TVFactFan 08-12-2006, 12:43 PM I turned this on at 12pm but I can't stomach it any longer. This is not a movie at all. Don't know what to call this. All this movie does is make me want to watch the WIZARD OF OZ. A REAL MOVIE. The Wiz is a JOKE

I so agree with you. Watching "The Wiz" just makes you long for the real thing, "Wizard of Oz" with Judy Garland, a true actress and phenomenal singing talent.
Brian Damage 08-12-2006, 12:49 PM What channel is it on?

Brian Damage 08-12-2006, 01:12 PM I like the Wiz, it isn't a classic like The Wizard of Oz, but it is still entertaining.

They resembled each other back then. Now, he resembles NO ONE.

Yeah, I saw The Wiz, and it was very good. Maybe it wasn't the "Wizard Of Oz", but I know many people who saw both movies and like them without dissin' the other. I like "The Wiz" and it was a good movie that didn't deserve this negative feedback. Some of ya'll don't realize that the Wiz was made 40 years after the Wizard of Oz and was a different era. The songs were modern and funkier for those who can get down with it. You can't touch The Wizard Of Oz, but The Wiz stood it's place. All it was doing was giving viewers how it would look in a black version. Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, and Ted Ross did an excellent job in recreating this classic. Something another group of actors probably wouldn't have been able to do. The Wiz is a classic, to me, it achieved a modest audience. I liked it, and it got a new generation for those who viewed it. I loved, the song, "Ease On Down the Road".
vashti1999 08-12-2006, 10:25 PM One thing people forget, whether they feel it was a bad movie, was that The Wiz was a very successful Broadway musical, winning 7 of the 8 Tony Awards it was nominated for three years before they did a movie version. I never saw the stage show, so I can't say how good of a job they did transferring it from stage to screen, but on its own, the movie was very enjoyable. That's the way it should be viewed, not with The Wizard of Oz stuck in the back of your mind.

I guess since it was more of a musical than a movie, I couldn't get into it

It had to take something like that to get a reply?

No it was just a horrible movie.
James"Thunder"Early 08-13-2006, 11:48 PM I have the DVD and I like it, but I'll admit the stage show sounded like it was much better than the film.

Thank you! Everythang ain't for everybody!
Dude111 12-27-2025, 06:06 AM I so agree with you. Watching "The Wiz" just makes you long for the real thing, "Wizard of Oz" with Judy Garland, a true actress and phenomenal singing talent.I havent ever seen it and I dont want to!!
Took me long enough to get an early release of WIZARD OF OZ (1980) that looks, etc exactly as it was then!!
Hawkee 12-28-2025, 05:00 AM When Quincy Jones got the chance to turn the Broadway play The Wiz into a movie in 1978 many people were afraid it would be a dynamite failure. But when you have big name singers like Diana Ross play Dorothy and Michael Jackson play The Cowardly Lion you know that musicals will become hits. And when The Wiz made it's debut in theaters in 1978 this version proved the naysayers wrong. Because The Wiz is not only based on The Wizard Of Oz it turns the movie into a fun experience. And with songs like Ease On Down The Road The Wiz proves that it can be fun. But the real showstopper is Diana Ross singing Home and you listen to her version of Home she brings it to life so well. Another singer who did Home was Stephanie Mills and who was also the original Dorothy in the Broadway version of The Wiz and Stephanie sings Home out of the ballpark and adds a little prologue in the intro that goes like this,
"when I think of home"
"I think of a resting place"
"a place where there's peace quiet and serenity"
"and that's where some of my friends have gone"
"friends who traveled with me through my wonderful experience in Oz"
"a journey i'll never forget"
But when you get the general picture it's hard to believe that there hasn't been talk of a The Wiz remake since NBC's The Wiz Live and The Wiz should be remade because it's a fun adaption of The Wizard Of Oz and it should be more popular
Dude111 12-28-2025, 10:50 AM Hmmm they were not trying to copy Wizard of oz?
I may have to get a copy Hawk,I like those songs!!
Thanx for your entry!!
