View Full Version : Ok in the episode when Rudy gets hurt by Theo being rough with her, WHY ON EARTH...
Ireneparalegal 03-09-2006, 02:01 PM Didn't Claire go to the emergency room with Cliff since SHE WAS THE ONE WHO WAS SO ADAMANT ABT RUDY NEEDING TO SEE A DOCTOR??????? She was so damn worried and upset, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO GO WITH CLIFF AND RUDY TO THE DOCTOR????? She stayed home and read a magazine!!::rolleyes:
Ireneparalegal 03-09-2006, 07:30 PM HA! I just saw that too, and I was wondering the same thing. I couldnt beleive she told Cliff to go. But I guess disciplining Theo was higher on her list.
I like how you posted "she TOLD Cliff to go"
Claire: "Ok now Cliff, you go be a good husband and daddy and take Rudy to the emergency room, because I am soooo worried and upset that there may be something wrong. Her face doesn't look right. I know you are a doctor, but I don't trust your judgment. You see, I am a lawyer and I know it all. I know there is something wrong with Rudy and you just don't see it. While I sit here and read a book, YOU take our daughter to the hospital because I am so worried, she is my baby."
BTW I also hated how Claire talked to Theo like a lawyer when she was INTERROGATING how Rudy got hurt. Being a paralegal, there is a way to talk AT WORK, but you don't use that legal talk at home. What kind of crap was that???? Talk to your son like a mother. don't talk to Theo like he was a criminal on trial. Pleeeeeeeeeze.

 Claire being herself as usual.

As usual...why am I surprised????
Ireneparalegal 03-10-2006, 12:12 AM I hate that too! And that's not the only episode she does it in. The one where Theo is late from track b/c of the incident at Circus Burger... like half of that episode was her putting the whole family on trial. I think its funny in that one when Clair asks Vanessa and Rudy the lesson in all of it and it turns out that the whole time they werent listening. Im like THANK YOU!
I know, so glad those damn perfect kids weren't listening. She deserved that. My God, this was her family, not defendants.
TVFactFan 03-10-2006, 10:34 PM First of all why would Theo be playing with his 7 year old sister and he was 16-lol
friendsfan77 03-10-2006, 10:53 PM As usual...why am I surprised????
lol you hate Clair
Ireneparalegal 03-11-2006, 12:05 AM lol you hate Clair
You barely figured that out!!! LOL:lol:
gidgetgrape 03-11-2006, 12:25 AM Wasn't Phylicia Rashad pregnant during that season? Maybe they thought she would show more standing.
Ireneparalegal 03-11-2006, 12:48 AM Wasn't Phylicia Rashad pregnant during that season? Maybe they thought she would show more standing.
She was shown standing, sitting, etc. Even the episodes where she was obviously pregnant, they had her behind the counter, wearing long, flowing outfits, holding things, etc. Still doesn't account for the fact she was whining, complaining and so worried abt her daughter, and she didn't go to take her daughter to the E.R.
Ireneparalegal 03-11-2006, 05:59 PM Im not sure how that ties in w/the way Clair delt w/Rudy.
They tried to hide Phylicia's pregnancy, although it's very visible in several episodes. Especially the snake one when she's in her pjs.
I thought some of the "long, flowing outfits" were quite hideous, but most of the time werent too bad. But like in the golden anniversary episode, Clair had some big thing on, and I was never quite sure what the pattern on it was supposed to be... dolphins? birds?
were they animals??? man, you have better eyes than I do...LOL
but back to Claire, she was totally wrong for making Cliff take her and she not go along. I would have told her:
"Look Claire, I am a doctor, I have 500 patients under my wing who trust me. If they trust me, why don't you? You are my wife! Now get your ass in the kitchen and make me tea dammit!!!"

LOL that wouldn't fly in my house.
But when Phylicia was pregnant there weren't many scenes with her standing up. She would either stand for a few seconds and then sit down. And they had the one episode where she was in bed the whole episode.
And maybe Claire felt that since Cliff worked at the hospital and was obviously well known that Rudy would get medical attention faster if he went instead of her. You know when you go to the ER it takes yrs to see a damn doctor. And plus someone had to be home to watch Theo clean the house.

