Switch The Evidence and Invasion. Invasion has a shot. Evidence does not.

I really think ABC will renew one of the three dramas that premiered this season. None deserve it, but I think they will just so it won't be so embarrassing. Frontrunners seem to be either Invasion or Brian. If Invasion comes back, it won't be in the post-Lost slot though. I want to see CiC return the most but it looks doubtful. I like all three which is a shame.

I also see ABC basically cancelling every sitcom, except 1 or MAYBE 2, if they feel generous. Hope and Faith seems to be the frontrunner with Jim 2nd. I've also heard some recent rumblings about Lopez and Freddie, but I think those two are very doubtful. It just depends on how their sitcom pilots test.

I wish they would release their early renewals... Boston Legal and Supernanny have been reported on the internet, but ABC has not confirmed either one(not that I doubt it).

At CBS, their Monday lineup is weakening. Only Two and a Half Men and Christine are doing well, King of Queens is probably dead. The stars want more money and it lost not only to Deal or No Deal Monday, but also Wife Swap AND Prison Break! Absolutely pathetic. They don't deserve another penny in their salary. This whole night is in real trouble if ABC does indeed move Grey's(which I'm confident they will).

The Amazing Race will likely NOT be on the Fall schedule. CBS only ordered one season and it's doing very bad on Wednesdays at 8.

Here's my ABC idea:

Sundays-AFV/EM: HE/DH/Brothers and Sisters or another new drama
Mondays-Wife Swap/Grey's/Brian or another new drama
Tuesdays-New Comedies(or one new and Jim)/Hope and Faith/New Comedy/Boston Legal
Wednesdays-DWTS/Lost/Nine Lives or another new drama
Thursdays-The Bachelor or Reality/DWTS Results/Secrets of a Small Town or another new drama
Fridays-Invasion?/Supernanny/20/20

Some risky moves, but the schedule they have now isn't working for the most part.

Brent88

CBS

Sundays

60 Minutes/Cold Case/New Drama/Crime Repeat

*The movie will not be able to compete against ABC AND Football on NBC*

If the new drama at 9 is successful, premiere a new one at 10 after the Super Bowl and then launch it there. This could be a HUGE opening if ABC moves Grey's.

Mondays-Old Christine/New Comedy/2.5 Men/New Comedy/CSI: Miami
Tuesdays-NCIS/The Unit/Company Town or another new drama
Wednesdays-Jericho or another new drama/Criminal Minds/CSI: NY
Thursdays-Survivor/CSI/Without a Trace
Fridays-Ghost Whisperer/Close to Home/Numb3rs

CBS is probably the easiest of the 5 to figure out. Only a few problem areas.

(I don't know where HIMYM should go, the numbers are bad on Mondays at 8:30).

Brent88

NBC

Sundays-Football
Mondays-DOND/L&O: CI/Medium
Tuesdays-The Biggest Loser/Black Donnellys/L&O: SVU
Wednesdays-Heroes/Studio 60/L&O
Thursdays-Scrubs/New Comedy/Earl/The Office/ER
Fridays-DOND/Las Vegas/Crossing Jordan

Final season of The Apprentice can air Sundays after Football along with Dateline and other shows.

Brent88
05-04-2006, 12:53 AM
FOX-Blah.

The CW

Sundays-Reba/Flirt or New Comedy/Everwood/Aquaman
Mondays-Chris/New Comedy/Girlfriends/The Game
Tuesdays-Gilmore/Veronica
Wednesdays-Top Model and Beauty and the Geek/Palm Springs and One Tree Hill(to avoid repeats)
Thursdays-Smallville/Supernatural
Fridays-Wrestling

They premiered more than three new dramas this season. Invasion is the only one that I think will return. It is too good of a show. I like Brian, too, but I doubt it. It would work so well after Grey's.

Hope & Faith the frontrunner? I don't think so. George Lopez is the frontrunner. They will bring back 2 or 3. Jim, Hope & Faith, and Freddie are the other candidates, in that order.

Yeah, I meant the three that are still on right now. :p

About the sitcoms, I'm just going on speculation I've seen. To be perfectly honest, ABC should just cancel them all and start over.

It does seem unlikely that ABC will renew any of their sitcoms as they've all disappointed in the ratings this past season. Plus looking at previous years, they canceled My Wife and Kids and 8 Simple Rules (which were once tent poles to ABC's lineup) without even batting an eyelash. They didn't even give the series time to do a proper finale and both ended with cliff-hangers. I wouldn't expect ABC to bring back George Lopez, Jim or Hope and Faith out of respect. Which is a shame. I think George Lopez and Hope and Faith are still very good and have enough steam to go atleast another season. I never liked According to Jim though. I just found it painfully un-funny, so I don't really care what happens to that show.

But unfortunately, if ABC were to keep only one of the three, my money's on Jim.

Also for NBC, I'd probably put SCRUBS in the "on the bubble" category. Scrubs is one of my all-time favorite sitcoms, but the ratings this past season were horrible (thanks to that cruddy time-slot!!). I wouldn't think of it as a lock to return.

There is no way ABC will cancel all of their sitcoms. You need some veterans to go with any new ones. I bet that George Lopez, According to Jim and Freddie are back. I also have a hunch that they will do with Hope & Faith what they did with Less Than Perfect last year. By that I mean bring it back as a a mid season replacement to get a 4th year for syndication. I think Buena Vista wants Kelly Ripa's face in syndication to get free advertising for Regis & Kelly. Only 8 Simple Rules was canceled after 3 seasons just short of the 100 episodes needed for syndication. Watching the reruns on the WB I am still trying to figure out why. It is still better than most of the sitcoms they have on now. Okay, I won't start that rant again. ;)

Also, I have heard that ABC still likes Sons & Daughters and may bring it back with more compatible shows around it. I hope that is not true. I think that show is awful.

By the way, being the huge 8 Simple Rules fan I am I am hoping that ABC picks up the new Sisters Project sitcom starring Kaley Cuoco. Somehow, I think they will not because I have not heard much buzz about it. However, I hope it is picked up. Kaley needs a new sitcom. That is her best type of show.

Can Someone Please Let me know What Dates What Network will be doing there Upfrount's I am looking Forward to seeing What The ABC Televison Network and The CW Televison Network has on There Schedule for The 2006 2007 TV Season

NBC May 15, ABC May 16, CBS May 17, FOX and the CW? May 18.

The only one I'm unsure about is the CW.

Please God no. Losing to Wrestling when UPN has had affiliates pulled(meaning FOX is avaliable in more homes) is downright unacceptable. It also drug down Trading Spouses(could the two be MORE uncompatitable?).

Also, I have heard that ABC still likes Sons & Daughters and may bring it back with more compatible shows around it. I hope that is not true. I think that show is awful

That show is boring. If they renew it, it will suffer the same fate as Jake in Progress. They'll highly promote it's return for one episode, pull it, and then never mention it again.

One thing is clear, regardless of what ABC does with the sitcoms, Wednesday at 8 CANNOT be sitcoms! Lost is down significantly this season(but WOW what an ending last night) and it's going to get worse if ABC doesn't do something dramatic. I don't think putting on a lame drama that's going to flop will help much.

I don't think Scrubs is in the bubble for NBC, thats a solid 5 million that won't want to loose - they only have 2 hit sitcoms and The Office seems to be loosing steam, I wonder why the 3 are not up together after all its 3 single-camera shows.

What would ABC do with Scrubs if they pick it up, for the large backend payments? I fear they would stick it with According to Jim, or give it a fate like Jake in Progress.

I can't agree with you more on this. The show is horrible and should not be renewed. I think it would be exactly like Jake In Progress. However, I have heard around that ABC thinks it is a good show and it is critically acclaimed, and they think a new time slot with new shows around it will improve the ratings, so it is under consideration for renewal. Sounds exactly like what they said about Jake last year, huh ? :(

Will McPherson never learn? I don't want ABC to become CBS (or CSI) with the same type of shows airing all the time, but why is he taking so many chances on these shows? I watched Sons & Daughters and couldn't even find a joke, I would have settled for some un-funny ones but I didn't find one - it was dry, boring rubbish. Improvised usually means awkward garbage, would you let child actors improvise their lines?

Not really.

I will say that NBC has a lot of buzz surrounding their drama pilots. Could be like ABC in the Fall of 2004 where they have 2 or 3 hits. They desperately need one. Studio 60 was officially picked up today. It appears to be the frontrunner to be a breakout hit. Look for it to get a high-profile timeslot.

Aaron Sorkin takes us behind the scenes of a fictional late-night sketch comedy series. Lately, funny has been in short supply at Studio 60. The executive producer just had a breakdown. The control room is out of control. The actors are acting up. And that’s just for starters. Now the show’s only hope at a successful future lies with two wunderkind writers (Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford) and a headstrong new network president.

Yeah, I'm not too interested in the show, but that's just me. I've seen TONS of internet buzz about it though. NBC has several other drama pilots that could be hits too, The Black Donnellys, Heroes, and Haskett's Chance. I'm not much for crime drama so I don't really care, but the CSI's and SVU have been so successful that I think they could be what NBC needs.

