I may have signed up in 2001 but I missed out on a lot of stuff. Its fun looking at the members list and seeing all the people who are not here anymore. For the people who have been here a while when do you think different eras started and when do you think they ended?

I remember back when Facts of Life was immensely popular and saying you didn't like Nancy McKeon made you worse than Hitler.

well, i can point out certain eras that were here while i was here...

Mid 2004 (May-August)- The Pre-Teen/Troll Era
There were a lot of pre-teens on the board during this time (me being one of them) and it seemed a lot of fights broke out with them. Also, summer 2004, there were TONS of surveys and news threads flooding the board that a lot of members began to get annoyed.

Also, from I am Him to OU812, there were a lot of trolls on the boards during this time, most were banned at the end of 2004 though.

Late 2004 (September-December)- The Dramatic Era
There seemed to be a lot of drama going on during this time. A lot of friends were lost over a lot of things. If you go back and read the boards during these times there were a lot of fights going on- all ending with the fight to end all fights- ...and...i'm not sure if people want me to say what it is.

Early 2005 (January- April)- The Peaceful Era/The New Era
After the rough days of Late 2004, the early days of 2005 seemed to be refreshing...there were hardly any fights going on during this time. Everyone seemed to be getting along. There were no trolls or friendship-ruining fights, just peace.

2005 also started some new things, such as the board upgrade and peace thing.

Mid 2005 (May- August)- The Miss Golden Era/The Dead Era
Mid 2005 marked one of SO's most famous and recent trolls- Miss Golden. Anyone who read even two of her posts would find she wasn't normal. The whole plot was about some wrestling forum and it eventually just got really weird. No one even knows what GENDER Miss Golden is, for they said once they were a girl and then they said they were a boy.

Mid 2005 seemed also to be a slow time for Chit Chat. Besides the Miss Golden madness, not much went on during that time.

Late 2005 (September- December)- The Growth Era
During this time, a lot of new members seemed to be joining. It was a time where new friends were being made and new posters were settling in.

Early 2006 (January- April)- The "Welcome Back" Era/The Present Era
Early 2006, the present era, I've found is an era where a lot of members who were MIA for the past 1-2 years are slowly returning back. A lot of old members are becoming regulars again.

Oh and 2006 shall forever be YEAR OF THE TEXAS SMURFTRACTORS http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/5766/papamcphee3yf.gif

The Random Board closed for a few weeks in the fall of 2003 after the Brandon S incident. We moved over and started a random thread on the Courtship Of Eddie's Father and Barney Miller boards. The fighting in 2003 was nothing like 2004 though. I still think 2003 is my favorite year on SO.

2004 for me :D

i liked 2004 because i had a LOT of friends here, and then in 2005, over half of them left the board, so 2005 just really sucked in general for me. i really had no friends here and it was just boring.

now, everyone is coming back, and 2006 is probably soon going to top 2004 as my favorite year here.

Oh god, Dorothy. :barf: I'm glad these days are OVER.

Yeah, there was some pretty vile fighting on Chit Chat in '03. Random Posts closed for a while (I think two weeks) in October of 2003, and there were a lot of pretty nasty threads before October of 2003, because there was no CC mod. It was just TJ and pavan at the time, and threads had to be reported repeatedly to catch his attention. So, he had to appoint Janice, and things got better after that.

And if you were here before July of 2003 or earlier, you most certainly will remember when images AND HTML were allowed in sigs. You can also remember when avatars could only be 125x125 (as opposed to the 150x150 it is now). I wasn't around when there were no avatars, methinks.

You were pretty wild in '03, too...I remember not liking you for a while, because I thought you had an attitude. You would say things to deliberately piss people off, etc. And I still remember how you would get pissed off when people said you were a punk.

And let us not forget Brett Ferino...

Summer-Fall/Winter 2002 : The RAINMAN era and 2002 part 2 - When I first started posting regularly, mostly on the Happy Days board, which is where I made most of my friends on here, oh and I remember Nate talknig to me a lto aobut stupid stuff. on AIM

Early 2003 The Ralph Malph Era, Part 2- THis is back when I still was obssesed with Ralph and Hapyp Days, sytil lam but not as much, this is when to me thigns started getting good

Summer- WWinter 2003 :: The Era of FIGHTING- The fights, the beginning of the four groups who posted to gether in Random, actually ti began in 2001, but 12003 when there was 4. The HD Mafia, The Party Thread People, The Night Owls ( aka Sonny, Kate, Tara, Allison , JP etc. ),The AI fans and other people hwo posted with them. ast hose were fun, oh and the DD, when Dorothy posted underc all those names, I mad emore posts than anyone, oh good times, 2003 WAST HE BEST YEAR EVER, after 2006

Early 2004- The Party Thread and HD Mafia COLLIDE - This was when well,., not much action went on until Marhc 2004, wehn us HDers started posting with the Party Thread peeps, and then we ALL started posting as the one big group in the HD board, that would soon end :(

Summer- Winter 2004- INVASION OF THE PRE-TEENS AND TROLLS- This is when Joe, Niki, and Mike first started out, they posted a lot, oh and may I add oen of them posted a gazillion JPl threads., oh and of them joined us at the AHD board, I bet you can guess those. Then, I am Him and 0U812 ast he trolls.

