View Full Version : The Uncreativity of TV Land is proven once again this weekend
TVFactFan 04-22-2006, 06:26 PM First of all, Bonanza and Gunsmoke is shown for 8 hours every weekend and now they make it a Weekendthon? Bonanza today and Gunsmoke all today tomorrow? Whoever is in charge of TV LAND programming is on Cocaine, Acid, Herion, and Pot-LOL
Unbelieavble

Well, I know I will not be watching TVLand this weekend. Why the HELL can't they put on some RARE shows every now and then for a marathon? Oh, well . . .
spunkygirl 04-22-2006, 06:36 PM They do great ratings, so they're going to milk it.
My uncle loves watching these shows, can't get enough of them

A marathon of Westerns all weekend? What is this April 22, 1956?-lol

 you are cracking me up Solomon! :brent:

This is truly a TURN BACK THE CLOCK Marathon Weekend-lol I should pull the old FLOOR MODEL TV out the Basement to celebrate the Historic Marathon Airings of Both Gunsmoke and Bonanza
gilligan fanatic 04-22-2006, 06:58 PM Bonanza is alright, but Gunsmoke is great. With over 600 episodes I wish they would air the first 12 seasons and not just the last 8.
JeffRuss1972 04-22-2006, 07:07 PM A marathon of Westerns all weekend? What is this April 22, 1956?-lol
 True
spunkygirl 04-22-2006, 07:55 PM A marathon of Westerns all weekend? What is this April 22, 1956?-lol
I'd take a westerns marathon over a constant Full House, or Roseanne or Cosby show marathon ;)
TVFactFan 04-22-2006, 07:59 PM

As much as I hate Full House, I think I could watch that before Gunsmoke or Bonanza
sbeamish 04-22-2006, 08:36 PM Sorry. I love Bonanza and Gunsmoke.
I must, however, agree with JeffRuss1972. When are they going to run marathons of some RARE shows?
Mr. Television 04-22-2006, 08:55 PM As much as I hate Full House, I think I could watch that before Gunsmoke or Bonanza
Wow Solomon...You must really hate westerns.
TVFactFan 04-22-2006, 09:09 PM Wow Solomon...You must really hate westerns.
With a Passion-lol
treky 04-22-2006, 10:42 PM well, I happen to LOVE westerns. I agree, though, a weekend marathon of "Bonanza" & "Gunsmoke" IS a little too much of them.
treky 04-22-2006, 10:46 PM Bonanza is alright, but Gunsmoke is great. With over 600 episodes I wish they would air the first 12 seasons and not just the last 8.
TV LAND just has the rights to the color seasons. I agree, though, I wish they'd show the black-and-white episodes, eccspecially the half-hour ones. And the ones with Dennis Weaver & Burt Reynolds.
Brian Damage 04-22-2006, 10:50 PM What's next week's marathon?
Mr. Television 04-22-2006, 10:54 PM TV LAND just has the rights to the color seasons. I agree, though, I wish they'd show the black-and-white episodes, eccspecially the half-hour ones. And the ones with Dennis Weaver & Burt Reynolds.
The hour Black and White shows are on the Western Channel.
The two shows do great in the ratings. That's why Gunsmoke's been a TVLand mainstay for 10 years and why they picked up Bonanza while it was still running on both Hallmark and Pax.
I think it's nice to have these shows on all weekend, but it's nothing new, considering their current mini-marathons anyway. I never really watch either but I have made an effort on several occasions and enjoyed them.
Now, surprise surprise, I would enjoy it if they got some rights to some soaps and aired them all weekend long! Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless both have ALL of their episodes saved from the beginning, and that's 40.5 years and 33 years, respectively, of material! Hell I know they're both on SOAPnet, but I can dream. The idea of 70s Y&R on a rainy Saturday afternoon just gets my juicies flowing.
sbeamish 04-23-2006, 07:15 AM The hour Black and White shows are on the Western Channel.
Not any more. I stopped seeing Gunsmoke on the Western Channel months ago.
TVFactFan 04-23-2006, 09:26 AM What's next week's marathon?
Sanford and Son or Good Times-lol And the Week after that it will be What's Happening or Gunsmoke
Mr. Television 04-23-2006, 10:16 AM Not any more. I stopped seeing Gunsmoke on the Western Channel months ago.
Yea that might be true. I know they put The Big Valley on in January.
gilligan fanatic 04-23-2006, 01:48 PM Come on Solomon, you were saying something about how cartoons are for kids a few months ago and now look at you-lol. Give Gunsmoke a chance you might end up liking it.
TVFactFan 04-23-2006, 03:03 PM Come on Solomon, you were saying something about how cartoons are for kids a few months ago and now look at you-lol. Give Gunsmoke a chance you might end up liking it.
I would give Gunsmoke a chance only if they allowed me to watch TV at my desk at Work-lol
Ireneparalegal 04-23-2006, 03:07 PM Well, I know I will not be watching TVLand this weekend. Why the HELL can't they put on some RARE shows every now and then for a marathon? Oh, well . . .
I agree. maybe if they did that they could see which shows got good ratings and that can help them decide what to show in the future.
TVFactFan 04-23-2006, 03:09 PM A one year wonder Marathon on TV LAND would make me cut off communication with all females except IRENE!!!-lol
gilligan fanatic 04-23-2006, 04:54 PM Gunsmoke had a short lived spin off Dirty Sally in 74 it would be nice to see that.
A lot of people guest stared on Gunsmoke. Here are some I captured from the best of DVD's. Here I have Angie Dickinson, Cloris Leachman, Aaron Spelling, George Kennedy, Barbara Eden, Adam West, William Shatner, Carrol O'Connor, Bette Davis, Ed Asner, and Lenord Nimoy.

