View Full Version : THE HAPPY DAYS THEME SONG, who was the deep bass singer who is saying ooh happy day!
studd911 03-24-2006, 07:33 PM Hey HD fans i just have one question to asked you, i no that original recording of "Happy Days" was done by Pratt & McClain with Brother Love, in the openning credit, but does anybody no who is that doing the deep bass vocal of the theme song ooh happy days, it sound like boozer from the tv series sh na na or it could have been a member from one of those dooo woop band members
tv star collector 03-24-2006, 08:10 PM Truett Pratt and Jerry McClain were the artists who recorded it (it went to the
No. 5 position on the Billboard Top 40 chart in April 1976). But I don't know
which one was the bass singer.

dont know who sang the bass for Pratt & McClain, but it was Jon “Bowzer” Bauman that sang bass for Sha Na Na
wayne 05-11-2006, 09:07 PM I know Potsie is seen whenever the part "Goodbye gray skies hello blue" is on. But I wonder if Potsie actually sang that and if not who did?
anglemark10 05-12-2006, 12:32 AM It definitely wasn't Anson Williams. It was either Truett Pratt or Jerry McClain.
The Flying Dutchmans 06-24-2006, 10:14 PM I was told once that it was John bauman from sha na na (Bowzer)
swirlforu 03-01-2009, 04:06 AM That bass singer is my grandfather Gerald Garrett. He died several years ago. He actually sung with a group called The Platters. He sung with a variety of other singers.

skierman 12-28-2010, 05:49 AM Hi Gerald, tonight I entered a space of nostalgia. I am from Australia and met your grandfather in South Lake Tahoe. I have some great history of him and me and friends. I taught him to snow ski in Thredbo Australia in the seventies. We became the greatest of friends. He scared the **** out of me driving in his orange mustang in Los Angeles. I have some great history of a great mateship which I can relate about one of the greatest men I have met in my life, and I am anything but a recluse. gerald, his passing back in Wichita was a very sad day for me and one day I would love to visit the cemetery. Please reply and I can give you some wonderful history about a kind, gentle, talented and beautiful non racial man. I look forward to hearing from you

My dad was best friends with Frank Garrett in Kansas City, his younger brother Emerson the park in Wichita is named after him was best friends with Dear Dad. And, I went to Hi Sch in LA with Gerry Jr. That's 3 generations of your family and mine. We party in Perris, LA, San Diego & Salton Sea. Dear Dad was one of the best master craftmen I ever known. I'd like to get in touch with Gerry Jr.
WalrusIsPaul 02-20-2011, 12:36 AM I'm sure I'm the only who thought this. Guess be surprised if anyone else did...anyway
When they show the closing credits i always thought it was Fonzie singing the Happy Days theme during the closing credits. To me it sounded like Henry Winkler. I was only an innocent child during the early yrs of the run
Jessica 02-20-2011, 11:00 AM It sure is an awesome theme song. Thanks for the information about about the deep bass singer. The song would for sure not be the same without it.

I think Anson Williams (alias-Potsie) just lip-synched that line of the theme song for the opening credits.

We are related then. Gerald was my uncle. He was really cool and of course a great singer.

My Grandfather, Frank (Gerald's father) was amazing. He built a house in Wichita out of stone. He used to build wooden cars (with motors) for fun. Frank's youngest son (Frank III.) is one of the best bass guitarists you will ever hear. Uncle Gerald was such a cool character with a smile you'll never forget. How cool that you know all of my relatives!
