He says they've crossed the line on religious satire, but read what Matt Stone had to say:

That's just the way Scientologists are. The second you even attempt to poke fun at their "religion," they get all bent out of shape and almost always sue.

I think this quote says everything -

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins."

How hypocritical of him to say those exact words but never complain when other religions are made fun of. His point of view loses all credibility now.

So, do they get someone else to do Chef's voice next season? If so, who? Barry White was the first choice befure Hayes, but he turned it down. Secondly, Barry is deceased.

Isaac Hayes should go back into the closet with his fellow spacemen Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

I don't think they need to. Have you watched South Park? Chef has appeared in very few episodes the few seasons. They were fazing him out to begin with. So the show will not be hurt.

Since when is making fun of Scientology "religious satire"?

Wouldn't it have to be an actual religion to qualify for that?

I guess Isaac has made enough money off a show that brutally humorizes all ethnicities, religions, handicapped people and people of various sexual orientations, so now he can take a stand based on his cult's beliefs.

I'm not criticizing South Park, because that's what they do. I'm not a fan of the show, but I've watched on a few occasions and gotten an illicit chuckle from their over-the-top politically incorrect humor here and there.

He probably was made to quit;either way, this move probably was for the best, as Isaac can go on with his career since they didn't have him on as much, and South Park can gently fade into the sunset since the show has gone down some.

Is that why they had Chef die and become "Chef Vader:lol: "?

I should take back what I said earlier about Hayes being a hypocrite. I just saw an old clip of him doing a radio interview right after the "Trapped in the closet" episode aired. He wasn't really offended at all and when he was asked about the episode targeting scientology, he said that basically it was no big deal because Matt and Trey make fun of everything on the show. That's a far cry from his alleged "I can't tolerate religious bigotry" quote that was made last week.

The whole thing is pretty suspicious anyway if you think about it. "Trapped in the closet" aired back in November. So why would it take Hayes 3 1/2 months for him to speak out about his displeasure over an "attack" on his "religion?" It seems fairly obvious that his fellow scientology cult members forced him to quit the show. I think Matt and Trey used that to focus on the season premiere. Just like with Chef, don't hate on Hayes. Instead hate the "fruity" club that filled his head with all of this crap.

I think you're right. I'll bet Tom Cruise and others had a talk with him about it. I'm sure Cruise was personally offended by the closet episode too. Those gay rumors have been circulating for years. Maybe Big Gay Al should have a partner named Big Gay Tom!

The main rumor right now is that Hayes is very sick and all his responses since have been written by his "handler" Who happens to be a Scientologist as well.

He was recently in the hospital for what was reported as a stroke, but his new handler says it was just high blood preasure. Then the press release came out slamming South Park. Sort of fishy if you ask me.

It's sad that the whole situation ended up like this, but it's better in the long run.

It sucks that two of the best characters are no longer on the show

If you dare parody the scientologists, it's not right. After all, they're a "religion" and they'll get the lawyers on your ass or Tom Cruise will threaten not to promote his movie if you exercise your right to free speech.

Granted, it's not as bad as having someone inflict a jihad on you, but those wacky scientologists are just as scary in their own way.

Too bad "Chef" had to leave.

I still haven't seen the scientology episode. One of these days, I have to see that one!

South Park is still watched by over 8 million people weekly, after 20 years and over 250 episodes, including last night’s 20th season premiere. For the 20th anniversary, Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/south-park-20-years-history-trey-parker-matt-stone-928212) compiled a long, fascinating oral history with Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and several other people related to the show, including Isaac Hayes III, the son of the late Isaac Hayes, aka Chef.

The whole article is worth checking out, but the part with Hayes particularly surprised us. His father shouted a jovial “Hello there, children!” and dispensed questionable advice to kids as Chef for the first nine seasons of South Park. He quit the show via a statement after the Scientology episode, “Trapped In The Closet”, aired in 2005. Afterward, Jerome “Chef” McElroy fell in with the wrong crowd (the “Super Adventure Club”) and things didn’t go so well for him (http://southpark.cc.com/clips/104280/death-of-chef).

But now Hayes’ son is telling a new and depressing side of the story:

“Isaac Hayes did not quit South Park; someone quit South Park for him. What happened was that in January 2006 my dad had a stroke and lost the ability to speak. He really didn’t have that much comprehension, and he had to relearn to play the piano and a lot of different things. He was in no position to resign under his own knowledge. At the time, everybody around my father was involved in Scientology — his assistants, the core group people. So someone quit South Park on Isaac Hayes’s behalf. We don’t know who.”
Matt Stone told THR that Hayes asked them to pull the episode but it had already aired, and that, “It was pretty obvious from the conversation that somebody had sent him to ask us to pull the episode.”

Hayes’ son went on to reiterate that he didn’t think his father wanted to quit the show, saying “My father was not that big of a hypocrite to be part of a show that would constantly poke fun at African-American people, Jewish people, gay people — and only quit when it comes to Scientology. He wouldn’t be that hypocritical.”
