I will defintely be watching, i did kind of lose interest in the All Star activities like the Slam dunk Contest and three point contest.

The only thing I'm interested in is the Slam Dunk Contest because Nate Robinson is in it.

The slam dnk contest is for NBA players who are trying to make a name for themselves in the NBA. Players who are already established as a Star in the NBA like Lebron don't need to enter the Slam Dunk Contest

So was Clyde Drexler, Vince Carter, Ron Harper. Being a star has nothin to do with being in the dunk contest. Jordan came into the league as a star, didn't he? His first pair of sneakers came out in 1985, his second year in the league.

Yeah Jordan was a star when he was a rookie. He averaged 28 points a game as a rookie.

I'll be watching both the all star game, and the Saturday night stuff. I do every year. I was getting kind of sick of the dunk contest, because it seemed like the originality of the dunks had pretty much disappeared in recent years, but with Stoudamire bringing some unpredictability back into it last year, that has got me somewhat interested again. The all star game's have been boring since the Jordan's, Johnson's, Bird's, and Drexler's retired, but I'm still going to watch, because I still find it somewhat entertaining.

I know he came into the league in 1984, what I was saying is that because his sneakers came out in 1985 which was his second year, he was already a star, and Solomon said that he didn't become a star until the 1988 slam-dunk contest.

The rookie game has been played on Saturday until, I guess, this year. They played it last night (Friday).

While it certainly looks silly that Bowie was taken ahead of Jordan in 1984, you have to remember that teams will primarily draft to fit whatever needs they feel they have. Portland had drafted Clyde Drexler in 1983, and had some other decent guards at that time. They felt they needed a center, so that's why they went with Bowie (it's also possible that they might have been thinking of drafting Bowie and then trading him, but Bowie's career was over almost as soon as it started, the poor guy couldn't stay healthy...).

Steve Stipanovich (Missouri) was the 2nd pick of the '83 draft, after Ralph Sampson. Drexler was the #14 pick that year. How's THAT look?

Bowie (2nd) was also drafted ahead of Charles Barkley (5th) and John Stockton (16th) in 1984.

It's pretty amazing how many guys (whom most of you younger fans have never heard of) were drafted ahead of players who were named to the NBA's 50th anniversay all time team (i.e. the 50 best players, selected in 1996).