The only sitcoms on ABC I see as a virtual lock is George Lopez. The rest can all go. Hope & Faith does have the advantage of being so close to syndication, however.

It's amazing how fast ABC has fallen even since the beginning of the season. They really need to shake the network up because they have the potential to be number one if they can get a few other nights going. A big challenge for them will be to also find series for Wednesday because, outside of Lost, the night is in the dumpster, and it's even pulling down the ratings for that show.

From Variety:

While there's still more than a week left before the networks announce their new shows, space on their schedules is already getting crowded.

To no one's surprise, NBC officially announced on Thursday that it's ordering the Aaron Sorkin-Thomas Schlamme drama "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" for fall. Move was a no-brainer given the Peacock's 13-episode commitment to the project last fall (Daily Variety, Oct. 17).

"Studio 60" joins "The Black Donnellys" and "Kidnapped" among the dramas NBC has officially picked up for next season.

Fox ordered drama "Vanished" and laffer "Til Death" last week, locking up 10% of the net's fall lineup.

There's also been buzz that Fox could give an early thumbs up to "Primary," the hostage negotiation drama with Ron Livingston.

"Primary" producer 20th Century Fox TV has already been told it can start building sets for the show and hire writers -- obviously a good sign that a pickup is imminent.

No other nets have officially announced new series orders, but CBS appears all but certain to pick up the comedy "Class." Like fellow Warner Bros. TV pilot "Studio 60," the Eye laffer had a significant commitment behind it.

Warner has been told it can start hiring writers for "Class."

ABC had already given an episodic commitment to the laffer "In Case of Emergency" and is also said to be hot on the drama "Secrets of a Small Town." Insiders, however, say it's unlikely the Alphabet will officially announce any series orders prior to its May 16 upfront presentation.

ABC execs haven't entered the scheduling room yet, but it's already clear what the No. 1 question will be: whether to move Sunday smash "Grey's Anatomy" to help jumpstart another night.

Beyond "Studio 60," Peacock is said to be happy with how the TV adaptation of "Friday Night Lights" turned out. In addition, buzz is strong on the John Lithgow sitcomsitcom "20 Good Years" and the net's untitled "Saturday Night Live" parody starring Tina Fey.

Should the Fey laffer also wind up on the sked, NBC will be in the unusual position of having two shows in primetime revolving around a "SNL"-style world.

Yes it is. Commander-in-Chief and Invasion both started off as huge hits, and look at them now. It's sad(I like both shows too). Lost had it's lowest ratings ever for a new episode last night. Something has gotta change. This show used to get 20 million and last night it ALMOST got beat by Criminal Minds?!

The results edition of "American Idol" took a 16.6/25 (11.4), and the other networks struggled. "Lost" took a dip from its usual ratings with a 8.3/12 (5.7), good to beat CBS' "Criminal Minds," 7.3/11 (2.9). NBC's "Dateline" came in with a 4.7/7 (2.3). UPN decided to air a repeat of "Everybody Hates Chris," 1.7/3 (1.1), and WB aired "Bedford Diaries" with only a 1.0/2 (0.6).

"Lost" took the next half-hour by storm with a 9.5/14 (6.7) to beat CBS' "Criminal Minds," 8.9/13 (4.0). FOX's "Unan1mous," 8.1/12 (6.0) took it to NBC and "Dateline," 6.5/10 (3.6). UPN aired a second helping of "Chris," 1.7/2 (1.0). "Bedford Diaries" fell to a 0.9/1 (0.5) for the WB.

Criminal Minds soared by 1.6 after Idol while Lost only went up by 1.1, which is surprising since Idol and Lost skew young and CM skews old.

I watched both those shows when the season began and liked them but as the ratings dropped, I just stopped watching and CIC was off the air for so long. I hate the long wait but continuing dramas like them should do what 24 does. They may start late but they air their shows consecutively and it's really a better experience knowing the show will be on every week.

I love Lost and I'm enjoying this season better than last but the weeks off is probably hurting it too. I also like Criminal Minds. I always watch lost and tape CM.

The news about Invasion gets worse. Not only did it lose half the lead-in, but it lost 14% of it's viewers throughout it's airing.

At 10pm, "CSI: NY" won with a 9.4/15 (4.7) and NBC took a 7.5/12 (3.4) for "Law & Order." ABC trailed with "Invasion," 5.3/8 (3.3).

"CSI: NY" grew to a 9.7/16 (4.9) and "Law & Order" stayed steady, 7.5/13. ABC fell some more with "Invasion," 4.6/8 (2.7).

That's what I thought too, but how do you explain Criminal Minds growing more than Lost after Idol went off? It should be the other way around(and I thought what you thought til I saw the numbers today).

Criminal Minds is doing about the same as it did pre-American Idol. That is what I mean. Lost is more affected by AI. ABC will be fine in the fall. It is the March-May period where they usually struggle. That should change next year I think with Stars probably having two or three installments for the season.

Buzz for Lost is good, and next week should be big in the ratings now that the big news has spread.

That sounds good, but it might work better in a comedy (on NBC, with Tina Fey?).

I don't see how you can make 40 minutes of drama about a comedy TV show, 'ratings are down' isn't very dramatic - especially not on NBC ;)

I think it will be adored by the critics and boring to everybody else.

An Early Look at the ABC Fall Schedule
From Rachel Thomas,
Your Guide to TV Dramas.
From TV News Correspondent Jimmie Manning

Last year television fans were buzzing with talk about Commander in Chief and Invasion as the potential new hits on ABC while denouncing the sad state of ABC’s comedy slate. Unfortunately for ABC, Commander in Chief and Invasion quickly faded and ABC’s comedy roster has continued to deteriorate.

According to insiders, this year ABC is employing a new strategy in constructing its fall schedule: take its six biggest hits, stretch them across the network’s programmed nights, and surround them with compatible programs. What does this mean for fans of the ABC network? A look night by night:

MONDAY
ABC is committed to moving the white hot Grey’s Anatomy to the night, and the network plans on pairing it with Six Degrees , an ensemble show about six young New Yorkers from executive producer JJ Abrams. The show tested well and should hold on to a considerable chunk of the Grey’s Anatomy audience. Currently the network is looking at opening the night with new Alicia Silverstone comedy Pink Collar, although Wifeswap or Supernanny may take its place if the show does not test well.

TUESDAY
Boston Legal will most likely air an hour earlier to make room for compatible new drama Brothers & Sisters , another program performing well with test audiences. The network is currently sifting through sophisticated comedies to open the night, although Wifeswap may make a move to Tuesdays. An According to Jim renewal is highly unlikely.

WEDNESDAY
The network is high on David Arquette comedy In Case of Emergency and believes the buzz it will generate may provide for a wider audience for the low-rated but still likely to be renewed Sons & Daughters. That comedy duo may instead open Tuesday. Of course, Lost will remain in the anchor spot for the network with the action-packed Traveler a virtual lock to air in the coveted post-Lost time period. Invasion and Freddie are not expected to return, although George Lopez may get an additional season.

THURSDAY
Dancing with the Stars will return in the fall with an all new edition, most likely leading in to the new Heather Locklear and Patricia Heaton sitcoms Women of a Certain Age and The Patricia Heaton Show, respectively. Though Commander in Chief was being considered to close the night for the fall, that is now highly unlikely and Primetime Live will almost certainly be back.

FRIDAY
ABC is hopeful about the buzz executive producer Elton John and star Kim Cattrall will generate for Him & Us, making it a compatible pairing with the Dancing with the Stars results show. Dancing with the Stars will then lead in to Men in Trees, a promising new drama starting Anne Heche that tested well with audiences and is a favorite of the ABC executives. News perennial 20/20 will close the night.

SATURDAY
Movies and Disney specials will likely continue to run on the night, although the network was reportedly considering moving many of its aging comedy series (Hope & Faith, George Lopez, According to Jim) to the night. While this is highly unlikely, it is about the only hope these series have of being renewed.

SUNDAY
ABC had considered moving Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to an earlier time period, but has instead decided to keep the entire night in tact with the exception of Grey’s Anatomy. Most likely to take the post- Desperate Housewives slot is Secrets of a Small Town, a pilot that has been well received by test audiences and features the star power of Denise Richards and Angie Harmon.

That is an interesting article. I like the flow. But I'm sure many of that will change. I do like the Saturday thing, I hope they do something like that. I'd prefer:

8:00pm George Lopez
8:30pm Freddie
9:00pm According to Jim
9:30pm Hope & Faith
10:00pm Invasion/What About Brian

And in sweeps, they can air movies I guess.

I would like Invasion on Fridays, though.

