I thought this ought to be a fun thread. Why don't we post photos of the best touristy attractions from our cities.

I will start first....

Today was the first time I actually rode on our world-famous tram, The Sandia Peak (http://www.sandiapeak.com/), and I have lived in my city ALL my life! :lol: It's claimed to be the world's longest tram, and its highest elevation point up on our east mountains (the Sandia mountains) is about 10,375 feet high. During our ski season, it's one of our most-popular ski resorts as well with beautiful blankets of snow.

Altogether, it was about a 15-minute ride each way going up and going down. The tram car traveled on cable wires at about 13mph of speed. It stopped at the top of the Sandia mountains where we got off and walked around. Then we made it back down at the foot of the mountains to the loading dock area.

Anyway.... here are some photos I took with my digital camera. I am amazed they came out so clear considering there was no light bounce-back from the glass reflections of the windows.

Well... here they are! If anyone is ever around Albuquerque and want to check them out, it would be cool to show you the tram in person!!! It's only $15 per person, so it's not a bad deal. :D

a revolutinary war battlefield is here because apparently a battle of it was fought here. i think it was a minor one, but yeahh :lol:

We don't really have tourist attractions. We have a jail that I've heard people have taken road trips to see because it's where they used to film Prison Break. But other than that, there's not much going on here.

But if you go 45 minutes north, there's Chicago, which is tourist central.

Well we've got the Texas Rangers Baseball team, and Six Flags over Texas. Pretty soon we'll also have the Dallas Cowboys.

Just a few minutes from my house there's the Battleship Texas (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/battleship_texas/) and the San Jacinto Monument (http://www.sanjacinto-museum.org/). We used to have Astroworld (http://www.sixflagshouston.com/), but they closed it down last October. There are many other tourist attractions in Houston, though. :)

For me, the Verrazano Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge.

I've got the Space and Rocket center 45 minutes away from me in Huntsville, then there's the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in Muscle Shoals, which is about 15 minutes from me. In my actual city though there are a few civil war battle sites and a civil war cemetary, but other than that just a lot of cow pastures, LOL. :p

yay! That was fun :) If you go here at www.lioddities.com you can see all the other weird and even haunted Long Island places (ranging from abandoned house, to graveyards, to haunted insane asylums).

The closest tourist attraction to where I live would have to be Chicago. :lol:

well I live in a very small town that really doesn't have any tourist attractions well we do have a war satute, but that's the only thing tourist like in my town but I live about a hour away from Memorial Stadium (Nebraska Cornhuskers), and about an hour and a half away from The SAC Museum (Air & Space), and 2 hours away from the Henry Doorly Zoo. I also live about 45 Minutes from the Stuhr Museum thats where they filmed the first two Sara Plain and Tall movies and also 45 minutes from Hastings the hometown that started Kool Aid, 1 and a half hours from The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument also in the Western part of the state there is Chimney Rock and Jail Hoiuse rock and even someone made like stonehenge instead they made car Hen\ge.

My town sucks(population about 6,500). You only come through here if your travelling back and forth to the beach(4-lane U.S. Highway). :rolleyes: I'm midway between Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA.

My town isn't really a tourist attraction unless you are into agriculture. We ahve a famous ranch here. Other then that I'm about an hour away from the Texas State Aquarium, the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay, and a couple of house from Schlitterbahn anyway I turn. And of course there is Padre Island.

Where I live we have tons of things. Lots of Civil War battle fields. George Washingtons boyhood home. George Washington's mother and sister's houses.

A bit of an old thread, but I have been meaning to make mention of it. I am cleaning out my email notification replies that are stored in my email box, so I am looking through the saved emails I have had these past months.

If any of the SO frequenters are travelling in New Mexico, let me know. Yes, I mentioned frequenters because I am getting to know those who visit often. Newer people I'd have to get to know since you are basically strangers to me. I don't mean it as rude, but more like in security issues until I get to know people some more. So, I'd love to show you frequenters around. :)

Ohhhh.....I was actually lightly planning on a trip to Toronto during the summer of 2004. One of the places the group I wanted to go with went was at the CN Tower. I wanted to check that out soooo much. It looks soooo nice. One day I will see it and the glass floor and restaurant.

