Anyone seen this little short lived gem? I can see why it didn't last, it should have been less goofy and a little more serious. I think they chose the wrong guys for the girls husbands. I would have also liked to see cameos by their sister and brothers.

Being a lifelong Brady fan, I went POSITIVELY GOOFY about the debut of the Brady Brides, but, like you, was disappointed, even as a 12 year old, by the cheap laughs the writers seemed to strive for.

Another thing I feel they got wrong was the fact that they turned the march-to-the-beat-of-her-own-drum Jan into a conformist and the ever-popular Marcia into a non-conformist.

If anything, Marcia would have grown up to marry Jan's husband, Phillip, and vice versa for Jan and Marcia's husband, Wally.

The Marcia I knew never would have allowed herself to marry such a f*ck-up like Wally, while Jan surely would have selected a man that wasn't interested at all in "fitting in."

Another plot device no one has ever thought of (and what, in my opinion as a gay man, speaks to the truth of Eve Plumb's never-ending moodiness) would have been to feature Jan as a lesbian.

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

I don't think the brothers needed to make an appearance because it would have been the Brady Bunch all over again-lol

i loved the show and thought jerry houser as wally was great but i do agree that jan would have never grown up to marry such a boring stick in the mud like philip it just didnt ring true

They needed different husbands, though I did like the concept. It still would've been nice to see one of the brothers make an appearance. I bought the complete series, beginning with The Brady Girls Get Married from iOffer. My favorite episode was when they went on the Newlywed Game.

Who would want to watch a show with just Marcia, Jan, Carol, and Alice? It would have been nice if Mike, Sam, Greg, Peter, Bobby, Cindy, and Oliver made seperate or even family appearances. Don't ya think?

You have to figure...the girls went to college and became adults. The environment probably did influence them a bit. Jan's choice of architecture was a predominately man's field and is a bit on the conformist side, so she had to succeed in the business world, but I still saw some of her old Jan in her, just older. Also, she dated stick-in-the-mud Philip for 2 years before marrying him, so those things were probably a big influence on her.

For Marcia, becoming a fashion designer probably exposed her to a non-conformity world. For her being a popular girl, it suited her and those things probably influenced her to loosen up a bit. Wally, I think was the class clown and was also one I see as popular. They wouldn't have dated in hs though bc she was into jocks like Doug Simpson. Being older and wiser, she fell for Wally, who is a good match for her.

The series tried too much to interject a Three's Company type of innuendo into the Brady world. Harry, the neighbor kid, was totally a unnecessary character.

I know this was called 'The Brady Brides' but Mike wasn't in the episodes, huh?

Just the part where they get married?

Yeah, pretty much. Carol was in almost all of them, and Mike was mentioned frequently.

The Brady Brides first four episodes were actually "The Brady Girls Get Married" broken up and reedited. And the ratings were high for those early shows. By the time, it settled down to the routine of just the two couples, with Mom and Alice dropping in, the audience quickly tired of the very sophomoric scripts. When NBC renewed Harper Valley, but not the Brady Brides, SS got mad at NBC and quit Harper Valley as well.
Had the Brides went on to a second year, I imagine we would have seen more cameos from the other Brady siblings, possibly Robert Reed as well. (His series "Nurse" was already canceled by this time, so he would have been free).

I just saw Ron Kuhlman (Jan's hubby, Philip) as a hapless INS agent in an episode of The Munsters Today. His equally befuddled partner was played by Gregory Sierra (:eyes:), who co-starred with Eve in The Night the Bridge Fell Down.

I have this dvd and have to watch it still. I do with The Brady Brides would have been renewed, I really liked the show.

Why do networks air shows that they seem want to fail instead of making sure the scripts are top notch if they want their network to be #1??

I really liked that movie. It's pretty funny to see Desi Jr. and Eve on screen together again - because of the type of character he plays in Bridge.

I still have never seen the Brady Brides but I have a feeling it will be released to DVD someday. I'd like to watch it.

I very vaguely remember this but I know I saw a few eps. at some point.

I forget exactly when it might have been or what channel it was on but I remember I saw a marathon of the show about a decade ago.

I really don't remember much about it but I know that I've seen it.

Had Sherwood bothered to hire talented writers to flesh out the two husbands and not resort to sophomoric (and too much Three's Company style humor--which works for Three's Company but not for Bradys) situations, the show could have had a real chance. It could have been a sophisticated early 80s look at newlyweds and their adjustments.

^ It would've been interesting to see where they could've gone. The actors were fine - they were just given less than inspired material, though most people seem to enjoy the episode where they go on The Newlywed Game. Was TNG also on NBC at that time and they were doing a cross promotion?

No, TNG was still in syndication (the reruns of the 70s version and just before the '80s revival hit with that orange looking set). I gotta admit, that's my fave BBrides episode

This, of course, is when NBC (and the other networks) had shows worth watching!! Was Fred Silverman still the big cheese at NBC in 1981?
