View Full Version : 80s Toys
coily2 05-11-2001, 08:53 AM I thought that this would be a fun topic to start since we have been talking about 80s nostalgia quite a bit lately.
What was your favorite toy of the 80s? There were so many old toys I had then that I don't think they make anymore. My faves were:
- My original Star Wars toys (OK, late 70s, but close enough)
- My sit and spin that I was saving forever and ever since I loved it so but my stupid brother sold it to one of these yuppie toys of yesteryear stores for $5. Sorry, just a little bitter about that one!
- Strawberry Shortcake dolls
- My Little Pony
- As a tomboy, I had a few kewl boy toys too, like my Stomper Truck collection
- I had alot of He-Man Action Figures
- My A-Team punching bag
- And I was probably a little old to be collecting these when they came out, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I had several shoeboxes full of Garbage Pail Kids.
sambino5 05-11-2001, 10:44 AM Cabbage Patch Kids and kid sister I had all kinds of toys but those two was my favorite toya of all times.

Some of my favorite toys were:
-Cabbage Patch Kids
-My Little Pony
-Strawberry Shortcake kids. I loved Strawberry Shortcake. I had all the dolls, sheets, a bike and I was even Strawberry Shortcake for Halloween.
-Pound Puppies
-Care Bears
-Fischer Price record player (I kept it and it still works after all those years of use!)
-Legos, but I didn’t have very many so I was always jealous of the boy next door who had a huge collection.
coily2: I wish I still had my sit and spin too. My sister and I used to both get on it at the same time and spin as fast as we could to try to make each other fall off. A classic.
LaverneShirley 05-11-2001, 08:17 PM Well, I grew up in the 90's, but I had a lot of hand-me-downs from my sister, who was born in '83.
-Quints (Possibly 90s, I dunno, I just know I loved 'em to death!)
-The Strawberry Shortcake matching game where you spin the spinny thing and get a card with a Strawberry Shortcake character... anyone know what I'm talkin' about?
-My Little Ponies
-My Fisher Price record player
-My Snoopy slushi maker (I think that was 90s)
-Any McDonalds toys. I loved those plastic Barbie doll toys. They were the coolest.
------------------
Shirley: Well, Laverne is sort of childish
Laverne: Childish? Childish? Coming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat?
Shirley: At least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!
Laverne: Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!
Michael: At what time was I born, Mother?
Mrs. Darling: Why, you were born at two o'clock in the nighttime, Dearest
Michael: Oh Mother, I hope I didn't wake you!
Cokies 05-12-2001, 12:17 AM Garbage Pail Kids. Nuff' said.

In loving memory of Mrs. Delia Gray...
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phillipians 4:13
"For the Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations." Psalms 100:5
"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17

Jinny:"Oh, they always call. They want to know me, they want to be a part of my life. They want to share."
Magda: "But if they didn't? "
Jinny: I would breathe a great big sigh of relief unless of course I liked him then i would just hunt him down and slash his tires.

I know what you're talking about. I had that game. The little character cards fit in the spinner and you used a little strawberry to try and stop the spinner on the character you wanted. I completely forgot about that game until just now.
Lesliem - I bet we had the same strawberry shortcake bike.
MARFAR104 06-29-2001, 06:17 PM I WAS A MOM IN THE 80'S. MY SON HAD A LOT OF TRANDFORMER'S. ALSO A LOT OF THE DUKE'S OF HAZZARD STUFF AND ALL THE WWF TOYS!MY DAUGHTER HAD BARBIE'S, OF COURSE.
Bootsy Whoosh 06-29-2001, 07:35 PM My faves were: (in vague order of most favorite to least)
1.) My Little Ponies
2.) Transformers (more than meets the eye!)
3.) Pound Puppies
4.) Lite Brite
5.) Hot Wheels cars (I also had those cool little cities they could drive around)
6.) Hungry Hungry Hippoes
7.) A train set I had, which was contained in one of those little portable things like the Hot Wheels cities were.
8.) I had ALF trading cards that I absolutely LOVED, and I have no idea where they went! I have almost everything from my childhood in my house, but that is the one thing I cannot find! I must have lost them.
9.) A Smurf board game we had, you stuck these cards into this big Smurf in the middle, then you would touch him and he'd spin around and spit a card out at you.
10.) Legos
11.) McDonald's Toys (where many of my Legos came from!)
12.) I can't remember it's name, but it was this oven thing, and you had these wire frames of things like animals or rainbows, and you filled them with these little pieces of plastic, then you cooked them in the oven, and you had a suncatcher. Does anyone know what this was called?
13.) Care Bears
14.) This Ghostbusters gun thingy I had.
15.) Cabbage Patch Kids
16.) A Nightrider car and track I had. The car talked, plus it could ride up the side of walls on its track.
17.) My remote-controlled Moster Truck (which my Dad also loved, and it was fun to chase my dog around with it)
18.) This battery operated train engine I had that made a really loud whistle, also fun to bother my dog with. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
That's all I can think of for now.

The Green rectangle thing was called Gumby. I don't remember the horse's name.
Madness 06-30-2001, 12:42 AM There were so many, the ones I can think of are anything WWF, like Thumb Wrestlers and Wrestling Buddies. And I'd have to go with Teddy Ruxpin and My Buddy also.