Watch Theo clean the house????? Oh come now Brie, what a cop out. You are the second poster to say that. He was old enough, he didn't need no one watching him.
Claire should have gone, plain and simple. Whether she went with Cliff would have no bearing on the situation at the E.R. They are not going to treat Dr. Huxtable any different if she had been there. Regardless if pregnancy was the reason, she could have sat at the E.R. Cliff was sitting there, why not her????
as for the psychologist on the set it was Dr. Alvin Poussant. Notice his name is Alvin and Sondra's husband's name was Elvin. I wonder what the correlation is there.
Brieannas21 03-11-2006, 11:01 PM I don't think it really matters if Claire went or not, Rudy wasn't seriously hurt, As long as a parent went with her. If she made a big deal out of it, it's only because it was her baby and she came home to find a big ass bump on her childs head. She was in good hands when Cliff took her to the hospital. And Cliff couldn't look at Rudy's head to tell if she had some kinda fracture, so yeah I would want my daughter to go to the hospital for an xray at least. And I could see why Claire would want to be home and supervise Theo, she could tell him what she wanted done and how she wanted it done. Just because Theo was 16 doesn't mean that he didn't need someone watching over him, he could have been doing a half-assed job. So as long as Cliff went with Rudy that's all that matter, it's not a big deal if Claire didn't go, even if she did make a big whoop about it.
Ireneparalegal 03-12-2006, 10:13 PM Im pretty sure Phylicia wasnt pregnant during that episode though, she had already had her baby.
And at his age, IMO, Theo didnt need anyone to watch him clean house. She could've taken Rudy, and checked over his work when she got back. If it wasnt cleaned to her liking, he'd just have to start over. That's how it was in my house.
I dont think Cliff would've gotten Rudy in any faster than Clair could have.
Brieannas21, I was just saying that since Cliff had already checked her out and was sure that his little girl was ok, and Cliffs opinion didnt satisfy Clair, she should have been the one to take Rudy.
Ireneparalegal, I had never made that connection between Elvin and Alvin... interesting.
Cliff was a doctor. His opinion and his expertise would be enough for me, not so much as a doctor, but as a husband. I think Cliff was smart enough as a doctor to know whether Rudy needed to be checked with an x-ray. My God, how many times is one going to take their kid to the hospital everytime they fall down? wrestle and get hurt? As long as there isn't blood coming out of the nose, mouth, ears, eyes, and there is no dizziness and the child is only complaining of pain from the cheek, then I think the word of a doctor, even if it's her father, should be enough.
If a pregnant patient of Cliff's had gone in for her regular appt. and pointed out to Cliff the same injury on her face and he gave her the same prognosis, would it be different????? No. And so it shouldn't be different for his own daughter. Geez.
Claire had to watch and supervise her teen son? That's a laugh. My Gosh, when will this defense of Claire end????? No reason whatsoever was Claire needed to watch Theo. She had told Theo what to do when she got upset with him. He is dyslexic, not hard of hearing. He heard what needed to be done. Obviously he had done those chores before. I surely wouldn't tell my child to do a chore they never did before if I was sure they wouldn't know how to do it right. Claire had her fat-ass sitting on the couch reading a magazine. She could have gone with Cliff, or gone herself. Cliff reassured her Rudy was alright but it wasn't good enough for her. What a whiny, complaining beeyotch she is. TAKE YOUR CHILD YOUR DAMN SELF!!!! She was soooooo worried she couldn't even go to the hospital because watching Theo clean house was soooooooo important. Like the house was a damn pig sty to begin with. Pleeeeeeeeze.
I noticed the Alvin/Elvin name during it's first run and I always wondered what, if anything, that was all abt...hmmmmm.
Ireneparalegal 03-12-2006, 10:33 PM I agree that just as a husband Cliff's judgement should have been good enought, I mean he's not ignorant. And its not like that was the first time something like that had happened, it was their FIFTH kid that got hurt.
That just made me laugh.
by your fifth kid you are like..."oh, yeah, here's a kiss...now go play!" LOL
glad I made u laugh...glad you see what I see too.
Brieannas21 03-12-2006, 10:37 PM Her parent went with her, I don't see why it's such a big deal that Claire didn't go. There have been a lot of women in the world who have gone to the hospital with their children while their husbands stayed home for whatever reason.
And about Cliff being a doctor, he was a gynecologist. There's no way in hell I would want a gynecologist looking at my head that I just hit with a wall going lord knows how fast, to tell me that I'm ok. I broke my wrist 4 yrs ago while I was at a friends house, he was a resident at the time and he told me (Oh you just popped your wrist out of place) when in fact, when I went to the hospital and had an X-ray, the doctor told me that it was broken, in two places. And I do believe that since Cliff went to the hospital with Rudy that she saw a doctor faster than she would if Claire would have taken her.
IT"S THE WRITERS FAULT

