View Full Version : Reasons for EXTREME HATRED of WGC

Maybe we should vent our frustrations.

Reason 1:

I hated the fact Demi Moore was on the show. Maybe we should have resurrected Elvis and brought him on.
Or Timothy Bottoms, or Jeff Bridges, or Don Johnson, or Gregory Harrison etc.
We could have as many men from Cybill's past that could fit in an elevator, and Cybill of course in the elevator with them. Now THAT would make an interesting episode.

Come to think of it, I think I should call Cybill about my elevator idea. It would make a great reality show.:D

Great thread! Can I only give one reason? Ugh, where to start?

How about that sickening tour David and A**** took around L.A.

(If we're allowed more than one, I'll be back to this thread for sure! I could write a book! :D )

Oh man...I could go on for pages.......

This is the episode where I really think the writers went crazy. It was as if David and Maddie became two different people. They had always bantered and argued, but there was no background for them turning as vicious as they were starting in this episode.

David says the meanest thing he has ever said to Maddie....."Get out of my bed."

It made no sense......and wounded me, as it did most of the loyal viewers of the time.

I have MUCH more, but I will give somebody else a chance.

Vent away. Don't limit yourselves to just one reason. There are dozens at least!

Betrayal by David - simply the worst!!!!!!!!

Betrayal by Annie......

Laughing with David about Maddie's habits.......Getting involved with David when she knew their history.

Grrrrrrrrr.....

God don't get me started on this episode either. UGH! It's like you try to avoid watching it like you avoid the plague. Diane you are so right about the scene in David's apt. when he says "Get Out OF My Bed to Maddie". God i hate it so much. Yes David betrayed her and Annie betrayed her. She was so childish when she was making fun of Maddie's house and the order in which she had a her magazines layed out. I wanted to kick her and then David thinks it is funny. I want to scream LOL Ok need to calm down LOL :)

Now you`ve started something !! Where do i begin, how long have you got!.For starters the reasons i really dislike(note i can`t say `hate`about any Moonlighting episode)When Girls...Now to quote David Addison-"don`t take this the wrong way but" i didn`t like the fact also that Demi was allowed a walk on part (however brief) what if Cybill had ask to do something like that ,would the powers that be have been so eager to please? in fact they would probably have said she was trying to take control!!!
Right now on to the actual plot line , in my mind the way the whole episode starts gets me puzzled , what happened to all that attraction and caring for each other that up to then had been there ( even though they had probably not slept together since she had went off and come back from Chicago)but at least they were still flirting and sorta dating.
But here it all went icy cold , there was no passion at all , no emotion what so ever. I`d rather have had them screaming at one another than this ,at least there was passion. About that scene at the end when Maddie lying on Davids bed , i too think that line is really spiteful . I mean there`s Maddie for once trying to be open and honest and explain to David what she is thinking and feeling but he is just so detached and uncaring to Maddie about how her in all of this. ( It couldn`t have been that long ago since she had lost the baby ` their baby`as well ) Fair enough if it was truly over between them we wouldn`t expect either of them to stay celibate but it shouldn`t have been with another member of her family!.
Now maybe -just maybe! i could have tolerated Annie as a brief fling if only David hadn`t been so cold towards Maddie at the same time.- What were the writers thinking?-To me it felt as though all hope had been lost in restoring David and Maddies relationship, and i thought that the show was supposed to be based around that very same relationship. So to me -no relationship meant -no show
Another scene that really infuriates me is the scene between David and A***e in the BMW up on the hill, i think iv`e said this before but i`ll say it again - HOW COULD THEY! Bad David how could he use the beemer , the car that belongs to Maddie. The car that he and Maddie had made out in not so long ago, the place where they had all their arguements , the place where they made up afterwards. and to top it all David was hitting on Maddies cousin while she was at home asleep in bed unaware of it all!
I think i`d better finish for now , my bloods starting to boil!:) Yeah i know it`s only a television show but...)
Wow i`ve wrote quite alot , didn`t mean to go on like i have .
Over to someone else now:wave:

"David says the meanest thing he has ever said to Maddie....."Get out of my bed.""

That particular scene is still so painful to me that I have not watched it since 1989.

Maddie with Sam - she was torn and we all knew it.
David with Annie - we did not see anything in David that would make us feel that he was torn about his feelings - it seemed that he did not care at all - why was he so callous? Why would the writers think that we would want to see David behaving like that?

In Eine Kleine, fans did get to see some feelings for Maddie, but not enough of course (scene in her house as it is being destroyed).

WGC is one of the most hated things I can think of in my life. I would never put that episode on - NEVER.
I do watch In 'n Outlaws -- one particular section of course :D .
I can watch a few scenes in Eine Kleine.

Most of Lunar Eclipse is just farcical crap - I have watched the final montage on a couple of occasions.

The only scene in WGC that I can tolerate is the dance scene between David and Maddie because she uses some great hip action in that one.