I would be great if they would release the whole series on DVD. I do got the premiere episode with John Wayne's introduction that I picked up on VHS a few years ago.

I like the best of's because usually a season of a shows list price is $40.00 and with 20 seasons that would be a lot by the time its all said and done. Hour long shows usually cost more than $40.00 too. I have never bought a show for the list price, I usually get it for $25.00 or something near that but still, it would add up fast-lol. That is why I gave up on M*A*S*H. I like the show but it ends up costing way to much.
TVFactFan 04-23-2006, 05:04 PM I expect another Gunsmoke/Bonanza Marathon next weekend-lol
gilligan fanatic 04-23-2006, 05:08 PM the episode I posted with Carrol O'Connor is from 1967, I can't believe how much older he looks by 1971. I wonder if his hair is dyed on one of the shows.

Yea I'm pretty slow when it comes to picking up DVDS. I have mostly dramas in my collection but I know some of them especially in the malls are over $40 sometimes. I think Lost In Space split their season 1 up in two parts so maybe Gunsmoke could do that. I know in the 50's and early 60's shows sometimes had 39 episodes a season.
Janice 04-23-2006, 05:13 PM I expect another Gunsmoke/Bonanza Marathon next weekend-lol
Word is, it's a Big Valley/Rifleman marathon.
Saddle up Solomon. :D
TVFactFan 04-23-2006, 05:15 PM Sonny and Matt, yall are both my buddies and I see that you bothl like Westerns but I don't want this thread to turn into a gunsmoke/bonanza discussion-lol I really only want members to reply to this thread who dislike the fact that it's a marathon of westerns all weekend. Yall are hijacking my thread-lol

