View Full Version : Does anyone else find this a little rude?
Chocoholic 02-23-2006, 05:54 PM Earlier today, someone called the house and asked to speak with my dad, who was at work. I replied politely that my dad was not available at the time but that I would happy to leave a message for him if this person would just leave their name and number. The guy replied with a curt, "Uh, no. I'll call back later."
Does anyone else think that's a bit rude? What's so hard about leaving a message for a person you are trying to reach? He called back again when my dad still wasn't home yet and again hung up when I asked for his phone number so my dad could call him when he gets home.
Polniaczek033 02-23-2006, 05:56 PM it's not exactly rude, but the tone he seemed to have had probably made it seem so. he shouldn't have been such an ass.
Ireneparalegal 02-23-2006, 05:58 PM Sounds like a bill collector, survey, or telemarketer. Those are the only three jerks that talk like that. I can't imagine a friend of your dad's doing that.

yea that ^-^
Chain Gang Member 02-23-2006, 06:02 PM I do believe it was rude, but maybe it was private
Chocoholic 02-23-2006, 06:02 PM That's what I figured, Irene. If it was a friend or relative or someone, they'd just say to tell my dad they called and they'd try again later.
Hollow 02-23-2006, 06:52 PM no.
Mijada 02-23-2006, 07:03 PM I don't really think it's rude but it does get annoying when people keep on calling and they never want to leave a message. The least that guy could have done was ask when the best time to reach your dad would be. At least then he would have had an idea of when to call back instead of calling again at any old time and bugging you again.
dawsongirl 02-23-2006, 07:10 PM Totally a Telemarketer. Just ignore them.
Sharop 02-23-2006, 07:26 PM I wouldn't say the statement itself was rude, but as others have said, the way he said it may have been.
Sometimes when people are calling, especially if it's about something not overly important, they can't be bothered to leave a message.
Karen* 02-23-2006, 07:30 PM I don't think it's rude. I do that sometimes, but only because I actually want to speak to the person. Maybe that's why the other person on the line said that to you.
Chad Michael Murray 02-23-2006, 07:31 PM Last week, a credit card company called me and wanted me to take some kind of a survey. They had kept calling, and I just got some pretty bad news that day and wasn't in the mood to talk. Eventually, I answered the phone instead of letting it ring 8 million times. I politely said "No, I'm sorry, but I really don't have any time for that right now."
Immediately when I said that, the guy hung up on me. No "thank you anyway" or any of that. He just simply hung up.
Totally a Telemarketer. Just ignore them.
Yeah that.

I wouldn't worry about it.. He's just some ass , and if the message was important enough he would leave a message so i guess it wasn't imporant I wouldnt worry.. im sure your dad will talk to him.
swedeace 02-23-2006, 10:39 PM No, I don't find it rude. We've had those types of phone calls happen at work where someone (be it a personal call OR bill collector) says "no, I'll call back later" or "yes, the message is...."
I believe it all depends in HOW their response was said. If it was abrupt and standoffish, then yes. If it was polite and reticent, then no.
I also believe if it was a private and personal message, then it is understandable to not go forth and leave the message.
moeee 02-24-2006, 01:26 PM no. Thats how bill collectors are.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 02-24-2006, 02:38 PM Doesn't sound rude to me, but then again maybe it was the tone of his voice. I think that would determine if he was trying to be an ass or not.
