View Full Version : Songs you thought were sung by certain artists:
Pug Lover 03-28-2006, 11:13 PM How often have you heard a song and thought it was sung by a certain artist or group, and found out that it was really sung by a different artist?
To give you an example,I once thought that the song Fox On The Run was a Beatles song. Then I realised that it was really sung by The Sweet in 1975.
Here are some other songs that I've made the same mistakes about.
Sultans Of Swing/Dire Straits(thought it was Gordon Lightfoot)
Brand New Key/Melanie(TIW Joni Mitchell)
Somebody's Knockin'/Terri Gibbs(TIW Anne Murray)
Those Were The Days/Mary Hopkin(TIW Barbra Striesand)
A Whiter Shade Of Pale/Procol Harum(TIW Joe Cocker)
Oh Pretty Lady/Trooper(TIW Rod Stewart)
It's Over/Prism(TIW Trooper)
You And Me/Alice Cooper(TIW The Eagles)
I'm Not In Love/10cc(TIW Paul McCartney & Wings)
Livin'On A Prayer/Bon Jovi(TIW Rush)
Count On Me/Starship(TIW Supertramp)
Third Time Lucky(First Time I Was A Fool)/Foghat(TIW Foriegner)
Ride Like The Wind/Christopher Cross(TIW Kenny Loggins)
Listen To The Music/The Doobie Brothers(TIW Stevie Wonder)
Ant-Lox 04-09-2006, 01:04 PM I always thought Roger Waters or Dave Gilmour sung "Have a Cigar" but they were imitating another persons voice...but it wasn't them it was a tottaly other guy named Roy Parker......
Ireneparalegal 04-09-2006, 01:30 PM Serious, in high school when Diana Ross' song "I'm Coming Out" first started playing, alot of us thought is was Michael Jackson singing it!!!!!! Serious. Even now, if I listen to that first verse, the high pitch, it sounds just like Michael Jackson did. This was when Michael had just come out with Off The Wall.
LadyBee 04-09-2006, 01:34 PM "Rescue Me" Fontella Bass (originally thought it was Aretha Franklin)
"I Wanna Thank You" Alicia Meyers (thought Anita Baker sang it)
jpcanes 04-20-2006, 10:27 AM "Don't Do Me LIke That"-Tom Petty... sounded like J.Geils Band.
James 04-23-2006, 09:25 PM Here are two:
"Want Ads" by the Honey Cone (1971) - I thought the Jackson 5 sang it
"Third Rate Romance" by the Amazing Rhythm Aces (1975) - I thought the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band sang it

James 04-26-2006, 03:26 AM I used to think "Drinkin' and Dreamin'" by Waylon Jennings in 1985 was sung by the Bellamy Brothers.
Mikado 04-26-2006, 05:57 AM Girl Of My Best Friend by Ral Donner sounds SO much like Elvis, i thought it was when i was little

EmoJoe 04-26-2006, 05:48 PM i thought "drops of jupiter" was sung by bryan adams at first (it's not)
Steve M. 04-26-2006, 09:25 PM I always thought Roger Waters or Dave Gilmour sung "Have a Cigar" but they were imitating another persons voice...but it wasn't them it was a tottaly other guy named Roy Parker......
Roy Harper. He's an English folk-rocker. Led Zeppelin paid tribute to him in the 1970 song "Hats Off to (Roy) Harper" off Led Zeppelin III.
Steve M. 04-26-2006, 09:26 PM I thought the Beatles sang "Lies," but it ws the Knickerbockers, a group from Bergen County, NJ that took their name from Knickerbocker Avenue in New Milford, NJ.

Plastic Vicar 04-27-2006, 06:29 AM a lot of People think that "Mr Roboto' is sung by queen. but its by a band called Styx. it does sound like something Queen would sing tho and the guy really sounds like Freddie mercury.
Brad Russ 04-27-2006, 12:33 PM When I first heard the song "Special" by garbage, I thought it was The Pretenders. I always get Shirley Manson and Chrissie Hynde's voices mixed up. I also thought "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell, was sung by Michael Jackson. I didn't realize at the time that it was just Michael doing back up vocals. I also always thought "Horse With No Name" by America, was sung by Neil Young. To this day, I'm still shocked that the voice in that song isn't him.
Penny Lane 04-27-2006, 03:40 PM When The Hollies "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" first came out I thought it was Credence Clearwater Revival.
