue's other show, and I acquired seasons 2-6 from my friend Todd, but it definately isn't the type of show you can just take out and watch an episode. Dean Winchester 01-02-2008, 08:25 PM I mainly want more 227, One Day At A Time and Diff'rent Strokes this year. I just acquired the remaining Facts Of Life from a trader on here, which is missing some episodes, but still there is more than enough season 4 to tie me over until the real deal comes out. But 227, ODAAT and DS are all shows that had great seasons 2, 2 and 3 (the next ones due) that we definately deserve to see more. factsoflife 01-03-2008, 12:55 AM I mainly want more 227, One Day At A Time and Diff'rent Strokes this year. But 227, ODAAT and DS are all shows that had great seasons 2, 2 and 3 (the next ones due) that we definately deserve to see more. 227 got better with each season; as the characters more fully developed (especially Sandra). I think the reason why some shows that were popular don't sell well now has to due with them not playing well now as compared to when they were popular and new and spoke to the times they were in. Maybe the more topical shows don't hold as much meaning now as they did when they first aired. mlingerfelt 01-03-2008, 11:47 AM when will Sony make more announcements? I noticed S2 of Barney Miller is coming out this year. maybe they get WTB,227, AND DS. That's the million dollar question. I've checked from time to time over the past couple of months but there have been almost no announcements on classic tv with the exception of Barney Miller. I kinda lost interest and don't know if I'll bother continuing my collections anymore. JulieSomoski 01-03-2008, 06:36 PM I can definitely see what you mean about Maude, but I'd still like to see a second season, even if it isn't the type of show that may be funny now compared to when it first aired. But, that's still not a must on my list. The ones I'd like most are for sure Who's the Boss? season 2, 227 season 2, Facts of Life season 4, and One Day at a Time Season 2, not counting The Jeffersons and All in the Family. Sony really needs to get the ball rolling here. clj2 01-03-2008, 07:27 PM What about Hazel? Surprised it hasn't been mentioned. I guess there were low sales? Kristen 01-08-2008, 11:05 PM Well, I received a reply from Sony today. Not good news, I'm afraid. JulieSomoski 02-01-2008, 11:57 AM Looks like Sony has finally put together a new ad pamphlet with their current DVD releases in the newest Barney Miller sets. Here Sony hears the show's coming to TV Land, and they decide to put out a new DVD. They didn't do this when Who's the Boss? came to ION. They didn't do this when 227 came to TV One. First of all, I just want to say. I HATE JUST SHOOT ME! I know, it's rude to the people who actually do like this show, but I consider this show to be one of the worst ever. Universal may have done just as many one-and-done titles as Sony has, but Universal has at least licensed out other titles to other labels at least so there's more of the catalog being mined. Sony though just stagnates along, with so few releases. I consider it a miracle that after four years we FINALLY got S2 of "Barney Miller" which I will admit if I had to pick any one abandoned Sony title I wanted resurrected it would have been that one. But it seems like their whole TV on DVD operation is one of colossal mismanagement. What is that?-lol Exactly! Robert 13 02-14-2008, 10:45 AM But it's messed up that Sony will release My Boys or Damages on DVD before another season of The Jeffersons, Facts Of Life or All In The Family. Messed up is right. Does anyone from Sony visit this board or the Home Theatre board. There are obviously many messages in favor of Sony's classic tv-on-dvd selections. Someone at the studio surely should take notice if they are seeing the demand out there from fans. JulieSomoski 02-14-2008, 05:06 PM Messed up is right. Someone at the studio surely should take notice if they are seeing the demand out there from fans. Sony's products are actually very good. They're about the only studio out there that still produces digipacks, which I love. Theyir sets are cheap, and very rewatchable. The special features they do include are really great. Too bad they don't seem to get that part. And, yeah, newer shows sell better. I guess people would just rather own the episodes they just watched on TV rather than shows they watched 20 years ago. Dean Winchester 02-15-2008, 03:32 AM I agree that a lot of current shows are profitable, but