Expired is more of a Medical term. It does seem odd for ordinary folks to use the term. I would just say died or passed away. I wouldn't say people are using bad words ( I thought you meant foul language) but odd words.

I gave up trying a while ago, trying to keep up with what to call black people. I've read that some take offense to African-American. So many black people refer to themselves as black, so I do too. Like Sarah pointed out, white people are called white.

Usually, it is acceptable to refer to a person by their geographical location, but when it comes to the color of their skin, it gets debatable. Whites have white skin, Blacks have black skin, Asians have yellow skin, and Hispanics have brown skin. Then why:

Jack Wang from China can be called an Asian man, but I don't think it's right to call him a "Yellow man."

Marie Lopez from Venezuela can be called a Hispanic woman or perhaps a Latina, but not a "Brown woman."

But it seems acceptable to say that Martin Luther King Jr. was a Black man and Hillary Clinton is a White woman.

I guess the reason is because Blacks and Whites have been in America for so long that they are not seem upon as recent immigrants, while Hispanics and Asians are a relatively recent group with continuing high levels of immigration, and that is why they may still be referred to by their geographical origin.

Then there are different namesfor people who do the same things.

As George Carlin explained, Isareli murderers are called "commandos," Arab commandos are called "terrorists," and the Nicaraguan contra terrorists were called "freedom fighters." If crime fighters fight crime and if fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? :eek:

Well I hear it and see it on forms, but if you use Caucasian, then you have to also use Negroid and Mongoloid, as those are the two other classifications. And I don't think Negroid would go well with many people.

I totally see what you're saying--I agree. I wish it could be where there was no difference between anyone of a different race in any respect, because we should be viewed as all equal. But sometimes society doesn't see it that way. This does take me back to my post in the other thread about the differences that exist... where I've felt a minority is justified in separating themselves when they want to, because they often have to deal with separation in a negative way.

An example I have is when I've heard some females on television make comments like, "I'm an intelligent, hard-working black female..." It's like, "why did you have to put the race comment into it like it matters? No white person would ever get away with saying 'I'm an intelligent, hard-working white female...'" But then I have what I think of as a justifable reason for anyone speaking that way--it's like minorities often come across times where they aren't treated right because of some bigotted ******* and they feel, as long as they've been singled out by the color of their skin, they might as well use it to feel empowered... And then I just feel they should use it in a positive way whenever they see fit, as if they are entitled to it. But I know not everyone from the same race would agree with them. But for the ones that want to, I'm almost like "Go ahead. You have a reason to do it, if you want to." I just wish it never had to come to all this. I want everyone to just stop the nonsense of singling others out.

You're right. It's so confusing what is considered right and wrong, and you have to be conditioned to them all. But then things will change and it gets to be too much. Which is why I like this thread.

Here's another case of "bad language. . . ."