Why is it a big deal??? Cuz Claire was the ONE WHO MADE IT A BIG DEAL WHEN SHE GOT HOME. No one else did. That's why she should have gone. Regarding any issue, if anyone is complaining abt something, someone, etc. it only makes sense that the person do the complaining, be the one to take the action.
I was in a car accident when I was 8 months pregnant. The doctors in the E.R. didn't want to take x-rays without my OB/GYN's permission first.
It was the writers fault because they made claire have a cow with this, when there was no reason for her to be so worried. This was another one of those opportunities for one of Bill Cosby's friends (Rita Moreno) to make a guest appearance and start chatting away abt some Bulls*** story...blah, blah, blah, blah...*Irene yawns*...it was filler time and it was stupid. Claire could have been "with Rudy with the doctor" while Cliff waited in the waiting room chatting away with this friend.
Brieannas21 03-12-2006, 11:11 PM I don't care if it's their 5th or 25th you don't treat your child any different just because you've had others before them. That makes no sense.
And Rudy was what? 8 or 9 at the time, she didn't need any permission from a gynecologist. If your a grown woman then yeah if they think your pregnant I could see why they would need permission. And even if you're pregnant or not I don't see why the ER docs would need permission from your gynecologist to take an X-ray that's something they should know.

I was being sarcastic abt the kid thing.
as for Rudy, she was alright...she was lying pretty good, sounds like she wasn't hurt at all. If you can't trust your husband the doctor (after Cliff had advised Claire on other medical issues before with no problem) then you can't trust him AT ALL. And that just makes Claire the BIGGEST BEEYOTCH THERE IS...:cuckoo  :D I wouldn't come home crying abt my child being hurt and then worry more abt watching my son cleaning house...what kind of mother was that???? more worried abt her precious house than her precious child???? she couldn't trust her husband's word, why would she trust him taking her to the doctor?
Brieannas21 03-13-2006, 01:10 AM I didn't miss the point that you're trying to make. And what I'm saying is, just because you've had children before, doesn't mean that your last child's pain should be shrugged off. Just because it didn't look serious on the surface, doesn't mean that it wasn't underneath. I do think that Rudy was lying just because she was getting special treatment and that's the reason Claire was acting the way she was.
Rudy: "I can't breath out my nose"

Ok, so in your eyes Rudy was HURT. ok, given that, don't you think it was very unusual that the mother didn't go to the hospital???????????? my ass would be there in a heartbeat! You don't seem to make sense with your statement that Rudy was indeed very hurt and needed medical attention. Ok, I will give you that for argument's sake. So why then did you say Claire needed to supervise Theo? Was watching your son cleaning house more important than BEING WITH YOUR YOUNGEST CHILD at the emergency room???

Rudy wasn't hurt that bad. CLAIRE should have taken her to the family doctor first. Then, if she needed x-rays, the doctor would probably suggest she go to the hospital.
Theo was old enough that he didn't need Claire watching him like a hawk.
She could have made him clean the house and inspect it when she got home.

That's what I said. Rudy wasn't hurt that much. But if the mother felt it was worse (in Claire's eyes it was) then her butt should have been the one to go, whether by herself or with Cliff. Not supervise a cleaning of the house.
Ireneparalegal 03-23-2006, 11:12 PM Im not saying that Rudy's pain should have been shrugged off... Im saying that by the time Rudy had this accident, Clair would be able to tell if she was seriously hurt or not, and whether or not Rudy was just pulling her leg when she said what she did. (in this case that's all it was.) She didnt need to overreact and make Cliff take her to the ER.
Exactly. Since Clair is the one who didnt accept Cliff's (educated) opinion, she should have been the one to take Rudy... not supervise Theo.
And yes Cliff was an OBGYN, but he would have had more than enough education to be able to recognize the extent of Rudy's injuries, or lack thereof.
 :thanks:

I would hate to be sick or hurt and have someone like Claire for a mother.