there are also a lot of current shows that really are just sliding by on the radar. Yes, it's a current series but how popular is it really? I don't think it will sell extrememly better than The Jeffersons or All in the Family, but I think it will sell more. Even though it is a cable sitcom, it'll be promoted most likely on television, and people will want to buy it to catch up on it before season 2. For classic series, people know they have nothing to catch up on. For the ones that aren't hardcore TV watchers, if they have extra money lying around, they'll go out and buy it. If not, if not. If not, if not. well yes, it's a cable series, but it doesn't exactly seem to have the hype or fanfare that cable shows such as Nip/Tuck, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Monk have. The only reason I've even heard of the show is from times I might be bored and watch a Sex And The City or Seinfeld episode on TBS because I'm too lazy to go upstairs and get my DVD's out. Hell, even Solomon, the "Sitcom Analyzer" never heard of the show until this thread. I think it may sell to the small fanbase the show has, but compared to other shows on cable, it's barely a blip on the radar. It's almost like old UPN sitcoms next to Friends and Seinfeld in the 90's. JulieSomoski 03-28-2008, 01:57 PM Sony seems to be going in a different direction this time around. They've just announced complete series sets of both Soap and What's Happening!. For one, I think this is great (too bad I own the seasons sets already), but should they opt to do this instead of continuing releasing some of their other shows (the ones WE WANT). It doesn't make any sense to me. gotsmart 03-28-2008, 04:01 PM I'm looking forward to hearing more details about these complete series sets. I'm also surprised we haven't heard anything about more All in the Family and The Jeffersons (I figured season 7 of both shows would be out by May), then again with Sony I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Dean Winchester 03-28-2008, 06:39 PM To be honest though, with the sole exception of Paramount/CBS, EVERY company sucks donkey balls right now at releasing non-current DVD's. I don't understand why though. Fox, Warner, Sony, Universal and Buena Vista are all as dismal at the present. There was a time when every month had at least one great TV-DVD release, and now it's down to once a quarter. I've pretty much given up expecting further seasons of anything I like that isn't still being produced. I can't complain too much as a number of my favorite shows have been completed, but there's still a few that I am waiting for more. Paramount is the only company doing right by the consumers right now, and even they are really bad at terms of music clearance (see Happy Days). Considering season 4 of Family Ties is next in line, I dread what they're going to do with "At This Moment" (a song which hit #1 simply based on exposure on the show) if we get the season at all. But, it's hard to stay optimistic when we all want our favorite shows out on DVD, and companies like Sony could care less. Dean Winchester 03-29-2008, 07:22 PM I'm actually thinking of starting a petition to send to Sony, do you think it would be a good idea? This is something along the lines "Dear Sony Entertainment Your company has one of the most impressive vaults for classic television. From the 50's through the 90's, you have hundreds, if not thousands of beloved television series gathering dust. We are aware that you are the prime supporter of BluRay, but is it fair that we as TV-DVD consumers, have to suffer the most? We are aware of the great shows you have completed over time, such as Good Times, Seinfeld, Sanford And Son, Soap, What's Happening, King Of Queens just to name a few. But for every King Of Queens, there are nine All In The Family's or The Jeffersons' that are sitting in DVD release limbo with no hints of a future release because the TV-DVD department has become marginalized and a far lesser priority than in 2005. We also do not like the Minisode phenomenon you're trying to turn our old sitcom favorites into. Instead of releasing Facts Of Life episodes as bonus minisodes on DVD sets, how about releasing seasons 4-9? Speaking of Facts Of Life, and Maude, and Diff'rent Strokes, and One Day At A Time... what is with your YouTube phobia? You are aware these shows still have fans, right? So what if Facts or Maude fans who are sick of waiting for another season announcement goes to YouTube to watch