Remind me to get my POPCORN ready-lol
Janice 04-23-2006, 05:39 PM I'm with you Solomon. I hate this weekend's marathon. I know it brings in ratings, but it doesn't make me like westerns any more. I've been forced to watch Roseanne when I go to bed.
TVFactFan 04-23-2006, 05:41 PM I'm with you Solomon. I hate this weekend's marathon. I know it brings in ratings, but it doesn't make me like westerns any more. I've been forced to watch Roseanne when I go to bed.
Me too-lol And you know we both have to admit that Roseanne is much more watchable than Gunsmoke-lol
gilligan fanatic 04-23-2006, 08:11 PM like I said before give it some time. Try to watch one with a star you like. I think its neat watching some Sitcom stars doing Drama.
I can't watch Roseanne. The one and only episode I have seen is the Gilligan spoof. It ruined it for me. Its nice seeing Bob Denver and the rest at the end, but the whole dream sequence is awful. Now the ALF Gilligan spoof is great.
Roseanne as Ginger is not funny at all, its scary
Penny Lane 04-24-2006, 11:18 AM I never watch TV Land on weekends. It is very boring unless one is into old westerns. :p
Brian Damage 04-24-2006, 11:32 AM I'm with you Solomon. I hate this weekend's marathon. I know it brings in ratings, but it doesn't make me like westerns any more. I've been forced to watch Roseanne when I go to bed.
That's what I had to do last night.

N@N is the Ideal Choice for the Weekends, Defintely not TV LAND

Again, I love Bonanza and Gunsmoke, but a one year wonder marathon. Yeah! That's what I want.
Give us a full month for that.
TVFactFan 04-25-2006, 08:52 PM Again, I love Bonanza and Gunsmoke, but a one year wonder marathon. Yeah! That's what I want.

Just no one year wonders from the 60's-lol

i just barely seen this post!!!!! LOL

TVFactFan 04-25-2006, 09:15 PM I haven't watched TVLand in ages. I like a lot of the shows on TVLand, but I don't have cable in my room anymore so it makes it difficult to watch it at night. I catch all of TVLand's shows that I like through DVD.
You are not missing much
TVFactFan 04-25-2006, 09:25 PM If I could I would watch Night Court everynight. When Benson, 227, and The Jeffersons come I'll want to watch those too.... but come college I probably wont have time.
Yeah that's right, there is no such thing as watching TV in college, I know that better than anyone-lol
sbeamish 04-26-2006, 05:50 PM Just no one year wonders from the 60's-lol
Forget it. If it doesn't include 1967, you lose my vote.

The 60's was a bad decade period for Tv comedies
gilligan fanatic 04-26-2006, 06:29 PM The 60's was a bad decade period for Tv comedies
Why do you say that, The 60's had Gilligan's Island, Green Acres, Andy Girffith, The Lucy Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Gomer Pyle, Beverly Hillbillies, Donna Reed, My Three Sons, Ozzie and Harriet, Flinstones, Jeannie, Family Affair, Hogan's Heroes and a whole lot more. I usually agree with you about a lot of stuff, but not this. The 60's were great for Sitcoms. Don't forget about all the variety shows to like Red Skelton and Laugh In and Dean Martin.

The only watchable 60's show was That Girl and I would say the Flinstones but that's pretty much it IMO

I think you may be alone on that-lol 60's shows do great in reruns.
sbeamish 04-26-2006, 08:36 PM IMO if the 1960s had produced no sitcoms other than The Dick Van Dyke Show, it would still be the greatest sitcom decade.
TVFactFan 04-26-2006, 08:41 PM IMO if the 1960s had produced no sitcoms other than The Dick Van Dyke Show, it would still be the greatest sitcom decade.
The 1960's-"greatest Sitcom Decade"? WOW!-lol
Mr. Television 04-26-2006, 08:48 PM The 60's were my 3rd favorite decade for sitcoms after the 70's and the 80's. They are way better than the sitcoms of the 90's and 2000's. TDVDS wasn't one of my favorites from that decade however.
sbeamish 04-26-2006, 09:10 PM IMO if the 1960s had produced no sitcoms other than The Dick Van Dyke Show, it would still be the greatest sitcom decade.
Okay, maybe I should rephrase that.
If the 1960s had produced no sitcoms other than The Dick Van Dyke Show, THEN it would be the greatest sitcom decade. -LOL.
