View Full Version : Who are the premier lurkers on this board?

Just look at the views in relation to posts. Normally at least a 10/1 ratio and usually closer to 20/1, if not much higher. Sometimes approaching 50 or 60/1.

That's remarkable no-opinion. Big league hesitant. When I log in late at night Pacific time, very frequently I'll see the views column of a thread ping pong by 20 or 30 or more in a short period, without any change to the number of replies.

Even if your opinion is mostly mediocre and coupled with a bizarre user name, let's hear from some of you, even if it's only to wish crystaldawn her latest Happy Birthday

The water is fine. I won't bite, unless you disregard the Richard McCoy connection.

Don't you find it ironic Awsi that you're asking these lurkers to come forward and post to this thread when if I'm not mistaken the definition of a lurker is someone who reads but doesn't post. Just thought I'd point that out.

A few comments though, I too noticed how many views threads have. I guess I never really thought about it being low compared to how many posts the thread has so its a good observation on your part. Also don't forget sometimes the views are from those of us who have posted to a thread and someone posts on it as well and we get email notification (if you have it set up to do that) so we go back and check out what the latest person has posted.

I think we'd be suprised how many people out there read our board who aren't members. When I made my UM dvd available a number of people joined up and sent me a pm me to ask for a copy. Some of them even said they had been reading our board for years and just now joined up. Its always nice to see new people join up and post. :)

I will admit I was one of these so-called "lurkers" for years, but I'm now up to about 35 posts and counting after joining the boards on April 11, 2006. I guess the reason I didn't sign up earlier was because I was worried my posts/opinions would get totally bashed, and I've seen it happen on other boards and in real life. Thankfully though, I haven't run into that here.:talk:

To tell you the truth, when I logged on today after this thread had been here half a day or more, I was sort of disappointed there were 7 replies. It would have been hysterical if there were 100 views and zero replies.

Great stuff, Michelle. That's just the type of reply I was looking for when I brain(?)stormed this thread. Plus you're in my original home town of Miami.

Hi Longtime Visitor/lurker,

Just posting and giving an opinion or two.

Thanks to everyone for their tips on the Best of DVD's I appreciate the heads up, while I don't mind watching the treasure/ghost/miracle/ufo segements on TV I'm not that anxious to ad them to my dvd collection.

Still love the Bizzare Murder set, I got the creeps watching it the other night and had to check my door locks!:o

I do hope they come out with complete season dvds.. .if only one can dream...

Thanks Everyone for your kindness and warmth in posting here, reading this board is a lot of fun (and dare I say informative!) I'll try to post more frequently.

Thanks for the welcome!! Well you guys inspired me to come out of lurker mode lol. I actually live in Kendall right off 88th street so I'm around the area you used to live in. I'm originally from NY so I've actually started to enjoy living in Miami =D I'll have to post a picture of my cat...he looks mysterious enough to be named by the host of UM =D

Welcome again Michelle.

Let's see, Kendall and 88th Street, otherwise known as Kendall Drive. Yeah, I'm semi-familiar with that area. Where's that sarcasm smilie that crystaldawn always uses? Lately I'm always at Kendall Ale House when visiting, since it's mom's favorite. If you're from New York you might be familiar with the restaurant New York New York, further west on Kendall Drive and with plenty of New York-themed pictures, including the layout of the subway system just inside the front entrance. The golf course where I see OJ Simpson, Calusa Country Club, is just off Kendall Drive.

One problem: it used to take me maybe 10 minutes to drive from my parents' house to Kendall Drive. Now I spend that much time on Miller Road alone.

My favorite eatery is Shorty's Barbeque on Dixie Highway, always worth the trip regardless of drive time.

Don't worry, I admit I'm guilty of lurking sometimes. If I don't know much about the case being presented, I prefer to read and find out.

I've been "lurking" since about January and finally signed up a couple of weeks ago. I found the site trying to find UM updates, since Lifetime has all but given up on them. I've definately enjoyed reading the updates as well as people's opinions on the cases. But when it comes to posting, unless I feel I have something I just have to comment on, or something meaningful to contribute, I prefer to lurk. Wierd but eh, my pref. :)

OK, appreciation and all, but right now we need a bit more lurking and less posting. The current view/post ratio of this thread is slightly less than 12/1, a bit lower than typical. You might try one of the neglected DB Cooper threads.