an episode that you have no intention of making for sale? Depriving fans of shows they want to see that simply cannot compete with Seinfeld in the sales department only drives fans to the tape trading market, and while you hate that concept, can you seriously blame fans who just want to watch an old sitcom again that you're not releasing and nobody is airing in reruns? Speaking of Seinfeld, that show is a one of a kind success. You cannot seriously expect any other show in your vault to sell like that, so why penalize shows for only selling a fraction of it? Something like Silver Spoons or One Day At A Time doesn't even air in syndication anymore, while Seinfeld airs eight times a day in some markets. How can you expect those shows to sell Seinfeld numbers when Seinfeld has the exposure one hundred fold? Warner Bros. is just as guilty with punishing shows that aren't Friends. Shows like Seinfeld and Friends are one in a catalog, they're the exceptions, not the norm. Please Sony, listen to the consumers. You have the rights to one of the best television vaults around, and the fans just want more. Come on, finish up The Jeffersons, All In The Family, Married With Children, Charlie's Angels and the sort... give us more Facts Of Life, Diff'rent Strokes and Mad About You... give a second chance to 227, One Day At A Time, Larry Sanders Show, Mary Hartman Mary Hartman and others. Signed, your consumers" good? friendsfan77 03-29-2008, 07:41 PM ^ BRAVO! I wish companies would get that through their heads. They should know that just because fans love popular shows like Friends and King of Queens, that doesn't mean that's ALL they care about. Companies like Sony and Warner have some awesome shows in the vault and all they do is just gather dust. And I wouldn't need to trade or go to YouTube for most shows if a network cared to air the shows and the DVDs were out. It's not like most fans don't want their favorite shows on TV, and even better off on DVD with episodes that are uncut and are of master picture and sound quality. Would they rather lose money because fans are sick of the BS and they just turn to bootlegs or YouTube, or would they rather gain money by releasing DVD's and letting the fans buy their favorites? They just need to face the facts; not every show is going to sell as well as Friends, King of Queens, Seinfeld, or Grey's Anatomy. Robert 13 03-29-2008, 08:36 PM To be honest though, with the sole exception of Paramount/CBS, EVERY company sucks donkey balls right now at releasing non-current DVD's.    Oh My God! Well, they've definitely already lost some of my money. I already acquired complete series sets from private collectors. And I've been very happy with what I've received. The quality may not be DVD-perfect but it's very good and has allowed me to see seasons of shows that I would, otherwise, not be able to see see from the non-existant official dvd release. Dean Winchester 03-31-2008, 03:29 PM I kinda like the idea for "complete series sets". In the sense that they're space savers, instead of those gigantic complete series sets that you have to put on the top row of the shelf because it's not going to fit alphabetically with the other DVD's. However, SONY need to be told that a lot of fans and the casual buying public are waiting for the latter seasons of shows until they splash their cash. The later seasons are when shows really got into their stride... Facts of Life (Edna's Edibles onwards), Silver Spoons (the Alfonso Ribeiro years)... this is why the initial seasons sell less than anticipated... people are waiting for the forthcoming seasons to be released! That's exactly what I'm doing - which I know doesn't help the statistics, but I can't buy every season of every show I like. I simply have no shelf space! I can't buy every season of shows I like anymore either because I have already run out of shelf space :( I've almost run out of it myself, TV_Fan. I don't know if I'll have enough to hold "Hawaii Five-O" S4 and "CHiPs" S2 when I eventually get them. The recent acquisition of "The Waltons" S7 for my mother has put me that much closer. robby76 05-14-2008, 11:46 AM One more thing... SONY also need to re-release their SUNBOW catalogue... GI Joe and Jem need a new release. The Rhino sets are getting too pricey and after 5 or 6 years, they're not in decent condition for re-sale. Robert 13 05-14-2008, 12:33 PM One more thing... SONY also need to re-release their SUNBOW catalogue... GI Joe and Jem need a new release. The Rhino