This morning I was watching it and Lamont said that he was 30 and Fred said that he was 31. That's why I thought he was 30 something.

Maybe they made Fred 65 to fit in with the premise of him being retired.

In the TB episode Lamont said that he was 29 then Fred said 31n then Lamont said 30 and that he was about to turn 31, He was trying to hit on the nurse.

Well his partners looked 7 years olders than him, Julio and Rollo. Rollo looked closer to 40 and Lamont looked closer to 30

If Fred was 50, the entire premise of the show would have had to be different. Fred was supposed to be a crabby semi-retired guy and Redd played the part well. If he was 50, he wouldn't have been home sitting around all day and there goes the main setting for the show.