I am with PB on the Schedule

at 7:00 pm George Lopez
at 7:30 pm Freddie
at 8:00 pm According To Jim
at 8:30 pm Hope and Faith
at 9:00 pm Invasion or What About Bob

I like the Saturday idea, but moving BL to 9pm Tuesday(when it's not strong enough to anchor the night) and having Sons and Daughters as a lead-in to Lost(which will be even worse than it's lead-in now) sucks. I tend to not believe the article(at least those aspects of it)

So ABC is about to cancel all their sitcoms other than Son & Daughters ? This network never ceases to amaze me. I think they are courting disaster from the sitcom crowd. I think Sons & Daughters will last about as long as Jake In Progress this season. For me, personally, I will probably skip that whole schedule other than Desperate Housewives and maybe the Patricia Heaton and Heather Locklear sitcoms. Most of that schedule is junk if you ask me.

TVJunkie101

ABC sucks when it comes to sitcoms. So many good series were cancelled due to lack of promotion, poorly planned lead-ins or a bad night altogether.

Life with Bonnie, 8 Simple Rules, Hot Properties, Crumbs, Less Than Perfect ... all fantastic shows and all are gone. Idiots. ABC is horrible with sitcoms and I hate watching them because I like them and they always end up canceled. For ABC to basically cancel all of their sitcoms is such a risky move. It reminds of the sitcom purge they did a few years back with Spin City, Dharma, etc... ABC just sucks with sitcoms. I miss the days of Roseanne, Sabrina, Boy Meets World, Home Improvement, Family Matters, etc...

Although that article makes sense and a lot of the pilots supposedly being picked up by ABC sound great! ABC is in a tough spot. They had such promise this year and really have nothing to show for it except a few hits from last year.

The thing that gets me with ABC is they keep replacing their sitcoms with worse sitcoms. Almost every single new sitcom they have put on the past few years has been a complete failure, and did worse than the shows they replace. Off the top of my head, look at these sitcoms for ABC the past few years and how long they lasted :

Hot Properties -13 episodes
Emily's Reasons Why Not - One whole episode
Jake In Progress-14 episodes over two years
Crumbs-12 episodes
Rodney- 2 seasons and preempted often
Complete Savages -16 episodes
I'm With Her - 1 season
Married to the Kelly's - 1 season
It's All Relative - 1 season
Freddie- 1 season
Sons & Daughters- The show is terrible and will not last through next season

I am sure there are a couple more I left out. I just wish ABC would stop trying to reinvent the wheel with their sitcoms. They never should have canceled shows like 8 Simple Rules, Bonnie Hunt, and My Wife and Kids, Less Than Perfect, etc. All the new shows have done worse than their predecessors. I really hate what ABC is doing with their sitcoms.

Sons & Daughters is worth saving. That is a masterpiece of a show. It is something different. With the right lead-in, it could do well.

ABC's sitcoms have not done well in the ratings. Why do you think they are messing with them? 8 Simple Rules, According to Jim, George Lopez, Hope & Faith and My Wife & Kids are the only ones that done decent enough. Life with Bonnie and Less than Perfect were well liked, but the ratings were never there.

Crumbs is a good show and had the best ratings for an ABC sitcom this year, but it lost a chunk of its Dancing with the Stars rating. Shows like I'm with Her, It's All Relative followed ABC's sitcom leaders, but could not hold on to their ratings.

And I think ABC will bring back 2 or 3 of its sitcoms next season. Don't believe something that is being stated 10 days before their upfront. A lot can change until then.
But I'm liking the idea of Locklear and Heaton back-to-back. And they both are four camera!

Superbowl

To me Sons & Daughters is next years Jake In Progress. By that I mean a show the network likes and the audience does not. They said the same thing about Jake In Progress. They said by switching the time slot and putting more compatible programs around it the ratings would improve, and as we all know it lasted exactly one show. Sons & Daughters will neve last.

All I know is ABC better have lots of mid season replacement on the bench ready to go, because a lot of those new shows will fail just like all the other new sitcoms they have put on the past three years. I hope they have lots of stuff on the bench ready to go.

Pavan

Their new dramas go very well with the current dramas. Secrets of a Small Town will go well with Desperate Housewives. The new J.J. Abrams drama will go very well with Grey's Anatomy. And I see at least two good dramas that can follow Lost. Men in Trees is getting high marks, too. And Brothers AND Sisters is probably the best new show they have, and has been picked up for additional episodes, so that is a good sign.

Sitcom wise, I think they will need to keep 2 or 3 of their sitcoms to go with the new sitcoms. In Case of Emergency is getting high praise and has already been picked-up. It is a single camera comedy, that will likely be paired with Sons & Daughters. If not, then Pink Collar, another single camera comedy. Elton John's Him & Us is also single camera. As is Ted Danson's sitcom. I think at best only 2 single camera sitcoms will be picked up.
Four-camera wise, Heaton and Locklear's sitcoms are a lock. There are some others that could be picked-up, too.

I will detail all the networks next week in the news blog. A pre-upfront prediction.

In Case of Emergency looks good... as does Bonnie Hunt and Patricia Heaton. There actually might be some sitcoms I look forward to this year.

I think ABC really needs to not put new comedies on Tuesdays at 8. IF they put comedies, they need to be aging ones(like Jim, Lopez, Hope and Faith, whichever return) because of Idol. That is one lesson ABC needs to learn from this season. They may find themselves competiting with The CW for 5th once Idol starts if they don't and if NBC decides to dump their 8pm shows(one hour of comedy at 9 will do).

Please, no more Bonnie Hunt - I think TV's will self destruct if they have to tune in to another Hunt Sitcom.

It'll be worse than those cinema's screens that imploded when playing Cheaper by the Dozen.

I really hope that show does not get picked up.

Unlikely to Return: All of Us, The Bedford Diaries, Blue Collar TV, Cuts, Eve, Half & Half, Living With Fran, Love Inc., One on One, Modern Man, Pepper Dennis, Related, Survival of the Richest, Twins

Already Gone: 7th Heaven, Charmed, Get This Party Started, Just Legal, Sex Love & Secrets, South Beach, What I Like About You

Whattaya Think?

NBC:

Likely to Return: Crossing Jordan, Dateline NBC, Deal or No Deal, ER, Las Vegas, Law & Order, Law & Order:Criminal Intent, Law & Order:SVU, Medium, My Name is Earl,The Office

On the Bubble:The Apprentice :D , The E-Ring, Scrubs, Surface, Teachers

Unlikely to Return:Conviction, Fear Factor, Heist, Joey,Three Wishes

Already Gone: The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, The Book of Daniel, Four Kings, Inconceivable, The West Wing, Will & Grace

Dateline is rumored to be only airing on Saturday Nights next fall, since Sunday will be filled with NFL until January and it seems NBC is satisfied with Deal or No Deal on Fridays.

The Apprentice is a lock for some point next season. However, rumor states it will not be on the fall lineup and will arrive at mid-season and only do 1 version instead of 2.

Either Scrubs or Teachers will return, but not both.

Surface and E-Ring are dead.

Fear Factor will return to burnoff episodes that did not air this past season, but don't look for it to be around after that.

ABC

Likely to Return: 20/20, According to Jim, America's Funniest Home Videos,Boston Legal, Dancing With The Stars, Desperate Housewives, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, The George Lopez Show, Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Supernanny,Wife Swap

On the Bubble: American Inventor, The Bachelor, Freddie, Hope & Faith, Invasion, Less Then Perfect, Primetime Live, Rodney

Unlikely to Return: Commander in Chief, Crumbs, The Evidence, In Justice, What About Brian?

Already Gone: Alias, Emily's Reasons Why Not, Hot Properties, Jake in Progress, Miracle Workers, Night Stalker,Sons & Daughters

According to Jim and George Lopez are on some bubble lists, but look for both back perhaps for one last season.

Look for The Bachelor back for another run, possibly mid-season since its ratings were up for the last version. 50/50 chance for American Inventor.

Rodney and Freddie look dead, but Rodney got a second season, when it was rumored dead last year.

Hope and Faith may be back for another season to get a syndication deal. Its ratings are decent on Tuesday.

Less than Perfect is dead.

Primetime Live may not be included on the Fall Lineup. ABC apparently only wants one newsmagazine show and 20/20 would get the nod.

Commander in Chief is dead after being pulled last week.

CBS

Likely to Return: 48 Hours Mystery, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Ghost Whisperer, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, Num3ers,Survivor, Two and a Half Men, The Unit, Without a Trace

On the Bubble: Close to Home, Courting Alex, The King of Queens, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Out of Practice

Unlikely to Return: Still Standing

Already Gone: Love Monkey, Threshold, Yes Dear

48 Hours has yet to be renewed, CBS may go with all drama repeats and Movies on Saturdays.

Amazing Race probably will not be included on the Fall Lineup due to low ratings during its current run, however it has been renewed and will be included in mid-season.

Close to Home is getting decent ratings on Fridays, however it got off to a terrible start on Tuesdays and is the weakest of any CBS drama, and considering CBS is packed with drama's look for it to go.

Out of Practice and Courting Alex are likely gone after the horrible Wednesday ratings they both got a few weeks ago.

Old Christine is definately back. It is delivering respectable ratings and is being heavily promoted.

King of Queens will come back for one last season in my opinion. I think the money issues will be settled.

Still Standing will not be back, it has enough episodes for syndication and did not even go a full season this year.