sets are getting too pricey and after 5 or 6 years, they're not in decent condition for re-sale. I don't think Sony realizes the value of what they have in their possession. Jem was a big seller for Rhino and continues to be one of the most-sought after out-of-print dvds. Plus the series was never completed on dvd. But I doubt we will see anything in the near future because Sony seems to be under the false impression that old is out. Many people who I run into on a daily basis don't even watch current tv anymore. I had this conversation twice yesterday and both friends I spoke to said they watch reruns when they can find them or a season of a show on dvd. I don't know where Sony does their research to come to the conclusion they arrive at. robby76 05-14-2008, 09:26 PM Jem was a big seller for Rhino and continues to be one of the most-sought after out-of-print dvds. You're telling me - I got scammed on ebay for a season 1/2 Jem boxset. Thankfully I got my money back. I've now had to resort to buying the Australian Jem volume sets - luckily I have a multi-regional dvd player. Robert 13 05-22-2008, 11:53 AM All releases for July have been announced. Does anyone know when August releases will be announced? I wonder if anything will be released in terms of "classic" tv-on-dvd. Dare I ask? gotsmart 05-22-2008, 06:10 PM I read on Home Theater Forum that season 7 of Bewitched is coming in August but ONLY in France. Sony US hasn't started working on a region 1 season 7 release yet, but hopefully it will be released by October. Robert 13 07-07-2008, 12:37 PM News from Sony... they are releasing Season 1-Volume 1 of Seinfeld. http://bestsmileys.com/angry1/1.gif  JulieSomoski 07-07-2008, 01:52 PM I will never understand Sony at all. Why would they release a series that has already been completely released when they continue to have many sought after shows that are either abandoned or not on DVD at all? TeeVeeCloset 07-07-2008, 02:14 PM News from Sony... they are releasing Season 1-Volume 1 of Seinfeld. http://bestsmileys.com/angry1/1.gif  I actually thought you were kidding...lol.....than I read at www.tvshowsondvd.com that it was really announced! Technically just the "Seinfeld Chronicles" 5 episodes, no mention of an actual volume 1, etc....but still a pathetic release aimed at who????? gotsmart 07-07-2008, 04:43 PM News from Sony... they are releasing Season 1-Volume 1 of Seinfeld. http://bestsmileys.com/angry1/1.gif  Ughhh. I love Seinfeld but this release is pointless! I could understand Sony releasing a best of collection with episodes from all 9 season but why are they releasing the 5 episode first season? It is like the complete series sets of Soap and What's Happening. They should be releasing new stuff before re-releasing things. It looks like season 5 of I Dream of Jeannie and season 9 of Married with Children is all we're gonna get from Sony for awhile. I'm hoping to see season 7 of Bewitched in October and I think I've given up hope on All in the Family, Facts of Life, Mary Hartman, Maude, One Day at a Time, Who's the Boss?, The Nanny...the list goes on. TV_Fan 07-07-2008, 10:17 PM Sony is going with the idea that newer shows make more money. When it comes down to dollars that's probably true, but what they're forgetting about are the fans who made their older shows last as long as they did. We need more Silver Spoons, All In The Family, Jeffersons, etc. Sony really irritates me (to put it mildly). BensonFan 07-07-2008, 10:23 PM News from Sony... they are releasing Season 1-Volume 1 of Seinfeld. http://bestsmileys.com/angry1/1.gif  :horse: bluthree 07-12-2008, 11:03 AM I cant believe Sony is releasing another Seinfeld DVD! Anyone thats a fan of the show including me has already has the show on DVD. I'm so sick of the studios releasing season 1 set of a show and not give us anything else. I'm surprised that Sony gave us Diff'rent Strokes season 2 . I was afraid that Universal was going to do the same thing with The Incredilbe Hulk when season 1 on DVD came out.I thought that was all we was going to get from that show. But then Universal released season 2.And must recently they released season 3 and 4 back to back on DVD.And season 5 will be out this fall.Thinks Universal now can you please release more Leave It To Beaver season sets on DVD please? Robert 13 07-25-2008, 12:15 PM Does anyone know if Sony's slate for the remainder of the year includes any surprises? Usually, by now, their release schedule has been planned for the most