Ok, I'm back. Here goes! I agree with everything everyone has said. A few things REALLY bugged me. I agree with Kismet about Demi. It just shattered what was left of David and Maddie to me. Bruce and Demi literally "collided" with David and Maddie. The opening scene (I think, it's been a looong time) with Maddie and her psychiatrist was silly. It could have been a good scene with Maddie finally coming to terms with David but the writers blew it. Next, Maddie having liquid lunch? I don't think so. Also, in this episode Maddie starts calling David names like "lethal." This is the same guy she admitted she still loved towards the end of Season 4! What happened? Neither of them acted like themselves. I especially hated the way David treated Maddie though. She was finally trying to talk to him, and he just blew her off completely. Even knowing that Annie was married didn't phase him. Last thing - Does anyone know what Maddie and David are yelling at each other at Hot Tub Heaven? This is probably the only overlapping dialogue in the whole series that I can't understand each of them. (It was hard, but I watched that part many times trying to get it. Even the editing of this episode is bad! :()

Do you mean the scene when Maddie and Agnes bring Chinese food to the stakeout? If you are referring to the part of the scene when they are fighting like mad, that overlapping dialogue has always bothered me. It seems that there are some juicy things said but I could never make it out.
P.S. That scene when David shakes his body when Maddie is on top of him makes me feel good.
I hope I have the correct scene in my head.

CyBr
04-26-2006, 12:18 PM
That's the scene! When Maddie walks out Agnes and the chinese food and David chases her and they're yelling, it does sound juicy!! I think David says something like, "but I guess that was different!" Was he referring to when Maddie was with Sam? Or Walter? I'd LOVE to know!!

kismet
04-26-2006, 12:24 PM
Ooooh CyBr - I agree that the psychiatrist scene is really a bit strange.
What Maddie says about David (sexually) sounds like something Cybill would actually say.

The fact that Maddie is seeing a psychiatrist to sort through her feelings for David is OK - it's what she says that is not like Maddie at all.

Oh ML writers - did you notice that Maddie had feelings for David at the beginning of the episode?!

kismet
04-26-2006, 12:42 PM
You know what else I didn't like? The way David dressed when he was with A***e. Maddie still looked the same but David was dressed cool and casual. I resented it! :D

Me too! (Although I think Bruce looked Very Nice!) But that brings up another thing I hated! I know David came in to work late and hungover before, but it was just too obnoxious for him to swagger in the next morning in the same clothes, flaunting that he'd been out all night.

I agree - he looked really great, too great.
The wearing of the same clothes reminds me of BW on Jon Stewart last year, telling the world he was wearing the same clothing from the premiere party the night before (the one with Ms. Lohan:eek: ). Oh no, I am getting the YUCK vibes again.

Getting back to WGC - think back to Maddie and Agnes in Maddie's office talking about the conflict between Sam & Dave - think of how torn Maddie was about what she was doing -- she had tears in her eyes.

The two relationship trilogies were so different. It was a true shame what they did at the end of Moonlighting. I think that is why so many fans wanted something done, i.e. a reunion movie -- the fans deserved something better. David and Maddie deserved something better.

laura a
04-26-2006, 03:06 PM
Just thought that i would join in too.
The only reason that i can think of for David coming in to work the next day dressed in the same clothes would`ve be to rub Maddies nose in it.( By the way i think Bruce looked very sexy in those clothes too , that look really suits him :D )Not once did we see David torn or feeling guilty about what he was doing to Maddie, it wasn`t until A***es husband showed up that David finally decided to put a stop to the affair( as if Maddies feelings weren`t enough to make him see sense).
Kismet`s right about the: Maddie-Sam -David: thing being very different to the: David-A***e-Maddie: thing , we could sorta forgive Maddie for sleeping with Sam because she still loved David through the whole sarga and she also ended up coming back to David.Even though Maddie had said to A***e that she was OK about her seeing David ,A***e must have known deep down that it was just a front , that it was Maddies way of dealing with `things`by in a way not dealing with it at all and pretending everything was fine.
And another thing why did David have to keep making snide judgmental remarks to A***e about Maddies lifestyle and personality ,for example the scene when David and A***e were in the car and she said "Oh i love this song ,turn it up" to David and then he says something like " its been a long time since those words have been said in this car" ouch ! now if that wasn`t a dig at Maddie then i dont know what is. There must have been something about Maddie that David found attractive and appealing because he wouldn`t have spent the previous 2/3 years chasing after her. This was the man that once said that he would give up his life for her!
It just feels to me as if they both were given personality transplants by the writers in this episode.

Absolutely! Here's some more gripes I have. The conversation in David's office after he swaggers in. He says that intellectually Maddie knows it's over between them, but it must be hard for her to see him in the arms of another woman! How arrogant is that! Maddie must have wondered what she ever saw in him. (Ok, he was gorgeous! ) Another nit picky thing is in the scene at the end, Maddie says she was rehearsing what she wanted to say in the car on the way over. But he had her car! I guess she took a cab. Then A**** just walks right in. Does she have a key already? And how did she even know where he lives anyway? The night before in Maddie's car while they're looking out at L.A., she asks him to point out where he lives. To me that's just sloppy writing, which is not like the early seasons of ML at all. Arggghhh!

