View Full Version : People who go through the express lane with over 10 items
Chocoholic 04-27-2006, 04:53 PM Are they math majors who can't read or English majors who can't count? Or fine arts majors who can't do either one? ;)
Seriously, people who go through the express lane with far more than 10 items is such a pet peeve of mine. I think they are so inconsiderate. I must admit though, if I have one or two items over the limit and the regular lines are long, I'll go through the express lane if there's no line. I think it's very frustrating to have a small amount of items and get stuck behind someone with an overflowing cart.
Chad Michael Murray 04-27-2006, 05:03 PM I don't mind if it's just a couple of items over, but I hate when people have a cart FULL of stuff and do it.
Actually, what I hate more is when people go through the "Self Check" line with a cart full of stuff like that. I go through there when I have just a couple of items and want to scan it quickly. It annoys me when someone takes like 15 minutes in that line because they keep having issues, considering the fact that those lines aren't MADE for people who have an entire cart full of stuff. What makes it even worse is when it's some buffoon who has NO idea how to use the thing.
dawsongirl 04-27-2006, 05:03 PM LOL...funny choices.
Yeah, if you have 25 items, I don't care how small they are, go wait in another line! Impatience is not an excuse.

Oh yes! People do that at Wal-Mart all the time! I want to inform them that there's this unspoken rule that those self-checkouts are also 10 items and under. And NOT for idiots.

FOR REAL!! What annoys me is that usually, you can only scan so many things before the belt reaches the 'limit' at the end and you have to bag that stuff before you can scan anything else. It stops the ENTIRE process, and I get pretty pissed off when I'm standing behind a bunch of fools who end up stopping it 3 or 4 times to go empty that thing because there's so much stuff. What annoys me about it even MORE is if I'm standing there with one item, and every line is full and I think the self check will be quick, and instead I'm standing there for 10 minutes waiting for them.
In my mind, sometimes I take whatever item I have and clock the person in the back of the head with it. That always makes me feel better.
Chocoholic 04-27-2006, 05:19 PM I don't bother with the self-checkouts. Do I get to pay myself for using them? I'd rather have a live human being ring up my groceries. We are losing too many jobs to computerization.

I only use them when I have a couple things and want to get out of the store. The ones at Wal-Mart are so picky that it's aggrivating. If it doesn't weigh much, the sensor that the bags sit on (so I guess it can tell you didn't pocket it...who knows why that makes sense...) doesn't pick it up, and then you can't scan your next item. So then a human has to come over and fix the machine. Argh.
And ...I've thought of the fact that I'm not getting paid to do this too.

¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 04-28-2006, 12:41 PM Theyre just plain ignorant. I hate when Im on express and someone with 30+ items comes and asks if they can come through my express lane since all the other regular lines are busy. Then all at once it seems everyone with 1 or 2 items comes behind them and gets pissed. I hate that they thing just because I have no one in my line for about 1 minute they can come through my line. Gotta love the people too with a full cart and then at the end go "Oh!! This was express??? I just saw the sign." Riiiiight. /bitter cashier

SELF CHECKOUTS ARE THE WORST. I love them, but I also know how to use them. It attracts the stupid people who dont know what theyre doing. They think theyre saving time because God forbid they have to stand in a line with 2 other people. Then they start yelling and swearing at it because it messes up and 20 minutes later theyre done.
swedeace 04-28-2006, 12:47 PM I wrote a reply in this thread yesterday, but I accidentally closed the window right before I hit "submit." I was sooooo annoyed and angry I didn't even wanna re-type it all, but I will try and remember what I wanted to say verbatim.
I would rather call these people more "ignorant" than stubborn. It really isn't fair if someone really does have close to 10 items and want to hurry to pay and leave.
Ireneparalegal 04-28-2006, 12:52 PM what abt the people who have a mega cart full of s**t and just when you think they are done here comes their kids with more stuff that they grabbed at the last minute!!!????? Then they pull out their checkbook AFTER the cashier tells them the total...%$#@!!!!*&#!
BTW Sweadace: when you are typing a long post, it's best to do it as if you were going to email it, than just copy and paste it here. that way if it doesn't submit, you at least still have your "post" on your write mail page and can just submit it again. I do that when I have long posts.

EXACTAMUNDO!!
I'm so glad there are other people who share my anger about this.
rusyd 04-28-2006, 01:09 PM I hate when people do that. The sign 10 items or less is there for a reason.

I just thought of another mini rant about this, too, relating to that.
For some reason or another, I think that people with a cart full of stuff must see the 10 items or less sign and think "Oh, gee, this line will probably go by fast! I'm sure it won't make a difference if I go through it." Because naturally, for some people, they assume that it's okay for them because they'll be the ONLY people to do that the entire day or something.
I just wanna be like "Okay, NEWSFLASH: if we all acted the way you act, we'd all be here for a week! NOW GO BACK TO YOUR DESIGNATED LINE!"

:yeahthat
That's what I originally wrote in my post that didn't go through yesterday. I'm glad you wrote it out. I forgot to put it in this morning's post. Yeah, it's annoying because these people might think it's not a big deal, but it is to the others who have 10 or less items and are in a hurry.
80s_Fan 04-28-2006, 02:43 PM I hate those people; no consideration for others.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 04-28-2006, 09:43 PM At the grocery stores I go to (Pick N Save) the express lanes are "about 20 items or less". OK, to me "about 20" items is a lot! Sometimes I'm checking out like 2 things so I use the express lane and of course the person in front of me has 20 items and it takes longer! They need a super express line for 5 items or less.
Georgia's on my Mind 04-28-2006, 09:52 PM I think I'm one of the people you guys hate...I go through the automatic self checkout machienes with approx 432432432 different types of fruits and veggies that need to be weighed and hand entered...people get all irritated.
vienna waits 07-24-2006, 01:41 PM Yeah it's 12 items or less at Meijer (where I work). I hate the people that say "oh you aren't busy anyways." umm maybe I would like to have a minute to breathe, dummy. U-Scan is also 12 items or less here. I'm surprised that isn't an obvious rule elsewhere too.

I tell them off when I am express
cmcb06 07-24-2006, 03:12 PM I used to work as a cashier at a local grocery store. And drove me nuts, I was stationed at the express lane often. And almost everyday we had the wingnut who would come in with 30+ items. ANd you'd try to tell them it was only 10 and under as it said but they always got bitchy about it so you checked them out anyways it was soo disgusting.
At the store I work at it's ten or less, but I don't care if people are a few over. We are expected to take bigger cartloads if the express lane is empty and the regular lanes have lanes.
Dude111 10-08-2025, 09:49 PM I don't bother with the self-checkouts. Do I get to pay myself for using them? I'd rather have a live human being ring up my groceries. We are losing too many jobs to computerization.Exactly how I feel!!!!!
I would rather go thru a live person than use a self checkout.... Its stealing someones Job!!
You cant help some people..... They see an empty lane and just go right in.... Most dont even see the sign saying EXPRESS LANE . Most are so clueless now its sad.....