Actually, where I live now there's a couple. I'm in Harrisburg, PA (yawn), but we are right next to Hershey!

A real somber tourist attraction, the memorial for the Alaskan Airlines flight that crashed off our coast five years ago. The beach is Port Hueneme beach, one of our great looking beaches:

Same here...the beach, the beaches, and the beaches! I love where we live, it's the perfect spot. We don't have snow. But if we want snow all we have to do is drive 45 minutes north to the mountains. Or go 45 minutes south and go to Hollywood, Los Angeles, basically THE CITY! Or drive in another direction and go to the desert or drive in another direction to Santa Barbara. We don't have hurricanes, we don't have tornados, we don't have snowstorms and have to deal with friggin' winter stuff like shoveling snow, walking in snow, having to stay indoors because of snow, etc. We can go visit the snow and get back and go to the beach! All we bitch abt is HOW HOT IT IS or HOW COLD IT IS (which is usually abt 55 degrees when we start complaining).:lol:

The glass floor can be a terrifying experience for somebody afraid of heights, I remember seeing little kids jumping on it and thinking to myself these kids are nuts.

There is actually a lot more to do up here, but this was the only picture I found of my city as far as something to do. This is located south of our Downtown.

OK, I have a few pics! (not taken by me but just found on google picture search). The only thing in my actual hometown (West Allis, WI) is the Pettit National Ice Center and State Fair Park. In the whole Milwaukee area there's lots more like Miller Park, Pabst Mansion, Summerfest grounds, Milwaukee Art Museum, Miller Brewing Company, Sprecher Brewing Company, Potowatami Casino, Pabst Theatre, Riverside Theatre, the lakefront, Milwaukee Theatre, US Cellular Arean, Bradley Center, Milwaukee County Zoo, etc. etc.

Within the next couple of years they are going to have some pretty cool plays/musicals in Toronto which I am excited to see like Dirty Dancing, 12 angry men, Sweeney Todd, We will Rock You (Queen), and The Phantom of the Opera.

They've had Phantom playing in Toronto as long as I can remember! :lol: We Will Rock You was a good musical - it had just opened when I was in London, and unfortunately didn't seem to be packing in that many seats. But the soundtrack is wonderful. I didn't know they're reviving Sweeney Todd - now that I envy! Did you know Tim Burton's making a movie of that?

I am thinking of surprising my mom on her birthday with tickets to the show. I know the show is two and a half hours but I was looking at prices online and they are quite expensive. But I will spend the money if the show is worth seeing.

Let's see... I think there are a few interesting things to see here in Los Angeles. We have Venice Beach , the Malibu nude beach, the infamous Hollywood and Sunset Blvd. We have six flags, every kind of museum you can think of. Also, I'm not sure if it's a tourist attraction, but we have the Beverly Center. Its a mall in Beverly Hills that's really known for having all the stars shop there. We have all those movie studio, u know Warner Bros., Paramount,the man chinese theater etc. What else..., the la zoo... and I think thats about it.

This was before the movie came out, so I didn't have anything to compare it with then. But I was just disappointed with the special effects in the stage show (the chandelier "crash" being the main one), and that's why I said I prefered the movie. (It's also MUCH cheaper!) But the show's wonderful - make no mistake!

Personally, I prefer to spend the big bucks on the shows that haven't been made into movies, cuz when else are you gonna see it? I do love the theatres. It's my favorite thing to do when I travel. And Toronto was definately one of the best :wave:

Yeah, I wanna see Venice Beach soooo much!!! I heard about weird things people do to provide general entertainment such as people juggling saws and stuff. That sounds pretty wicked! When I was around Huntington, Beach on July 2002, I wanted to go, but it would be too far up north for us to take a half day trip and see it. There were just too many other things to do that we couldn't fit it in. :( Well, maybe one day.

Ok, thanks for your opinion. Now I am definitely going to seach for and order the tickets for the show tomorrow. Hopefully I can get a good price and good seats for an April showing.

You are lucky and I envy you for being able to watch the show in London. That must have been a great experience. :)