I don't think thats weird at all. I sometimes check out the other message boards on SO but almost never post to them. However we are glad you posted and welcome to the board! :)

I must say Awsi that you're slipping. With all this cheerleading about lurkers you must be unaware that we now have a lurking smiley face that would have went perfect with your initial post. Better late than never though:

I posted a lot last summer, I remember recording every episode of UM that came on Lifetime during that time in hopes to transfer them from the DVR to my PC so I could submit them to Echoes of Fear's UM website. Sadly, I was never able to figure out how to transfer the audio, though I was able to get the video to go to my PC. Then, to top it off, we moved and got a brand new DVR, thus ending that saga. I stopped watching UM beause it flares my paranoia to an amazing degree (I would literally walk through my house at night turning constantly and muttering under my breath for RS to stop following me (*cough*)), but I recently recorded an episode for some reason and watched it. I remembered immediately why I loved to watch the show, and of course I got a brand new freaky face to have grained into my head. The views just kept getting better the evening afterwards when I got a great sketch to keep me paranoid. Then just today on the afternoon show I was freaked out by the strange picture of that grandmother.

Oh well, I miss EoF's site and I'd love to get a huge collection of UM segments or perhaps episodes together on the internet for everyone to access, but I'm not sure it is even legal and I still would be unable to transfer the files.

Ah well.

I've been a member for a year...I don't post often because I usually don't have much to add. Most often I'm here when watching UM to see if there's an update or a spelling of someone's name to google.

Slip out of lurk mode? Hmmm...is it possible?;)

Well I would certainly hope that Wiseguy's opinions aren't being bashed as you know that isn't tolerated of anyone on here. In everything I've seen wiseguy is very tolerant of everyone's views and tries his best not to get into any mud slinging when someone doesn't agree with him. Actually we need a fresh supply of mud. Other than the evicted DB Cooper threads and Jeffrey MacDonald, which has mostly run its course, I don't have enough to squawk about.

Maybe some of these lurkers can stir something up. :D

Nobody bashed wiseguy. SiberianKiss likes bank robbers and I like that newly-discovered bash smilie. It busted me up last night when I decided to revive this thread and noticed wiseguy's concern about bashing from a year ago. I might have been more restrained a few days ago if I'd remembered that.

Nah. :bash: :bash:

To me that's one of my teams putting the hammer down when the wimpy pass-oriented or three-point reliant opponent threatens to revive. That's all it means. I've never used it in a barney.

 Well, since you brought up the subject - what do you mean evicted? I thought it was locked (the D.B. Cooper Site).

There is some new information, but I don't know how to get it out. Crystal had told me that if I had something to add that she could get it added. Now you say it is evicted and I guess so because so far I haven't found it.

After 4 yrs the FBI is returning the DNA material to me this week March 28th.
They picked up the materials on March 28 2003 and this call from the FBI came out of the blue this wk. :( I don't know why it took 4 yrs. - I guess they need shelf space and I have complained to the FBI about it for the past 2 yrs.

Your theory about McCoy - well, we need to talk privately. New information reveals a link, except he was not Cooper....private email if you are interested.

My personal email, because I don't come here often.

Awsi Dooger
03-28-2007, 05:23 AM
Evicted was a cutesy word. Since those threads are locked they plummet page after page, and they might as well be evicted or expelled or extinct, from my standpoint. Locked is technically correct. They were locked in early September 2006, so you need to retreat to that point in this forum to find them.

You're not going to convince me McCoy wasn't DB Cooper. But I would be interested in anything "new." Maybe you could PM crystaldawn and summarize the new info and see if she'll okay a new thread. Not all the DB Cooper threads were locked, just the two lengthy ones. There was even a new one a month or so ago, titled "DB Cooper Case Summary," or something like that.

Awsi, It's actually even larger than that now. Check out the Blind River Rest stop update thread. That has about an 80/1 currently.

Yeah, it's amazing. It's gone up on the internet in general the last year or so. I've noticed that on site to site. More people registering but not an equal percentage posting. On the USC football board that SiberianKiss posts on, and myself occasionally, the ratio is frequently more than 100/1 and I've seen double that.

Oh jeez, CRicci, tonight would have been perfect. I had 50% more to bite.

I detoured to Burger King after the pathetic (Gators win) but profitable basketball results and they must have been trying to dump all the excess regular burgers since it was close to closing time, 11:50 PM. I ordered three double burgers and when I opened them every one was a triple burger.