FOX

Likely to Return: 24, American Dad, American Idol, America's Most Wanted, Bones, Cops, House, Family Guy, King of the Hill, Prison Break, The Simpsons, Trading Spouses, Unan1mous

On the Bubble: The Bernie Mac Show :( , Free Ride, The Loop, Nanny 911, The O.C., The War at Home

Unlikely to Return: Stacked :D

Already Gone: Arrested Development, Head Cases, Killer Instinct, Kitchen Confidential, Malcolm in the Middle, Reunion, That 70's Show

Bernie Mac is dead, it has been on every night during its five year run, its got syndication.

The O.C. will be back for another season so it can get a four year run for syndication.

Free Ride, Stacked, The Loop are dead.

The CW

Likely to Return: America's Next Top Model, Beauty and the Geek, Everybody Hates Chris, Gilmore Girls, Girlfriends, Reba, Smallville, Supernatural,Veronica Mars, WWE Smackdown

On the Bubble: Everwood, One Tree Hill

Unlikely to Return: All of Us, The Bedford Diaries, Blue Collar TV, Cuts, Eve, Half & Half, Living With Fran, Love Inc., One on One, Modern Man, Pepper Dennis, Related, Survival of the Richest, Twins

Already Gone: 7th Heaven, Charmed, Get This Party Started, Just Legal, Sex Love & Secrets, South Beach, What I Like About You

Reba has been rumored to have been cancelled, but I think it will go another year because the CW needs a sitcom and it is the highest rated of any.

Supernatural and Veronica Mars also have been rumored to be on the bubble, but I think they will be back.

Everwood is dead, it has 4 years for syndication. One Tree Hill possibly will be back.

Either All of Us or Half and Half are rumored back, but only one.

One on One, Eve, Cuts, Love Inc. look dead.

Twins, Modern Men, Living with Fran also look dead.

Hmm, I have to disagree with you there. Life with Bonnie was one of the funniest sitcoms on ABC these past few years. I was sad to see it go.

From Variety:

ABC, CBS and Fox possess television's top-rated programs, but each may be pondering a breakup of its hit pairings to spread the wealth around to other nights.

One week before the upfronts, here's a look at what the nets may be considering as they set their fall skeds:

Fox -- The top-rated net in 18-49 will again plan a fall sked without "Idol" and "24" and a second-half sked with them -- and that may mean some shows shifting slots midseason.

One bold move would be shifting "House" to Thursday at 8, where there is no Big Four drama. Or Fox could lead off Wednesday with "House" and then put the "Idol" results show on Thursday, thus distributing its assets across the week.

Look for the net to stake out an hour for comedy on either Tuesday or Wednesday, with "The War at Home" and "Til Death" not a bad pairing. And the serialized "Vanished" would seem a logical pair with "Prison Break" on Monday.

There's also a big opening Fridays for young women that Fox may be able to tap into with a new drama.

ABC -- The Sunday lineup is powerful, but the net must bust it up to help other nights. This may mean a shift of "Grey's Anatomy" to Monday at 9, so both it and "Desperate Housewives" on Sunday can lead into new dramas. "Secrets of a Small Town" would seem ideal behind "Housewives."

Alphabet is weak in comedy, but "George Lopez" and "Freddie" might be paired with two new laffers on Tuesday. There's also an opportunity for comedy geared at women 25-54 to follow the "Dancing With the Stars" results show on Friday, assuming it stays there.

The modest "Invasion" could return behind "Lost" on Wednesday, as the net has many other hours to address.

CBS -- Biggest concern for the otherwise solid Eye is its Monday laffer block, especially if unsung "King of Queens" isn't back. "Out of Practice" deserves another shot, while top prospect "The Class" seems a good fit with "How I Met Your Mother."

The time is right for "Without a Trace” to vacate the comfy post-"CSI" slot on Thursday, allowing for James Woods drama "Shark" or another new hour with male appeal. This would free up "Trace," which could move to Sunday at 10, joining "Cold Case" (maybe moved up to 9?) and a new drama.

NBC -- There are no easy answers here, and the net doesn't have the megahits to help support new shows.

We may see "Law & Order" shift to 9 to launch a show at 10, and "ER" may have to sit on the sidelines in fall if the net wants to try a hot newbie in its Thursday slot. Another shift worth considering is "Medium" to Wednesday at 8, which would help flow on the night.

There might be an opening Tuesday for a lighter drama like "Friday Night Lights" or "Heroes" -- or both.

On the comedy front, NBC should focus on Thursday, with "My Name Is Earl" followed by "Scrubs," "The Office" and a newbie, perhaps the new Tina Fey workplace skein.

The CW -- Net should focus on launching with shows that have loyal followings but then also be aggressive at midseason to infuse new blood.

The WB's Thursday ("Smallville"/"Supernatural") and UPN's Friday ("WWE Smackdown") should return intact, and "Gilmore Girls" and "America's Next Top Model" will likely stay in their slots.

Something like "Split Decision" or "Runaway" would be a good choice to lead into "Everwood" on Monday.

Sunday should be reserved for femme-centric comedies, opposite football and Fox's male laffers. "Everybody Hates Chris," "Girlfriends," "Reba" and new Nick Lachey skein "She Said/He Said" figure to be part of the mix.

Sunday at 10 is going to be WIDE open in the Fall with Grey's moving. ABC hasn't had much luck launching other shows after DH, so I'd be a bit concerned if I was them. Take notes CBS and NBC! Their domination on Monday may come at the expense of Sunday(especially with increased competition). I really think CBS will leave WAT on Thursday, but I dunno.

I'm slowly warming up to the idea of moving ER there after Football in January.

With GA moving, CBS might want to put WAT on Sundays at 10, especially since Crossing Jordan won't be there in the fall at least. That could give CBS an edge on that night.

Brent88

I just realized that if WAT and ER both move, Thursdays at 10 will be WIDE open for ABC to make a move. Dramas have not worked at that hour because of WAT and ER, and Primetime's numbers are not acceptable. That could change the landscape of the night for who comes in 2nd as NBC's only tentpole will be gone replaced with an untested drama(most likely) after 4 weak comedies, and it could potentially(*IF* ABC schedules it right), challenge CBS with DWTS as a lead-in.

I think he was mistaken because ABC hasn't made any sort of announcement yet. You can find this sort of stuff at www.abcmedianet.com.

Personally, I find the show jarring, especially when the grandmother only speaks in Spanish and everybody only responds to her in English. It's just weird.

I think he was mistaken because ABC hasn't made any sort of announcement yet. You can find this sort of stuff at www.abcmedianet.com.

Personally, I find the show jarring, especially when the grandmother only speaks in Spanish and everybody only responds to her in English. It's just weird.

Nothing is official yet, but a lot of these critics have inside sources that give them information. Also, Hollywood Reporter said today that George Lopez and Freddie are looking good for a return. I think it is probably true.

DIE SHOW DIE!

I bet it turns out just like Jake in Progress. Premieres and does so badly it's pulled after that.

If they have it as the lead-in to LOST, it's the stupidiest thing ever. Didn't they learn from this season? The comedies have brought down Lost significantly.

Oh and what happened to the DWTS to Wednesday idea?

Pavan
05-09-2006, 12:19 AM
Lost was on fire in the fall (doing 20 million or more). George and Freddie didn't affect Lost. In fact, both of those did very good in the fall, too, especially George. I'm telling you that American Idol is the reason for everything after January.

That Saturday sitcom night thing sounds GREAT! Please please please, just TRY IT, ABC!

Anyway, I just really hope Hope & Faith gets renewed, I'd really like to see it make syndication... I also would be happy if Freddie got renewed, even though I stopped watching the show mid-season.... maybe I could get back into it again.

According To Jim can go. I'm 99.9% sure Crumbs won't be back, but I thought it was a really great show... oh well...

Ooooh yeah, and I hope "The New Adventures of Old Christine" gets renewed, and that Wanda Sykes gets added as a regular cast member.

If Less Than Perfect still isn't at enough episodes for syndication, then I hope it gets renewed for mid-season again this year.

Superbowl
05-09-2006, 07:10 AM
My prediction is Sons & Daughters gets renewed and as has been mentioned suffers the same fate as Jake In Progress. This is a show that really stinks (I couldn't watch it after a few shows) but the network insists if it moves compatible shows around it, and a different time slot that it will do well. They couldn't be more wrong. The show is horrible and the viewers just don't like it.

I also predict Hope & Faith will renewed as a mid season replacement very much like Less Than Perfect last year so they can get enough shows for syndication. Having Kelly Ripa in syndication is a great advertisement for Buena Vista Television, which also syndicates Regis & Kelly. Besides very few shows get canceled after three years when they are just short of syndication. Yes, I know of one that stupidly was, but don't get me started again. :)

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Katims 'Lights' up NBC pilot

In a move that solidifies the series pickup chances for NBC's "Friday Night Lights," veteran Jason Katims has been tapped as executive producer/showrunner. If the project, inspired by Peter Berg's 2004 film, joins NBC's schedule during the 2006-07 season as anticipated, Katims will serve as executive producer alongside the pilot's writer-director, Berg, as well as Sarah Aubrey, John Cameron and Brian Grazer. Set in the present day, "Lights," from Imagine TV and NBC Universal TV Studio, stars Kyle Chandler as the coach of a small-town Texas high school football team. The show, developed with the upcoming return of the NFL to NBC in mind, is rumored for a possible Sunday berth on the schedule in conjunction with the network's football coverage.

