If you have ever seen "I Didn't Raise My Pig To Be A Soilder" (a.k.a "Arnold is Drafted") on TV LAND, you can see just how bad it is. Not in terms of storyline, but in terms of episode print quality. It is obviously a 16mm or 35mm back up print that they used. I thought the film was gonna break at any moment! It is good that the DVD versions of the first three Seasons of Green Acres have done a fairly good job of restoring the prints. I seem to recall at least one other episode that TV Land uses a back up print on for Green Acres. Does anyone know which one it is?

Does anyone know who the distributer is for Green Acres and if the syndicated prints/edits on them are the same as TV Land's versions? TV Land should REALLY try to get a better print of this episode! I recall my local syndicate affiliate showing Green Acres last year on a station that we have on digital cable, and all the episodes looked great. So, I would think that TV Land has different edits than local syndicated stations. Thank God for DVD and uncut, quality print episodes! (Considering the age of this series.)

yeah, I noticed that too. A few other ones aren't in the best shape either like A Star Named Arnold is Born. At least its not every episode though and like you said, thank god for the DVD sets.

Maybe the pig episodes were done differently.

...that some of the master negatives of certain episodes weren't available, and that, in the '80s, Orion Television had to use the best available 16mm film prints to compensate {i.e. "I Didn't Raise My Pig To Be a Soldier"}. Perhaps the ones released on DVD [by MGM/UA/SONY] were struck from better ones
(hopefully).

I thought that PARAMOUNT owned seasons 3 to 9 of "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES"?:confused:

The deal Jay Sommers made with CBS and Filmways on "GREEN ACRES" was separate from Henning's on "HILLBILLIES" and "PETTICOAT JUNCTION". That's why Filmways got the rights to syndicate it, and the rights to the others went to CBS/VIACOM.

So is it assumed that Lisa's closing, "This has been a Filmways presentation darling." was NOT a part of the original airing and was added when Filmways got the syndicated rights?

no, that closing was there when the show originnally aired. I remember my brother and me used to make fun of it, and also the one on "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" when Donna Douglas would say over the Filmways logo "THIS HAS BEEN A FILMWAYS PREESANTATION"* in her Elly May voice. (it's not on the MPI DVDs because she just said it on the color episodes)

*no, that's not a typo. She'd pronounce "prEsentation" as "prEEsentation"

Bill Baldwin, the show's announcer {"'THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES'!!!"}, was also the one who announced, "THIS has been a FILMWAYS presentation..." during the first three seasons [with an additional credit immediately after that which read, "in association with THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK"]. That credit is usually deleted on home video (especially the public domain editions).
