View Full Version : Should Credit Card Company Tell you why they.......
TVFactFan 03-31-2006, 07:31 PM Approved you for a Card like they tell you why they rejected you? I was recently approved for an American Express Card and was very surprised because my credit was bad for 7 years. So I guess bad credit does Clear after 7 years-lol But I would just really like to know why I was approved. Is it easy to get an American Express Card which by the way has no Credit Limit?-lol

Usually you get a credit card when you have made a major purchase like a car, home, etc. or you get a school loan, or some other kind of loan. I have received cards like that ONLY AFTER having done the above referenced things.
Is it true abt credit being clear? I mean, I keep hearing that, but I don't know that it's true. I had bad credit, but the credit card company assumes if you can purchase a car and have a loan on that, or a school loan, then you are good for the $$$ or they assume (dumbasses) that you will not faulter on loans.
Brieannas21 03-31-2006, 08:23 PM Yep after 7 years your credit is cleared. Also when you have bad credit you can still get a credit card the only thing is you have to make a deposit.
But yeah I think that they should send you a letter telling you why you were approved lol.

I didn't have to make a deposit. I wonder does it have something to do with me being employed full tim for the past 7 years and at the same APT paying rent on time for the past 6 years.

No I'm saying, Even a person with bad credit can get a credit card and if they wanted a credit card they had to make a deposit. I wasn't saying you in particular

Solomon, words of advice. Don't mess with American Express. They are crooks. I dealt with them. When you make purchases, they don't charge a monthy fee, they want all of their money with the bill arrives. I was giving them a little each month, and the bill got even higher the next month. You can get the card, but I wouldn't make purchases on it. You will be sorry. I went credit card crazy, it was my fault, but to make a long story short, I filed for bankrupty last year.

I think American Express is mainly for responsible Working people who will only charge something they know they can pay back in full. America Express is defintely not for college kids. But I am responsible working man who has learned how to use a credit card and I know I won't ever charge anything that I know I can't pay back in full in the same month

Then why would you use a credit card if you'll pay for the item in full anyway lol.

Because if you are interested in buying a HOUSE or CAR in the future, you will have GOOD CREDIT

Yep, that's the whole reason I even have a credit card, so I will establish good credit. I don't use my credit card a whole lot but when I do it's on stuff I know I will be able to pay off in full when the bill comes.

Right, that' how a credit card should be used. Not to go on a shopping spree-lol If I was to ever get laid off I would put the credit card in a box and put a lock on it because I damm sure wouldn't use it-lol
Brieannas21 04-01-2006, 04:37 PM Yeah but when you have to pay your bill in one lump some, and if for some reason you miss a payment your interest goes up and you'll end up paying high ass late fees. It's easy to say that you'll pay it off in time, but hard to do always. Last year I paid off my AE card and then cut it up, I stick with Visa and Mastercard.
Ireneparalegal 04-01-2006, 04:38 PM i don't use credit cards anymore...what I do use is the card from Mastercard where you put your money in the acct and you only spend what you have on that card. I also enrolled so that I pay a one time fee and that same information will be seen as me having a credit card and having good credit. I put on the card $2000 abt two months ago and I use it for gas in the car, online purchases or ATM access. It's great because I don't have to worry abt charging stuff with money i may not have later.

Tower Records, and Taco Bell,
GARFIELDKOOL 04-01-2006, 05:50 PM Tower Records, and Taco Bell,
How about taking her to an opera and Old Country Buffet afterwards? LOL Anyway, before my bankruptcy, the best credit card I had was the Discover Card. Their rates were reasonable. I had a $4,000 credit line plus $1,000 cash on the card. So me like a fool, took advantage of that cash advance. I will never do that again.

I made my first American Express Purchase Tonight at Red Lobster, $19.86. Now I know I can pay that in full-lol
Janet Tripper 04-02-2006, 01:43 AM I used to be a banker and I think credit cards are great because like many have said they help you establish credit w/out having to think about a large amount like you would with a 30 year mortgage or an auto loan. But they are also very easy to get into trouble with. I would usually suggested students always get one to start building credit since it's easier to build it and get approved for credit cards when you are younger. If a person didn't have enough credit or had bad credit for whatever reason then a secure credit card was great to help them re-establish it. They would only be able to spend whatever they had deposit into their account. Which we opened as a savings and they earn a small about of interest. Althought these types of credit cards usually have an annual fee its worth it. Credit is everything. But its good to make small purchases such as for gas or when you go out to eat. Try to put like $50 a/month and then pay it off. That way when you are ready to purchase a home or a bigger assett you have a history. So I think its a great that you are using it!!! :D