Yes, but ABC has such a revolving door. They keep canceling shows that are better than shows they replace them with. NBC keeps losing shows to age and retirement like Seinfeld, Friends, Frasier, Will & Grace, etc.

I know this is just me, but I will never forgive ABC for canceling 8 Simple after three years and not even letting go into syndication. I try to watch as little of ABC sitcoms as possible.

ABC has picked up "Notes from the Underbelly"(WTF kinda title is that?), "The Nine"(Nine Lives was SO much better), along with "Help Me, Help You" and "Daybreak".

NBC has picked up the new Tina Fey sitcom(which means they will have two shows related to SNL on the schedule).

It also shuts down the chances for some pilots.

Variety is reporting:

ABC
Dramas greenlit are "Six Degrees," "The Nine" and "Daybreak." Comedies with a go-ahead for next season are single camera sitcoms "Help Me Help You," "In Case of Emergency" and "Notes From the Underbelly."
It's likely several more projects will get greenlights by the end of this week.
And ABC may order as many as three or four more dramas, according to talk around town, while "Lost" may launch its new season in November (hence why the S2 DVD is coming in early October) . And they seem likely to bring back "The Bachelor" franchise as well after a successful midseason run.

CBS
Word is they may pick up four or five drama pilots, with two or three for fall; "Shark" and "Smith" top those lists.

NBC:
NBC has all but given orders to the John Lithgow starrer "20 Good Years," from Warner Bros. TV and Werner-Gold-Miller, as well as its untitled Tina Fey laffer, from NBC Universal TV and Broadway Video.
A bogus NBC schedule making the rounds even puts "Tina Fey" in the coveted Thursday night 9:30 slot -- a move that makes a lot of sense, especially if "The Office" shifts to 9 p.m.
Not headed for the Peacock fall sked: "Teachers." Midseason laffer is said to be dead.

FOX
Fox is said to be mulling one or two more drama pickups, with "Damages" and "Beyond" topping the short list.

More buzz:

ABC

The single-camera half-hour "Him and Us," starring Kim Cattrall, is believed to be a no-go at ABC and may be shopped elsewhere.

ABC is expected to pick up a few more series, with dramas "Traveler," "Secrets of a Small Town," "Ugly Betty," "Drift," "Men in Trees" and "Brothers & Sisters" battling it out for the remaining one-hour slots and the untitled Burnett/Beckerman (Let's Rob Mick Jagger) and Hunt/Lake (Let Go) half-hours in the running on the comedy side.
If the network's hot medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" makes the move to Monday 9 p.m. as speculated, "Six Degrees" and "Secrets of a Small Town" are rumored as possible companions to launch behind it.
From the network's returning series, the comedies "According to Jim" and "George Lopez" are said to be looking good to come back, with "Freddie" also a possibility. Things look grimmer on the drama side for "What About Brian" and "Invasion." If "Invasion" is not picked up at ABC, the sci-fi drama might be taken to the CW, sources said.
A lot of pieces on ABC's schedule will depend on whether the network opts for a Thursday/Friday or Wednesday/Thursday pattern for "Dancing With the Stars," with "Day Break" rumored for a possible Thursday berth and "Traveler" said to be in consideration for a midseason run in the Tuesday 10 p.m. slot.

The freshman drama "Close to Home" is said to be looking good to return next season.
Comedy-wise, "The Class" is still considered the front-runner, with "Inseparable," the untitled Tom Hertz project and "The Big Bang Theory" in the mix.

Fox:
Sitcoms - "The Winner" is all but set to join previously picked up " 'Til Death."
NBC is passing on "Andy Barker, P.I.," Conan O'Brien's single-camera gumshoe comedy starring Andy Richter, and the project will be shopped to Fox.

The CW:
CBS' drama pilot "Ultra" is said to be in serious consideration for a pickup at the CW, which is said to be not very pleased with its drama pilots. Invasion from ABC is possible also, if canceled by them.

From the Hollywood Reporter:

ABC got busy putting the pieces of its 2006-07 schedule together Wednesday, handing series orders to the dramas "The Nine," "Six Degrees" and "Day Break" and comedies "In Case of Emergency," "Help Me Help You" and "Notes From the Underbelly."

NBC, which will kick off the broadcast networks' upfront week Monday, was widely expected to make the bulk of its series pickups Wednesday but did not. Pilots that are expected to get a formal series greenlight today or Friday include the dramas "Friday Night Lights," "Heroes" and "Raines" and the untitled Tina Fey comedy.

The comedies "20 Good Years," "Community Service" and "The Singles Table" are understood to be in contention for the remaining NBC comedy slots. Sources said NBC is passing on "Andy Barker, P.I.," Conan O'Brien's single-camera gumshoe comedy starring Andy Richter, and the project will be shopped to Fox.

Similarly, the single-camera half-hour "Him and Us," starring Kim Cattrall, is believed to be a no-go at ABC and may be shopped elsewhere.

David Arquette, Greg Germann and Jonathan Silverman lead the ensemble cast of the Touchstone TV-produced "Emergency," which follows a group of high school friends who reunite when their lives face comic crises. The project originally was picked up with a series commitment.

In Regency TV's "Help," Ted Danson plays a troubled celebrity shrink who hides his own problems from the patients in his group therapy sessions.

"Underbelly" is a single-camera comedy from Warner Bros. TV and the Tannenbaum Co. that examines how a married couple's lives change in anticipation of their first child.

On the drama side, "Break," from Touchstone TV, stars Taye Diggs as a cop trying to discover who framed him for murder.

"Nine," from WBTV, traces the aftermath of the hostages in a bank robbery; Chi McBride and Kim Raver co-star.

Touchstone TV's "Six Degrees" chronicles the connection between six strangers brought together through a mysterious web of coincidences.

ABC is expected to pick up a few more series, with dramas "Traveler," "Secrets of a Small Town," "Ugly Betty," "Drift," "Men in Trees" and "Brothers & Sisters" battling it out for the remaining one-hour slots and the untitled Burnett/Beckerman and Hunt/Lake half-hours in the running on the comedy side.

A lot of pieces on ABC's schedule will depend on whether the network opts for a Thursday/Friday or Wednesday/Thursday pattern for "Dancing With the Stars," with "Day Break" rumored for a possible Thursday berth and "Traveler" said to be in consideration for a midseason run in the Tuesday 10 p.m. slot.

Over at NBC, the network has canceled its midseason comedy "Teachers."

While NBC has yet to officially pick up its new series, a speculative fall schedule already was making the rounds Wednesday.

The rumored schedule has "ER" staying put on Thursdays at 10 p.m., though a possible move of the veteran medical drama to Tuesday or Wednesday to make room for a new series, possibly "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," has been widely speculated.

The speculative NBC schedule has the untitled Tina Fey comedy and "Community Service" joining "My Name Is Earl" and "The Office" on Thursday and "Studio 60" going to Monday, along with "The Black Donnellys," and "Medium" moving to Friday.

The new drama "Heroes" is rumored to lead NBC's Tuesday lineup, while "Kidnapped" could join the current Wednesday bookends "Deal or No Deal" and "Law & Order."

Legal drama "Shark" continues to look sharp at CBS with "Smith," the untitled Carol Mendelsohn project, "Jericho," the untitled Peter Ocko project and "Company Town" also in contention.

Meanwhile, the freshman drama "Close to Home" is said to be looking good to return next season.

Comedy-wise, "The Class" is still considered the front-runner, with "Inseparable," the untitled Tom Hertz project and "The Big Bang Theory" in the mix.

Fox, which already picked up three dramas -- "Primary," "Vanished" and "American Crime" -- is said to be mulling a possible pickup for another, with "Damages," "Beyond" and "Southern Comfort" in the running.

On the comedy side, "The Winner" is all but set to join previously picked up " 'Til Death."

CBS' drama pilot "Ultra" is said to be in serious consideration for a pickup at the CW, which is said to be not very pleased with its drama pilots.

This bodes well for the chances of UPN's "Veronica Mars" and WB Network's "One Tree Hill" and "Everwood" to make the move to the CW.

"Flirt" is still considered hot on the comedy side.

I seriously think ABC will program on Saturdays. They are bringing a lot of new shows and are bringing back Jim, George and Freddie even. The Lost case is so interesting. Tuesdays

DWTS could still be Wednesday/Thursday.

I will be totally surprised if ABC puts anything original on Saturday so I'm not even going to bother. I REALLY don't like Freddie on Tuesday(or anywhere for that matter). If they put it anywhere, it needs to be on Saturday because it'll get horrible ratings and bust up what could be a great Tuesday.

Any of the other comedies, I dunno, Midseason? I think ABC may have TOO MANY new shows.

