Looks like they're trying to make it into a starbucks. can you imagine all the grease and ketchup that'll be all over those chairs?
stella 05-12-2006, 05:14 PM Since it's the setting that is changing, and not the food, McDonald's may not run into the fiasco experienced by Coca-Cola when they introduced New Coke in 1985.
Dutabi84 05-12-2006, 06:14 PM They need to makeover the menu before they makeover the furniture.
Chad Michael Murray 05-12-2006, 06:45 PM This just doesn't seem right. I dunno, it doesn't feel like McDonald's at all.
EmoJoe 05-12-2006, 08:47 PM ^yeah :(
MsOrange 05-12-2006, 09:00 PM well, that seems a bit unneccsary...
moeee 05-12-2006, 10:03 PM looks ok i guess.
dawsongirl 05-12-2006, 10:11 PM I'd feel weird eating a coke and fries in a place like that. It's too formal for crappy food.
Looks like a cool place to eat...but not as a McDonald's.

 my thoughts exactly.
Chad Michael Murray 05-12-2006, 10:48 PM It just doesn't seem natural.
I hate when people decide they need to update things that really don't need to be updated. I have memories of going to McDonald's all my life, and it always looked the same way...now, it's going to be all modernized, and for what? The general consensus at this board, which I'm sure is a pretty good representation of the general population, is that this SUCKS!
I just really hate change sometimes.
Hollow 05-13-2006, 12:29 AM hah, i was at mcdonald's a few minutes ago and was wondering when and why they changed it so much. it had the stools and all.

I remember going into a McDonald's that I went to a lot as a kid (even had a birthday party there) a few years ago, and it had changed a lot, and I was actually kind of sad.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Places like McDonald's and stuff actually hold quite a few memories for me.
Like I remember when I was a young kid, whenever a new Disney movie would come out or whenever they were re-releasing an older classic in the theaters like they used to with Pinocchio, etc. that my Grandpa would take me in the afternoon to see it one weekend, and usually before that or sometimes after we'd stop at McDonald's, and 99% of the time when a Disney movie was out then McDonald's would have the toys to tie in with the movie.
I actually haven't thought about that for a long time, until this thread. It's weird what random things can bring out of your memory sometimes.
James 05-13-2006, 02:05 AM In late January I went to the location in Beavercreek (east of Dayton) across from Wright State University, and they had hanging mood lights as is described in the seventh picture (which reminded me of Quizno's and Boston Market--owned by the Golden Arches, by the way!) on the website mentioned, while the fluorescent lights that were traditionally part of the ceiling with "cross-Ts" (for lack of a better term) were out.
I don't mind the changes too much, but my regular quarter pounder extra value meal had less fries than last time. ohno:
80sTrivia 05-13-2006, 09:09 AM The new look isn't exactly "kid friendly", and let's face it, the youth market has always been McDonalds true cache...
SBTB Geek 05-14-2006, 01:42 AM ^I'm sure this isn't going to be all McDonald's locations. This will most likely occur at McD's in downtown areas, near college campuses, etc. There is a two story McD's not far from where I live, and it was supposed to be more of a "lounge" hangout but over the years (it opened in 1992) it has lost its appeal. I'm sure it's a top contender for a makeover.
Janice 05-14-2006, 12:49 PM McDonald's had better give some serious thought to demographics when deciding which golden arches to do over. I can see those sofas being ruined by a couple of brats...I mean little darlings. ;)
Zebra 3 05-14-2006, 01:45 PM Regardless of the latest marketing gimmick it's still McOuthouse.
stella 05-14-2006, 02:51 PM All this talk about changes to McDonald's reminds me of a possible good debate topic that I wanted to bring up for quite a while:
Who should be credited as the founder of McDonald's: Brothers Dick and Mac McDonald, or Ray Kroc?
Although it was Dick and Mac who founded the original few restaurants and hwo also created several of the original menu items, it seems like Ray Kroc is often credited as the founder even though he didn't create the original and instead, the bought the McDonald brothers out and with his good marketing skills, expanded the chain of franchises. I guess that shows that creating a new product is one thing, but marketing the product is what gives you fame. Perhaps these changes are what McDonald's deem is necessary to keep up with this changing world.

i've seen ones like those...they're pretty cool.
stella 05-14-2006, 08:04 PM At least they have the name.
I suppose you have a point. McDonald's sounds better as a fast-food restaurant name than "Kroc's".