Then in late July 2004. Tragedy struck. No one died, no one lecft, but one of the biggest groups on teh board, The Party Thread peeps and trhe HDM had fallen after a fight. The HDCC closed, and we moved ro Random, oh yeah and the TKM too

May I add the same thing happened in December 2004. With the Night Owls

Early 2005- New SO look, one new admin, lots of action, for awhile,: These days are described here, some of these fallen groups came back too

Sumemr0 Winter 2005- I tsrated posting with the Night Owls, I had fun, this was also the arrival and Karen and Jeremy. oh and MISS GOLDEN!!!!!! and Rock Princess. The Miss golden gender thing was hilarious LOL

Then it just got boring, no posts , well hardly any, nothing.

Early 2006- THE TEXAS SMURFTARCTORS MAKE A COMEBACK, not as teh Smurftarctors though. Soem of these groups still are friends now

The AI opbbsession datys, thats gone forever here, but it happened with EVERY SMURFTARCTOR THIS YEAR!!!!

I got here in early 2004 and that was the era when quite a few of the individual sitcom boards were very active. By Winter 2004 it was the era of arguments, which others have already mentioned.

Early 2005 to Mid 2005 was fun, not alot of fights and some really good threads. Then by fall things slowed down a bit, but picked back up when some show boards got traffic again like Night Court and Good Times. Late 2005 to Early 2006 I'd say is the era of the spammer (we've seen alot) and the era of maturity, because the topics and post here seem more thought provoking than before.

MY impression of the state of the boards on Feb 4, 2003:

Since I first signed on I've noticed them and obviously you all have too. So what are some of your favorite and least favorite trends and talk on the boards?

Here's what I have seen since I came on:

1. Chico and the Man - it seemed like there was a thousand posts a day about this show. That has stopped.

2. Golden Girls - Young girls seem to like this the best. On and on it went for a while there. Still active.

3. Facts of Life - All girls and some young boys all over this show, nonstop talk. Still one of the most active boards maybe because of....

4. Nancy McKeon - absoulte bizarre fascination with this actress, role model(?) and champion of Lifetime (a channel I've yet to locate on my cable box).

5. Happy Days (mafia) - Happy Days fans are miffed at Facts of Life success and start to take over as number 1 posted board.

6. BeBe Neuwirth devotees - this has gone, but was relentless for a few months.

7. Fights on Chit Chat - that has calmed down, but it was ugly for a while. Age shows more than ever on the boards.

8. Rainman - Apparently Nate likes K-Mart, PBS, and boys. We got it Nate. Down boy.

And again on Nov 21, 2003:
Last time I posted this topic was in February 2003.

Here are seven trends since then:

1. If I Can't Have My Signature I'm Gone:

Gee, everybody was going nuts over the removal of signatures. TJ flipflopped to try and please people when it was never really a big deal to anyone who posted with the notion of having something to say. MY SIGNATURE DEFINES ME was the cry and some people left and some threatened to leave and some came back. The lot of you should have just gone away, you acted like 5 year olds.

2. Chit Chat - The Crisis and the Conservative - Liberal War

First there was the non-stop fighting almost resulting in the end of chit-chat. Then came the random post board to satisfy those who like to see threads with hundreds of pages. And of course there also came the Politics/Current Events Board - which might as well be labled "I'm not in front of you, so I'll say anything I want Board." Never has heated discussion reached such Kelvin proportions as liberals and conservatives, Michael Moore lovers and machine gun humpers, God lovers and agnostics, all go toe to toe with each other on a daily basis. Everyone is fearless at this board and never has anyone pissed off another more than here (I'm guilty of my own transgressions here too ;)).
When the heat dies down people pretend they are all friends but that is a load of crap.

3. Nancy McKeon

This trend lives and seems to be immortal. What is the fascination with her? Here are my last comments- "absolute bizarre fascination with this actress, role model(?) and champion of Lifetime (a channel I've yet to locate on my cable box"
Umm, ditto.