A Early Look at the NBC Fall Schedule
From Rachel Thomas,
Your Guide to TV Dramas.
Commentary By: Jimmie Manning, About.com Television Columnist

While NBC has been beaten about by the press for its decline in quality and lack of bona fide hits, the acquisition of a Sunday football roster – in addition to new projects featuring respected talent – may put the network back on the map. According to insiders, NBC has some strong drama pilots, will continue to struggle with comedy, and will make use of the network’s biggest hit of the past season: Deal or No Deal. A look night by night:

MONDAY
Talk has NBC placing a new series, Heroes, as a companion to Medium. Other insiders report that Heroes will be held until midseason and will run after football has concluded, making way for Law & Order: CI to run on Monday. Deal or No Deal will almost certainly start the night, with Medium returning as the Monday night anchor.

TUESDAY
The latest reports have old faithful ER moving to this night or Wednesday. If ER moves, expect it to compete against Lost on Wednesday. More likely for Tuesday are another round of The Biggest Loser and new drama Kidnapped. Law & Order: SVU will remain on the night.

WEDNESDAY
Insiders predict new drama The Black Donnellys will end up on the night, but others in the know suggest that show will likely end up being held for midseason. ER may be expected to compete against Lost and provide a push for fading favorite Law & Order. While talk has circulated for Deal or No Deal to open the night, more likely is an installment of Dateline NBC.

THURSDAY
Until recently, a lineup of My Name is Earl, The Office, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and ER was expected; however, recent reports suggest that Earl and The Office will tent pole new comedies (including a new project, 20 Good Years, starring John Lithgow) with Studio 60 closing out the night. Expect either to happen as NBC tries to generate some much-needed publicity for its fading Thursday.

FRIDAY
A Las Vegas and Crossing Jordan pairing looks likely, at least until football has come to a close. Deal or No Deal will likely open the night. Some trades have speculated that Friday Night Lights will open the night, but insiders expect that series to air on Sunday once football has come to a close.

SATURDAY
The network will once again air movies and specials on this typically quiet night.

SUNDAY
NBC likely has a hit, until at least midseason, with football. Programming centered around football will run throughout the night until mid-January. After January, it is expected that the successful Law & Order: CI and Crossing Jordan will return to Sunday. Dateline NBC and the new Friday Night Lights, based on the movie of the same name, will likely open the night post-football.

I think ABC will pick up Brothers & Sisters--whether it be for the fall or mid-season. They made 4 episodes I believe. So that would be a waste if they don't pick it up.
You know Calista? Are you Harrison Ford? :)

sittingonastar
05-12-2006, 01:05 AM
lol! no I am not Harrison or Calista. Actually they only shot the pilot. Calista and Rachel are getting paid for 6 episodes regardless of a pickup. So ABC should make them work for all that money, don't ya think?

This is what I would like to ideally see happen with Lost, rather than it premiering in November.

Premiere: October 5th with new episodes until November 30th (9 in total, with a cliffhanger on the last one)
Then: February 8th to the season finale on May 24th, with two repeats or preemptions stuck in.

This assumes that the series does 24 episodes again, as it has for the past two seasons.

ABC could squeeze out two more episodes with recap specials. This way, ABC gets the show for every sweeps period, we get straight runs of episodes and everybody goes home happy. I'm sure this won't happen, but it's my dream.

Oh and about 7th Heaven returning... this is from Kristin.

My sources at the CW tell me this would only happen if they were "desperate," so I'm guessing their pilots didn't turn out as well as expected.

I'm also told regarding Veronica Mars that A) Dawn Ostroff is "the only one who wants it to come back and is fighting hard for it" but B) Kristen Bell tells me she's pretty sure she'll be in New York next week for the upfronts ... So ... I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE that Veronica Mars WILL come back!

Man, it's nuts today.

From Variety:

Meanwhile, reversing earlier buzz to the contrary, NBC has ordered six episodes of the Andy Richter laffer "Andy Barker, P.I." for midseason. Half-hour comedy comes from NBC Universal TV Studio and Conaco Prods., and stars Richter as an accountant who stumbles into a gig as a private investigator.

Hopefully it was put to rest. Just the thought of Charles Pratt running a show on his own terrifies me. The man has no respect for anyone.

A big old YAY to "Brothers and Sisters" and "Ugly Betty" being picked up. B&S looks like it will be very good. UB looks like it will be a nice mix between comedy and drama. I happened upon a hispanic version on Univision last night and even though I didn't know the language, it looked like something that would translate well to the United States. Just change the title though. I think it would be cool if they keep the original title, "Betty La Fea." But then again, about two years ago I hated the title "Desperate Housewives."

Also a big YAY to "Friday Night Lights" at NBC. I've only seen tiny bits and pieces of the movie, but the thought of a drama focused on the members of a high school football team just excites me. There are endless possibilities with the idea and I can see this being a midsize hit if it's scheduled right (here's a hint, NBC: do NOT put it on Fridays in September, October, or November!).

Brent88
05-12-2006, 09:03 PM
Ugly Betty will most likely be a summer series, and then if it hits, comes back for midseason.

Not coming back: "Freddie," the frosh comedy starring Freddie Prinze Jr.

I guess by canceling Freddie, ABC has done their annual thing of bringing on a bunch of new sitcoms every year and canceling them all the following season. The only survivor from last year's new sitcoms is the one that deserves to be renewed the least : Sons & Daughters.

I am sure we will be here next year and ABC will be canceling all the new ones again, which has become an annual event with them. I am glad I do not watch as much ABC since they canceled 8 Simple Rules. There is no sense in attaching yourself to a new ABC sitcom, because it will probably get canceled the next season anyway.

Sometimes ABC baffles me. Today has been a complete mess of poor decisions IMO.

At FOX, The O.C., The War at Home, and The Loop are renewed.

I guess the only current sitcom still left in limbo for ABC is Hope and Faith ? I say renewed and a mid season replacement like Less Than Perfect last year.

I doubt it now. George and Jim actually had plenty of episodes already for syndication while Hope and Faith didn't, which is why I believed Hope and Faith was the frontrunner.

Oh well. I don't know where they are going to put all these new comedies to begin with. Maybe create a new day? :p

Actually, it is not as many as you think. Last year they renewed 6 sitcoms and picked up 5 new ones for a total of 11. This included fall schedule and mid season replacement. So far, they have renewed three if you include Sons & Daughters and picked up 5 new sitcoms for a total of 8. I can see them taking another few aboard be it new ones or Hope & Faith. Most of them will fail anyway, and not even make it through the season. So at least they will have more sitcoms on the bench to replace failed ones.

Well, counting what ABC has picked up, and the shows that are defintely or already confirmed as returning, they have 22.5 hours of programming already, and there's only 22 hours a week. I think we might see some original programming on Saturday afterall.

I think we may see Saturday, too. However, I think they are covering themselves by putting a lot of stuff on the bench. I think they will be quick to remove failed shows next year, and replace them with other shows. For example, I don't think you'll see a show like Hot Properties get 13 episodes next year. I think they will pull a show with numbers like that one had after 5 or 6 shows and go to the next show. I think, they think they need quantity to come up with some quality.

URGENT!

In related news, due to the strength of ABC's pilots, ABC has decided to schedule original programming on Saturdays in this upcoming Fall Season. This announcement was quickly followed by another statement from ABC stating that Midseason, they will introduce a new day of the week to Schedule for. ABC Flursday (preliminary title only, expect changes to The Flurs or possibly Flursday in Trees) will be filled with a variety of the recent 42 pilots ABC has picked up for next season.

Some news on The CW:

http://goldderbyforums.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/1106078764/m/2771038923/r/4271068923#4271068923

The latest of what I know -- from a CW employee just moments ago:

*7th Heaven is not necessarily going to return -- but everything is in line if the CW wants it. If it does return, expect it to lead in Runaway and for Everwood to have a 13 episode wrap-up on the net. But the stories that are dotting entertainment websites right now are not to be believed -- 7th Heaven is only 50/50. For the sake of Everwood, I hope it is a no go.

*Veronica Mars is in a bit of trouble because of Ultra. Now it, too, might only have a 13-episode committment as Ultra takes the whole season post Gilmore. The drama about the girl who has two different lives is supposedly a goner.

*The status of One Tree Hill and Palm Springs is the same. Either may follow Model/Geek.

*Supernatural is in okay shape. It and Smallville will likely pair for a night.

*While the Nick Lachey comedy looks like it may not be a go because of fit, it still has a pretty good chance. Flirt is pretty much a done deal, and so is The Game.

*Invasion is not going to happen. My source seemed pretty sure about that. I guess it moving is more of an idea of the producers than it is of the CW.

I promise to keep you all posted. The only thing that has me worried is that because of the lackluster ratings of the VM finale the CW really wants to shorten it next season -- and sometimes these "let's shorten it" talks turn into a no-go by either the producer or the nets.