part. Pavan 07-25-2008, 01:29 PM Robert 13, they have only announced through September, so there is no way officially to hear about Oct-Dec yet...way too early for Sony. They announce week by week. Robert 13 07-25-2008, 03:26 PM Robert 13, they have only announced through September, so there is no way officially to hear about Oct-Dec yet...way too early for Sony. They announce week by week. Oh, okay. I thought there might be insider news before the announce dates. There's been so much energy around Sony's abandoned shows, it feels like we're always waiting for that one little announcement that we can look forward to. :) robby76 07-25-2008, 09:48 PM I want my Facts of Life NOW! Aaargghhh! JulieSomoski 08-04-2008, 12:41 PM Well, Sony news updates - they are now planning on releasing both Good Times and Sanford and Son each in a "complete series" box, exactly like they did for Soap and What's Happening!!!. What is the deal with these crappy and cheap complete series sets lately? Sony is run by a bunch of idiots. I can see if they were nice, elegant box sets, but they're cheap as hell. Who would honestly want Good Times and Sanford and Son redone over abandoned shows like Facts of Life, The Jeffersons, The Nanny, etc.? JulieSomoski 08-04-2008, 01:24 PM More Sony updates - they've also announced the complete series of "NewsRadio" and the early 70's show "Quark," along with The Partridge Family, Til Death and Rules of Engagement. If you ask me, this is good news. I still hate the fact that they're releasing shows already complete on DVD, but they are moving in the right direction with classic television, especially with The Partridge Family: season 3. I just hope we can get shows like Facts of Life continued next. Robert 13 08-04-2008, 04:03 PM Yeah, I saw the news today too. It's a waste of their resources. But hey, that's what they're doing. I'm through with Sony. I haven't bought a Sony dvd since last year's release of "What's Happening Now!!". With the holidays coming up, they are going to have almost nothing but rehashed stuff out there. JulieSomoski 08-04-2008, 06:07 PM I don't get the point of repackaging what's already out, either. But, I am actually interested in their NewsRadio series set. I don't own the season sets, but was interested in buying for some time now. I could be saving nearly triple the money by buying the series set - it's crappy packaging and they don't have episode guides, but all the bonus material is stil lincluded, and there is A LOT for a Sony set. TV_Fan 08-04-2008, 07:56 PM With the minsisodes of Fantasy Island & Diff'rent Strokes that will be on some of the new sets, this might be a sign of more releases for these shows. Of course they may also be just trying boost sales for the existing sets, but hey with the release of The Patridge Family season 3, I guess there's always hope. Exactly - I honestly think we're going to be seeing a lot more abandoned shows make a come back in the near future. So far it's happened to Mad About You in 2007, and Barney Miller and now Partridge Family in 2008 - and, with all these complete series sets of classic sitcoms coming out, Sony is definitely going in the right direction. I hope you're right. It seems like I've been waiting forever for Season 3 of The Nanny. It's one of my favorite sitcoms, and I'd hate for it to be abandoned just before it starts to get really good. I'm also anxious for Sony to finally release Season 1 of Designing Women like they've been promising for so long. - Kristen JulieSomoski 08-06-2008, 12:42 PM I hope you're right. But, it does seem like they're going back to their classic shows - even if they still are taking they're time, hopefully we can get those releases SOON! TV_Fan 08-06-2008, 06:19 PM I'd like to see more Diff'rent Strokes, Silver Spoons, All in the Family, The Jeffersons & Fantasy Island. Some series never before released would be nice too. angel676 08-06-2008, 07:56 PM I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one waiting on "The Nanny", this waiting is getting rediculous(sp). What ever happened to the "abandoned" shows that is/was suppose to be released sometime this year? Or was that a freakin' lie?? The main shows I'm concerned about are "The Nanny", "Facts of Life" and "Diff'rent Strokes", I wanna see these shows come out ASAP. When Sony starts showing effort in releasing more of these series, I'll stop complaining, but til then I freakin' hate Sony, they are such slackers!!!! ikhuri 08-06-2008, 08:04 PM