View Full Version : Teen: I'll Marry Man I Met on MySpace.com

Another crazy MySpace story. The saddest thing about this story to me, is how easily a person can throw their whole Faith out the window, just to be with someone who they've never even met in real life. Not to sound preachy or anything, but in the Christian Faith, you're suppose to put God before everyone and everything. It's pretty sad when you can't even put him before some dude on MySpace. To me, that's the most tragic part of this whole thing. :(

GILFORD, Mich. (AP) - A teenager who flew to the Middle East to be with a man she met on MySpace.com said Friday she intends to marry him.

``I love him very much,'' 17-year-old Katherine Lester said of Abdullah Jimzawi, 20, who works in his father's business delivering goods to West Bank convenience stores.

Lester appeared on ABC-TV's ``Good Morning America'' with her father and stepmother. Jimzawi also spoke with ABC during a taped portion of the segment, describing how the pair ``can't live without each other.''

After hearing what Jimzawi said, Lester began weeping.

``It's true,'' she said. ``I love you. That's all I can say.''

The two first encountered each other about seven months ago on the social networking web site but have never met face to face.

Lester, who turned 17 on Wednesday, was en route to Israel earlier this month when she was intercepted in Jordan by U.S. authorities who seized her passport and put her on a flight back to the United States.

Jimzawi has told The Associated Press that the two planned to marry and that Lester planned to convert to Islam. Lester, a Christian, declined to say Friday whether she intended to convert.

The two have resumed communication online since she returned home.

``Our initial reaction was to isolate her, to lock her up and just keep her safe here in America,'' said her father, Terry Lester. ``But that's unrealistic because you can see the love they have for each other.''

Authorities filed a runaway juvenile petition against Lester earlier this week, and a judge ordered her to give up her passport and undergo counseling. If the judge finds that Lester was a runaway, she could be placed under court supervision until she turns 18.

Wow, that is freaking crazy. Some people are just becoming too dependent on meeting people on the Internet. ohno:

She really had better think about her decision. Correct me if i'm wrong but don't women have very little personal freedoms over there, compared to the U.S. I mean.

i watched the news video on comcast.net about that, and it makes me really mad to know that her parents still let her talk to that guy and don't have a problem with it, even after what she did. my mom stopped me from talking to someone on a message board i really was close to, when nothing even happened, yet that girl glew across the world to meet this man, yet is still allowed to talk to him.

So true. God forbid someone should worship Allah. Too bad she couldn't travel halfway around the world to marry a Christian man she never met before.

You know what, this comment pisses me off and offends me in so many ways, I'm not even going to respond in depth to this bull****. It's not a jab at Islam, I'm offended that a person can throw away her Faith on a guy she's probably known for a year at the most. It's about abandoning your Faith over a guy, that 's what is absolutely sickening. Same way Katie Holmes abandoned her Faith over some pretty boy and his damn cult. Oh I love you God, I love you God, oh wait, there's a cute guy, I don't love you anymore, now I love Allah. **** phony Faith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :puke:

That comment must have really pissed you off, you replied twice.
Islam isn't a cult, I know just because it's not Christianity thats hard to understand.
Maybe her faith wasn't that strong? Not everyone has a strong faith.

Anyhow that girl is 17, so in a year if she wants to move to the West Bank to marry this guy, no one can really stop her.

What are you guys reading??????????? Where and the hell did I say Islam was a cult?? Wasn't even close to what I was saying. Some of you people just read **** that's not even there, I swear, with some of you, it's impossible to make a point because you never understand what a person is really saying. I have nothing but respect for all the true Islamic people out there, and have never said differently.

And yes, it's obvious that this girls Christian Faith may not be very strong. I believe I mentioned that in my last message.

If any of my words seem a little harsh, or offend some people, I apologize, I'm PISSED off today. Especially in regard to the Faith I love, and would die for!!

You are right, that was my fault. You meant Scientology, which I happen to agree with you on. Again, my apologies.

Yeah, Scientology is weird. I tried studying it awhile back to learn more about it, but had to stop after long because it was just too absurd. It amazes me how anyone can believe in that stuff. I mean, the whole cult was started by a Science Fiction writer for crying out loud.

You realize, of course, that the Political Correctness Thought Police will come after you for your bigoted, Eurocentric defamation of a peaceful Third World religion!

I know all about the hazards of MySpace. I learned about a woman from a cyberpal of mine on another message board, and when I looked her up on the 'Net, I found that she was on MySpace. She sounds like a fascinating woman, and I would love to contact her, but on MySpace? As for meeting her in person, that's not going to happen, as she lives on the other end of the country.

i don't think this girl's parents should be letting her talk to that guy, especially since she proved she isn't responsible by flying across the world to see him. why didn't he come over here to see her?

Still in less than a year she'll be 18, and her parents can't legally stop her. What does it matter who goes where? What would the difference be if he came here?

Where did she get the passport to begin with?

I read in the Grand Rapids Press that girl lied to her parents about planning to trip to Canada to visit relatives. I think that was why she had her passport.

Good Lord,

Are they still talking about this incident? Lol.

It happened quite some time ago what's done is done.

But granted that was in poor taste what she did, and I can't believe that her parents are still allowing her to talk to him. But whatever.

That's what I read too. Since when do you need a passport to get into Canada from Michigan or to get back for that matter? I know they have become more cautious since 911 but I've gone to Canada several times over the past few years my most recent visit being just last month to attend a baby shower and have never needed my passport to get out or to come back.

How can you love someone that much of time? And when you just first met? I found that out the hard way. Now I know better just to take my time. Plus I would'nt want that longdistance relationships those are killers. Myspace is getting crazier even though im a member.

That reminds me of an episode of Frasier called Travels With Martin, in which Frasier, Niles, Daphne and Martin all take a trip together in Martin's Winnebago. Whilst Daphne is asleep, they cross the border into Canada, and when Daphne finds out, she is horrified, as she hasn't got her green card yet, and isn't allowed to leave the United States.

They decide that they'll just have to smuggle her back across the border, and if they get pulled over, then Daphne will just have to convince the border guard that she's an American. Unfortunately, the only word that Daphne can say, in an absolutely terrible American accent, is "sure." With Frasier and Niles displaying their nervousness, and Daphne answering all his questions with "sure", the guard soon becomes suspicious, but Martin manages to solve things, buy telling the guard that the reason everyone is behaving so suspiciously is because they don't have a rabies certificate for the job. He makes sure that the guard gets a good view of his police badge (Martin is an ex-cop) and the guard lets them off.

It was a great episode, one of my favourites from season one.

There's one flaw to that story, you don't need a passport to get into Canada. At least not until 2008.

Allah is the Arabic word for God. Much like Dios in Spanish, Gott in German, etc., also means God. Different word, same God. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity all believe in the same God, just in different ways.

I thought a British citizen living in the U.S .could go to Canada because of Canada's membership in the British Commonwealth and its recognition of Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. Guess I was wrong.