My head really hurts. ABC is so unpredictable and the choices are bad. I think McPherson will ruin the network, its doing well now but his programming choices are a disaster waiting to happen. He picks up some new sitcoms only to cancel them next year, cancels most existing sitcoms except the few that don't deserve it in the least and is relying on 2-3 shows to keep the network running. I really hope NBC picks up Scrubs, I do not want that mad man in charge of it. CBS is doing the usual, I would usually call that boring but with ABC's programming system (I imagine McPherson lets his dog pick?) then the gentle approach of Les Moonves is calming! FOX is so unpredictable you can predict it, but thats FOX. NBC seems to be the only network than get new programming, keep some old shows and not end up with schedule filled with terrible new comers and aging crap shows. The CW, no idea what to think - but that can be expected, the 7th Heaven pick up is a mystery. I think they have some real development troubles. I wonder if Aaron Spelling was planning to retire, if 7th Heaven was pulled he would have no shows on air (he is in his 80's now) I think he'll stay with the show now, he is only a buisness producer after all.

Without actually seeing the pilots, you guys can't tell if these are good choices or not. I've seen some high profile pilots in the past that were not picked-up and I agreed why they were not (like last year's Kristin Davis drama). Reading just the descriptions is not at all a good way to determine picking up shows. They have test runs, exeuctives watch them--so it is not a one person job at all. Plus, nothing is official until the day the schedule comes out. I have learned that from the past. Don't get into the hype!

Fred Goss (star and creator of Sons & Daughters) posted on his blog that Sons & Daughters has been canceled by ABC. Sad news because that show was well written and was very smart. The average American doesn't like that type of humor I guess. That's America for you, I guess.

Still no word on Invasion. Sorry that DeadlineHollywood site says it is not coming back, but they have been wrong in previous seasons. So, until I hear it from ABC, Warner Bros., any trades, or a star/producer, the show is still not canceled. Freddie is canceled, the trades reported that one.

Scrubs & Arrested Development don't fare well in ratings, but never have I seen so many people say the show is so bad, people are calling for it to be cancelled (and they got their wish). I saw Fred Goss on a chat show and he was pretty funny ('Pot doesn't kill brain cells, brain cells kill brain cells') and I was lucking forward to the show, but the Pilot was terrible. I couldn't find any jokes, maybe they were visual jokes that I missed after the 4 minute mark when I stuck my head down the toilet, but it was really bad. I don't get it at all, maybe it got better (ie. adding jokes) but I couldn't bring myself to watch it again. I can atleast find dumb jokes in ABC's other sitcoms, but here ... nothing.

The pilot was the worst episode. The series got better and better with each episode, I think. you can't judge a show just by one episode...And you're not in America, are you? I guess you were not smart enough to pick up on the jokes or just watched just one episode. Some of the smartest people I know, loved it. And some of the dumbest people I know who watched it, hated it. I guess that answers my question.

And I myself really prefer traditonal sitcoms, but this one was an exeception.

So Superbowl, now that they have canceled it, what dumb move will you say they will do next? Since you kept saying it would be a dumb move to pick-up this sitcom just like they did with Jake in Progress.

I watched 4 or 5 of that showed and hated it. I could not watch it anymore. Very rarely do I have a sitcom I actually cannot even watch. Even Jake In Progress I watched most of them that first year.

As to what they will do, it really doesn't matter with ABC. All they do is have a spinning merry go round there anyway. Every year it is bring in a new crop of sitcoms and cancel almost all of them the next year. By the way, by canceling Freddie and Sons & Daughters now they batted a thousand last year. They brought on 5 new sitcoms and canceled them all within a year. I bet most of this entries will be gone within a year, too.

So would you have canceled them too if you were in their place? Let's face it, none really brought in numbers. They are plugging and trying to find a sitcom hit. According to Jim and George Lopez did decent enough pre-American Idol.

You never know by adding new shows. Look what happened with DH, Lost and Grey's Anatomy. All big hits and ABC is looking for at least one sitcom to perform like that. Which is hard, because sitcoms don't do as well as they did 10 years ago.

I think ABC is going all single camera comedies for the fall. Historically that has not been good, but the pilots must be really good for them to do this.

I would have kept Hope & Faith just for syndication (cross-promotion with Regis aswell) along with either Jim or Lopez depending on the roster of Multi-Camera pilots. I think the problem with the single camera full schedule is even if one of them is pretty popular, it really has tiny chance of being a hit. Single Camera's usually fail and if they find one that works, even then the numbers will be smaller than say Two and a Half Men.

I watched both S&D and AD. I love AD to death and own them on DVD (my only DVDs). S&D? Not so much. Yes, there were jokes on S&D, but overall, the show just wasn't very entertaining, as opposed to AD, which was extremely entertaining.

Don't get me wrong- you couldn't pay me to watch any other sitcoms that ABC has going right now (even LTP is going down the tubes). The only sitcoms on network tv that I find remotely watchable are: The Office, Scrubs, My Name is Earl (at times, it's too cutesy) & Everybody Hates Chris (ditto for the too cutesy). I would have said Old Christine, but that show got old very quickly.

A single camera sitcom night could work. NBC is going for that in the fall on Thursdays. The problem with ABC was that the single camera sitcoms they put, didn't have any other shows like it. Sons & Daughters and Jake in Progress were their own lead-in. And Emily's Reasons Why Not did actually do a 2.6 A18-49 rating, so it didn't completely bomb. It was more of what ABC thought of the quality of episodes after episode one. Ted Danson in a single camera comedy will be interesting to see. If they do that on Tuesdays, it will be a gamble with 4 new comedies, but they have nothing else to lose by doing it. I'd rather have 2 new comedies, followed by Boston Legal and a new drama.

It's pretty good. Brian won't be leading off Friday Nights though(and likely won't air on Fridays). It got good numbers among Adults 18-34, and that core audience isn't home on Friday. Where on mediaweek.com? I think you might have read Berman's opinions. He never watched the show but always downplays it because of the ratings.

Actually, I misspoke. Not MediaWeek (and Berman is an idiot, I only read his column for the actual ratings because I'm an idiot and he gives them in millions  ). I got it from here: http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/urgent-abc-picks-up-4-more/

Brent posted that the other day. I'm surprised no one saw way down at the bottom... Granted, nothing is 100% official until ABC makes their announcement ...

I look forward to the Ted Danson sitcom - but I fear it will be another bad single-camera show, although I don't see Ted Danson doing Jake in Progress ;).

Looking forward to 'Daybreak' on ABC.

But I'm still wondering what the heck happened to 'Aquaman on the CW? Was it a bad script or lack of preparation. It was heavily hyped and everything.

I am very uncertain about some of this but here is my final NBC prediction:

Mondays
8:00pm-Deal or No Deal
9:00pm-Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip(New!)
10:00pm-Heroes(New!)

*Studio 60 is either airing here or on Thursday in 10 in place of ER. Medium could stay at 10, but I doubt it.

Tuesdays
8:00pm-Friday Night Lights(New!)
9:00pm-The Black Donnellys(New!)
10:00pm-Law and Order: SVU

*No clue about 8pm, pretty sure The Black Donnellys will air on this night.

Wednesdays
8:00pm-The Apprentice
9:00pm-Kidnapped(New!)
10:00pm-Law and Order

*Apprentice could be held til Midseason to air on Sundays, Kidnapped seems like a good companion to Law and Order.

Thursdays
8:00pm-My Name is Earl
8:30pm-The Office
9:00pm-The Singles Table(New!)
9:30pm-Tina Fey(New!)
10:00pm-ER

*Not sure how the comedy schedule exactly will be, and Studio 60 could air at 10, leaving ER for Midseason

Fridays
8:00pm-Deal or No Deal
9:00pm-Las Vegas
10:00pm-Medium

*I think this night is probably the easiest of them all(except for Sunday), the only question in my mind is what to do at 10pm.

Sundays
Football

Only one I'm pretty confident about:

CBS FALL 2006 / 2007 SCHEDULE

SUNDAYS
7PM 60 Minutes
8PM Cold Case
9PM Capital Law
10PM Without a Trace

* Most logical scenario. I can't see them launching two new dramas after Cold Case...

MONDAYS
8PM How I Met Your Mother
8:30 The Class
9PM Two and a Half Men
9:30 The New Adventures of Old Christine
10PM CSI: Miami

* I can see them keeping this intact. IMO, moving Old Christine will kill it just like it killed Out of Practice. The Class goes well with How I Met Your Mother.

TUESDAYS
8PM NCIS
9PM Jericho
10PM The Unit

* Jericho seems to fit the best on this night. I could see it maybe at 10pm...

WEDNESDAYS
8PM The Amazing Race 10
9PM Criminal Minds
10PM CSI: New York

* No reason to change this night either. Amazing Race may be down in ratings, but I can't see it not on the fall schedule.

THURSDAYS
8PM Survivor 13
9PM CSI
10PM Shark

* can't see much of this changing, except a new drama at 10pm

FRIDAYS
8PM Ghost Whisperer
9PM Close to Home
10PM Numb3rs

* No reason to screw this night up, IMO.

SATURDAYS
8PM Either dramas or movies or both
10PM 48 Hour Mysteries

* No other choice here... lol.

