View Full Version : update music
unsolvedviewer 07-28-2006, 12:12 AM anyone notice in today's (7/27) episode about the abducted baby, the same music from the Baskin children update was played during the discussion of the other missing babies? It was freaky to hear that music again....
crystaldawn 07-28-2006, 01:38 PM Speaking of UM's update music, I've noticed recently that part of the beginning music of the PSS is really what UM used as the update music later.
Goofyman 07-28-2006, 02:45 PM Yeah, I noticed the song immediately and kept telling my mom, "This is the music! This is the ultimate!"
That music rules. It adds about 10 levels of scary, though.
greatgarrett2 07-29-2006, 03:21 AM I personally like the music UM uses when I'm watching the Canadian UFO segment on one of the UFO DVDs while filming 'Guardian' typing his name on the type writer.....now that's freaky! lol
Guardian was the mysterious informant who sent in the tape to a UFO investigator in the States from Canada.
Beetlejuice69 08-07-2006, 10:35 PM I remember one time I heard the update music and, without thinking, ran out of the room.

NDAlum2003 08-07-2006, 11:33 PM That brings back memories of when I was about eight (1989) and thought UM was the scariest thing on earth.
skunk ape 08-08-2006, 02:21 AM Who composes the UM music, and do any musicians know what kind of drum/rhythm sequencers and keyboard/synthesizers are used?

I personally don't know who composes the music but it was genius....it hit the nail right on the head with the piano and synth and such.
Creepy music....I'd like to own a UM Soundtrack with all the loops ever played on UM on CD. Now that would be cool!
NDAlum2003 08-08-2006, 07:35 PM I have the NBC CD with about 50 different theme songs, and UM is one of them (the classic, extended version).
A CD soundtrack sounds like a great project.
greatgarrett2 08-08-2006, 07:44 PM Yeah, I've downloaded the UM Theme Song and have a couple theme songs on CD. You can download the theme song online.....
NDAlum2003 08-08-2006, 11:21 PM I've got three versions of it here that I downloaded years ago.
JimmyHendricks 08-09-2006, 12:41 AM I've got one of the update themes....I think it's the "first" theme, from 1988 or so.

Yes, from watching UM all these years, I've noticed two or three types of update music.
The first is 'heavy', like the show them song itself, the second has more synth in it or something. I can't demonstrate it here, but there were definetely a few types of update theme music and they ALL scared me when I was a kid. lol
But, I would definetely buy a UM Soundtrack CD with all the loops if they ever came out with one.
Beetlejuice69 08-21-2006, 10:25 PM Just thinking about the music scares the heck out of me!

Lucky you. Paying isn't a problem but I wouldn't know how to get it on my phone. I guess if I really wanted to get it I would.

I'm sorry but what is PSS??
Composite Sketch 08-31-2006, 09:49 PM Pre-Stack Special i.e. the first 3 episodes in 1987 that were hosted by Raymond Burr and Karl Malden.
DALLASTEXAN!! 03-09-2012, 10:12 AM what was you favorite update theme music? I like the update music that was used in the mid 90s. they went with computerized updates later when the shows aired on lifetime and played 2 versions that I remember. I liked them both. keely shaye smith also gave updates with these themes also.
of corse the original update theme music is probably the best.
1990 UM fan 03-09-2012, 01:07 PM I like the update music that played during the 2001-2002 Lifetime era. The update music at the end of the Astarte Davis-Rice update was from around that time but I don't think I've heard it in other updates.
RobinW 03-09-2012, 04:09 PM Someone who wrote a column about Unsolved Mysteries at X-Entertainment perfectly summarized why the original UM update music makes you feel so uneasy: it sounds like it belongs in an old-school 1980s video game where they'll suddenly speed up the music to indicate that you're running out of time to complete your level!
