How do you guys feel about music in stores and restaurants?

Personally, I don't like hearing loud, obnoxious music blaring over the speakers while I'm trying to shop or eat and I refuse to patronize any place of business that feels the need to force their tastes in music onto their customers. Of course, I find that stores that play a lot of that rap, hip hop, and current pop that gives me huge migraines are generally stores that don't sell anything of interest to me anyway.

I hate it. It can ruin my entire shopping or dining experience. I won't go to a restaurant near us, The Texas Roadhouse, because the music is too loud.

As for retail stores, I've noticed the music is blaring a lot when the young staff is there alone.

Depends on what they're playing or how loud they're playing it

I really don't like it when the music is blasting at a bar. I honsetly don't see how people can have a conversation when you have to shout every word.

I worked at Hollister..if you've ever been in there you know what i'm talking about with the loud music. its a company policy. by the end of the day i literally wanted to rip my ears off. prob the most stressful part of the job.

I enjoy hearing happy pop tunes while I'm shopping or eating out, as long as it isn't blaringly loud. I normally find myself singing along or even dancing to the music (what a dweeb!!!) I definitely don't like hearing twangy country music or heavy metal while shopping or eating, however...

I love the Texas Roadhouse. I don't get there to often but I love their food. It does get a bit loud in there but the food is worth it.

I've NEVER understood the point of that either, just annoying.

I've been in that store ONE time and it was almost too much. Do they try to run people out of the store with the loud music? That doesn't make a lot of sense. But yeah, their music is incredibly loud.

They're trying to attract the clubheads(hence the lighting), the trendy teens are their target market. when i shop in there i dont mind it, they play good music, but 8 hours on register and floor with it is too much.

I read an article about this. Some restaurants do it on purpose, by cranking up the music or the air conditioner customers will eat and leave. No sitting around and using up space. Come in, eat and leave. Next.

I also find it very annoying when the music is on TOO loudly. I like to be able to have a conversation without shouting or without feeling I am missing out when people talk.

If it is music I like then they can play it as loud as they want.

Depends on the music, but for the most part I don't like EXTREMELY loud music playing no matter what it is. It's just a bit more pleasurable if it's good music.

It depends on the music, if it's something i enjoy like Dean Martin, Doris Day or some of the other goodies but oldies. Blast away I don't mind. But if it's something i don't like i wish they'd make it really soft so i don't have to hear it.

I usually don't like it but at Famous Dave's the music is very loud in which I don't mind because it is all Blues and R&B.

It just depends on the genre of music.

If it's blaring, then I sometimes mind, unless it's a good song. Restaurants though...I dunno, sometimes silence is just more appropriate. Sometimes with all the people talking, it's loud enough as it is.

Do that too much and they may not come in at all.

 I went into my favorite country bar once, and they were playing Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne heavy metal music in there. You could still tell it was a country/western bar because of all the beer signs and cowboy-style decorations in it, plus the typical pool tables/shuffleboard tables and the dust on the floor. Really rustic looking, yet they were playing heavy metal music by Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne.

I find Best Buy and Wal-Mart both to be bad about loud music. Which is another reason I prefer Meijer and Circuit City.

I don't really mind loud music of any genre. As long as it's comfortable loud or not splitting your eardrums loud.

I cannot stand loud music in restaurants, especially if it's heavy metal music. Ditto with sports stadia, which have played the likes of AC/DC puke: over the loudspeakers--I mean, how can families with young kids handle that? I'll take Britney or Ashlee any day!

It depends. I don't mind it as background music. I still want to be able to talk to my friends across the table and not have to strain to hear them.
