View Full Version : Nightmares
Babydollz24 05-22-2006, 12:39 AM Hey I wanted to know if anyone would like to share any nightmares that they experienced as a result of watching "Unsolved Mysteries". I will share one that I had as a child. As I have probably said before, this show scared me as a kid, but for some reason I was drawn to it. No matter how scared I got,I continued to watch it. One episode in particular that gave me a nightmare was the ghost episode where there was a boy in the house and he hears voices or loud noises. Terrified, He runs out of the house and turns around to see a face in the window! Well, I had a dream that I was on my way to school one morning and I heard laughing... and no one else was in the house. I rush out the door, and turn around and there is a face in my bedroom window!! That episode gave me the creeps, and caused a nightmare I will never forget! I want to know what nightmares you guys had as a result of this show!
wiseguy182 05-22-2006, 03:58 AM Babydollz24, I too was strangely drawn to the series when I was a kid, even though it scared the tar out of me. I remember tuning in every week, getting scared and thinking to myself "I'm never gonna watch this program again.", but sure enough would tune in the following week. That and Rescue 911, which also debuted in the late '80's. Rescue 911 used to get to me to, but that show only ended up staying on for a few years. Too many nightmares to mention:eek:
UMLongtimefan 05-24-2006, 10:12 PM Rescue911 with SHAT!!!
The thing about 911 was all the stories as I recall always had a happy ending.. but I remember a story about the kid in Arkansas who had a severe asthma attack while playing football.. that one scared the bejeebers out of me because I was playing football and I was defensive linemen just like him!
Shat's narration..was :: pregnant pause for dramatic effect :: classic
UM on the other hand...there are still some killers/ghost/ufo aliens/bigfoot and chupucabras on the loose out there and you never know when they might get you!
Beetlejuice69 05-26-2006, 07:45 PM That was one of the best, scariest episodes of all time. I haven't seen it in 12 years and thinking about it still creeps me out. The face looking out the window was the worst part.

Babydollz24 05-27-2006, 09:22 PM You guys wanna hear something funny? I userd to watch Rescue 911 as well, and I thought that William Shatner and Robert Stack were the same person!!! I used to watch both shows all the time and remember thinking, Hey that Star Trek guy hosts both my favorite shows!!!
SitcomsAreTheWay 05-30-2006, 08:00 PM No, I haven't had any nightmares. Not yet anyway. Robert Stack's voice and Peter Thomas's voice are two of my favorites of all time.
GoldenGirlsFan92 05-30-2006, 08:40 PM I haven't had any.
ranion 05-30-2006, 10:49 PM I'm sure I had some, but its been such a long time I can't remember. I do remember that UM fell on the same night that I had to take the garbage out. I'd race the barrel down the drive-way as quickly as I could after being terrified by the show. On particularly bad weeks, I'd have to take out two garbage cans. It probably would have been wiser to handle all that before UM instead of after :)
Goofyman 05-30-2006, 11:51 PM I don't have nightmares. I have daymares. I'm naturally paranoid, so watching this show screws me up majorly. I have trouble walking through my house without turning and shouting, "You guys better just leave or I'll kill you." and such. I can't wash shampoo out of my hair in a shower all at once typically because I have to stop, wipe my eyes, and make sure no one is waiting to kill me. I have horrible visions in my head about all sorts of paranoid things. It's impossible to avoid it. It controls my life when I am alone.
In general, I can't sit facing away from the majority of a room when I'm alone or else I'll have horrible visions of...just...nightmareish things.
*sigh* But it's so awesome, UM is...
wiseguy182 05-31-2006, 06:52 AM Ranion, this is so weird: I know exactly what you're talking about regarding hurrying up to take out the trash cans after UM, I used to find myself doing it several times myself too!
RightOnDude 05-31-2006, 08:34 AM Man, you might want to talk to a professional about these things. I'm no Tom Cruise, but I think a shrink might be able to help you with some of these thoughts. That is unless this kind of paranoia is not a hinderance to your daily life.