----
FOX is the next easiest

FOX FALL 2006 / 2007 SCHEDULE

SUNDAYS
7PM NFL Overrun
7:30 King of the Hill
8PM The Simpsons
8:30 Futurama
9PM Family Guy
9:30 American Dad

* I agree that Futurama could come back. If not, I suppose plug in The Loop or War at Home and put Bernie Mac on Fridays.

MONDAYS
8PM Prison Break ( Sept-Dec )
9PM Vanished ( Sept-Dec )

* Seems to fit together

TUESDAYS
8PM American Crime
9PM House, M.D.

* Seems to fit together

WEDNESDAYS
8PM Bones
9PM Primary

* The two shows fit together

THURSDAYS
8PM The O.C.
9PM Southern Comfort

* Most logical...

FRIDAYS
8PM The War at Home
8:30 'Til Death
9PM The Loop
9:30 Happy Hour

* Bernie Mac could come back here, but since they renewed 'The Loop' ... I could see them switching around The Loop and War at Home, though.

SATURDAYS
8PM Cops
8:30 Cops
9PM America's Most Wanted

And of course, Mid-Season: American Idol (s6); 24; On The Lot; The Wedding Planner

---
ABC is a freaking mystery to me. I am having a REALLY hard time trying to figure them out. I think with Secrets of a Small Town out, we'll see Brothers and Sisters or Men in Trees go to Sunday @ 10pm.

SUNDAYS
7PM - Americas Funniest Home Videos
8PM - Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
9PM - Desperate Housewives
10PM - Brothers and Sisters

MONDAYS
8PM - What About Brian?
9PM - Grey's Anatomy
10PM - Six Degrees

TUESDAYS
8PM - ??
9PM - Boston Legal
10PM - Day Break

WEDNESDAYS
8PM - ???
9PM - Dancing with the Stars 3 / Lost (in Nov)
10PM - Traveler

THURSDAYS
8PM - ???
8:30 - Dancing with the Stars 3: Results Show
9PM - The Bachelor (???)
10PM - Primetime Live

FRIDAYS
8PM - Supernanny
9PM - Wife Swap
10PM - 20/20

SATURDAYS
8PM - George Lopez
8:30 - Notes From The Underbelly
9PM - According to Jim
9:30 - Help Me Help You
10PM - Men in Trees

-----
NBC is also a mess to me, but I'll try (and I like Brent's schedule)

SUNDAYS
7PM - Football (Fall) / Dateline NBC (Midseason)
8PM - Football (Fall) / Friday Night Lights
9PM - Football (Fall) / Crossing Jordan
10PM - Football / Law & Order: SVU

MONDAYS
8PM - Deal or No Deal
9PM - The Apprentice 6
10PM - Medium

* Maybe wishful thinking, but it's doing fairly well, so why change it? I could see Raines on this night...

TUESDAYS
8PM - The Biggest Loser
9PM - Scrubs
9:30 - The Singles Table
10PM - Law & Order: Criminal Intent

* My best guess, lol. I suppose 20 Good Years can go in place of TST...

WEDNESDAYS
8PM - Deal or No Deal
9PM - The Black Donnellys
10PM - Law & Order

* Probably what will happen

THURSDAYS
8PM - My Name is Earl
8:30 - Community Service
9PM - The Office
9:30 - Tina Fey
10PM - Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

* Seems like a logical bet that they'd try this

FRIDAYS
8PM - Deal or No Deal
9PM - Las Vegas
10PM - Heroes

* Medium could go at 10pm, I suppose...

Mid-season: 20 Good Years; ER; Raines

My thought is that although Deal or No Deal is HUGE now, it could be overkill...

I won't even guess The CW.

NBC's Kidnapped Could Get Summer Launch

By Jim Benson -- Broadcasting & Cable, 5/14/2006 1:02:00 PM

The speculation intensified Sunday leading into this week’s network upfronts, with sources saying NBC may give an early summer launch to Kidnapped, the Sony drama starring Jeremy Sisto and Dana Delaney.

There was also considerable speculation that NBC was considering putting its heavily hyped new Warner Bros. drama Friday Night Lights at 10 p.m. Monday in place of Medium. Another scenario had it moving to 10 p.m. Thursday, the long-time home of Warner Bros. aging ER, considered a more compatible slot if NBC decides to keep My Name is Earl and The Office during the preceding hour.

The fate of an untitled Tina Fey project could reportedly hinge on a deal being finalized with Alec Baldwin. NBC declined to comment on schedule-related matters Sunday.

The CW, meanwhile, declined to comment on reports that Warner Bros.’ Invasion, canceled by ABC, would move to the new network that it co-owns with CBS. Among other shows axed by ABC are the comedies Hope & Faith and Freddie.

Aaron Spelling’s 7th Heaven will be given a reprieve for an 11th season if higher-paid cast members agree to take a salary cut. And ABC, which has had little luck with freshman series this past season, is bringing at least one back, the month-old What About Brian.

Of the new pilot offerings, ABC has given commitments to Big Day, formerly A Day in the Life, about the various viewpoints of those taking part in a wedding, and an untitled heist comedy with Donal Logue and Mick Jagger from Burnett/Beckermen. They join 10 other series picked up by the network last week.

Additionally, Fox Friday handed out an order for Fox Television Studios’ Wedding Album, about a New York photographer and his assistant, and a six-episode comedy order to Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane for s show titled The Winner. It centers on a 40-year-old guy (Rob Corddry of The Daily Show) who, after attaining success, looks back on his years as a slacker.

Fox also provided a 13-episode renewal order for midseason comedy The Loop, renewed The War at Home for its sophomore season and provided a commitment for another year of The O.C.

I am happy for The Loop, amid a high crap load on FOX - this show isn't that bad, it certainly deserves renewing in the quality department. Its half good.

I see ABC going with Jim and George to lead off Saturdays, followed by a new drama, and then maybe Primetime Live. Hope & Faith is now dead, so they probably won't do a 4 comedy night on Saturdays. I'm saddened by the Invasion news, I really hope CW gets it.

I'm disappointed "Invasion" was cancelled as well. I can't see the CW picking it up, but I'll hold out hope.

"Hope & Faith" being cancelled isn't all that surprising but I thought they might of held it off for mid-season, like they did this year to "Less Than Perfect". Is that officially cancelled, too? I've heard nothing about it. I'm assuming after it's summer run (anyone know how many episodes will air?) it's gone for good, which is another shame. ABC has so many good sitcoms but they never do well. Ugh.

Pavan
05-14-2006, 06:05 PM
No chance for Less Than Perfect to return again. Hope & Faith I think has 73 episodes, that should be enough for locals or at least a cable deal for reruns.

Superbowl
05-14-2006, 06:50 PM
I am surprised about Hope & Faith. I thought they would bring it back as a midseason replacement like Less Than Perfect. 73 Episodes is enough for syndication ? Than how come when 8SR was canceled with 76 episodes everyone said they canceled even though it needed another year of syndication ?

Pavan
05-14-2006, 06:53 PM
8 Simple Rules is in syndication now, isn't it? Hope & Faith will get into syndication still, but not the normal one, more like 8 Simple Rules. The normal one I think they need at least 88 episodes. They brought back the right two shows--both Jim and George have done better than H&F. H&F compared to Jim Tuesdays at 9, was no comparison. Jim did much better, not airing against AI.

In time, we will see both shows on locals at some point. Shows like Munsters, What's Happening, etc have under 70 episodes each and have been in reruns forever. Even Dinosaurs, a BV product, was on locals for a while in the 90s, and that only had 65 episodes.

Brent88
05-14-2006, 06:55 PM
8SR airs on the WB in the afternoons(what happens once The CW comes along?)

Superbowl
05-14-2006, 06:56 PM
Is 8SR considered to be in syndication ? I thought that was a deal with the WB for the "Daytime WB" ? I guess it is semantics, but I just thought since the show is run by the whole WB network it is not considered syndication.

Superbowl

Here is another question. Last year ABC had 11 sitcoms on board. 6 renewed and 5 new ones be it on the Fall schedule or as a mid season replacement. This year they only have 7. 2 renewed and 5 new ones. So what happens if some of these fail early like Hot Properties, Jake ,and Emilys Reason Why not did last year. Do they have enough on the bench to replace these with only 7 in inventory ?

Pavan
05-14-2006, 07:02 PM
It is a form of syndication. You even see the BV International logo at the end of the show.

8 Simple Rules is only slated to appear until September. After that, The CW will determine whether or not they will continue to air it, because Reba will be joining the rerun line-up then. If they pass on 8SR, then BV could sell it to a cable network or maybe some locals, if the ratings were decent enough on The WB.

They have enough dramas picked-up to back them up. We still don't know how they are going to use the 5 new sitcoms. Perhaps 4 for the fall and one for mid-season? Too early to tell right now. But they have 7 or 8 new dramas, and there is no way all of them will be for the fall.

I'm hoping a rough schedule comes out tonight or tomorrow morning.

NBC finally confirms its pick-up of Untitled Tina Fey show, new show Friday Night Lights looks good for Monday 8 PM, Earl, 20 Good Years, Office and Studio 60 set for Thursday night.