I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one waiting on "The Nanny", this waiting is getting rediculous(sp). I was also getting discouraged. However, Sony seems to be headed in the right direction, given their latest annoucements, although 3 of them were for complete series sets. But they still announced Patridge Family Season 3 and Quark (short lived '70s sci-fi sitcom). Let's just see if next Monday, they make more announcements. That would be a good sign of them getting back on track, hopefully. Imad JulieSomoski 08-07-2008, 04:08 PM I don't understand why they're releasing "Quark" on DVD - who the hell over there thinks that will actually sell more than shows like The Nanny and The Jeffersons? Why in the world would they release that before releasing other, more popular shows? TV_Fan 08-07-2008, 07:36 PM I don't understand why they're releasing "Quark" on DVD - who the hell over there thinks that will actually sell more than shows like The Nanny and The Jeffersons? Robert 13 09-19-2008, 11:05 AM Is I Dream Of Jeannie: The Complete Series the final classic-tv-on-dvd release for 2008 for Sony? Does anyone know? JulieSomoski 09-19-2008, 05:47 PM Is I Dream Of Jeannie: The Complete Series the final classic-tv-on-dvd release for 2008 for Sony? Does anyone know? My guess is yes. You'd think like other distributors, Sony would put out a few DVD's in time for the holidays, but since they don't think along the same lines as others do, it probably is the last one. I wonder what they'll do now that I Dream of Jeannie is done. mlingerfelt 02-22-2009, 11:04 PM I wish Sony get off their arse and start releasing more classic tv shows. TeeVeeCloset 02-23-2009, 01:54 PM I'll be happy if they announce a proper season 2 of "My Three Sons" & "Petticoat Junction" soon......but I have a feeling that CBS/Paramount is putting releases on the backburner due to the recession. BensonFan 03-07-2009, 09:48 PM Does anyone know when the next time is they will be making an announcement of what they'll be releasing? JulieSomoski 03-08-2009, 02:36 PM Their release schedule is so odd - for example, they have The Jeff Foxworthy Show season 2 coming out sometime in May/June. The Nanny is seeing its third season release in a few weeks. But what about all these other shows? Robert 13 03-09-2009, 12:07 PM I've been waiting for more Facts Of Life but apparently someone called Sony and they are not being released in the near future. I agree. But i would really love to see the entire series released--- seasons 4 through 9 would be my dream come true! my favorite seasons are seasons 6 and 8! JulieSomoski 03-09-2009, 07:57 PM Shout! needs to get their hands on a lot of these Sony properties. I just don't understand how a show like The Partridge Family can be finished on DVD before shows like All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Facts of Life. Sony has their heads up their asses, that's all that's to it - they can't say that sales goals for these shows have not been met, because that has to be a lie. How high do they set their standards? It's almost impossible the way they set their DVD plans. Seriously, Facts of Life, All in The Family, The Jeffersons, Who's the Boss?, Mad About You, Benson, Maude, 227 - Shout, are you listening? DallasFan 03-09-2009, 09:49 PM I agree. But i would really love to see the entire series released--- seasons 4 through 9 would be my dream come true! my favorite seasons are seasons 6 and 8! Robert 13 05-06-2009, 12:42 PM Sony has a lot of shows I'd like to see released. But it's been so long, I don't see it happening anytime soon unfortunately. They seem to have adapted to the idea that releasing nothing is better than releasing anything. Sure, they have released more of "The Nanny", "Barney Miller" and "Partridge Family" but the bulk of their library remains untouched or barely dented. There are fans waiting for "The Facts Of Life", "Hart to Hart", "Hazel", "All in the Family", "The Flying Nun" and many more. I, for one, would love to see more "What's Happening Now!!" and even Shirley's one-season wonder "One in a Million" but the way they move, you would thing it's some sort of mountain-climbing journey into the vaults. McGillicuddy 05-06-2009, 05:25 PM After Norman Lear's Big Box set is released I wonder if Sony will finish All in The Family and The Jeffersons, and release the second seasons of Maude, One Day at a Time and Archie Bunker's Place. mlingerfelt 05-06-2009, 06:25 PM Sony has a lot of shows I'd like to see released.
