I have to go with "old" Eve.

I just watched the episode in which Marcia and Greg bet on the license results and the sub plot with Jan's "debate team" was a fairly terrible performance. Eve as she got older was so utterly unconvincing and hollow it's tough to watch. Her attempts at being "sad" or depressed are depressing... which is strange because in the shows first few years she was one of the better performers, I wonder what happened??

She seems to have been the one, then and later, who was most sensitive and often resentful about her perceived identity being her BB character. So she may have been inclined to not put so much into the character, and maybe even make Jan less appealing and convincing.

The one person that sticks out in my mind as someone who could not act was not a Brady kid....it was the girl that played "Linda" on the episode where Greg was in love with his teacher...not the teacher Linda, but that girl with the dark hair that was from "Seatttttle" haha, and she said; "well.....there's one boy i Liiiike" .....

Please take no offense anybody but I thought Linda looked like a mini transvestite.

LOL!

If we are doing character guest stars, two that are so obvious, they get "Idiot acting awards!!!" (Drumroll Please.................)

Skip Farnum and Tank Gates!!! The only thing is, for worst actor, I don't know which one to put first! LOL!

I actually like Skip. Not sure why so many hate this guy! :) He totally works for me in that "insane" 70's TV sort of way. Plus the Adios Johnny Bravo "record producers" are much in the same vein as being over the top and people don't seem to mind, I love all of them.

Yeah... I thought for the most part, the kids were all pretty good and natural. But the 'older' Jan really did seem to slip quite a bit from her earlier performances.

I've heard and read that Sherwood deliberately gave Jan some of the more complicated episodes early on, because he thought she was the best actor of any of the kids (he also thought Bobby was the best actor among the boys).

But yeah, her performance, particularly in THAT episode (the Debate one) was not good at all...not that the script for her part was that good either.. but she didn't do much with it.

She sure was appealing to ME in that last season :loveya::loveya::loveya:
(Not so much for her acting ability as...um...other reasons).

But I know what you mean!

I didn't think she did that well, acting wise, in the Miss Popularity episode either... although she was, of course, quite hot!

I also think Skip Farnum was fun. Maybe the reason Jack really hates that episode ("And Now A Word From Our Sponsor"), is because Barry Williams singled this show out in his book, as being the one Robert Reed really despised. The line that really stuck out for Reed was the one where Mike has to look over the contract, and say he "just doesn't understand all this legal mumbo-jumbo". Coming off of the highly acclaimed series "The Defenders", where his character worked on legal problems every week, you could probably understand Robert Reed's frustration with having to say a line like that.

Besides this reason, I can't figure out why Jack constantly puts this fun little episode at the bottom of his list, when there are clearly many others that should go underneath it.

Jack...am I missing your reasoning here?

Another horrible actor is Steve on the "Kelley Kids." He is really stiff and you can see him mouthing the lines when Duane talks.

Jan stumbles on her lines and it really bothers me when she says "Norris Coombs" the first time instead of "Nora Coombs" in "Her Sister's Shadow."

All the Brady kids are terrible actors when they have to act excited and jump around as a group.

Madame X, I am confused. How is Steve "mouthing the lines when Duane talks"? Does that mean Steve is echoing Duane's lines?

Welcome to the boards, by the way!

Yes, when Duane is saying his lines, you can see Steve's lips moving to Duane's words. I guess he is getting ready for his cue.

Maybe he meant Steve was mouthing his own lines while Duane was talking. (Yikes, that IS bad...but then, few child actors can really act.)

Some of Marcia's emotional displays could be unconvincing, but her lines were usually well done. Greg was excellent all around. Peter wasn't a wonderful actor, but he really tried, and made the best of what talent he had. Bobby was all right, although his formula of "squint a lot, talk in whiny voice, rinse and repeat" got boring after a while. Cindy did a good job. I thought Jan was great, and I have yet to see most of the final episodes (and even if her acting does slip around that time, I probably won't mind, as there were other reasons to pay close attention to her by that time...cough).

As for the adults, Carol's schtick was inane and repetitive, but the bottom line was that she played her part well. Mike did what he could with the material, although I can understand his frustration. Alice was good, too.

I'd say most of the guest stars were worse than any of the regulars by a considerable margin. ^^

I think Eve's voice in the Miss Popularity eppy was EXTREMELY nasal and lackluster but I thought she was good in the debate subplot...

Seattle Linda obviously had a speech impediment...

Some of Bobby's scenes were so touching I cried like a little girl...

Seattle Linda?

Or did you mean the teacher Greg had a crush on?

There was actually a "Seattle Linda," if you want to refer to her accordingly. Specifically "Anna Karenina" was referring to Marcia's friend Linda from school who pronounced her hometown "SYAT-l".

I guess the biggest problem I have w/ Jan in the last year is that she's too stunningly beautiful by then for me to believe that she's the "no talent" that she calls herself in "Try, Try Again". Then in the next episode she has her Brady ego trip in "Miss Popularity", so I guess she got TOO much confidence from that art class in the previous show.

No,

You are on the right track. I agree with Robert Reed's reasons (all of them) why this episode SUCKS! It's soooo out of place by so many standards. The situations are totally unrealistic, the acting is bad all around, Farnum look's like he's on (or never got off of) bad acid. Like Reed says, you don't even SEE any actual directing or making of a commercial. If Farnum had been more natural, and not some spaced-out 60's lunatic, this episode might have had a chance. Albert Lewin who was the head script writer for this episode must have been smoking something with Farnum at the time this was written!

This episode makes Cousin Oliver's arrival look good!!!

BTW Welcome to the boards, Madame/Stace, Jan was playing a sister in the older one's shadow, so it's obviousl that Eve would have to sound nervous and mispronounce some words. The Bradys had to act as a "typical perky" group of kids..

BTW Look at the Skip episode and it';s obvious why Robert Reed hated it..he's not even on my BB poster..

I thought Maureen was a fantastic cryer. She cried real tears and it never seemed put on or OTT like some shows would have them do.

Skip Farnum is actually a character, Smartboy. He was the guy who made the soap commercial with the Bradys in the episode "And Now A Word From Our Sponsor." Paul Winchell was the actor who played him.

In defense of Eve, in the episodes where she was feeling inferior to Marcia, the Miss Popularity ep., the no talent episode or the "middle-child' episode, she was supposed to be displaying her lack of confidence and/ or feeling of inferiority. That was how she was supposed to come across, so I would say she did that well.