4. Post counters

Look at me click! I made a post!
Another outcry when TJ removed the post totals from beneath your name. Blasphemy, cried the people who threatened to leave with the signature removal. But alas, the post totals remain and people seem obsessed with quantity over quality. Can't wait for the "Post A Number" thread - forget random posts, might as well have Deliberate Post Total board.

5. John Ritter Love and Celebrity Deaths

John Ritter just might be the King of Sitcoms, an all around good actor and person and the embodiment of sitcom fun. And never was such attention deserved as with his passing. The boards exploded after his death and Ritter avatars and signatures were to be found everywhere.
Besides John there were many, many tv star/celebrity deaths, too many to even name them all. Johhny Cash, Charles Bronson, Robert Stack, Gregory Peck, Fred Berry, Gordon Jump, Bob Hope, Warren Zevon...you get the idea.
Bizzare and sad.

6. Aliases and Bannings

As of late there have been many people snagged for using more than one screen name. Some even saying as much in their posts when knowing full well that is not allowed or tolerated.
And also lately I have noticed that there is a bunch of people who have admitted they have been banned before- some 2 or 3 times! Hey, even I got a warning, but banned 3 times? Funny thing is, these posters are still going out on the offensive and even attacking TJ verbally. What is wrong with you people?

Oh, and by the way, I'm Dorothy.

7. The Wisdom of Solomon

Granted he is no Nate, but he is still recieving the kind of the bashing that the late great toejam K-Mart crossdresser once inspired. Whether it be the women are not good enough stuff, the Good Times is not a spinoff rant, or the I root against your team stance, Solomon is sure to bring about a post from the faithful.

And you know you might as well post, your post total is lacking and by the way your signature really sucks.
;)

Lessee....

December 12, 2001, I finally came to the boards looking for primo gab about the greatest show in the world, the Facts of Life. Since I was new to the whole chat thing, it took me a while to catch on to the whole thing. My username then was Tad Warner, after Blair's husband on the Facts of Life Reunion movie. Lucky guy. :D Back then, due to the popularity of the Facts of Life on cable, the board was the biggest thing on SO. Fights over Nancy McKeown were common. Blair alerts were also common. Meeting Lisa was the event of a lifetime for many of us.

Nearly halfway through 2002, not sure when exactly, I changed my name to Blair's My Cherry Pie, in homage to an 80's band that became popular as The Facts of Life was wrapping up its tenure on prime time airwaves in the late 80's, Warrant, whose 1990 hit "Cherry Pie" was a rather appropriate hit for a time when FOL and hair metal both ruled. Plus the reference to "Cherry Pie" was also due to an in-joke between myself and current MIA poster Karly (Kay Scarpetta, then known as LisaWhelchelForever) over one of Lisa's Family Dream entries.

Toward the fall of 2003, I again changed my name to Captain ABlairica, due to my interest in comic book drawing, and by this time, since FOL was no longer on cable, the FOL board lie in dormancy. By this time I had long found the Chit Chat board and made it a daily ritual to post and converse. By the fall of 2003, I embarked on my History of Rock and Roll thread, starting with the legends of the Mississippi Delta Blues era onward. This has continued to the present day (currently we are in a retrospective segment of 1999, featuring artists not significantly covered the first time).

In the past few months, my name morphed into ABlairican Pie, a sort of combination between the two previous last names, and an attempt to be more contemporary with the spin on the title of a popular song and movie.
Over the past few years we have seen the arrival and departure of many who have come and gone (the Current Events/Politics board being a verbal minefield for the above).

Oh gosh. So many memories. I don't exactly know what order these things happened in...

-The Division fights. Those were amazing. The board even got shut down for like two weeks. There was the Queen fight, the battling websites, and Sara, the girl who claimed she committed suicide because of me. Oh that was a thrill.

-Smiley in a jar. Holy god that was funny.

-"Why Not" started the entire random thread trend. But then Chris had to ruin the greatest thread ever and get it closed.

-SO romances. Those were good.

-Nancy McKeon fights were always amusing.

-Now American Idol has pretty much taken over the boards.

2003 was the year that a certain "wacky" poster joined SO...................:p :happyface I'll give you clue, "Janet, Miss Jackson if you're nasty!":p ;)

-"Why Not" started the entire random thread trend. But then Chris had to ruin the greatest thread ever and get it closed.

:D

-SO romances. Those were good.

I hated those. Caitlin and Jeff, Caitlin and ChrisE, Caitlin and Greg, all the I LOVE YOU and I MISS YOU BABY crap was annoying.

I remember back when Facts of Life was immensely popular and saying you didn't like Nancy McKeon made you worse than Hitler.