Goofyman 05-31-2006, 05:15 PM Well, I wrote that yesterday. Yesterday was a pretty bad day for that whole paranoia thing. It doesn't really control my life too bad, but at night it's just like you guys, doing things fast. Like, running to put trash and running back. I was alone during the day and it had an effect on me, but I think I'm alright today and in general. *shrug*
Babydollz24 05-31-2006, 06:43 PM OMG, goofyman, I can be the same way at times. I swear when you were talking about washing your hair and having to wipe your eyes, I was like " Thats me"! Ok, I am not mega paranoid or anything, but if I watch Unsolved Mysteries and then go take a shower, then yeah I am gonna be a little on edge, especially if I am alone in the house. And I almost always hear noises. Also, when I am showering, and alone in the house, I sometimes peek every so often out of the shower curtain expecting to see one of those creepy composite sketch people waiting for me behind it!!!
siamesemeg 05-31-2006, 07:21 PM Sometimes, when I'm about to fall asleep at night, I'll suddenly see that horrible polaroid of the girl who might be Tara Calico, and forget it - I'm up for hours.
A sort of semi-waking nightmare.
gilligan fanatic 05-31-2006, 07:25 PM my parents had it on in 94' or something and I would have been 6 at the time. There was one about some guy who fell from his window and they thought someone pushed him so for along time I was afraid to go by windows. I had a ton of nightmares about falling to my death. Still creeps me out 12 years latter.
passionsfan79 06-03-2006, 01:56 PM I've never had really any Nightmares conncering Unsolved Mysteries episodes. But most of the Ghost episode got me scared though that I had to leave a light on to sleep but I don't recal having any Nightmares though

passionsfan79 06-05-2006, 09:55 PM LOL
wiseguy182 06-15-2006, 03:16 AM Okay, I just did something a little stupid: I took the trash out at 1 a.m. after watching 3 hours of Unsolved mysteries segments: D'oh!. I've got to get in the habit of taking it out earlier.
LooksLikeCRicci 06-15-2006, 05:44 PM I have the same habit. I'll watch marathon episodes of UM and then get up to do something... and I'll look around my apartment and have to make sure the doors are locked and the blinds are closed. Curse the show for being so wonderfully creepy!
Not A News Broadcast 08-11-2006, 08:30 AM Yeah, if I had to stay up late to study or somethin I would just pop in the "Look at it Omar" fire episode and that would do it.Unsolved Mysteries was my No-Doze back in the day.Hell...still is LOL.
SpecialEd 08-12-2006, 01:50 PM When I was 7 or 8 or maybe 9 I saw the Missing Time segment and from that time on I was scared of aliens coming to get me in my sleep. Ashamedly I feared this until I was well into high school. When I saw the segment again on the DVD set it was a lot less scary than I remembered it being.
There are some UM's I won't watch before going to sleep or alone at night like the Ghost stories. They just set the mood too creepy for comfort.
Stack 08-16-2006, 06:07 PM I can't recall any nightmares off the top of my head (I know I've had UM-related ones though), but when I first started reading this site several months ago, I happened to be reading at night and totally freaked myself out reading some of the updates to cases...mostly those where it turned out people that were missing were found murdered, some of the cases dealing with random circumstance and so on. Anywho, being that it was winter break and I was home, I went out to the living room to talk to my mom (also a UM viewer back in the day) to get my mind back in the right place. Instead of calming me down, she ended up telling me about all of the freaky, random crimes against people that had happened in our old neighborhood around the time I was born. Way to go, mom.
I've since learned to read certain posts during the day or with others present lol.
SiberianKiss 08-16-2006, 07:55 PM I had a UM dream but it wasn't a nightmare it was AWESOME! It had to do with the hole in the ground gang, the robbers who dug their way into vaults. In my dream I was helping them, and I was quite sad to have woken up :(
I'm obsessed with the Hole in the ground gang, I'm so going to find them.
MsCooper 08-26-2006, 01:43 AM I was bored tonight and thought this site might be interesting. I read all of the posts and really got a chuckle going. I was remembering my children now ages 46 and 44 - the nightmares they used to have from watching a movie or show. Thanks for the memories guys - I had forgot what it is like to be around young ladies and gentlemen and the impressions that are made on such young eager minds.
In my day we didn't have television - just radio. I used to listen to "The Shadow" and how I looked forward to it... Ask your grandmother or parents about the Shadow?
New Brandon 08-26-2006, 09:49 PM I dunno about nightmares, but I do know I get a little freaked like other people... Most cases are fine... when the husband did it or one of those kind of cases, it's okay... but when it's a predator or an abduction case, that can be a little more creepy.
I know a lot of the other true crime shows don't have any effect on me, like Cold Case Files or American Justice -- maybe because there's no re-enactment and the focus is different -- but when I watch Unsolved Mysteries late at night, it can sometimes get scary.
Okay, I just did something a little stupid: I took the trash out at 1 a.m. after watching 3 hours of Unsolved mysteries segments: D'oh!. I've got to get in the habit of taking it out earlier.
I know that feeling only too well...