Thats right , how dare she just waltz in to his home and bedroom after 1 maybe 2 nights as though she was his girlfriend or something!. The more we discuss this episode the more i loathe this episode ( apart from the dance scene between David and Maddie of course!) and i especailly loathe A***e. But like CyBr said it wasn`t just the story line that we hate it`s also the attention to detail or lack of from the writers that gets my goat, didn`t they care enough to get it right!

That line about Maddie finding it hard seeing David in the arms of another woman bugs me too. (Dont get me wrong i still love him to bits) but was David so egotistical to imply to Maddie that even though she is no longer the woman in his life anymore and he has moved on , that Maddie can`t get over him and is still carrying a torch for him!Talk about ripping out her heart and stamping on it.

OMG, this discussion is depressing me. I'll say it too, Kismet... I HATE this episode!!!!! I don't think I've watched it since its original run. I didn't even tape it from Lifetime, but I did keep the ABC version. Why? I guess for days I feel like torturing myself. That day hasn't come yet. I agree with all that's been said about their characters changing. Also, to bring up Eine, David still cared when he showed up at Maddie's house. David looked really shocked that Maddie didn't seem to care. Do you know the scene I'm talking about? UGH, everytime I hear Just My Imagination, I think of this ep. Yuck! It should be about Maddie and David, not David and #@%$*! I hate the way he dresses too. wow, he's so cool, by being nasty to the woman he "lives" for. UGH, this episode is awful. :(

I ´ve been trying to read everything you´ve written in this thread, and I have to say I agree with you. I´ve always thought that A´s participation was totally unneccessary but that I could just ignore the parts she´s in (especially WGC and the opening of Lunar). And since that´s what I´ve done, I never had to think about that David changed because of her! And that´s why the whole show ended the way it did.. OMG, I feel like a totally new person.

Another scene that really infuriates me is the scene between David and A***e in the BMW up on the hill, i think iv`e said this before but i`ll say it again - HOW COULD THEY!

When I first saw this scene, I sat there thinking that the scene should have been David and Maddie in the BMW on the hill listening to Just my imagination!! The writers really missed out on an opportunity here!!

I agree with everyone who said that this was when the writers lost it. The heart had been ripped out of the show at this point. The whole point of the show was Maddie and David - as Laura said, you can almost accept David flirting with Annie to make Maddie jealous, but the whole 'lurve' and being nasty to Maddie for no reason just takes the biscuit for me..

Rant rant rant...

i really cannot imagine Any woman being in love with the david character at this point in the show.

he's just plain creepy. i mean, fooling around with maddie's cousin. yuk.

maddie's character is a lady...that's why she and david are so funny together. it's really 'lady and the tramp'
but i cannot imagine the maddie character being attracted At All to the david character after this.
i can see her being passionately indifferent to him, to the point of boredom and really viewing him as a one night stand.

but the thing is, the david character is really a class act threw the 1st three seasons, he wasn't a creepy guy, so i really this part of the series as something that i wish would just dissapear, never to be seen again.

So true! I think that's part of what makes WGC SOOOO disappointing. David was nothing short of a prince in the first four seasons, and, really, most of the 5th. But this jerk! Why would Maddie, why would any of us, be interested in this a**?

There are plenty of jerks, in life and on TV. David's inherent goodness, and his complexity are what makes him worth watching. The "David" in WGC isn't complex at all. He's your run-of-the-mill creep.

oooooo A hatefest! Love it! Couldn't have happened to a more DESERVING episode (except maybe LUNAR ECLIPSE--I hate it too with the fury of ten exploding suns!)

I totally object to David's non-chalence about sleeping around with a married woman. Could this be the same character who chastised clients earlier about such behavior....he has always preached that he has strong moral, religious convictions. Talked about the sanctity of marriage and so on. And to make it WORST a married woman who is related to Maddie. This totally destroys one of his most admirable charteristics....his chivalry, his nobility about faithfulness in marriage and relationships. BLECH! This is alien David and not the character we bought into years ago!

don't even begin to think of getting me started on 'lunar eclipse'--or should i write 'looney eclipse'

i'm still on the dreadful wgc.

how about maddie Going To David's Place and Waiting for him On His Bed.
are the writers kidding me?
Maddie?
shy, reserved, Maddie?
the one who holds back?
the one who only loses control, because david drives her crazy in a sexy, sexy way?
this is not the type of woman who would lose control because some loser is making passes at her loser cousin.
this is so very creepy.

and david?
where did david go?
he's not in this episode.
i don't know the guy in this episode.

if maddie had left for chicago After this episode and layed in bed for 4 months, depressed, i would totally get it.
that would have been my first order of business if i had found out a guy i had loved and slept with for years had turned out to be such pond scum.
Yuk, Yuk, Yuk.
