But did you know the British version starred Wilfred Brambell (who played Paul's grandfather in The Beatles' first film, "A Hard Day's Night")? gilligan fanatic 03-04-2006, 08:26 PM I got a hold of two episodes of it and the first thing that suprised me was the cast was white. I also didn't understand some of the jokes because the British have different words for things and I did not know a lot of them. It was alright, but I like Sanford and Son a whole lot better. Also it was mainly just the two of them. There were guest stars, but it seemed like the two of them were missing friends like Rollo and Grady. STEPTOE & SON, a British sitcom, aired first ... years before Norman Lear adapted it as the American series SANFORD & SON. The British show ran from 1962 to 1974. Lear's SANFORD & SON didn't debut until 1972. So, no, STEPTOE was not a "spin-off"; in fact, it was the inspiration for SANFORD a decade later. |
