It always bothered me how the kids had no money problems when both the James and Florida characters left the show. A perfect example of this is the beginning of season 5 in "The Evans get Involved" and Thelma and JJ had nice professional looking costumes for the carnival. How the heck could they afford such extravagant costumes. If Flo and James were around, they would have to wear something that Florida made them.

I recall mentioning something similar a while back. Notice no more oatmeal? it was pancakes!!!!! Thelma made a ROAST when Keith came over for dinner. They had better clothes. They had more things in the apartment: carpet, knick-knacks, plants, shelves, etc.

Maybe they rented the costumes or they were provided for them by the carnival, but you know TV, not always very accurate, lol. They probably were bringing in more money, but with no parents around, they were probably wasting it. When you're young, and you start making money, you start spending more, especially when no one is around to advise you to save it.

Didn't Michael say he had a few jobs. I know he said he got a part time job a few times. I think he said he was tutoring people too. They really should have put money in the bank.

What got to me was in the finale, they all seemed to make it out of the ghetto (so I've heard, I've never seen the episode). It's kind of sad that once James dies, then his family makes it.

James was too proud to let anyone in his family work, besides himself. And he seemed to have trouble getting and holding onto jobs. I guess, with him gone, the rest of the family pulled together and got jobs. Once Florida left, who knows, maybe she'd send them checks. Plus the kids must have worked.

So I guess. I haven't seen many of the episodes. I'm waiting for the final season to come out on DVD. Then I'll watch them all in order.

Why???? Because, if she would have taken it she wouldn't have been able to pay the rent, And she had morals.

If all of them was working, they all couldve pitch in and help pay the rent.

But like you said, she had her morals. some i agree, some i dont.

For example, when Florida made James give the money back. I dont agree with that.

Well Florida wouldn't have been paying the rent, it would have been Raymond since it was a very expensive apartment which is why she said no because only a fool would live in an apt and have someone pay the rent who is a gambler who could lose all his money

Besides, it was only a 1 year lease. What the hell were they supposed to do after a year? That was just dumb. He would have been better off giving them money or an expense account, or buying them new clothes or something.

I always assumed that they got by with JJ working full-time at the ad agency, Michael doing odd jobs after school, and maybe Florida sent them money from Arizona. Who knows?

One thing I think we can all agree on: continuity was NOT this show's strong point.  :o

One Continuity that was good J.J being hired by a Ad Agency at the end of the season 4 and he was working at the Ad Agency in the beginning of Season 5
